About the jdbc???

hi,
i just want to do the jdbc of oracle 9i database and jdk1.3, i know i need the thin driver.
but the question is that should i need the oracle client installed in my computer as well....

hi abramia,
thanks your reply, and i have another Q that is i already install the oracle9i database and jdk1.3.1 and the thin driver, and when i test the connection, it shows the error below
why?? i already trun on the listener.
C:\CODE-JDBC\ORACLE\TEST-CONNECT>java JdbcTest
java.sql.SQLException: Io exception: The Network Adapter could not establish the connection
C:\CODE-JDBC\ORACLE\TEST-CONNECT>
and the code is here

• Fuzzy about the JDBC Vendor implementation

I was confused about the logic behind in Making the connection object. The implementation is provided by the vendor. Can any one please explain the process on how the entire connection object works and the call back methods works on the Driver's implementation.
Is RMI, IIOP, Corba any of these technologies are behind this? Seriously don't know!
I tried to google, yahoo... etc... but all provide info on how to implement the JDBC through the coding. I need to know how the url is parsed/passed over the network and therein the queries and again how it identifies the client from where the query was invoked? Is there an one to one communication channel established between the client and the server? No answers!!!!
Can anyone please help me out from this fuzzy question (May be the question is silly), but i'm interested in knowing the way the communication between Java and the DB server implementation.

Definitely Socket and TCP\IP protocol would be used, Likely yes for type 4.
But I'm also thinking that definitely the RMI and CORBA concepts would also be used while communicating from client to db server.No. I mean it is possible but I have never seen it. The server would have to support Java natively for it to work as a type 4 driver.
You might find such a thing in a type 3 driver.
I would like to know how the flow of the messages/objects occur in the network. But why?
Anyway. If you want to know there are plenty of open source JDBC drivers. Open one up an look for yourself. MySQL and the JTDS driver come to mind. Both of these use plain java.net.Sockets and then speak the protocol that is native to the database. So the MySQL protocol, or the TDS protocol.
I still don't know why you are asking this question, if you are having a problem or just want to know. If you are having a problem you should tell us what it is. If you just want to know better to look for yourself at the source I would say.

Hello everyone,

For the record, Oracle 8.0.4 is no longer supported. The earliest version supported is now 8.1.7.
Not that this is the problem that you are seeing.
Can you use dbping to test if you can connect to the database?

• Worry about the JDBC Receiver process behavior

Hi, All.
I meet this situation. Use JDBC receiver to select datas from DB2 and after that update these datas which just were selected with a read mark. I use two statements, one is select, another is update.
What if when between the selecting and the updating, another transaction inserts datas into the table. Is this situation leads to a difference in the operation set of datas between selecting and updating. If this problem really exists, is there any method to solve it.
Looking forward to your guys ideas.

Hi,
I agree JDBC receiver adapter has the same options too, but, you need to understand that this Transaction Handling will be for only one STEP of the BPM.
If you are going to Select and Update the Database using a single Message ( making one single call with multiple STATEMENT level tags each for Select and Update ), then transaction handling will work.
But, if you are going to select data from the DB using a Send Synch Step in the BPM and then again in a SEPARATE step update the datatabase, then the transaction handling will not help.
Hope this clears ,
Regards,

Hi,
It depends on your JDBC Drivers features support for your transactions, check the features of JDBC Drivers you installed on to
Adapter Engine, If you doesn't check this option also it will committ, if drivers had transaction handling features.
based on the features of drivers it will rollback the inserted records or otherwise it will committ for the inserted records.

• Re: [iPlanet-JATO] Re: Use Of models in utility classes - Pease don't forget about the regular expression potential

Namburi,
When you said you used the Reg Exp tool, did you use it only as
preconfigured by the iMT migrate application wizard?
Because the default configuration of the regular expression tool will only
target the files in your ND project directories. If you wish to target
classes outside of the normal directory scope, you have to either modify the
"Source Directory" property OR create another instance of the regular
expression tool. See the "Tool" menu in the iMT to create additional tool
instances which can each be configured to target different sets of files
using different sets of rules.
Usually, I utilize 3 different sets of rules files on a given migration:
spider2jato.xml
these are the generic conversion rules (but includes the optimized rules for
ViewBean and Model based code, i.e. these rules do not utilize the
RequestManager since it is not needed for code running inside the ViewBean
or Model classes)
I run these rules against all files.
See the file download section of this forum for periodic updates to these
rules.
nonProjectFileRules.xml
these include rules that add the necessary
RequestManager.getRequestContext(). etc prefixes to many of the common
calls.
I run these rules against user module and any other classes that do not are
not ModuleServlet, ContainerView, or Model classes.
appXRules.xml
these rules include application specific changes that I discover while
working on the project. A common thing here is changing import statements
(since the migration tool moves ND project code into different jato
packaging structure, you sometime need to adjust imports in non-project
classes that previously imported ND project specific packages)
So you see, you are not limited to one set of rules at all. Just be careful
to keep track of your backups (the regexp tool provides several options in
its Expert Properties related to back up strategies).

