A application+designpattern with JSP

Hello!
I have a question regarding designpattern for an application using JSP.
Which is prefered

3) to have the basic Java in the JSP page (databaseconnection etc.)
Is it prefered that always use beans to minimize the JAVA in the JSPpage or?

Hello!
I have a question regarding designpattern for an
application using JSP.
Which is prefered
1) Use a bean that have all methods the application is
using
2) A couple of beans that have different methods
3) to have the basic Java in the JSP page
(databaseconnection etc.)I would prefer 2. Have methods that are associated with each other in one class, but unassociated methods in another... for instance:
Have a DataBase access bean that handles connections to database
Hava a another one to represent a User who is logged in, that holds all associated methods for the user.
Have another that would represent an item you have in your inventory, which would have the associated methods for that...
etc... obviously what classes you use will be based on what your application is meant to do. But if you take every 'real world' thing that is associated with your app, then make a class specifically for that thing, that is the method I prefer.
>
Is it prefered that always use beans to minimize the
JAVA in the JSPpage or?Yes, do this. It makes it a lot easier to debug, and to move from one system to the next. For instance, if you put all your logic into beans, then you can test and retest in a normal java environment, like the command line. Then you just make the JSPs that display the data after your Java code is tested, and you can be sure that any problems are associated with the JSP display....
Look into JSTL or Struts as a means to eliminate just about all scriptlets from the JSP.

  • Error after deploying a JSP Application developed with jdeveloper

    Hi there
    Running Oracle Enterpride Edition 8.1.7
    including Oracle Http webserver
    I'm trying to run a JSP application developed with Jdeveloper
    through the oracle http server included in
    Oracle Enterpride Edition 8.1.7
    Think I have modified alle the .conf files correctly
    I get the message :
    "Error Message: java.lang.RuntimeException: JSP Registry could not locate runtime property file:ORDERS_ORDERS_PKG_ORDERS_PKGModule.properties"
    Of course I know ,this file should be deployed as well. I have done this.
    Any ideas what's wrong ?
    Or can anyone point me to a (proper) document that decribes (correctly and completely) alle the steps that need to be done ?
    Many Thanxs
    Regards TJ

    Yep, I had the same problem deploying from JDeveloper 9.3.1, followed:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/jdev/howtos/10g/adf_runtime_update_howto.html
    and it works! thanks for the clue! (now I only have to find out what ADF is now!)

  • Running other server-side applications with JSP

    Hi,
    I'd like to know, if is possible run with JSP (Servlet, or JavaBean) other application, which support COM. I used something like this in JavaScript:
    application=new ActiveXObject("excel.application");
    and I had all possibilities of its API. I'd like to use excel as data source for user-friendly data input.
    Thanks for all suggestions

    Hi,
    I don't realy understand your question.
    If your javascript work using activeX, this code is executed on the client side (like the excel application and the excel file).
    You can, with a JSP, generate the html page that contain the script.
    Where is the problem ?

  • How can I create a Login-page with jsp???

    Hello,
    I have to create a page with JSP code on the Netweaver Developer Studio.
    But I do not know how I do it.
    Can anyone tell me what to write in the portalapp.xml?
    An example would be very helpful.
    Thank you
    Greetings

    As you can see in the example:
    The portalapp.xml file (deployment descriptor) provides configuration information for your application, and defines the components and services in your application. For each component and service, you specify the implementing Java class and configuration information.
    For more information on the format of the portalapp.xml, see Deployment Descriptor (portalapp.xml).
    <application>
        <application-config>
            <property name="SharingReference" value="com.sap.portal.navigation.service, com.sap.portal.navigation.api_mimeservice, com.sap.portal.navigation.helperservice"/>
            <property name="Vendor" value="MY_COMPANY"/>
            <property name="SecurityArea" value="PERMISSION"/>
        </application-config>
        <components>
            <component name="SimpleNavigationExample">
                <component-config>
                    <property name="ClassName" value="MY_CLASS"/>
                    <property name="SecurityZone" value="no_safety"/>
                </component-config>
                <component-profile/>
            </component>
        </components>
        <services/>
    </application>
    You can only update in this example, your class name and other details:
    <property name="Vendor" value="sap.com"/>
    <property name="SecurityArea" value="MyCompany"/>
    <property name="ClassName" value="LOGINCLASS"/>
    <property name="SecurityZone" value="no_safety"/>
    Modify this portalapp.xml file as follows:
           1.      NAVIGATION SERVICE, so you must add references to the following portal applications that define these services:
            com.sap.portal.navigation.service
            com.sap.portal.navigation.api_mimeservice
            com.sap.portal.navigation.helperservice
           2.      In the <application-config> section, create the following properties that help to define the security zone for all components and services in this application:
    ○     Vendor: String identifying the company or organization that provided the application, for example, sap.com.
    ○     SecurityArea: String identifying the security area for the application, for example, NetWeaver.portal.
           3.      In the <component-config> section for the mySiteMap component, create the property SecurityZone to define the specific security zone for the component.

  • Excel with JSP

    Hi everyone
    I relly do need some help...
    I have an Oracle Database and I need to:
    1. View my results (of any request) in an excel spreadsheet using JSP (I think this part is the easiest...)
    2. And that is my real problem: Use an excel spreadsheet to insert values in the database with JSP...
    I hope I made it clear because even for me it's really tricky...
    Thanks a lot...
    Yassi

    There is a example in Marty Hal;l's book"Core Servlets and JSP pages".
    It is static, but the same idea would work coming from a database.

