A question about "AI acquire waveform.vi ".

I use my DAQcard(PCI-6024E) to acquire two AI signal at the same time through AI acquire waveform.vi.
But it is getting into a serious delay on my executing progarm by monitoring my time depended plot or time-counter(It is about 5 seconds in the real world vs. 1 second the program runs.).
however,I didn't encounter that problem when altering another AI vi(AI sample channel.vi),but it couldn't conform to my needs.
My AI acquisition program structure is "AI acquire waveform+equi-Ripple lowpass+mean" and another is "AI acquire waveform+mean".All settings are default except the high and low limit. So,does anyone solve my troubles?I really need help!!

Hello;
The best way to go about that is to use the Labview shipping example named Continuous Acquisition and Chart (buffered).vi that you can find at Search Examples->I/O Interfaces->Data Acquisition->Analog Input->Continuous Analog Input; as the start point for your development.
That vi shows the best way to do a data acquisition. You can insert you average VI inside the while loop of that VI.
Hope this helps.

    hi there
from the NI main page go to the developer zone http://www.ni.com/devzone/dev_exchange/ex_search.htm. select "LabVIEW" and "Digital Multimeter (DMM)" and search for "4070". then you'll find some examples.

  • Question about "Native ISO" and Color Grading in PP

I have a question about "Native ISO" in the real world and how it relates to color grading.  I was shooting 35mm film before all these digital cameras became flat-out amazing practically overnight.  Then the goal was always to shoot with the lowest ISO possible to achieve the least amount of grain (unless you were making an artistic decision to get that look).  If I was shooting outside plus had a nice lighting package I'd shoot 5201/50 ASA (Daylight) and 5212/100 ASA (Tungsten) 99 times out of 100.
I've recently been shooting a lot with the Blackmagic 4K and have read that its "Native ISO" is 400.  Because of my film background this seems counter-intuitive.  Yesterday I was shooting for a client and had the camera at an f16 with a 200 ISO.  Because of what I'd read, I was tempted stop down to an f22 and change my ISO to 400... but the "little film voice in my head" just wouldn't let me do it.  It kept telling me "Higher ISO means more noise... stay at 200 and you will get a cleaner image".
So how does it work with "Native ISO"?  Should I really shoot at a 400 ISO every chance I get in order to capture the best image for how the camera is calibrated?  Will it really give me more latitude when color grading?  Or would I still get a cleaner image staying at ISO 200?   I've Googled around quite, but haven't found any articles that answer specifically this question.  Would love to hear from someone who knows a bit more on the subject or has a link that could point me in the right direction.
    Thanks much.

Hey, shooter ... yea, interesting discussion and always nice to learn. Great pic, too!
    jamesp2 ...
Great answer. I've followed quite a bit of the discussion about the BM cams as well, one does feel a need to check out the possibilities for that next beastie one will need to acquire. But ... which one?
I've always been a bit of a hard-case about testing testing testing. For instance, what happens with dome down or use of a flat diffuser vs. dome in the up position in metering? Back in the film days, we had our own lab and did our own printing as well as the um ... difficult images ... from other studios. I needed to know how to get exactly the same diffuse highlight no matter whether it was a "standard" light 3:1 studio shot, or a near-profile with no fill that needs dark shadows. I tested & burned through boxes of medium-format polaroid & 120 film and a lot of color paper. Finding? To get the same print time no matter the contrast or lighting style, needed to be metered either with the flat disc (Minolta) or dome-down (Sekonic) and held at the highlight-location pointed at the main light source. I could meter and nail the exposure every time. Ahh no, insist so many ... one must have the dome on/up and pointed at the camera! Right. Do that, change the contrast, and see what happens to your diffuse forehead highlight on a densitometer ... and see how your printing exposure times change. Oh, and you've just moved your center-of-exposure up or down on the film's H&D curve, which will also change the way the shadows & highlights print. In truth, though it was subtle, we had realistically no matter latitude for a best-case image with pro neg film as one had with chromes. You could probably get away with being "off" easier, but it still wasn't dead-on.
So wading into video ... oi vey, you may have noticed the things claimed here there & everywhere ... this setting is God's Gift to Humanity but no, it's total crap ... this sensor is totally flawed but someone else is certain it's the finest piece out there. Yes, opinions will be all over ... but ... in film, it was the densitometer. In video, it's the scopes. Truth. And getting to that can be a right pain. I've seen quite a few contradictory comments about using the BM cams in film mode and also at ISO 200. Yours above gives the most ... comforting? ... explanation (for me) because of your reference to your scopes & the waveform patterns. Thank you.
    Love to learn ...