Please bear in mind that this statement is not totally correct:
Since the migration tool does not do much of conversion for
these
utilities we have to do manually.Remember, the iMT is a SUITE of tools. There is the extractiontool, and
the translation tool, and the regular expression tool, and severalother
smaller tools (like the jar and compilation tools). It is correctto state
that the extraction and translation tools only significantlyconvert the
primary ND project objects (the pages, the data objects, and theproject
classes). The extraction and translation tools do minimumtranslation of the
User Module objects (i.e. they repackage the user module classes inthe new
jato module packages). It is correct that for all other utilityclasses
which are not formally part of the ND project, the extraction and
translation tools do not perform any migration.
However, the regular expression tool can "migrate" any arbitrary
file
(utility classes etc) to the degree that the regular expressionrules
correlate to the code present in the arbitrary file. So first andforemost,
if you have alot of spider code in your non-project classes youshould
consider using the regular expression tool and if warranted adding
additional rules to reduce the amount of manual adjustments thatneed to be
made. I can stress this enough. We can even help you write theregular
expression rules if you simply identify the code pattern you wish to
convert. Just because there is not already a regular expressionrule to
match your need does not mean it can't be written. We have notnearly
exhausted the possibilities.
For example if you say, we need to convert
CSpider.getDataObject("X");
To
RequestManager.getRequestContext().getModelManager().getModel(XModel.class);
Maybe we or somebody else in the list can help write that regularexpression if it has not already been written. For instance in thelast
updated spider2jato.xml file there is already aCSpider.getCommonPage("X")
rule:

<mapping-rule>
<mapping-rule-primarymatch>
CSpider[.\s]*getPage[\s]*\(\"([^"]*)\"
</mapping-rule-primarymatch>
<mapping-rule-replacement>
<mapping-rule-match>
CSpider[.\s]*getPage[\s]*\(\"([^"]*)\"
</mapping-rule-match>
<mapping-rule-substitute>
getViewBean($1ViewBean.class
</mapping-rule-substitute>
</mapping-rule-replacement>
</mapping-rule>
Following this example a getDataObject to getModel would look
like this:
<mapping-rule>
<mapping-rule-primarymatch>
CSpider[.\s]*getDataObject[\s]*\(\"([^"]*)\"
</mapping-rule-primarymatch>
<mapping-rule-replacement>
<mapping-rule-match>
CSpider[.\s]*getDataObject[\s]*\(\"([^"]*)\"
</mapping-rule-match>
<mapping-rule-substitute>
getModel($1Model.class
</mapping-rule-substitute>
</mapping-rule-replacement>
</mapping-rule>
In fact, one migration developer already wrote that rule andsubmitted it
for inclusion in the basic set. I will post another upgrade to thebasic
regular expression rule set, look for a "file uploaded" posting.Also,
please consider contributing any additional generic rules that youhave
written for inclusion in the basic set.
Please not, that in some cases (Utility classes in particular)
the rule
application may be more effective as TWO sequention rules ratherthan one
monolithic rule. Again using the example above, it will convert
CSpider.getDataObject("Foo");
To
getModel(FooModel.class);
Now that is the most effective conversion for that code if that
code is in
a page or data object class file. But if that code is in a Utilityclass you
really want:
>
RequestManager.getRequestContext().getModelManager().getModel(FooModel.class
So to go from
getModel(FooModel.class);
To
RequestManager.getRequestContext().getModelManager().getModel(FooModel.class
You would apply a second rule AND you would ONLY run this rule
against
your utility classes so that you would not otherwise affect yourViewBean
and Model classes which are completely fine with the simplegetModel call.
<mapping-rule>
<mapping-rule-primarymatch>
getModel\(
</mapping-rule-primarymatch>
<mapping-rule-replacement>
<mapping-rule-match>
getModel\(
</mapping-rule-match>

RequestManager.getRequestContext().getModelManager().getModel(
</mapping-rule-substitute>
</mapping-rule-replacement>
</mapping-rule>
A similer rule can be applied to getSession and other CSpider APIcalls.
For instance here is the rule for converting getSession calls toleverage
the RequestManager.
<mapping-rule>
<mapping-rule-primarymatch>

the
details
on various tactics of migrating these type of utilities.
Essentially,
you
either need to convert these utilities to Models themselves or
keep the
utilities as is and simply use the
RequestManager.getRequestContext.getModelManager().getModel()
to statically access Models.
For CSpSelect.executeImmediate() I have an example of customhelper
method
as a replacement whicch uses JDBC results instead of
CSpDBResult.

