About component overlapping

Hi guys..
I'm doing some overlapping to some components..based on research...i found out there maybe two ways to doing so....one is by using the JLayeredPane...another is using the setComponentZorder method...who can tell me which approach is better and efficiant...thanks...

There are problems when using Z-Order with some components. For examples when you use overlap JButtons you can get unexpected results. When you move the mouse over the overlapped button, the rollover code will cause the button to paint overtop all other buttons.
I had not tested this with a JLayeredPane so I'm not sure if you get the same effect or not.
Try playing with the demo code from the section in the Swing tutorial on "How to Use Layered Panes".

Component Overlapping

Can i have 1 component overlapping another in java with only 1 being on top always.
I want to place a Textbox on a Combo, both being similar in height but the width of the Combo being slightly more than the TextBox.
I want the TextBox to be on top forever , allowing the user to type text whenever he wants to do so.The down arrow of the combo should only be visible & thus the user should be allowed to associate some value with the textbox text.
In java usually the component having focus comes in front.Thus as soon as we move the focus on the combo the textbox goes behind & the combo comes in front.
Can i find a solution.I am using JDK 1.3
I don�t want this to happen.I feel there would be a method by which I can restrict this from happening.

i checked this link & didn't find anything relative.
As i said i have my code already in place & if i replace the component i cud face a prob. ...becoz
the change effects several files.......
Lets consider this again....
Suppose i have alibrary of books...
Let's say i have a textbox in place .I click on the lookup button placed next to it which displays all the books in the library.
From that i wud be selecting 1 record whose details i see
on the screen.Now i wud be wanting to give the user a criteria where he can see books within a particular date ..like if we wants to view books which have arrived in the past 1 month ..or likewise.
Now the aim is to achieve this without any code or component change.
I cud have had a combo directly placed next to the Textbox.It cud have values 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, 12 months...
displayed.The user wud select 1 value & click on the lookup & he wud be able to see relevant recodrs.
But i don't want to display the entire combo.Thus what i felt was that we cud have the textbox & combo ..
of the same ht...but differing in width. Now only the dropdown arrow of the combo wud be seen.
The user wud click on it & select 1 value.
When he wud click on the lookup he wud thus see the records for the selected no. of the days....
I made a small sample ..what i saw was that when i select a value from the combo...the textbox was moving behind it...i wanted to avoid this from happening....i have included quite a lot of content...sorry abt. taht...but that's coz i thought u were not very clear with my requirement.....i can't paste the diagram...how did u draw those lines the other day...i cud have used a picture......

Doubt about Component binding....

I have a doubt about component binding because I am also using component binding in my application, in my application each page has more than 20 components and each page is session scope, at one point I am getting message like perm space(this is because of lack of memory, actually I have 4gb ram). So my is
"does the jsf creates new object for every reload, because of that my jvm filling with all the objects?".
Another question is "what is the difference between value binding and component bindings?, and drawbacks of each other" please tell me the differences between them up to the very low level(up to memory usage for each approach).
Please clarify this doubt...........

JSF creates a component tree and stores it in the session. With component binding you can link between the backing bean and the component without the need for UIViewRoot#findComponent().
Think your problem lies somewhere else. Use a profiler.

Useful if you want to do a bit more than only holding the component's value, with which you usually do with the value binding.

Newbie question about component and UDF usage.

This will be the 1st time I'm coding a component and UDF. I
kind of understand the concept but not sure about how to write it
in detail.Such as passing the parameter, etc.
I'm starting to write a user login, verifying users before

What can I do about tabs overlapping each other?

Like anyone else who uses TVTropes and/or Wikipedia, my web browsing experience can get to the point where I have a lot of tabs open. Like 30+. I have Tab Mix Plus set so that tabs condense themselves to fit the tab bar, but ever since Australis hit, the tabs overlap when this happens. Aside from this making it really difficult to select the correct tabe, generally what's covered up is the tab close button, so this is a SUPER annoyance. I had installed 24ESR but now that it's updated I guess I have no choice but to fix this or go to Pale Moon :|
What can be done here? I have Classic Theme Restorer set to the old tab style, and STILL this happens. I don't want to have to deal with tab scrolling.

REGEX: question about finding Overlapping matches using regular expressions

I have the following problem.
Say for my pattern I use:
Pattern pattern = Pattern.compile("AAA");
Matcher matcher = pattern.matcher("AAAAAA");when I run a loop
while (matcher.find())
System.out.println("Match Found: "+matcher.start()+" "+matcher.end());I get 2 Hits shown in the following output:
Match Found: 0 3
Match Found: 3 6
therefore the regex is seeing the first AAA then the second AAA.
I want it to find the other AAA's in there that are overlapping the other two finds i.e. I want the output to find
AAA from 0 to 3
AAA from 1 to 4
AAA from 2 to 5 and finally
AAA from 3 to 6
thereby including the overlapping finds.
How can I do this using regex? what am I missing that prevents the overlapping matches to be found? Do I need a quantifier?

Overlapping with html component

Hi,
Html component overlaps dropdown menu bar i.e when pdf is opened with in html componenet
I have a problem with html component in flex...
I have 12 drop down menus on top of the page...
On click of item in dropdown the corressponding file opens in html component....
There is no problem if its html file file....
But if pdf opens in html component the dropdown menu goes behind the pdf file....
i.e pdf file in html component overlaps drop down menus...
Pls let me know how we can overcum this.....