  • Comedi read command and acquire waveforms VIs

I am wondering about the implementation of the comedi read command in the VIs I got from the NI site.
One of the VIs is called "acquire waveforms" which calls "comedi read". everything seems to be working fine, but I am very curious about a small part of the comedi read VI.
If you look closely at it, you will see that after reading in the samples using the CIN that just calls read() , there is a formula node that basically asks the VI to save only the first half of the array. I am wondering why this would be so? Does it have to do with the way read() works?
I tried changing the VI so that the all bytes from the read() call are entered into the "data" array. But when I do this, labview gets stuck.
    any ideas?

  • Question about the programming of a legend

    Hello everybody,
    I have a question about the programming of a waveform's legend. I
already asked here in this forum about the legend programming (03)
    months ago.
I went satisfied but I ve just noticed that this code
(See Code old_legend_test.llb with main.vi as main function) operates a
    little different from my expectances.
Therefore I have a new question and I want to know if it
is possible by labview programming to plot and show, on a waveform
chart, a signal with activ plot superior to zero (0) without to be
obliged to plot and show a signal with activ plot equal to zero (0) or
inferior to the desired activ plot.
    I give you an example
    of what I m meaning. I have by example 4 signals (Signal 0, 1, 2 and 3)
and each signal corresponds respectively to a channel (Chan1, Chan2,
Chan3, Chan4). I want to control the legend (activ plot, plot name and
plot color) programmatically. Is it possible with labview to plot signal
    1 or 2 or 3 or (1, 3) or (2,3) or (1,2,3) or other possible combination
without to active the signal with the corresponding activ plot zero
    (0)?
Let see the labview attached data
(new_legend_test.llb with main.vi as main function). When I try to
control the input selected values again I get them back but I don't
understand why they have no effect on the legend of my waveform chart.
Could somebody explain me what I m doing wrong or show me how to get a
correct legend with desired plots? Thank by advance for your assistance.
    N.B.
    The
both attached data are saved with labview 2009.

    Hi
    princejack,
    Thanks for
    posting on National Instruments forum.
    The behavior
you have is completely normal. You can control the number of row displayed in
the legend and this rows are linked to the data you send to your graph. Thus,
if you have 3 arrays of data, let say chan1, chan2 and chan3, you can choose
which data you want to display in your graph using the property node (Active
plot and visible). But for the legend as you send 3 plots there is an array of
    the plot name [chan1, chan2, chan3] and you can display 0, 1, 2 or 3 rows of
this array but you cannot control the order in this array! So, to be able to
change this array you have to only send data you need to you graph. I'm not
sure my explanations are clear so I have implemented a simple example doing
    that.

  • How to use AI acquire waveform.vi for continuous acquisition

    Hello all,
I am using LabVIEW 5.1 and PCI-6023E to acquire a voltage signal continuously, display the acquired data on a chart(display one minute of data at a time)then save all the acquired data to a spreadsheet file.
When I used the random number as a signal to develop my program; everything has worked as expected. However,it is not working now as I replace the random number with a real voltage signal using the AI Acquire Waveform.vi. I have encounterd several problems:
1/ Only display one second of data at a time.
2/ The elapse time that I have calculated does not match with the time display on the chart.
3/ The program runs very very slow when I increase the number of scans
to acquire to 1000, but my program need to acquire the signal for 15 minutes at a rate of 50Hz(50sample/second); it is about 50,000.00 samples.
Do you have any idea how should I do to make it works? I am a novice in LabVIEW; any help would be greatly appriciate.

P.S: I've attached my program if you want to take a look at them.

  • I want to ask the question about phasor measurement.

I want to ask the question about phasor measurement.the first one is that how can I accomplish the sychronized sampling with GPS?The other question is that how can I adjust the sampling rate for DAQ when the system frequency alter continuously.(if I used the DFT,due to the altering of frequency,I can't get the completed waveform)"

Synchronising DAQ with GPS depends on the DAQ sampling rate. If the rate is higher than 2 Hz you can sample the 1PPS pulse of your GPS receiver together with your data.
You change the sampling rate with the AI Clock Config.vi. You cannot do this on the fly so you must stop DAQ with AI Control.vi reconfigure the sampling rate and then start it again.

  • AI Acquire Waveforms High and Low Limit

    Hey everybody,
I am currently working with Labview 7.1 and a daq card. I am collecting 4 channels and using ai acquire waveforms to do this. I want to have different high and low voltage limits for each channel though. Is there a way to do this with ai acquire waveforms or would can I use something else.
    Thanks for the help!
    Devon

    Hey Devon,
In addition to what David said, there is a great knowledgebase article here with more information about setting multiple ranges for Analog Input.  The Traditional DAQ vi, AI Acquire Waveforms, doesn't expose the ability to set multle input ranges per channel, but there is a quick fix that you can do to be able to add it to the vi.  See below:
The block diagram of the AI Acquire waveforms is as follows:
As you can see, the inputs of the vi that are exposed are simply the first element in a array of clusters including the high and low limits per channel.  To set the high and low limits for other channels, you need to simply add another element to the array for channels 1, 2, and 3.  See below:
Here you can see I simply added one element, you need to add 2 more for your 4 channels.  If it turns out that you are using DAQmx and this doesn't apply, please refer to the knowledgebase above for details and an examples on how to set different ranges.

