A day in the life of a collge intern

I'm working alone on a project for a company that required that I learn java. Java in and of itself isn't that difficult to pick up. However, one problem that i've run into is that I'm trying to run video through a program that requires me to program in a custom codec. I just can't figure out for the life of me how to do this. The codec is provided by IBM (http://www.alphaworks.ibm.com/tech/mpeg-4) and is made speciffically for java. Could someone post a snippet of code on how to do this? A throrough explanation is not really necessary if I have code to look at.
Could someone help me out? No one else in my workplace is even familiar with java and I've been struggling with this problem for some time now.
Thanks
Nik

I beleive you just make the app like any other JMF application, and you have to register the IBM Codec with the JMF registry. Then Java is able to find the codec. I dont think you have to say "Go through the IBM Codec". You just say play the movie and java trys all the codecs until it plays or an error is thrown.

  • DOES ANYONE KNOW THE LIFE OF THESE MAXTOR INTERNAL DRIVE ON IMACS

    I WANT TO KNOW WHAT IS THE LIFE OF THE INTERNAL MAXTOR DRIVE ON MY IMAC 20 INCH DUO CORE. I want to also know how I could expand the life of this drive with out having to know that it would just die on me one day.

    I use SMARTreporter in my desktop menu for a visual que to the SMART status of my hard drive.
    Product Description:
    SMARTReporter is an application that can warn you of some ATA hard disk failures before they actually happen! It does so by periodically polling the S.M.A.R.T.-status of your hard disk. S.M.A.R.T. (Self-Monitoring Analysis and Reporting Technology) is a technology built into most modern hard disks that acts as an "early warning system" for pending drive problems. Because SMARTReporter relies on the S.M.A.R.T. implementation of Mac OS X, it only supports ATA or S-ATA hard disks, if you want S.M.A.R.T. support for your FireWire hard disk, send feedback to Apple. SMARTReporter can notify you of impending hard disk failures by sending e-mails, displaying a warning dialog or executing an application. The current status of your hard disks is always displayed through the customizable menu item.

    Unfortunately, unless you set up an iCloud account on the iPod and turned on Find My iPod before it was stolen, no.  Even if you did do that, there are many ways it could fail (for example, the thief could wipe it clean or not try to connect to a network or the network's location might not be known).  But, you could try it by logging in to iCloud and using the Find My iPhone applet.

  • One of the best days of my life

    Just got home from a twelve-hour day of work, and got on my computer, which just finished a batch conversion of 6,000 files from FLAC to LAME MP3 for use on my iPod, added the files to iTunes, checked for updates, downloaded iTunes 7, and was floored to see that iTunes was (and still is) "determining gapless playback information."
    While I've done no testing yet with my new MP3s in iTunes or on my iPod, all I can say is THANK YOU APPLE FOR LISTENING TO YOUR FAITHFUL CUSTOMERS!!!
    Whatever the result or the bugs that come up, this is going to be a working solution that so many of us have been waiting on for many years. Of course I'll be busy with testing and contributing whatever information I can on various results of testing different supported file formats for proper gapless playback, etc. and checking to see what others have discovered and reported, but to put it simply, this is in a lot of days one of the happiest days of my life--and most of my days are happy ones!
    Cheers to Apple, and to all of you who have used iTunes/iPod over the years and submitted your feedback to Apple about the issue of gapless playback with their hardware and software.

    Ah, but since you took the time to read and post, I think you must be giving iTunes a chance
    I also keep my entire music collection in FLAC format and don't plan to change that, but for most listening purposes (PC, Mac, iPod) my LAME MP3s sound just fine. They encode at about 16x real time on my PC with foobar2000 + LAME 3.97b3, and I apply RG adjustments at the same go.
    Definitely nothing to complain about here!

  • HT5731 I bought a full season of a TV show. I downloaded all episodes. When I go into my iTunes library, select the episodes I get a message of: This computer is already associated with an Apple ID. I can't for the life of me get the TV show to play.

    I bought a full season of a TV show. I downloaded all episodes, I went to my  iTunes library, selected the episode I wanted to watch. I got this message: This computer is already associated with an Apple ID. I can't for the life of me get the TV shows to play. I went on iTunes and when to my purchases. Clicked on the episodes and the same message popped up. How do I get these to play? I also see my download box with an error message saying it has paused the download. I click unpause and it just pauses again. I have been able to get one of the episodes to play once through, but now it gives me the same message.

