Abap Servlet vs J2EE Servlet and more...

Hi,
in short time we would like to start to use in production the new features of MI25 SP16 (pilot programme) like:
_ Abap Servlet instead of J2EE Servlet
_ MDI Setup Packages (Parameter Set, Device Configuration,
_ NWA
Someone already experimented these features ?
I would like to share impressions and experiences on them.
I'm not able to find any WEBLOG on these arguments.

( In the case of Synchronization, most of the time is utilizing for the XML conversion of data .The data from the MI server is passed to the MI client in particular format. Before sending this data to the MI client , that has to be converted into particular format .)

This is used for authorising the user during synchronization.
In each synchronization , using this SyncBo , the user credentials are fetched and compared against the users current installed applications. This will happen in each sychronizarion.
In a fresh MI server , we cannot see this SyncBO in the SyncBO builder.
After fresh installation , u have to explicitly import one request using merep_mig (Migration tool) transaction.
How to do it is explained in this forum..

u don't need j2ee and struts to do file uploading. An example is as such
in JSP. u use the <input> file tag like

WebDispatcher Scenario with MI25 SP18 and Abap Servlet

We use MI25 client in an Internet Scenario.
We use the webdispatcher to hide from the internet the real "truehostname:53500" of the middleware Web As 640.
In this way the end user syncronize their MI25 devices pointing the webdispatcher at "anotherhostame:80".
The Webdisp recive these call from the internet and forward them to the "truehostname:53500".
To do that it uses the ms/http_port= 8134 parameter into the into the profile.cfg.
THat in case of J2EE Servlet.
NOw we have to switch from J2EE Servlet to Abap Servlet, as the J2EE servlet will be dismitted soon, and because using the Setup Package it uses the Abap Servlet.
We need to know wich port have to be inserted in ms/http_port in order to the WebDispatcher to route to the 8035 port.
35 is the middleware system number
8035 is the port of the Abap Servlet where the MI25 should point in order to syncronize.
Any advise ?

I'm not sure what exactly you ned to know?
The ABAP Sync is embedded in the standard ABAP HTTP Service. (transaction SICF). When you now select in the Menu GOTO->Port Information you will get the info on which port the ABAP Sync runs on the WebAS. Now direct your Webdispatcher to this port.
When using the webdispatcher also check out the following note 974840.
It describes how to add webdispatcher info to your mobile components in order to be able to deploy them to devices out in the field (as the MCs are deployed via Http Download the download link needs also to be changed to the Webdispatcher).

Latest J2EE SDK and Servlets

Hi,
I downloaded the latest J2EE SDK and I wish to use it in Eclipse IDE.
Trying to compile a servlets (a my own one) a javax.servlet cannot be resolved to a type error occurs (shouldn't this package be part of the Sun AS provided within the SDK?).
Searching for it in the J2EE SDK installation directory I didn't found it.
Where it is? How I can compile servlets?

PS: Please, don't reply me that I didn't need the J2EE SDK to compile and run servlets because I know it.

That makes perfect sense and is quite normal.
Jar files are each individually treated as a directory containing a classpath entry, and will each have to be specified separately.
What you're expecting is similar to having every subdirectory containing within it the root of a class tree being recognised automatically by supplying a single higher level directory on the classpath.
Something like
classroots
|--project1
|           |--classes
|                    |--com
|-project2
              |-classes
                       |-comJust supplying "classroots" on your classpath will NOT cause project1/classes and project2/classes to be picked up as classpath entries (or shouldn't, there might be broken JVMs out there).

Servlet and j2ee

Hi all,
I am using the standard j2ee server and running the example of bookstore1 given in the j2ee tutorial. I have successfully deployed the application which is basically a bunch of servlets. When I try to access the page in the browser by giving the machine address and port number, I get http error "the requested resource not found" with http status 404. Similarly in the j2ee server error output, I get the following message
ERROR reading java.io.ByteArrayInputStream@9b774e
At Line 111 /web-app/error-page/
Can anybody please tell me where I am going wrong. I have deployed following the steps as given in the tutorial.

The problem may be u have given the wrong path for the .ear file. Also check u'r database is running and the tables are created. In my case, the table was not created in the database, but the j2ee server never threw exception and never displayed the error page. After the tables were created, the application is workin fine.

The solution to this query is posted as being use the
"Update and Deploy" option.
However when I choose "Update and Deploy" all I get is
a message stating that my .ear file is up to date.
Would appreciate if any other solutions are about as I
would like to resolve this error also.

Refresh code servlet and session bean don't work more.

Hi all,
I'm not sure if it's a problem with oc4j, but maybe someone can
help me.
I'm working with Jdev 10.1.3.0.4(SU4) on Fedora Core 5 and XP.
I create an application with a servlet, ran the servlet and
all things work. Change the code in servlet, recompile and refresh
the browser and all work fine.
But, when I create a CMP Entity Beans from Tables with EJB 3.0 on
a simple table and change the code in servlet, recompile and refresh
the browser the code of servlet stay old. Just restart oc4j make the changes
work. Changes on entity bean ou session beans or junit class take
the same problem, just after the restart oc4j do the job.
Is it a bug? Is thera a workaround?

Oh and before you tell me to just use XSLT on the output to get it how I want it, or use XMLType views where the XML is generated on the database server, I can assure you I know both of those options, but they both cut into the profitability of running a high-volume service.
The XSU (XML SQL Utility for those keyword searching) is great in that I can host it on middle tier servers in any servlet container and take the burden of XML generation and parsing off the $40K/processor server. If I can further take the burden of XSLT transformations off the middle tier, so much the better... The XSU allows me to run the same throughput on probably something like half the hardware and a tenth the licensing fees.
So here's a huge vote in favor of continued development of the XSU...I would also like it to handle XML attributes on inserts/updates rather than having to use the "canonical" element form.
If anyone knows an even better approach, please speak up!

