A little help in AWT.. (reading a textfield from another class)

I got this Panel with a varying number of TextFields (to input a matrix).
so i did (in the Panel sub-class)
TextField Determinant[] = new TextField[l*l];
for (int i = 0; i < l*l; i++)
add(Determinant[i] = new TextField(""+i));
then i want to read them into a 2 dimensional array after pressing a button (in the Button subclass)
for (int i = 0; i < det.length; i++)
for (int j = 0; j < det.length; j++)
det[i][j] = (double)Panel1.Determinant[k].getText();
k += 1;
but then the compiler complains:
C:\java projects\GoButton.java:30: cannot resolve symbol
symbol : variable Panel1
location: class GoButton
det[i][j] = (double)Panel1.Determinant[k].getText();
how do i get the Button-subclass to "know" the Textfields in the Panel subclass?
(they're both public)
help please! :)

Is "Panel1" a class name or a variable or field name?
If the latter, you ought to use Java naming conventions: only class names and constants start with upper-case letters. So "Determinant" in your code is also poorly named.
Also I'd strong advise against using "l" (a single lower-case ell) as an identifier. It's really hard to read.
Also when you post code, please wrap it in

tags, so we can read it.
Assuming that "Panel1" is a field or variable -- then you need to either make it accessible by the other classes that need to access it, or better yet pass its value as an argument to those things that need it.
Or maybe restructure your code so that the things that need to use it are in the same class as Panel1, possibly as member classes.

• Calling a TextFields get method from another class as a String

This is my first post so be kind....
I'm trying to create a login screen with Java Studio Creator. The Login.jsp has a Text Field for both the username and password. JSC automatically created get and set methods for these.
public class Login extends AbstractPageBean
private TextField usernameTF = new TextField();
public TextField getUsernameTF() {
return usernameTF;
public void setUsernameTF(TextField tf) {
this.usernameTF = tf;
private PasswordField passwordTF = new PasswordField();
public PasswordField getPasswordTF() {
return passwordTF;
public void setPasswordTF(PasswordField pf) {
this.passwordTF = pf;
My problem is in trying to call these methods from another class and return the value as a string.
Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

the method returns the textfield, so you just need to get its text
import java.awt.*;
class Testing
public Testing()
Login login = new Login();
System.out.println(login.getUsernameTF().getText());//<----

class Login
private TextField usernameTF = new TextField("Joe Blow");
public TextField getUsernameTF() {
return usernameTF;
}

• Need help with EXS24 "read velocity range from file name"

I am trying to import 127 drum samples to a single key using the option shown here. The option says "Map to key dropped on and read velocity range from file name". I can find no documentation in the manuals on how to do this. What is the syntax required in the file name to make this work? I need to do several of these imports. The capability is cleary there, but I need help on how the file name should be formatted. My thanks to anyone who can help.

Hi
Not a direct answer to your question, but if you are doing a lot of sample mapping etc, you may want to check out Redmatica's KeyMap Pro or the simpler Keymap 1:

• Help required in reading a file from Shared location on Network

Hi,
I need help in reading a file from a shared location. Can you kindly tell me the pattern for inputting the shared location path. I am using fileUtilService>Exists
"\\Shiva\test\shared\eForms\temp.xlsx" is the actual location of the file. How should i input the location in the INPUT variable of EXISTS.

readResource content operation will fetch documents from Adobe Repository. Unless you checkin the required file into repository, the above error will remain.
From a shared folder, you should able to read the files using readDocument (using FileUtils) without any issues. Perhaps, the access rights prevent the execution.
If you are running JBoss as a windows service (turnkey will create a windows service for the JBoss instance), try the following:
Run -> services.msc -> Right click on JBoss service for Adobe LiveCycle -> Properties
Check the value given under logon tab. The User Account mentioned there should have appropriate access to the shared folder you are attempting read.

• Calling a function from another class - help!

