  • Java package concept in ABAP Objects

Hi, just a question on grouping of classes in ABAP Objects.
In Java, you can group classes by "package" to avoid
namespace collision, my question, in ABAP Objects, how
do you group classes to avoid namespace collision?
I know that there is package concept in SAP/ABAP but it
    is different concept in Java.
Thanks in advanced for your reply.

    Hello One and Lonley,
the package concept in ABAP and Java is quite different. In java the package name is part of the development object in ABAP not. So any class pool name is global unique. In combination with the restriction on 30 chars this leads often to somehow cryptic names.
The only way to escape this somehow is the excessive use of local classes. That mean classes defined within main programs. If you are on 7.00 you may check FuGr SAPLSAUNIT_TREE_CTRL_LISTENER for this technique.

  • Mapping preferences between ABAP, JAVA, XSLT...?

    Hi,
    How do i choose between,
    ABAP Mapping
    Java Mapping
    XSLT Mapping..?
    Any pointers welcome..
    --DJ

    HI,
JAVA Mapping :If you have complex mapping in your scenarios and also some times if you have more than 100 field tomap then better to choose the JAVA MApping.
XSLT Mapping : Simple and if you have large size of messages then choose this type of XSLT mapping.
ABAP Mapping : If your scenario is deals with ABAP / R3 related transactions , then choose ABAP Mapping ..
Performance wise XSLT ,JAVA, ABAP order..
Please see the below links , it may helps you

  • ESR Context Objects: using in ABAP or Java

    Hello, experts!
Is it possible to use (get values of) Context Objects assigned to Service Interface in ABAP or Java?
If it's possible, than how can we do that?
    BR,
    Vika

    Hello,
Is it possible to use (get values of) Context Objects assigned to Service Interface in ABAP or Java?
Context objects assigned to a service interface can't be retrieved via dynamic configuration hint: I tried it the hard way ;-). Not sure about ABAP, but the same could also be true. I think only the COs that came in with adapter metadata can be accessed(conf.get) and overwritten (conf.put).
    Corrections are welcome.
    Hope this helps,
    Mark

  • Performance of mappings (JAVA, XSLT, ABAP)

    Hello everybody,
I would like to know about the performance of mappings using different languages (JAVA, XSLT, ABAP).
Does anybody know which one will have the best performance?
    Thanks a lot.
    Regards Mario

    Hi Mario,
I thought i will start of from scratch. Mapping is basically done to convert one form of xml into another form. This can be done using either of them mentioned below.
    - Graphical mapping
    - XSLT mapping
    - JAVA mapping
    - ABAP mapping
There is no hard and fast rule for using the mapping techniques. But, I will try to put things in the right perspective for you.
Graphical Mapping is used for simple mapping cases. When, the logic for your mapping is simple and straight forward and it does not involve any complex logic.
Java and XSLT mapping are used when graphical mapping cannot help you.
When the choice is between Java and XSLT, XSLT is simpler than java mapping and easier. But, it has its drawbacks. One among them being that you cannot use Java APIs and Classes in it. There might be cases in your mapping when you will have to perform something like a properties file look up or a DB lookup, such scenarios are not possible in XSLT and so, when you want to use some specific Java API's you will have to go for Java Mapping.
Java Mapping uses 2 types of parsers. DOM and SAX. DOM is easier to use with lots of classes to help you create nodes and elements, but, DOM is very processor intensive.
SAX parser is something that parses your XML one after the other, and so is not processor intensive. But, it is not exactly easy to develop either.
To know more about each of them please go thru the following links. And if you ask me your which is better, it depends basically on the scenario you implementing and the complexity involved. Anyways please go thru the following links:

  • Calling inactive version of ABAP object from Java

    Hello,
When I call an ABAP object from Java Program which version of ABAP object is called inactive or active ?
Is there a mechanism to call the current inactive version or any other previous inactive /active versions ?
    Regards,
    Tarun

Only the "active" version of ABAP code is active and runnable.
You cannot run inactive versions. Like you have to compile a .java file to a .class file o make it runnable in the JVM.

