A content type failed to be syndicated: Microsoft.SharePoint.SPContentTypeReadOnlyException

I've got a content type hub in my SharePoint 2010 environment. I've updated a content type on the hub and now when the timer job for the content type hub runs I'm getting a lot of messages like this one:
A content type failed to be syndicated: Microsoft.SharePoint.SPContentTypeReadOnlyException: The content type "Site Request"
at "/sites/sitename" is read only.

at Microsoft.SharePoint.Taxonomy.ContentTypeSync.Internal.Subscriber.SynchronizeSite(TaxonomySession session, TermStore termStore, MetadataWebServiceApplicationProxy proxy, SPSite site, Guid rawPartitionId, DownloadedHubData downloadedHubData, SyndicationResult

There haven't been any updates made to the content types for quite a while. So this issue might have occurred since the latest SharePoint updates were installed.
To me it sounds like this could be a permission issue but I can't see an issue with the permissions.

Hi Pieter,
Thanks for the sharing the information.

  • Updating Content Type Failed

    I'm fairly new to Sharepoint and Infopath.  I hope someone here can help me.
    I have a large Infopath form with ~90 fields on it.  When I try to publich to the server, I get "Updating [or Creating] Content Type Failed".
    I determined this to be due to the number of fields and some sort of time out issue with Infopath.  I have seen a few other posts on that and the only solution I've seen is to publish with fewer fields - that does indeed work, but it doesn't solve my problem as I need all of these fields.
    I've also seen a solution to publish with fewer fileds successfully and then republish with all you need and that the "Failed" message won't matter.  Kinda true, but then I have an issue with it no longer opening in browser.
    So then, I tried publishing it to my desktop and uploading it through Central Admin, activating it to a site collection, and using it that way.  That actually works the best so far, but then I get no option to select my Parent Content Type - it just picks "Form" - and that also doesn't work for me.  I need to select Parent Content Type
    Then, I tried to Create a new CT from scratch and point it to the form template I recently uploaded.  I get to pick my parent and all, but none of the promoted properties are there, so they don't show up in my workflow, and that's the end of that route.
    Now, I am out of ideas (but you can't say I didn't try)
    Anyone out there have any suggestions that could help me?
    Thanks

    We were running into a similar issue where ~90% of the time the publication of a complex InfoPath form would fail. It looks like a timeout issue with the webservice, but it's hard to say. We came up with a different approach that seems to have solved the problem for us. I just posted details on my blog (http://acuffgroup.com/2009/01/21/tip-for-publishing-infopath-form-to-sharepoint-library/) but the summary is: don't have InfoPath re-create the columns on each publish event. Rather have it connect to existing columns, which you can specify in the publishing wizard. This change fixed our issue and looks like it's going to save us a lot of time moving forward. Check out the post and leave a comment if this helps, or if you've got other insights you can add.

  • Creating the site content type failed when publish Infopath form to Sharepoint 2013

    I have an InfoPath 2013 form trying to publish it to SharePoint 2013.  When I click on publishing an error message appears stating "Creating the site content type failed".  I can't figure out why this
    is happening, any help on this one?
    Also it appears the form template is uploaded when I go to the library settings under advance.  When I see the .xsn file and click on it, it opens in InfoPath but not in sp.

    Rettajm, could you please find any errors in ULS?

  • Update content type template for existing sites in sharepoint 2010 ?

    Hi,
    I created one custom document library (list definition) and associated 3 content types which has docment template path (\_layouts.template1.docx). I rollout nearly 200 sites with this definition. now i want to update my document template and also i want
    to change template docx to dotx.
    what is the best approach to apply these changes for existing sites ?
    Thanks,
    Surya.
    suryakumarp

    Hi suryakumar,
    As I understand, you want to update the template
    for existed content type.
    It can be achieved by programming. There is a
    SPContentType.DocumentTemplateUrl Property, which can be used to update content type.
    Here is a demo:

  • Adding the PSWApproval Content Type to the Outcome Options in SharePoint 2013 Designer

    Hi All,
    I would like to add the "PSWApproval Task" Content Type in the sharepoint 2013designer, in the process of creating a project server 2013 workflow.
    By default the Share point Designer is taking the Task content Type as Workflow Task. Can some one help me adding the PSWApproval Task here. Attached is the snapshot of the same.
    Thanks

    Its funny I am researching tis very topic right now. I have a SP2010 environment I will be migrating to 2013. My content types were used in multiple site collections without creating or using a content type hub. So, I am looking for information to create
    a strategy to get them into one.
    I have in excess of 400 Custom content types.   Also - Has anyone developed/documented a process for being able to rebuild/migrate data between content types.   Part of what we are looking to do prior to implementing a new records management

