5 stars not showing up on other computers when importing images that have been worked on. Catalogues settings include write metadata to xmp keywords do show up though
our working group usually one team member imports and completes job in lightroom 5 . All settings on team computers include write metadata to xmp. Key words show up if another team member adds the images to their catalogue but the 5 stars don't show up.
We use the 5 stars to show images that were worked on and complete.
Would love to sort this issue out as we rely on being able to see the star rating not just keywords.
[Sorry for the delay in getting back.] Of the three files you included in the Dropbox .zip, 2 had no rating, and 1 had a 5-star rating (*research*.dng). So indeed, the rating didn't get written to those two files and wouldn't show up when they were imported into another catalog.
A couple of suggestions:
1. Triple-check that the option Automatically Write Changes Into XMP is set in Catalog Settings > File Handling in everyone's Lightroom.
2. After someone sets the rating, check the thumbnail in Library grid mode -- does it have a badge in the upper-right corner indicating the metadata needs to be updated? If it does, then that means the metadata isn't getting written immediately back to the file:

I haven't watched that video, but if you move photos in your operating system ... Lightroom does NOT automatically find these photos. Finding photos that have been moved is NOT a feature of Lightroom. So, there is no fix for this.
You would have to tell Lightroom where the photos are now located, as explained in the link from 99jon
If you must move photos, move them inside of Lightroom, not in your operating system, or better yet — don't move them, and use Lightroom tools such as keywords and other metadata to achieve organization. -
i have already authorized 5 other computers that I no longer have and now cannot sync and store my music etc. on my current computer. how can i unauthorize all other computers if I no longer have them?
Go to store on the menu bar. Select view my account. From there, go to manage devices. It will give you a list of all the computer that are authorized to use your account. This will allow you to choose which ones you want to delete.

Can anyone help me pair my BT keyboard with my password protected Mac Mini? I am currently unable to log in to Mac Mini since the BT keyboard has become unpaired. The wireless mouse is working. I also have an I Pad and an I Phone as well as Mac TV.

GailI had exactly the same issue, that the Apple wireless keyboard became unpaired, and I couldn't get past the password-protected log-in screen, because I didn't have a wired keyboard laying around.
OK folks,
Discovered by trial and error that it was the wireless mouse (not an Apple brand) that was preventing the keyboard from pairing, even though it's not a bluetooth mouse...
Here's the steps I used...
1. Disconnected the USB mouse cord from the Mac Mini.
2. Turned off the Apple wireless keyboard from switch on the back.
3. Turn Mac Mini off, then back on.
4. Waited for it to boot up as far as the password-protected screen.
5. Turned on the Apple wireless keyboard, waited for it to stop blinking, indicating (hoping) that it paired up.
6. And voila... was able to then type in the password...
7. Then plugged the non-Apple wireless mouse sensor cord back into the Mac Mini's USB port
I also immediately went in to the MacMini's Sharing options and set that up for remote management in case something else happens down the road for other problems...
Thanks though to all who suggested solutions... they may come in handy in the future.

Problems with image names when exporting - images that have come back into lightroom from photoshop
Can anyone help ? When I need to take an image from lightroom into photoshop then back into lightroom and then I export that image, the original file number disappears and is replaced by dashes. Does anyone know how to solve this ?

Pasting images that have been put onto the clipboard by other applications
I have the following problem. Might be that I am just overlooking something but I haven't found any information or other java programs that would solve this problem.
I want to access the System Clipboard and retrive images copied onto the System Clipboard by an other application (e.g. paint, irfanView, ... ). Copy and pasting works perfectly with Strings or Images I myself copied to the Clipboard, but as soon as I want to access an image from an other application clipboard.getContents(this) returns null as though the Clipboard was empty. (Where clipboard =getToolkit().getSystemClipboard();)
I downloaded a couple of other java applications that handle images (e.g. ImageJ) and found out that those also can't paste images from other sources.
Is there a way to do that? Has anybody found a solution for that or have I really overlooked something, and it's just one of those stupid bugs one never finds by oneself?Hi,
this was exactly my problem. With "Copy and pasting works perfectly with Strings or Images I myself copied to the Clipboard" I mean that I copied the Images and Strings from within a Java Application on to the System Clipboard. It didn't work if the image came from another win32 application. I solved the problem by using JNI, reading the images from the clipboard using C++ and then passing an int[] array to the java application. -
Photos that have been deleted to aperture trash cannot be viewed. Any assistance is welcome in fixing this bug. The showing all files option is selected in the filter. System is 10.8.4. Aperture version 3.4.5. Used to be able to view the files then all of a sudden they have stop appearing. Once the aperture trash is emptied the files can be viewed in the system trash. Becomes quite annoying if you want to review the aperture trash files before deletion.
Photos that have been deleted to aperture trash cannot be viewed ...