    It's been months, so you may not care anymore, but you can't download songs from multiple Apple IDs over a 90 days period.  Sorry, it's not allowed for legal reasons.

  • United Kingdom Regional Format sets Monday as the first day of the week.

    With the Region Settings (Settings -> General -> International -> Region Format) set to United Kingdom, Calendar displays Monday as the first day of the week. I have seen other posts whereby it was suggested to change to US Internationalization but this will also change the date and telephone number formats to US settings, far more frustrating.
    Have I been sheltered from properly formatted calendars all my life or is this a mistake and it should start the week on Sunday. It is consistent in both the Week and Month view.
    Am I crazy or does anyone else agree with is?

    Same here. One of the first things I do in this sort of application is switch week start to Mondays.

  • HT2188 I bought my iPhone 4s Nov. 20.  I updated immediately to ios6.0 and cannot make it through even 1 day without the battery going down to almost zero.  Thats with apps closed, wifi off, screen off, etc.  It's a horror.  I have to constantly keep char

    I purchased an iPhone 4s on Nov. 20th.  I immediately had to update the software to ios 6.0.1.  I cannot even get through 1 day without the phone battery losing all power.  It loses 10-20% per hour, and that's with apps closed, wifi off, bluetooth off, screen dark, updates current, etc.  You can hold the phone in your hand and watch the power go down.  It also gets very warm.  I have to charge it once or twice a day so I have it when I need it.
    I took it in to the Sprint store for diagnostics to see if there was something wrong with the phone.  They said the phone is ok, but one of the agents said it's the last update - he has had problems ever since.  He said he thought they are working on fixing it & we should be getting another update to fix it.  Is this true?  I sure hope so!  They also showed me how to reboot the phone, especially when it gets so warm.  Is there anything else I need to do?  Please help!
    This is my first iPhone and I am very frustrated and disappointed in Apple.  If it's the software, I would think they would be frantically trying to fix it.  This phone was not the cheapest phone, so the battery life should be better!

    After some troubleshooting, I decided to order a new battery.  I replaced the battery and was then able to get it to restore, however--after I restore it and it comes time to restart the phone, it gets stuck and doesn't turn on.
    Sorry, your repair ruined the iPhone.
    She does not have apple care and even though she loved this device, she isn't going to buy another iPhone because of all the problems shes had with this one (it's just over a year old).
    After you ruined the iPhone with DIY, Apple won't touch it anymore. You should have asked before all these had happened.
    I'm an android user myself and I love rooting/flashing new ROMS, so if jailbreaking her phone or doing some kind of super-restore with 3rd party programs might help, I'm all for it-
    Yeah, all Android user can think of is Jailbreaking, read this: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3743

  • At what percentage should I to charge my macbook pro and prolong the life of my battery?

    I want to prolong the life of my laptop battery.  I just got a new macbook pro and want to know the proper way to charge the battery.

    The first days: leave it on the charger, until it says 100% for a few days.
    Then from time to time use it without the charger connected. Let it loose charge until about 50-60% full, then reconnect the charger. You have to keep the "electrons flowing". In the past they said to "calibrate" the battery, but that just calibrates the electronics, not the battery, and you don't do that anymore.

  • Using my macbook pro whole day with the power adapter , will it affect my battery? Please help

    Using my macbook pro whole day with the power adapter , will it affect my battery? Please help

    It doesn't affect the battery. You can use your MacBook Pro plugged in all the time without damaging the battery. You only have to be sure that you unplug it and run a battery cycle (drain the battery without letting the Mac turn off and charge it fully) at least once a month to keep the battery life.

  • The life (in years) of a Ink

    What is the life(In years) of printer ink which is closed in the original packaging , for example the 932XL for printer "HP OfficeJet 6700 printer premium"
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    The 932 cartrdiges typically have a two year warranty.  Some HP printers enforce "expiration" of supplies to prevent damage to the printer if old thickened ink is used, but the Officejet 6700 does not do this.
    Cartridges do have a shelf life, but I have used cartridges a decade old in my Designjet 650c. The cartridges can lose water vapor over time even through the packaging.  This is especially an issue if the environment is particurlarily hot and dry.  If I was going to store cartridges for years I would put then in a zip-lock sandwich bag in the package and put them in the fridge (not the freezer).  Take them out a day before you would need them and let them get back to room temperature before installing them in the printer.