    Paul C.

  • Ai acquire waveform.vi

    Hi,
Recently I receive a code from my senior to read data from DAQ bnc-2090. I have installed DAQmx 9.3 but I cannot run the code due to "cannot load ai acquire waveform.vi." I have find the answers that an old version of DAQ driver is needed. However, TDAQ driver is only suitable for Windows XP/2000, and I use Windows 7. What should I do to solve this problem?  Thank you.

The only driver for that card is traditional DAQ and you've already found out that it is not supported on Windows 7 so why this question?

  • Can I acquire waveform at faster sampling rate using external clock?

I am trying to acquire waveform at a sampling rate of 1MHz. My 6036E card is maxed out at 200KHz. Is there a way to achieve a sampling rate of 1MHz using an external sample clock? Your PFI pin can take external clock as an AI sample clock, right?

    Hi,
I remember I asked the similar question before in the NI forum, they reply me:
the max sample rate (scan/s/channel) cannot be greater than your board max sample rate, even you use external scan clcok. So the answer is no for your case.

  • Maybe a simple question about M2T ?

    Hi
I record in HDV on the JVC GY 101.
I store on the Focus Enhancements DR HD100 Hard disk recorder.
The footage I have is in HDV 25frames Progressive.
The hard disk stores as m2t file and I seem to need to use Mpeg streamclip to convert for Final Cut Pro HD.
I have a few questions about this.
    1) What should i convert to with mpeg streamclip ? mov, dv m2v etc etc
    2) What setting should I have on FCP with regards to screen size ? The converted clips are 1280x720. When I choose this setting on the sequence, I end up with small black bars left and right of the video on the canvas ???
    3) I will also later have to add some digi beta footage which will be PAL, 720x576 Anamorphic.
    4) What is the best resolution for me here ?
    5) And will the quality of the original m2t file be downgraded by the mpeg streamclip ?
Thanks so much for your help
    All the best
    Simon

HDV isn't an "edit-friendly" format, meaning: HDV uses inter-frame compression, combined with a long group-of-pictures (GOP) of 15 frames (12 frames in PAL-equivalent). In intra-frame compression (as in DV, DVCPRO HD, etc.), each video frame is a complete image that stands alone. Inter-frame compression (which is also used in DVDs) uses only a limited number of complete image frames, the GOP determines that number. So, in HDV for example, with a GOP of 15 frames, 1 second of 30fps video contains only 2 complete frames, while the other 28 frames are determined by calculations used in conjunction with the Bi-directional ('B') and Predicted ('P') frames, which contain partial information on the changes in the video in between the 'I' frames which contain whole images. This process, of course, requires much more computer processing power than when editing DV, DVCPRO HD, Uncompressed, etc.
Editing video streams such as HDV (and XDCAM HD) is made difficult by the reduced number of I-frames. For example, if you make a cut in between the I-frames in the video clip, the computer has to then recalculate new I-frames that are placed at both sides of the cut. Converting on capture/after import to an intra-frame codec like DVCPRO HD, ProRes 422, or Uncompressed will reduce processing power and increase real-time performance, as well as give better performance when adding effects and performing compositing like chroma-keying.
A common rule of thumb in professional applications is to acquire in HDV, XDCAM HD, etc., but capture and edit in DVCPRO HD, ProRes 422, or even Uncompressed. Native HDV editing is not taboo by any means; it's just not as easy or robust -- especially with the LONG render times. Depending on what kind of work you do (and of course personal preference), you may not see much benefit by transcoding to another format.
Are you suggesting i have to convert each clip after capture?
Unless you have an HDV deck with HD-SDI and a capture card, you would have to convert each clip. Batch-conversion would be very useful for that.
    Hope that helps.

  • Pause scanning for AI Acquire waveform...

    Hi... i'm using labVIEW 7.1...
I'm also playing a DAQ hardware now... i using it to read signals in real time through AI Acquire Waveform....
what i wanna ask is "possible to pause the AI Acquire Waveform by clicking a button"?

    Hello Jaxx!
There is no way to change the code generated by the DAQ Assistant to become a Traditional DAQ function. However, we can apply the same concepts that we talked about earlier to get the same functionality in Traditional DAQ that we had using DAQmx. The easiest way to accomplish this is to get an example of a finite analog acquisition using the Traditional DAQ driver. There should be plenty of these examples in LabVIEW that can be found in "C:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW 7.1\examples\daq\anlogin" or by using the NI Example Finder in LabVIEW. Then, you could be all of this code inside of a case structure that is controlled by a button on the front panel. A while loop would then be placed around the case structure so that the program will run until the user stops it completely.
    Hope this helps,