In the most recent version I cannot get this trick to work, however. But try it anyway, maybe it is just my macthat has an issue.
Did this happen directly after the update? Where is your library located, on an external or an internal drive? Are your originals managed or referenced?
I'd try next to check, if this is caused by the library, by creating a small test library and trying to trash pictures there. If it works well in a new library try to repair the database and the permissions on your regular library. See:

how do I make it so that the one computer that has the main itunes account on it be used on other computers, when it comes to backing up phones and not deleting data off of phone that isnt on that computer itunes becasse its all on the one main computer. Baiscally the problem is that one comuter and one account has always been sued for eey persons itunes. Now if we want to be able to backup and use itunes on our own computers fro our iphones and such, how will all he data that is on our phones not be deleted once its plugged into a new computer? Also, is theere a way to get all the stuff on thw current itunes onto each computer, via differtn account name?
option discovered in preferences. Really this and any feature that moves deletes or edits a users data should as far as possible be OFF BY DEFAULT. It shouldn't by default and without the users specific say do this dangerous and unnecessary thing without even letting the user know what it's doing!!! And then cause me a few hours (as i'm new to mac) searching for the option so as to switch it off. If i hadn't noticed the status cage declaring that it was copying files then i might never have twigged that this insane thing was occurring. And if i hadn't of noticed i would have been left maintaining the contents of the folder i copied the files to, the folder which as far as i was informed and so believed was also the location of the music files i was playing. How does Apple justify this 'genius' piece of software non-design? Surely it will hurt no one if this was off by default for new users - overall at least i dare say it would cause a lot less distress in the future for the unsuspecting public at large. When I plug in iPhone (5.1.1) to computer, playlists show up on the iPhone (when plugged in), that do not appear when it is not plugged in. And I can't erase them. I have iTunes match, and deleted all my music on the iPhone, but that had no effect on the phantom playlist that shows up on the PC when I plug in the iPhone to the PC. I cannot manually move songs or playlists from the PC to the iPhone

Hello, I have songs that show they are "Waiting" for download from the cloud but they are greyed out. Some songs in one album are done others in the same album will not download. It is not a time function because i have been working on this for weeks. I have allowed my compter to run for days and the songs are still not accessible. I have a Match subscription and Match is working. If I click on the "Genre" link the greyed out songs show that they are ready for download from the cloud but I cannot download them. I have downloaded over 1500 other songs, so I am trying to understand what is going on here. I would appreciate any help anyone can give me.
ThanksI did think about that and if I have to I will do that, however there are about 50 songs. I have closed and reopened iTunes several times and I am sure that I have the latest version. It fails right away but I can click on the cloud download icon and download the song that it failed on ... therefore it is not that song "or any one song" causing the issue. Any ideas?

Actually, Reader SHOULD keep showing documents that no longer exist, I disagree. It's no big deal, and people will quickly realise why they can't open the file. They open more files, the old ones move off.
The REASON why it should not check is that checking whether a file exists can take a long time when things aren't good. For instance if a file server goes down, or a memory card is unplugged. That in turn would mean delays opening the File menu, and I've seen some software that can sit there for several minutes. That would really give people something of which to complain... -
When deleting photos that have double and or tripled they have not deleted-
Ok I have posted here once before and have never resolved my problem and would really like to try and get resolved some how. I have four apple computers in my home network 1 eMac 1GHz, 1 G4 dual Processor 867MHz, 2G5 1.6GHz, 1.8GHz iMacs. All them have double if not triple photos from the same photo files from our external Hard drive that we have connect to our Apple air port extreme 802.11. now inside the external hard drive shows only one file that we all back up onto. But everyones machines were fine for awhile after doing a clean install of operating system. After a while slow but surely everyones machine started getting double and triple photos. all the same with the same id info. So I found a discussion on here before how to try and remedy this problem, but seems to have no effect and now my photos on all the machines are quadrupling for some reason cant figure it out but would like to get this fixed. I also would like to remove photos that have been deleted and clear up needed storage space.

Do I undertsand you correctly? You are trying to share a library across 4 machines and you keep getting duplicates - or more?
How have you this sharing set up? How do the various iPhotos access the pics? Do they have a single shared library? Or 4 seperte libraries sharing a single pool of pics?
As much detail as possible please, but it sounds like there iPhotos are re-importing pics rather than actually sharing.

When I open a pdf document from my dropbox to view it, the document appears blank, even though I know the information is actually there. This also has happened with pdf documents that have been e-mailed to me, then opened to view and they are blank?? Why are they showing up blank?
When I open emails with PDFs I click on the attachment (doing this all on my iPad) it gives me the option to "open in iBooks", I accept then after that the document is sucked into my iPad but I can't do anything with the PDF after that. Where is the actual file on my iPad? Why can't I email or send these PDFs to my cloud (Dropbox)?
It's like once they go into iBooks they're stuck forever. -

I have been saving photos that have been emailed to me on my ipad. They show up in the camera roll, but when I open the camera roll the thumbprints are jumbled and blurred and frozen. I can't get out of there unless I shut my ipad down and restart it. I can use other parts of my ipad ,but my camera roll remains frozen....help!
Have you tried restarting or resetting your iPad?
Restart: Press On/Off button until the Slide to Power Off slider appears, select Slide to Power Off and, after It shuts down, press the On/Off button until the Apple logo appears.
Reset: Press the Home and On/Off buttons at the same time and hold them until the Apple logo appears (about 10 seconds).
No data will be lost.