  • Ipod disabled and i can't for the life of me restore it HELP PLEASE!

    Okay so last year I bought an ipod touch 2nd gen off a friend I lost it 3 months later the other day my mom managed to find it in the stuff I left behind. It's passcoded to prevent my brother hacking into it, and wouldn't you know it I can't hack it for the life of me and i no longer have the computer it was synced to. I've looked threw the forum and people keep linking to a restore page but i can't seem to restore it. Could someone walk me through it step by step? It would be great to have an ipod again.
    I'm not getting error messages just the apple pops up and itunes tells me it can not access my ipod with the password on it.

    ConPlace the iPOd in Recovery mode and connect to your computer and restore via iTunes.
    For how to restore:

  • Day of the week keeps disappearing from menu bar

    This obviously isn't a life and death problem, but when I select "Show day of the week in the menu bar" in System Settings--(approximate translation, my system's in Russian), the day of the week will show up for a few moments and then vanish. I like having the day of the week there. Any idea how to get it to stick?

    hey, I've found a way to fix it at last
    here's what I just did step by step:
    1)downloaded a com.apple.menuextra.clock.plist file from a Snow Leopard machine to see the difference and replaced my file on Lion with this one. to display the day of the week the file should look like this:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">
    <plist version="1.0">
    <dict>
              <key>DateFormat</key>
              <string>E d MMM  H:mm</string>
              <key>FlashDateSeparators</key>
              <false/>
              <key>IsAnalog</key>
              <false/>
    </dict>
    </plist>
    where "E" I guess is responsible for the day.
    2) went to the preferences of com.apple.menuextra.clock.plist and made it protected (just marked a checkbox in the file's properties window)
    3) deleted the com.apple.menuextra.clock.plist.lockfile (located in the same folder, as the plist we edit)
    4) locked the changes in time/date system settings and tried to unlock it a few times entering a wrong password (kinda strange, dunno why I did that, just felt like it )
    so now after I reboot, log out with or without opened windows restoration I still see the day of the week

  • My iPhone, whole day on the dock

    Hello,
    I use my iphone at my office. May I have the iphone constantly in the dock?
    This does not affect the performance of the battery? considering that in this way the iphone is the whole day in the dock?
    Awaiting replies!
    Regards

    You can keep your iPhone connected to the dock all day, it won't hurt the battery life.
    Check this out -> Apple - Batteries
    Standard Technology
    Lithium-ion polymer batteries pack in a higher power density than nickel-based batteries. This gives you a longer battery life in a lighter package, as lithium is the lightest metal. You can also recharge a lithium-ion polymer battery whenever convenient, without the full charge or discharge cycle necessary to keep nickel-based batteries at peak performance. (Over time, crystals build up in nickel-based batteries and prevent you from charging them completely, necessitating an inconvenient full discharge.)

  • How can I prolong the life of my display on a macbook pro 2008

    how do u prolong the life of a macbook pro 2008 life?

    Just use it. One day, your machine will fail. It could be 10 years from now, it could be tomorrow. Even if you had AppleCare, you'd be out of warranty now. Just use your machine as you have for the past 4 years. My first MacBook Pro - a 2006 1,1 model - lasted me for over six years and is still going strong somewhere in Minnestota. Only thing I ever had to have replaced was the fans. May you be so lucky as well.

  • How can I alter a calendar script to place progressive dates on every day in the calendar year?

    Is there an easy way either to alter the calendar script or create something that will allow for variable text in each day of the year?
    I am creating a calendar for a cattle rancher, and he wants to include a gestation calendar in the design.
    So...instead of the Julian date on every caledar day, he would like to include the date that a calf will be born if the cow had been bred on a particular day.  For example:  On the calendar date, January 1, in that box, another smaller date will appear - 10/9, On January 2 - 10/10 and so on. But, I need this progression to continue throughout the whole year.
    I have attempted to manually enter each date in a separate table and super impose it over the calendar, but this is very slow and very tedious. There has to be a faster way.
    I am comfortable looking at code and can often times figure out which fields to change, but I am a bit lost on this one. Where do I start?
    Please help!
    Thanks!

    That helped, but still did not solve the "continous scroll" question.
    I did however discover that if you go to Search and type in a "common" letter like "s", a Continuous List view will appear.
    Any further help on how to do this as a default view would be appreciated from any and all.
    Thanks for the help and for the link paulcb.
