ABAP Editor - Get selected text

Hi experts,
I created a menu exit in se38 and i wanted to retrieve the text that was selected in the editor once the menu item has been clicked.
Is that possible?

This only provides the full text of the text box... I was hoping to get the selected text...
Now, I know that the selected text is lost when the field loses focus, but I also know that the selected text remains selected until after the exit event fires fully.
To test this, thow an 'xfa.host.messageBox("is it still selected?")' into the exit event of a text box... Run the form, write a line, select a part of it, then exit the text box. You'll get an alert, and the text is still selected. The way I see it, this would be as good a time as any to get the selected text, I just need to know how.
I've tried several javascript methods, but they were all designed for web browsers. The only thing else that is similar that I can find is the selStart/selEnd attributes that get filled with the selection indexes on the change event. I'm just now looking at how these attributes work.
Does anyone know if it's possible to use these attributes to get the selected indexes on exit?

Hi,
I am using an <af:inputText> component, within which I would want to know if any text has been selected.
InputText.getValue() would give me the total value that is there within the inputText component. But if I have selected a part of the text, I would like to get hold of that.
Is there a way in ADF, to get that selected Text ?

If I am to use javascript, can i directly use the IE/FF (browser-specific) code to get hold of the selected text ?
The ADF javascript API doesn't seem to have a way to get the selected text.

How to get selected text values in a textarea by mouse click?

Hi Everyone,
What I am trying to do is to click on some texts in a textarea, then get the selected text value.
If you guys have used an accounting software called Simply Accounting, you might understand better.
I list all my customer names in a textarea. What I want is, when I click on one customer, another GUI pops up with this customer's information. My problem is that I don't know how to get the selected text value from a textarea.
Could anyone give a hand here? Thank you in advance.

the user names/information?Thank you for es5f2000's reply. You just gave me a better idea! There is not a particular reason I have to use TextArea to list my customers. As long as the component can make my idea alive, I definitely use it. Still, if there is any way to get a selected text value, it will help me a lot with my project. Thank you.

JEditorPane - getting Selected Text or Active Line number

Is there any predefined method that will give me the current line selected or the line at which the cursor is?
I am displayed a piece of java code in my JEditorPane, the user can browse through the entire file.. and I need to call an event when a user selects/double clicks a particular module name or based on the current line number where the cursor is. Is there any simple technique to get the line number or the current highlighted text?
I am relatively new to JEditorPane. Also If you think I shoudl go upon writing an actionListener, a mouse of keyboard... please let me know how to go about it. I keep getting confused.

there any simple technique to get the line number Well, a JEditorPane is typically used for displaying HTML. So does a line number make sense when you don't know the contents of the HTML. If you simply have lines of text then you should be using a JTextArea or a JTextPane.

Editor Auto-Selects Text Won't Edit CS4

Hi,
I dunno what I did, but after 2 happy years with CS4, the editor has started doing something very annoying. Probably a stupid thing -I- did but I can't figure it out.
When I open a document, the cursor struggles to auto-select either an entire 'block' (eg. a DIV or even the entire file) and when I try to edit, it refuses... simply trying to 'select' the appropriate surrounding block of -whatever- rather than simply allowing for -editing-. What I have to do is double click on some arbitrary spot in the code, enter a space, then remove the space... and then it magically 'gives up' the fight and allows for straight editing.
What's going on? As I said, I'm sure it's some goofy preference but I can't figure out what it is.
Any ideas?

INCLUDE BDCRECX1 not displaying selection text in selection screen.

In my BDC program in using INCLUDE BDCRECX1, When i execute program in selection screen i am not getting selection texts.
what is the problem?