I realize that this is probably a basic thing for people who have been working with JavaFX for a while, but it is eluding me, and I have been working on it for over a week.
I need to call a function that is in another class. Here's the deal. In EntryDisplayController.java, there are 2 possible passwords that can be accepted - one will give full access to the car, the second will limit functions on the car. So when a password is entered and verified as to which one it is, I need to call a function in MainDisplayController.java to set a variable that will let the system know which password is being used - full or restricted.
So in MainDisplayController.java I have this snippet to see
public class MainDisplayController implements Initializable, ControlledScreen {
ScreensController myController;
public static char restrict;
* Initializes the controller class.
@Override
public void initialize(URL url, ResourceBundle rb) {
// TODO
public void setRestriction(){
restrict = 0;
restrictLabel.setText("RESTRICTED");
public void clearRestriction(){
restrict = 1;
restrictLabel.setText("");
And in EntryScreenDisplay.java I have this snippet:
public class EntryDisplayController implements Initializable, ControlledScreen {
@FXML
private Label passwordLabel ;
static String password = new String();
static String pwd = new String("");
ScreensController myController;
private MainDisplayController controller2;
* Initializes the controller class.
@Override
public void initialize(URL url, ResourceBundle rb) {
setPW(pwd);    // TODO
@FXML
private void goToMainDisplay(ActionEvent event){
if(password.equals ("123456")){
controller2.clearRestriction();
myController.setScreen(ScreensFramework.MainDisplayID);
pwd = "";
password = "";
setPW(pwd);
else if(password.equals ("123457")){
controller2.setRestriction();
myController.setScreen(ScreensFramework.MainDisplayID);
pwd = "";
password = "";
setPW(pwd);
else{
password = "";
pwd = "";
setPW(pwd);
When I enter the restricted (or full) password, I get a long list of errors, ending with
Caused by: java.lang.NullPointerException
at velocesdisplay.EntryDisplayController.goToMainDisplay(EntryDisplayController.java:60)
Line 60 is where "controller2.setRestriction(); is.
As always, thanks for any help.
Kind regards,
David

You never set the controller2 variable to anything, which is why you get a null pointer exception when you try to reference it.
public static variables (and even singletons) are rarely a good idea as they introduce global state (sometimes they can be, but usually not).
If a static recorder like this can only have a binary value, use a boolean, if it can have multiple values, use an enum.
Some of the data sharing solutions in dependency injection - Passing Parameters JavaFX FXML - Stack Overflow might be more appropriate.
I also created a small framework for roll based solutions in JavaFX which perhaps might be useful:
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/19666982/is-there-a-way-to-implement-a-property-like-rendered-on-javafx
https://gist.github.com/jewelsea/7229260
It was just something I hacked together, so it's not a fully polished solution and you probably don't need something quite so complex.
What you need is a model class shared between the components of your application. Dependency injection frameworks such as afterburner.fx can help achieve this in a fairly simple to use way.
If you don't want to go with a dependency injection framework, then you could use either a static singleton model class for your settings or pass the model class using the mechanism in defined in the passing parameters link I provided. For a model class example, see the ClickCounter class from this example. That example doesn't use FXML, but to put it together with the passing parameters solution, for your restriction model, you would have something like the following:
private class Restricted {
private final ReadOnlyBooleanWrapper restricted;
public Restricted(boolen isRestricted) {
restricted = new ReadOnlyBooleanWrapper(isRestricted);
public boolean isRestricted() {
return restricted.get();
public ReadOnlyBooleanProperty restrictedProperty() {
return restricted.getReadOnlyProperty();
Then in your EntryDisplayController you have:
@FXML
public void goToMainDisplay(ActionEvent event) {
// determine the restriction model as per your original code...
RestictionModel restrictionModel = new RestrictionModel(<appropriate value>);
FXMLLoader loader = new FXMLLoader(
getClass().getResource(
"mainDisplay.fxml"
Stage stage = new Stage(StageStyle.DECORATED);
stage.setScene(
new Scene(
(Pane) loader.load()
MainDisplayController controller =
loader.<MainDisplayController>getController();
controller.initRestrictionModel(restrictionModel);
stage.show();
class MainDisplayController() {
@FXML private RestrictionModel restrictionModel;
@FXML private RestrictLabel restrictLabel;
public void initialize() {}
// naming convention (if the restriction model should only be set once per controller, call the method init, otherwise call it set).
public void initRestrictionModel(RestrictionModel restrictionModel) {
this.restrictionModel = restrictionModel;
// take some action based on the new restriction model, for example
restrictLabel.textProperty.bind(
restrictionModel.restrictedProperty().asString()
If you have a centralized controller for your navigation and instantiation of your FXML (like in this small FXML navigation framework), then you can handle the setting of restrictions on new screens centrally within the framework at the point where it loads up FXML or navigates to a screen (it seems like you might already have something like this with your ScreensController class).
If you do this kind of stuff a lot, then you would probably benefit from a move to a framework like afterburner. If it is just a few times within your application, then perhaps something like the above outline will give you enough guidance to implement a custom solution.