  • Use of Threads with JSP's

    Can you use threads in a web application that uses JSP's plus Servlets and Beans ?
    We have a JRUN 3.1 application using JSPs, Servlets and Beans. Shortly after we went live it became apparent that any 2 users using the same object experienced problems as one object was overwriting another. In a panic the problem was solved by whacking SYNCHRONISED on all objects.
    Now we want to write another application, are there strategies for using Threads with JSPs?
    Would this be part of the webserver configuration or would the application be coded in a certain way ?
    Please can you give me a simplistic answer or point me to some documentation that gives a simple overview.
    Thanks Steve

    Hi,
    You can use thread with jsp, i am sending u a example

    counter++;
    sum += counter;
    } catch (InterruptedException e) {
    setRunning(false);
    public synchronized int getPercent() {

    public synchronized boolean isStarted() {

  • Why JavaBeans with JSP

    Hi,
    I know its an easy question and probably a silly one to ask, but still please take time to answer this. Why do we use JavaBeans with JSP to make use of reusable code. Cant we use simple classes for this?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
    JavaBeans technology is the component architecture for the Java 2 Platform, Standard Edition (J2SE). Components (JavaBeans) are reusable software programs that you can develop and assemble easily to create sophisticated applications. By using Java beans, JSP allows you to keep much more of your code separate from the html than other html embedded languages. Java beans basically let you keep all the logic of your page (like the code to connect to a database, manipulate data etc) in a separate file known as a Java bean. Then from within your html page - all you do is use one tag to 'use' the bean, and then a few other short tags to send data to and from the bean.
    the website http://java.sun.com/products/jsp/html/jsptut.html is a good start, simple and easy understand.
    Good luck!

  • How to generate html-code using csv input with JSP or JAVA???

    Hello,
    I want to read out a .csv-file and generate html-code dynmically with JSP in an EP6 Application. The problem is, that the csv-file can’t be located or openend.
    BTW if every knows a good tutorial or weblog for this, please post the link.
    It’s located in a par-archive under:
    />dist>files
    I tried various methods, in the doContent mehtod or with JSP. Everytime same result.
    Here part of the code I tried in the doContent():
    public class CSV extends AbstractPortalComponent
        public void doContent(IPortalComponentRequest request, IPortalComponentResponse response)
            String strWRoot = request.getWebResourcePath();
            String contentCSV="", line="";
            String linesep = System.getProperty("line.separator");
            File fileLoadCSV = new File(strWRoot+"/files/ma_infosysteme.csv");
            boolean exCSV = fileLoadCSV.exists();
            boolean reCSV = fileLoadCSV.canRead();
            int a=0;
            if(exCSV&&reCSV){
                response.write("ok");
                try {
                  BufferedReader inputCSV = new BufferedReader(new FileReader(fileLoadCSV));
                  while((line=inputCSV.readLine())!=null){
                    contentCSV=contentCSVlinelinesep;
                    a++;
                  inputCSV.close();
                catch(IOException ioex){
                    System.out.println("Fehler");
            else {
                response.write("not ok");
            response.write("<br>Wroot: "+strWRoot);
            response.write("<br>File: "+fileLoadCSV);
            response.write("<br>exists: "+exCSV);
            response.write("<br>read: "+reCSV);
            response.write("<br>Input: "+contentCSV);
    The Output is:
    not ok

    So thanks to everyone who can give me a good hint.
    Bye.

    Without really looking too much into this it looks like the problem is with the way in which you are trying to open the file. I believe that when creating a File object you need to use a physical path. By using the getWebResourcePath() method you are retrieving the URL to this file and not the physical path name. There is another method (can't remember the exact name) called getPublicResourcePath() (or something similar) which will return the physical path to this file, i.e. c:\usr\sap\.....etc. If you try it this way it may well work
    I hope this helps

    Hi,
    I had the same problem yesterday then I found the answer here:

    The issue is that you can not have PrintWriter and OutputStream at

  • Authentification and Security in WebApp with JSP

    Hello to all.
    I'm developing a Web Applications with JSP's. To use the application a user must first Login.
    To restrict access via URL typing I have included in every JSP page a user_logged_in_check page that verifies that the user is logged in, and if not redirects to the Login page.
    The problem is that I must not forget to include that page in all my JSPs, and if the name of the page changes, it must be changed everywhere (though a search/replace might do the job just fine).
    I used this approach because is not server dependent (such as the Tomcat Realms example I have seen on this forum).
    Is there a better strategy?
    Is there a way to enforce security check and not rely on my attention ;)?
    Is there a pattern that solves the problem?
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    The first and biggest disadvantage is the repetitive coding - what happens if you realise that you need to change something - you will need to modify each of your JSP files. The chances of someone forgetting to add it in are a security risk.
    Secondly, using the web server's mechanism, in most cases, would mean that you are using a proven and much more stable security mechanism then you can whip up.
    For example, in Weblogic, you can configure a JAAS provider -- that means you are not limited to using uname/password. Your customer may have an enterprise wide single sign on policy that is supported by the JAAS provider and you can use it straight away - by just making a declarative change in the web*.xml files.
    If you must, use the Filter class (its a Servlet class, I checked after I had posted) as described in the Intercepting Filter pattern - at least thats a standard approach and will cut down on you having to rely on adding a snip of code to each of your JSPs.