You are not getting selection texts because you have not maintained text symbols in your BDC program,

Problem regarding Selection Text for a Variable declared in ABAP

Hello Experts,
I am new to ABAP development. I have declared a variable in ABAP..Then i went to GOTO>Text Elements> Selection texts.
Then when i am selecting a date to have dictionary ref, then the text part is changed to "Date in Format YYYYMMSS in 8 C", then i can't customised it any more. But i want to display the text as "START DATE"..but while running. it's displaying "DATE" only.... How i can get rid of this situation?
Another problem : the limitations for th text in selection text is upto 33 charcaters by default..How can i change that so that i can accomodate as many characters i want.
Please help...I got stuck here for long time

Hi,
In the selection texts, don't use the check box to use the dictionary reference. So that you can declare your own text here.
If any text symbol is already declared and now if you want to increase the text, by default the maximum length is assigned.
So simply delete and insert the text symbol again. It will work.
For the selection texts, if you want to use more length, then use as below.
SELECTION-SCREEN BEGIN OF LINE.
PARAMETERS pc_check AS CHECKBOX.
SELECTION-SCREEN COMMENT 4(60) text-020.
SELECTION-SCREEN END OF LINE.
Here the text-020 will come in the selection screen for the above check box.

Pretty Printer ONLY for selected lines in ABAP editor?

I have done SETTINGS(Menu----Utilities) in PRETTY PRINTER in my ABAP editor that, all KEY WORDS shuld b in UPPER CASE.
Say, I hv written code(in raw format, not yet pressed the PRETTY PRITER) like below,
ABAP Code Line_1
ABAP Code Line_2
ABAP Code Line_3
ABAP Code Line_4
ABAP Code Line_5
I want to hv pretty printer format for Line 3 and Line 5 ONLY!! I do not want to hv it for other lines, so, I high lighted(selected) those lines (3 and 5) and pressed pretty printer, but, am getting the pretty printer format for all the rest of the code as a single shot!!
So, pls. let me know that, How I can get the pretty printer format ONLY for the lines, for which I wished(selected by high lighting)?
And also let me know, How Can I do automatic(not manually) indentation for my code as a part of pretty printer? Actually, I tried but, am not getting even though I checled the check box intendation in SETTINGS!!

Preety printer will work on all the code that is avaliable in window,
In case. if you want to do partial , copy your code in seperate window and do Pretty Printer for it.

After aborted rebuild in Mail: I can see and select the message in the center pane and when I click on it to display, I get "Loading" text, but nothing comes up

I have searched quite a bit to find a resolution to this problem, with no success. Any help would be appreciated.
I decided to rebuild my inboxes by following this advice: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11704. The rebuild took several hours and at 96% (4 minutes remaining apparently), the indexing froze (that is, after 8 hours, the message was still telling me "4 minutes left"). I forced quit mail, restored the previous Envelope files from the trash, and everything seemed fine.
However, since this failed attempt, I can see and select the message in the center pane and when I click on it to display, I get "Loading" text, but nothing comes up. All messages in my various inboxes have the reloading problem, EXCEPT messages that I downloaded since the aborted rebuild (in other words, there are about 40 messages that I downloaded since I tried the rebuild and I have no problem with these). The other 70,000 messages however wont load, even though I can see them in the centre pane and spotlight has no problem finding them and showing me their contents (when I hover the mouse over the message). When I click on the message in spotlight, mail opens and the loading problem re-occurs.
Since then, based on various suggestions I found for similar issues, I have used Disk Utility to verify and repair permissions and the drive. I used Onix to rebuild the Mail index (that only took about a minute - I am not sure how to interpret this when compared to the hours the rebuild took with Mail). No joy, I still have the same problem. I even restored one of my inboxes via Time Machine and the same issue with loading continues.
I am using ML 10.8.2. I have a combination of IMAP accounts (work) and POP accounts (personal). The issue of loading occurs irrespective of the account.
I am baffled and am now considering migrating to either Thunderbird or Postbox 3 to try and solve my problem. I prefer to stay with Mail. I should note also that I am using MailTags with Mail (http://www.indev.ca/MailTags.html), although I have not used any of the features. I upgraded to ML from SL about 2 weeks ago. It was very smooth and there appear to be no issues (not sure how helpful this is and probably not at all related to this issue).