• Help please! Using an array in another class

Hello, I'm new to JAVA and I'm trying to pass an array from one class to another, but I can't get it right. I've been able to get individual values on at a time.
If any one can help me out and give me a quick sample of how to do it,
I've done this below.
Is it as simple as an individual value - but just calling it an array - instead of say a string - or is it more complex. Please Help
class BoxVol extends Box {
public static void main (String args[]) {
Box ob1 = new Box();
int[] vol;
ob1.getLength();
vol = ob1.getLength();
System.out.println("Volume is : " + vol);
} class Box {
// what are the properties or fields
private int innerData [];
//public String length2 = "text";
// what are the actions or methods
public void setLength(String p)
innerData = new int [5];
for (int i=0; i < innerData.length; i++)  {
innerData = i;
public int[] getLength()
return innerData;

would this solve my problem
1st :
ob1.getLength();
//Should be....
vol = ob1.getLength();
No you are missing my point. You original code was calling the getLength method twice. On the first line it did nothing with the returned value and on the second you assigned the returned value to vol. But the setLength method is where you actually create the array and assign values to it. So unless you call that method first then you will not have an array at all.
>
2nd:
System.out.println("Volume is : " + vol);
should be
System.out.println("Volume is : " + vol.length);
Yes you could do that but all that will tell you is the length of the array and not what values are in it.
.or vol[i] to go through it if I make a loop around it??Yep, sounds like a much better idea to me.

• Can somebody help me in notifying the thread from junit class.

I am writing a junit test case for the following kind of scenario.
There is a private inner class B that is enclosed with in class A.
class A
int i=1;
B threadB;
void AFun()
while(i<10)
threadB=new B();

private class B extends Thread
void run()
while(true)
System.out.println(i);
i++;
waitThread();
if(i==10) {
break;
public synchronized void waitThread(){
try {
this.wait();
} catch (InterruptedException e) {
e.printStackTrace();
public synchronized void notifyThread(){
this.notify();
now i want to notify class B from the junit class ATest if the thread is in waiting state.. is there any way to notify the class B threadB from test class.
//JUNIT Class
Class ATest
Class c;
A a=new A();
c=a.getClass();
Field BThread=c.getDeclaredField("ThreadB");
BThread.setAccessible(true);
Object obj=BThread.get(a);
a.AFun();
while(true){
if(((Thread)obj).getState()==Thread.State.WAITING)
// Is there any way to notify the thread B that is waiting or to call notifyThread of private class B over obj
}

Well, sinced no one has any ideas, here's my two cents worth.
You can create a public static class variable in either Class A or Class B. as follows:
public static String temp;
Then either class can change the value by having this in a function:
ClassA.temp="abc"
and either class can read it from within a function by calling
String n1= ClassA.temp;
If you want to get fancy, you can put use a java collection instead of a string. The collection will store various information on what your doing such as which class changed the value and when.

I haven't used Java in a good long while so I need someone to point me in the right direction. I have a C program that I call from a command line (windoze boxen) and it spits out some neat data. I can call it from inside a Java program, but how do I then read the output from the calling Java program? I'd just alter the C program, but I lost the source.

I think you have to luanch your MS Prompt first before executing the command.