  • Content Types updates not getting pushed to Lists/Libraries Sharepoint 2013

    Hello,
    We have updated Content Type at Content Type Hub(ex. Making columns Hidden/Req...etc..). These changes are pushed to the consumer sites site level Content types but the problem is these changes are not reflecting at List/Library level Content type.
    Is there a way to explicitly push down the changes ?
    Best Regards, Pankaj Rana

    http://sharepoint.stackexchange.com/questions/52259/how-to-update-a-deployed-content-type
    perform the changes to the ContentType make sure to push changes to the lists while updating the ContentType.
    For now, you might need to perform some clean-up job here, just to make sure the field is deleted from all the lists, with your Custom ContentType. Use the following PowerShell script for clean-up! Vårsegod :)
    Add-PSSnapin Microsoft.SharePoint.PowerShell -erroraction SilentlyContinue
    $site = Get-SPSite "http://your.site.com"
    foreach($web in $site.AllWebs)
    #iterates through all the Lists
    for ($i = 0; $i -lt $web.Lists.Count; $i++)
    $list = $web.Lists[$i];
    $MyListContentTypes = $list.ContentTypes
    if ($MyListContentTypes -ne $null)
    $ct = $list.ContentTypes["You Desired Content Type Name"]
    if($ct)
    Write-Host "In list Content Type and deleting the field" $ct.Fields["You Field Name"].Id;
    $ct.FieldLinks.Delete($ct.Fields["You Field Name"].Id)
    $ct.Update()
    Edit: How to push down changes to all the Content types via SharePoint Server Object Model:
    using (SPWeb oWebsite = new SPSite("http://MyServer/sites/MySiteCollection/MyWebSite").OpenWeb())
    SPList oList = oWebsite.GetList("MyWebSite/Lists/MyList");
    SPFieldCollection collFields = oWebsite.Fields;
    string strNewColumn = collFields.Add("MyNewColumn", SPFieldType.Text, false);
    SPFieldLink oFieldLink = new SPFieldLink(fields[strNewColumn]);
    SPContentType oContentType = oList.ContentTypes["Specification"];
    oContentType.FieldLinks.Add(oFieldLink);
    oContentType.Update(true);
    Edit 2: Update a Content Type using PowerShell:
    Add-PSSnapin Microsoft.SharePoint.PowerShell -erroraction SilentlyContinue

  • Managed metadata columns in document information panel with multiple content types

    Hi everyone,
    The problem I have is that for custom content types not all managed metadata columns are displayed in Document Information Panel (DIP) for the document in the Office client application.
    However, everything works fine with 1 specific content type. Even though the others using exactly the same site columns. The content types are deployed using visual studio to the content type hub, and after this the content types are correctly published to
    the site collections, there are no publish issues here.
    When I create a document based on the second content type in the same library, all fields are showed in the document information panel, except the managed metadata columns.
    Detailed explanation:
    Library: procedures
    Content types:
    - simple procedure (with 4 managed metadata fields and some other text fields)
    - procedure with approval (with the same 4 managed metadata fields and some other text fields)
    Scenario 1: I add the 'simple procedure' content type to the procedures library as only content type. Everything works fine, and all fields show correctly in the document information panel in Word.
    Scenario 2: I add the 'procedure with approval' content type to the procedures library as only content type. Everything works fine, and all fields show correctly in the document information panel in Word.
    Scenario 3: I add the 'simple procedure' and 'procedure with approval' content types to the document library procedures (added simple procedure first). When I create a new document based on the 'simple procedure'
    content type, everything works fine and he shows all metadata fields. When I add a new document based on the 'procedure with approval' content type, the document information panel shows correctly, except all managed metadata fields. These are not visible at
    all. Though they worked perfectly in scenario 1 and 2.
    Is this a known issue or is there a workaround for this?
    Thanks in advance!
    Kind regards, Davy

