  • Some problems about database connection

I am working on oracle9i. The problem is that I have to specify the "host string" in the login window of SQL*PLUS to connect to database (I can't use the command-line GUI). But I don't know how to specify "Host String" in JDBC connection string and SQL*Loader.
    Can anybody help me?

Chen, please state specifically where you are trying to run each of these application from and where the database is.
Since you mentioned a SQLPlus window then it sounds like you are running from a client PC to a remote Oracle installation. If this is true you normally use the connect string alias set up in the local tnsnames.ora file to connect to the remote db. You set this up as part of the client install or using the Net Configuration Assistent or some shops provide one common file on the network referenced by the TNS_ADMIN OS environment variable.
For batch or command line usage
    sqlldr userid@service_name
    sqlplus userid@servie_name

  • A problem about database connection

What's the advantages and disadvantages of create each JDBC connection in the jspInit ( ) and close it in jspDestroy ( ) for every JSP script compare with from the connection pool.

The container calls the jspInit() to initialize te servlet instance.
and is called only once for a servlet instance.
so if we are opening JDBC conection in JspInit(), we will get only one connection.
for the subsequent requests we have to use this single connection, results in starvation.
where as in the case of connection pool ,we will get a pool of connections when the container starts
we can make use of any of these available connections when we receive multiple requests. You can, normally, have multiple statements on the same connection, and since a JSP should only be reading (never updating) there won't be any (what I like to call) "commit cross-overs", so this is not "in principal" a problem.
It would not, however, be ultimately practical. And the practice (a single connection per Servlet/Jsp) is still not one I would reccommend, for any reason.

Nothing is urgent on a forum of volunteers .....
I'm not familiar with coding to Oracle in VB, but I'd guess the datasource would either be a DSN defined to your ODBC, or else the same tnsnames service name you used when you connected with SQL*Plus.
Why are you using the SYSTEM account? That's generally Not A Good Thing for normal application work.

  • Query about multiple connection pools under one database

    Hi,
I have s query about connection pool, now we have a requirement,
we have two schemas in one db, some data store in one schema, some in another schema,
all tables are the same, but data is different, we want to retrive all data under two schemas,
so we need two connection pools under one database,
I have set two system DSN, and each connection pool was mapping to one DSN,
but after I importing tables into RPD, when I view data, there is a dialog let me select connection pool. so If this, when we drag columns in answer, it will definitely get wrong.
so how to realize this function about multiple connection pools under one database and we can get data normally.

    Hi,
    Try this step
1)Better to create two different DSN for the same database with different user id and password
2)now create multiple connection pool in the same database in u r RPD physical layer .

  • Questions about the database connection

    hi all,
I am developing a project with JDeveloper 10g and I created a database connection to my Oracle RAC database.
However, whenever I start the project with the JDeveloper and I do a "netstat -an" with the command prompt window. I show there are over 100 connection ESTABLISHED to my database. I don't have any idea how this happens. The problem is since there are over 100 connection established, I couldn't run the project with the JDeveloper's embedded OC4J.
Can anyone help me to fix this problem?

I have set the Max connections to 30 in the connection-pool setting of my project in the Embedded OC4J Server Preferences, but it doesn't work.
There are still over 100 connections to the database...

  • Deploy form, question about database object or connection parameters

When form to be deployed to the dev/test/production environment, should it be compiled with that specific database connection username, password and sid? Another words, when I compile the database objects created for the compile is embedded in the .fmx file?
    thanks for help

You won't need to compile your forms if the passwords of the target schema differs. It also doesn't matter on what platform/architecture the database server runs on. However it would matter how you created your schema objects. And of course it will matter if the platform your forms run on differ. The list of "what you need to do when you don't want to compile against the target database" is a long one.
Here is a short list of don'ts
    - no +select * from [...]+ views
    - no +select * from [...]+ in forms cursors and the like
    - %TYPE is evil
    - %ROWTYPE is much more evil
Those are just a few obvious things developers can mess up. Of course we all know that this sort of things are bad programming practice but they do happen. And as said: that's just the most obvious things. I work for a vendor where only the compiled files are shipped to the customer, and the road to this goal is a hard and bumpy one. If you don't want bad surprises in production I suggest you implement a fixed build process routine and a fixed upgrade process where you can ensure that the target database where the forms run against match exactly the development database you compile your forms from a logical point of view. The far easier exit is to just compile your forms on the target platform against the target database but I understand that this is not always possible.
    cheers

  • Creating new Data Source Error - Database connection Failed

Successfully installed and configured 11.1.1.3.0. Planning and Essbase dev.
Went to Workspace > Administer > Classing Planning Administration > Manage Data Sources > Create Data Source.
Entered all info about the application database , etc. Getting error "The database connection failed" (I was able to connect with no problem during the install)
SQL server 2005 is on the same physical server.
The diagnostic tool shows database connection passed for planning. A new database was created for the new application.
The server event viewer shows these errors.
"Login failed for user 'xxx-hyperion'. The user is not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection."
Group Policy Error "The client-side extension could not apply computer policy settings for 'Default Domain Policy {xxx}' because it failed with error code '0x80070003 The system cannot find the path specified.' See trace file for more details. "
The Group Policy client-side extension Group Policy Services failed to execute. Please look for any errors reported earlier by that extension.
    Any help is appreciated.

    Datasource for the application.
I have created a sql db for this planning application (my datasource). See my first message for more details.
When you create a new planning application, you need to associate it with a data source. Since this is a new install, I don't have any data sources available yet.
So, "To create, edit or delete data sources, click Manage Data Source."
This page lets you validate your connection to the database and essbase server. My essbase server connection validates! The database connection does not validate after I enter all the relevant information.

  • Unable to open database connection after applicaiton is running for several days.

Has anyone experienced a similar error to this:
After about 3 days of use our application starts to report errors opening
the database connection. By that time we've had thousands of transactions
happen. Oracle is only showing a few open connections to our iAS host so
the error seems to indicate the connection pool. I'm configured for 64
connections (the default). We are using the Oracle native driver on iAS
    SP3, Solaris.
The iAS ksvradmin monitor gives errors when trying to see how many open
connections it has (verified bug in SP3), so I can't get any info from iAS
    on the connection pool.

iAS6 SP3 and earlier cannot detect dead connections. If connections become
stale, iAS does not detect this and will hand out these stale connections.
I don't know enough about your problem, but you can check for this.
    hope this helps,

  • Regarding web analysis database connections

    Hi All,

Does any one have idea about how to change database properties for a report.