• Help with utl_file (read/write file from local directory)

Need help reading/writing file on local machine from plsql using 10.2 DB.
I am trying to read/write a file from a local directory(laptop) without success.
I have been able to read/write to the database server directory but can't write to directory on local machine.
The utl_file_dir parm has been set to * and the db restarted but I can't get it to work... Here's the plsql statement.
out_file := UTL_FILE.FOPEN ( 'C:\PLSQL', 'TEST.TXT', 'W' ,32767);
Whenever I run it continues to write to c:\PLSQL dir on the database server. Have looked at the "Directory" object and created MY_DIR = C:\PLSQL but it writes to the db server.
Running 10.2 on a remote windows server, running PLSQL using sql*navigator.
Thanks in advance for your help..

I don't see how you expect the server to be able to see your laptop across the network, hack into it and start writing files. Even if it could, what if there is more than one laptop with a C: drive? How would it know which one to write to?
Is there a shared drive on the server you can access via the laptop?

• Plesae help- needing to read a blob from db into bytes[]

Hi all,
I am having a requirement to read a blob stored in the oracle table and convert it into bytes. I am loading this table (wwv_flow_files) with APEX.
The code under page 1 is as follows:
DECLARE
z number;
y varchar2(4000);
x varchar2(400);
b blob;
BEGIN
select filename,blob_content into x ,b from APEX_APPLICATION_files where name =:P1_FILE_NAME;
select length(convertBlobToBytes(b)) into z from dual;
:P1_RESULT := z;
end;
Java code is as follows:
import java.io.*;
import java.sql.Blob;
public class convertBlob {
* @param blob
* @return
public static byte[] convertBlobToBytes(Blob blob) {
if (blob==null) return null;
try {
InputStream in = blob.getBinaryStream();
int len = (int) blob.length(); //read as long
long pos = 1; //indexing starts from 1
byte[] bytes = blob.getBytes(pos, len);
in.close();
return bytes;
catch (Exception e) {
System.out.println(e.getMessage());

PL/SQL wrapper is as follows:
CREATE OR REPLACE FUNCTION convertBlobToBytes(p1 IN BLOB) RETURN LONG RAW AUTHID CURRENT_USER AS LANGUAGE JAVA NAME 'convertBlob.convertBlobToBytes(java.sql.Blob) return byte[]';
I loaded this java class and pl/sql wrapper into the database using JDEVELOPER.
But I am getting the length of the file, as twice the size.
For example, When I run the program which reads the file returns the length of the file as a byte array, the length is 819.
When I pass the same file as a blob from apex, to the java program that converts blob to bytes, the length of the file is 1638.
And hence I am getting wrong results, further in the process.
Can you please help me? Any help is appreciated.

• A little help with getting varaibles from another class

hey,
so i have these two classes and they both are GUI's. the first main class is called GUI (very original) and he second is called adder. so when i click a button on GUI it creates and shows the adder GUI wich gets user input, when the user clicks the done button on the adder gui it does this this:
* method to dispose of the gui without deleting the object
public void close()
addWindow.dispose();
* method for when the done button is clicked

personPin = epin.getText();

public void addPart2()
lm.addElement(adder.personName + "-" + adder.personID + "-" + adder.personAddress + "-" + adder.personPin );
}(all varibless are public by the way), so when i go and have a method directly call adderPart2 right after the adder gui is closed it comes up with all variables bieng null, but if i go in and manualy call the method without doing anything else it works, can anyone explainthis and/or hellp me?

so does anyone have a solution for this problem or at least know what is happening?

Hi
my problem is, for each job_id there is many users. Oh that's something completlty different...
I Strongly Recommand to_
1.*create 2 tables Jobs & users*
2.*create a relation between them* 1 to many to get for each job more than a user that's the way that Must be -- execuse me the bad design of the db pulled u into this trap -
3.then u can deal with it normally no need to a sample code but just a form with Jobs as (Master) and Users as (detail) with a relation and with a simple query u can display each job_id is for many users.
no null values no commas r needed.
Hope this helps...