    Yes!
    This problem is solved right now.
    My issue was that I'm using custom content types deployed by Visual Studio in the content type hub. To create a managed metadata site column in visual studio, you need to have first of all your managed metadata field, but also a hidden field accompagnied
    to make the actual mapping like the example below:
    <Field ID="{B654D984-187A-471B-8738-F08F3356CFDA}"
    Type="TaxonomyFieldType"
    DisplayName="Countries"
    ShowField="Term1033"
    EnforceUniqueValues="FALSE"
    Group="Demo"
    StaticName="Countries"
    Name="Countries">
    <Customization>
    <ArrayOfProperty>
    <Property>
    <Name>TextField</Name>;
    <Value xmlns:q6="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" p4:type="q6:string" xmlns:p4="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance">{67308AC2-9556-456B-BF9E-43E8F23EBEE6}</Value>
    </Property>
    </ArrayOfProperty>
    </Customization>
    </Field>
    <Field Type="Note"
    DisplayName="Countries_0"
    StaticName="CountriesTaxHTField0"
    Name="CountriesTaxHTField0"
    ID="{67308AC2-9556-456B-BF9E-43E8F23EBEE6}"
    ShowInViewForms="FALSE"
    Required="FALSE"
    Hidden="TRUE"
    CanToggleHidden="TRUE"
    Group="Demo"
    RowOrdinal="0"
    />
    </Elements>
    VERY important here is that when you create your content type using visual studio, you not only have to add the managed metadata site column in your xml (which let the content type work already perfectly) but also add the hidden field to your content type
    xml !! This way, SharePoint knows that when you have multiple content types with the same site columns in the same library, the second content type also need to get the hidden field from this site columns like in the example below!
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
    <Elements xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/sharepoint/">
    <!-- Parent ContentType: Document (0x0101) -->;
    <ContentType ID="0x010100571ebc0f478a49d5a775039347ee1535"
    Name="Document Location"
    Group="Demo"
    Description="A content type containing Managed Metadata Column."
    Inherits="TRUE"
    Version="0">
    <FieldRefs>
    <FieldRef ID="{B654D984-187A-471B-8738-F08F3356CFDA}" Name="Countries"/>
    <FieldRef ID="{67308AC2-9556-456B-BF9E-43E8F23EBEE6}" Name="CountriesTaxHTField0"/>
    <FieldRef ID="{f3b0adf9-c1a2-4b02-920d-943fba4b3611}" Name="TaxCatchAll"/>
    <FieldRef ID="{8f6b6dd8-9357-4019-8172-966fcd502ed2}" Name="TaxCatchAllLabel"/>
    </FieldRefs>
    </ContentType>
    </Elements>
    I'm very happy I found this solution, because in the whole project i'm implementing, this was used a lot!
    Special thanks to the blog of @cann0nf0dder (http://cann0nf0dder.wordpress.com/2013/04/01/creating-a-site-column-with-managed-metadata) which let me think about this!
    This ticket is answered now! :-)
    Kind regards,
    Davy

  • Document Set default content type

    When defining a document set, you can define what content types can be used in a document set.  If, after uploading a document, the user cancels the properties page, the default content type for the library is assigned to the document (even though the
    document set does not permit the content type).  This is obviously a bug.  There have been several posts on this and it appears 2013 has the bug as well as 2010.
    We are seeking a work around to this bug.
    Is it possible in in the client object model by placing a CEWP in the editform.aspx to force a content type on the item when the form is loaded?
    The other option is to modifiy the url that opens EditForm.aspx to force the content type.  Unfortunately the link that opens the EditForm.aspx page cannot be modified in the document library.

    Hi Clem_FRB,
    I did a test in my environment and I reproduce this issue.
    As a workaround, I suggest you change the content type or return an error in ItemAdded Event Receiver for document library.

    change you have to wait upwards of an hour to see it published.
    When will we be able to run timer jobs using the PowerShell cmdlets or some other way?  Is there a recommended approach by MS to handle this scenario?

    What you describe is by design, I don't have to use a content type hub to reproduce. Only add a site content type into a list can show this.
    According to
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms463016.aspx
    When you add a site content type to a list or library, SharePoint Foundation makes local copies of any columns that are referenced by the content type and adds them to the
    list's fields. For more information, see Fields and Field References.
    In addition, SharePoint Foundation makes a local copy of the site content type and adds the copy to the content type collection on the list.
    The new list content type is a child of the site content type. The value of the
    Id property for
    the list content type is different from the value of the Id property for its parent site content type, but otherwise the two content types are initially the same.

  • External content type based on OData is not crawlable

    Hi all,
    I followed instructions from this msdn article
    How to: Create an external content type from an OData source in SharePoint 2013. I've created an external content type based on OData. I imported created bdcm file to BCS store in central administration. So the ECT is scoped to the farm. I could create
    an External List and the data from OData service was displayed. But I couldn't get the ECT crawlable. When I try to add a new content source in Search Service Application and select Line of Business Data it isn't possible to select External Data Source. I
    tried to add IDEnumerator method and RootFinder property to the ECT in order to get it crawlable without any luck.
    External Content Types based on MS SQL are crawlable fine.

    Hi,
    In order to use the ECT for search you have to manually edit it as it's not complete for use with search. The two most important ones to add are:
    ShowInSearchUI
    RootFinder
    I experienced the same issue when creating an OData BCS model for my session at the SPC2012 conference and I think those were the two properties I was missing (in addition to cleaning up some other stuff).
    Take a look at
    MSDN for more information on BDC model properties, and take a look at Search Connector Framework Troubleshooting for SP2010 which shows some samples.
    Let me know if you need more help and I can provide a copy of my OData model (which is against an SP2010 site)

  • Filter SharePoint 2010 Ent. content types based AD Security Group

    We are trying to use SharePoint as a records management system. I have several site collections (Team Site at the root of each site) and my plan is to setup one site collection as a content type hub. The content type hub would then distribute all of the
    content types to my other site collections. Since I may have 70 different content types I want to filter what each user can see based on AD Security Groups (the SG matches the department the employee is in). This way they can only choose the content type that
    applies to their department and it won't be so confusing. I'll then apply retention policies based on content type. I know that I can apply retention policies based on the document library but I want the users to be able to organize their records however they
    want to.
    Am I taking the wrong approach? Is this possible?

    Hi,
    As far as I know, we can define the Permission Set on a content type. In this way, you can control which users or group can change or access which content types.