Alright well looks like I'm stuck now.
This seems more like a PL\SQL question though. If I want to return 2 or more values do I use function or a procedure? here's the code I made:

If I pass paramters do which string do I use to prepareCall: "{ ? = CALL sign_in (?, ?) }" or do I use the "{ CALL sign_in (?, ?) }"
But my problem right now is how to make the proper stored procedure. I'd be very much obliged to anyone who can give a sample. Thank you all for your time!

Questions about Java Servlets and JSP

Hi,
I'm a confident Java Programmer (and really enjoy using this language) but am very new to Java servlets and Java Server Pages.
I have previously worked with Perl on my web projects (simple 'league' style voting pages). I read in my 'Core Java' book that I should no longer use perl or even cgi.
I need to know more about Java servlets and Java Server Pages so I can make the switch to a 'real' programming language.
I have a few questions:
How should I start to learn JS and JSP?
How applicable will the java knowlegdge I have already be?
Are JSP common on the world wide web?
What tools do I need to start? (I currently develop in JBuilder and have Java 1.4.1 Standard Edition)
Is it likey my web host (and others) will support JSP?

Ah, so you just want to add a servlet engine to IIS5?
Tomcat can be used as a plugin for IIS. Check out the Tomcat FAQs - somewhere in there you should find one relating to using Tomcat as an IIS plugin. They're far more comprehensive than I could ever hope to be on the matter!

InterMedia Java Classes for Servlets and JSPs and Netscape

I am using the interMedia Java Classes for Servlets and JSPs to upload and retrieve multimedia data. I have found that it is much more performant in Internet Explorer (5.5) than in Netscape Communicator (4.7). In fact, I cannot upload images larger than 10K at all using netscape. However, the same image can be uploaded into the same application using IE. Is this a known issue?

We have successfully uploaded multimedia data in the giga-byte range (Quicktime and AVI files) at the same speed with both the Netscape (4.7n) and MS IE (4.n and 5.n) browsers. One thing we have noticed is that its very important to set the manual proxy settings correctly if you have an environment with a proxy server. If you don't, then uploads can go via the proxy server and, for some reason, that seems to take considerably longer. For example, suppose you are in the www.xyzco.com domain and are connecting to a host named webserver.www.xyzco.com, then specify webserver and webserver.www.xyzco.com (to cover both cases) in the "Do not use proxy servers for..." box in the manual proxy server configuration screen. Also, if you're using a tool such as JDeveloper that uses the host IP address in the debugger environment, then you also need to add the numeric-based (nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn) IP address to this list.

Please state your problem that you are having more clearly so we can help.
I looked at your code I here are a few things you might consider:
It looks like you are putting freely typed-in comments from end-users into an xml document.
The problem with this is that the user may enter characters in his text that have special meaning
to xml and will have to be escaped correctly. Some of these characters are less than character, greater than character and ampersand character.
You may also have a similiar problem displaying them on your JSP page since there may be special characters that JSP has.
You will have to read up on how to deal with these special characters (I dont remember what the rules are). I seem to recall
if you use CDATA in your xml, you dont have to deal with those characters (I may be wrong).
When you finish writing your code, test it by entering all keyboard characters to make sure they are processed, stored in the database,
and re-displayed correctly.
Also, it looks like you are putting business logic in your JSP page (creating an xml file).
The JSP page is for displaying data ONLY and submitting back to a servlet. Put all your business logic in the servlet. Putting business logic in JSP is considered bad coding and will cause you many hours of headache trying to debug it. Also note: java scriptlets in a JSP page are only run when the JSP page is compiled into a servlet by java. It does not run after its compiled and therefore you cant call java functions after the JSP page is displayed to the client.

Servlets and Workspaces

I have a named workspace which is created at startup of the server
          within a starup class.
          When the startup method is called, I instantiate and put an object
          called FooObject in the workspace.
          Then, in a servlet, called Dispatcher, in the service method, I
          retrieved my named workspace and the object
          FooObject which is in this workspace. At this time, I have a
          ClassCastException.
          To give you more details about my configuration, here is my directory

Servlets and Workspaces (AND ClassCastExceptions)

          I have a similiar situation but am not getting a ClassCastException but rather a
          NullPointerException when I try
          to use a contained object in my stored object.
          I do this in the server:
          WorkspaceServicesDef workspaceServices = services.workspace();
          WorkspaceDef defaultWS = workspaceServices.getWorkspace();
          WorkspaceDef dataWS = defaultWS.getWorkspace("DATA_WORKSPACE",
          WorkspaceDef.CREATE,
          WorkspaceDef.SCOPE_SERVER);
          dataWS.store(cMSKey, ms);
          and this in the JSP page:

          WorkspaceDef defaultWS = t3.services.workspace().getWorkspace();

          1)Must I make the Object I want to store in the WorkSpace Serializable?? The
          Documentation says it can just be
          a Java Object??
          2) In my JSP page I get a good Object reference, but its contents are null
          (Probably because I didn't implement write() and read()).

Servlets and OC4J

Hi!
I need help. I'm working with OC4J 9.0.2.0.0a behind Apache. In my application a have to obtain data of DataBase and show it in a fdf. To do that i have done a class that obtains the data and a servlet that show it in a fdf using classes of Adobe. The Adobe jar's name is jFdfTk. The servlet runs ok at port 7777, but when i change to port 80 the fdf doesn't show data. I can't understand why.
Does anyone have the same problem??

I see now that I can use the old method of JNDI
lookup with the 3rd party messaging from a web
container, I just can't use the java:comp/resource/MQSeries logical JNDI location.