I never did find a solution for this. The Reader just doesn't support it. What I ended up doing back then was to use ColdFusion's CFPDF tag to automatically convert each page in the PDF to an png, then do the touch gestures on the pngs.

Overlapping components problem

Hello,
I have been developing an applet for Quickplaces. Basically it shows what is happening in the Quickplace from different kind of views. A view from a document where people can see who has been viewing it for example. Or a view from a member where one can see what documents the member wrote.
Now I have chosen to implement a sort of circle visualisation for this. In the center is the object the view is about, a document, a member, etc. Outwards are other objects. In the case of a document view, the members that responded to it, in a circle more outward: members that viewed it. Etc. It's sort of a dartboard.
I have written a custom layoutmanager for each view for this. A problem I have encountered is that once I tell a member or document component to let itself be placed by the layout managerr I get a fixed size component. It looks ok until you for example hover over it, wich I have keyed to a zooming in on details method. When you do that your usually overlapping other components. Why, components can be overlapped without zooming in some views. The problem is the mouselistener I have attached fires when I hover over de component size. Not the size of the actual graphical representation. My members for example are represented by a sphere. They are bounded by a rectangle component though. So if I enter my mouse anywhere near the sphere... it already zooms in, resulting in the user zooming in on a member, but actually he wanted to zoom in on a member that was close to this one, but for the code was "underneath" the component of the other member.
It's a bit hard to explain without posting a screenshot.
How do I fix this?

First you want to zoom only when the mouse is hovered
on the sphere. Is that right ?Yes I have implemented the enters part of the mouselistener. As soon as the mouse enters the component in wich the graphical representation is drawn it zooms. with zoom I multiply the size by some and add some different graphs inside the circle, but that is not important. What is interesting is probably that the size of the component when it is not zoomed is the size for when it is zoomed in, or the zoom in would be cut off by the component boundaries.
What about the overlapping ? could you clarify a bit

Basically it overlaps nicely on the view. Once you interact though I get stuck. Clicking, entering and exiting is supposed to do things. But all these 3 fire when your mouse does that thing inside the component, not inside the graphical representation. So you start zooming quite a bit away from the circle of a member btw, because that distance is already part of the component, but not of the drawing.
Who is reponsible for drawing the shapes ?The Viewers paint themselves. The Layoutmanager gives them a basic place to start their own painting and a View class controls the layoutmanager.
And who listens to mouse motion ?The viewers themselves do. They implement mouseListener.
in mouseMoved(MouseEvent e)
you can get the point with e.getPoint(); where the
mouse points to.
This will help you to handle the event only when
hovered on the shape,
but it will maybe not solve the hovering over
overlapped components.I don't quite follow that. A Shape can still not implement MouseListener.

Intel iMac Component Video Out

Has anyone tried a component video out connection to an HDTV from the Intel iMac? I've read from the ATI website that the new Radeon X1600 card supports component video out with an adapter.
There was never a really good way to do this with previous Mac models.

A little more news about component out from the Intel iMac 20"
The VGA adapter included with my 12" iBook does not fit the mini-dvi port on the iMac. So you need to buy a new adapter from Apple.
Also:
I tried using a VGA-to-component cable with the iBook VGA adapter and a standard television set. The cable is designed to interface a component-out DVD player to a VGA-in BenQ projector. I ran the cable to the component-in jacks on my Sanyo (analog-non HD) television. No go. Tried several resolutions and adapter refresh rates, and got some smeared video, but it made me nervous and I stopped experimenting. Haven't tried this cable with my HDTV for fear of damage.
Basically, the cable was meant to take a video signal from the DVD player to the projector. My experiment was mac to TV.
So sad, oh so sad ;<

Is it possible to get component associated with DefaultListSelectionEvent?

Is it possible to get component associated with DefaultListSelectionEvent, please?
There are multiple tables in my window. All tables (must!) have same TableSelectionListener. Problem is that there's no information about component in default list selection model implementation. When fireing events DefaultListSelectionModel use self as event source (see DefaultListSelectionModel.fireValueChanged fragment below).
e = new ListSelectionEvent(this, firstIndex, lastIndex, isAdjusting);Any ideas how to get component in ListSelectionListener.valueChanged, please? But don't forget that as a programer, i am the lazy. Thus implementing new selection model is not an acceptable solution, but class extension is :p
One idea is to remember models component in constructor and override DefaultListSelectionModel.fireValueChanged like this:

Adding Parameters (Inspectable) to a Custom Component?

How to find the ABAP Webdynpro Component Name in the Portal IView(WDA)

Hi All
I got one ABAP Webdynpro IView in portal , when i opened the Iview i got the Application name of ABAP Webdynpro in the properties of the Iview but i could not able to find the component name .
Please let me know how to find the component name of WDA , as i already got the Application name of component from Iview i.e WDA_ED_RDF ( this is applicaiton name found in the portal Iview for ABAP Webdynpro)

Right Click on any UI Element in Portal->Go to more field help->TEchical Information. You can see all the information about component, application, ui elements etc.

in my AIR application, I use an HTML Component in its own
sort of frame or container that has a viewing size that is smaller
than the web page itself. Next to it is a panel with many controls
in it. When a website with flash components (e.g. flash banners) is
displayed, the flash components in the HTML Component overlap the
control panel even though it's underneath in another container. Is
there a way to disable showing Flash in an HTML Component or
another way to make sure everything in an HTML Component stays on
its own layer?

I don't think the problem is because the URL is pointing to a
JSP. I think the problem might be with the JavaScript which is
trying to do operations which are not allowed. Please find more