Ah, I see -- thanks. Turns out that there's no difference in speed between texts.itemByRange(), characters.itemByRange(),and insertionPoints.itemByRange(). In a document with 170 pages of text, and with the cursor in the last paragraph, the second and third lines, below (and your function), give exactly the same result:
t = app.selection[0];
t.parentStory.texts.itemByRange (t.parentStory.insertionPoints[0], t).paragraphs.length;
t.parentStory.characters.itemByRange (t.parentStory.characters[0], t).paragraphs.length;

ABAP QUERY: Selection text name change : seq. of column sequence in output

1)I need to change the text of the selection field in ABAP QUERY REPORT
please help me. t code: SQ03 : User Group(zabc) and report name (zabc).
Environment -> infosets.
in the field group, double click field name to be changed. I tried to change it. The changed name is only reflecting in the list output, but not in the selection screen.
I want the text to be changed even in selection screen.
2)I want to change the position of the column ie end(last colum) to 8th column in the report output. Please help me.
Environment -> Queries -. I tried with 'Output sequence' and given no as '8'. But is not reflected and the column is still displayed at last column.

Can't get a text field to atuo populate based upon a dropdown selection

I have a drop down box with 3 values that can be selected:
Dropdown2 = 101-3 subd.A
                      101-3 subd.B
                      101-3 subd.C
I am trying to get a text field to auto populate based upon the selection:
if Dropdown2 = 101-3 subd.A then Text4 = "ValueA"
if Dropdown2 = 101-3 subd.B then Text4 = "ValueB"
if Dropdown2 = 101-3 subd.C then Text4 = "ValueC"
I have tried to create a custom calculation script for Text4:
var v= getfiled("Dropdown2").value;
if (v="101-3 subd.A") event.value = "ValueA";
     else if (v="101-3 subd.B") event.value = "ValueB";
     else if (v="101-3 subd.C") event.value = "ValueC";
     else event.value = " ";
I have entered this script and the syntax appears to be correct.(At least to Acrobat XI. I'm know programmer and have just enough knowledge to be dangerous). When I select a value in Dropdown2 nothing happens. No value appears in Text4. I have checked the "commit selected value immediately" in the option of Dropdown2 per some google'ing. I just can not understand why the values do not appear. Any help would be appreciated.

I made the changes and added the == to my if statements. When I select a value in Dropdown2, Nothing appears in Text4. I don't understand. Is there something else that I need to do beside event.value="Some Value";?
I know it has to be something simple that I am missing, but I just can't seem to see it.

Translating text symbols and selection texts in abap report

Hi All,
I have devolped a report and in that translation of selction texts and text symbols is required.
Problem: In abap text elements in the report i have gone for goto->translation->and then i have tried to translate by giving the target language as DE and changed all the texts but when i am tring to save it is showing a message that 'STILL 54 OF 54 TEXTS TO BE PROCESSED'.
Alternative solution :I have tried even using se63 and selected <rept> selection texts.
but still its showing the same error ('STILL 54 OF 54 TEXTS TO BE PROCESSED'.)
from se63.

I am using standard interface WDR_SELECT_OPTIONS.... i want to change the Selection text dynamically in my select options.I.E. if the select option is for VBELN field than i want to change its description SALES ORDER Number through Code to some other text.

Get the range table of your selection field as below
          data lt_range_table type ref to data.
          wd_this->m_handler->GET_RANGE_TABLE_OF_SEL_FIELD(
                    exporting
                    i_id = 'VBELN'
                    receiving
                    rt_range_table = lt_range_table ).
Update the selection field with new description - 'Your New Text'
          wd_this->m_handler->UPD_SELECTION_FIELD(
                    exporting
                         I_ID = 'VBELN'
                         I_DESCRIPTION = 'Your New text'
                         I_IS_AUTO_DESCRIPTION = abap_false
                         IT_RESULT = lt_range_table ).
You can also pass the other parameters as per your requirement

How to get the field texts from abap dictionary into screen Text fields

here i have got to modify one zscreen by adding 1 more field,when i added one field in teh screen by just writng the code in program as SELECT-OPTIONS ilart FOR CAUFVD-ILART.
but iam unable to get the field text for the text field from teh table CAUFVD.
CAN ANY BODY HELP ME IN THIS.

Hi Varma,
Even if you want to personalise the Text also you can do without checking the DICTREF checkbox. Dirctly you can give the text in the Text elements by using the Menu GOTO -> Text Elemetns -> Selection Texts.