  • Hook methods in ABAP Objects

    Hello,
i discovered that method calling in the class-inheritance of ABAP Objects doesn't work similar to other OO languages.
    Example:
    1 Superclass named "Z_CLASS"
    1 Subclass of "Z_CLASS" named "Z_SUB"
Z_CLASS defines a method "initialize" and has a constructor which calls "initialize".
Z_SUB redefines the method "initialize" assigning some values to instance-attributes.
If i instantiate a new "Z_SUB"-object then the contructor of "Z_CLASS" is called which calls ITS OWN "initialize" not the one of the subclass. For comparison: Java would call the initialize of the subclass.
I have to implement a constructor in every subclass of "Z_CLASS" which calls the super constructor and the own "initialize" after that to solve this problem. This isn't the proper OO way!
Did i miss something or am i right?
    Thanks in advance,

SAP Recommends the use of UML (Unified Modeling Language). They worked with Rational Software in order to provide an external modeling tool to supports SAP's class.

  • Meaning of factory method in abap objects

    Hi,
Can anybody help me in understanding the meaning of factory method in abap object? what is the importance of this?
    Regards
    Sudhansu

    Hi Krish and Sudhansu,
Design patterns are solutions which are already verified and known by many developers. That is why it is worth to use them. There is no need to reinvent the wheel in many cases.
I would recommend book which is placed in the ABAP world:
    http://www.sap-press.com/products/Design-Patterns-in-Object%252dOriented-ABAP-(2nd-Edition).html
Although Java language has intuitive syntax, there are some special things in ABAP development so it is better to check solutions adjusted for ABAP editor.
The most common usage of factory pattern is to simplify object creation.
    - By one method call you provide required parameters and do all initializations, including dependent objects.
    - Class can have many factory methods, if you want to provide more ways of initialization.
    - Factory method is usually static in the class and they return initialized instance of object for this class.
    - There is naming convention to start factory method name with "create" - easy to recognize pattern.
    - If you set property of class to "private instantiation" then you force to use factory method for object creation. In this way it is really simple to find all places where object are created with given set of input parameters - find references of factory method.
Factory pattern becomes even more powerful if we add inheritance. Factory method returns basic object (like ZCL_VEHICLE) but its implementation can return different subclass instance, depending on input parameter (ZCL_CAR, ZCL_TRAIN etc). Each instance can implement differently behavior (methods implementation), but these are object oriented techniques.

  • Throw statement equivalent in ABAP Objects

    Hi All,
I am trying to raise an exception and use a throw statement after catch inside try endtry in ABAP objects. Later i understood that there is no throw statement defined in ABAP objects. Could anyone help me out to understand the equivalent throw statement in ABAP and how to use in raise exception. I am pasting my code below for reference.
    try.
        CATCH Zxx_EXCEPTION into err.
         write:/ err->local_text.
        message err->LOCAL_TEXT type 'I'.
         if err->local_text = ZIF_XXXX~BUSOBJLOCKED.
          throw CX_AI_APPLICATION_FAULT.
    endtry.
    Thanks
    Deno

    Hello Deno
The TRY/CATCH logic of ABAP-OO is pretty much the same like in Java. Instead of throwing exception we have to raise them.
Method execute somewhere raise an exception of class zcx_myexception.
    method execute.
      if ( condition = abap_true ).
      else.
        RAISE EXCEPTION TYPE zcx_myexception
          EXPORTING

      call method go->execute( ).

    ENDTRY.
If the method that calls go->execute does not surround the method call by TRY/CATCH then it must define the exception class in its interface and, thereby, propagate the exception to the next higher level calling method.

  • Use of Boolean in Abap Object

    Gentlemans!!
I'm wondering if the boolean type data exists in Abap Object and if it used when we define methods.
I used to use it in C++ and Java and I still don't know if this it's used or even exists in Abap Objects.
    Thanks for your help.
    Regards,
    Polak.

    Hello,
The boolean type don't exist in ABAP.
In ABAP we used to refer to the type-pool ABAP where exists a type ABAP_BOOL (character length 1) where X = true and space = false. To refer to these values there are two constants: ABAP_TRUE and ABAP_FALSE.
To access the type-pool use the transaction SE11 select Type Group and enter ABAP.