Hi All,
In the present ND project we have lots of utility classes.
These
classes in diffrent directory. Not part of nd pages.
In these classes we access the dataobjects and do themanipulations.
So we access dataobjects directly like
CSpider.getDataObject("do....");
and then execute it.
Since the migration tool does not do much of conversion forthese

My question is Can we access the the models in the postmigration
sameway or do we need requestContext?
We have lots of utility classes which are DataObjectintensive. Can
someone suggest a better way to migrate this kind of code.
Thanks

Namburi,
I will post a document to the group site this evening which has
the
details
on various tactics of migrating these type of utilities.
Essentially,
you
either need to convert these utilities to Models themselves or
keep the
utilities as is and simply use the
RequestManager.getRequestContext.getModelManager().getModel()
to statically access Models.
For CSpSelect.executeImmediate() I have an example of customhelper
method
as a replacement whicch uses JDBC results instead of
CSpDBResult.

Subject: [iPlanet-JATO] Use Of models in utility classes
Hi All,
In the present ND project we have lots of utility classes.
These
classes in diffrent directory. Not part of nd pages.
In these classes we access the dataobjects and do themanipulations.
So we access dataobjects directly like
CSpider.getDataObject("do....");
and then execute it.
Since the migration tool does not do much of conversion forthese
utilities we have to do manually.
My question is Can we access the the models in the postmigration
sameway or do we need requestContext?
We have lots of utility classes which are DataObjectintensive. Can
someone suggest a better way to migrate this kind of code.
Thanks
Namburi

• A problem about the policy of RMS which is added more than 500 principals

Hello specialists ,
I've a question about RMS , when I added more than about 500 principals (users & groups ) into a policy in the RMS , it will report an error for any operation about the policy , and I find the error message as followed (for theconvenience, I paste all of the logs in the weblogic).
We have tested all of our environments : Weblogic , JBoss , Websphere , each of them makes the same mistake . those operations include : try to open the documents protected by this kind of policies , to disable or enable the policies, to look the detail from the "adminui" . when decreasing the principals for this kind of policy to almost 450 (I am not sure the clearly number) with java code , the results will be ok .
So anyone can help me ? It's really very important for us , becuase our customer refused to pay the left money of this project till this problem is resolved . and I have reported this problem to the Enterprise Support in Indian (the case is :181916446), but , obviously , it seems they are burning my patience . At the same time , I think it's a problem of the product , I think the SQL is really very bad ,at least , not so good .
Any help will be very appreciated !

• How do you install the JDBC-OCI patch for a Windows NT4 IFS Installation?

I am about to install IFS on a Windows NT4 Server. I dont understand the instructions for installing the JDBC-OCI patch.
How do you install the JDBC-OCI drivers?
Do I install them after installing Oracle 8.1.6? and before installing IFS?
Is it necessary to install them?
I would be grateful for as much help as possible, I have never done anything like this before.

• In the rwb adapter monitoring the JDBC Adapter always grey

Hi all
I try to use JDBC Adapter in XI 3.0 sp14.
First I deploy the MS SqlServer JDBC by SDM RemoteGui.I can see the deployed JDBC package in \j2ee\cluster\server0\bin\ext\com.sap.aii.af.jmsproviderlib.
Then I create a communication Channel using JDBC 2.0 in a Business System and active the configuration.
But when I monitor JDBC Adapter in the rwb, I find the JDBC Adapter is always grey.In the \server0\log\services\com.sap.aii.adapter.jdbc.svc, no log shows the jdbc adapter is initial.
So what extended configuration shall i do.
Thanks in advanced

hi Alessandro,ravi:
Thanks for your reply. I will describe detail.
I use a file adapter as a sender and use a JDBC adapter as a receiver.
In the sxmb_moni I find the processed message status is successful.
So I think the integration server works fine.
In the message monitoring, the message is waiting status.
If I change the receiver adapter to file adapter.
It works fine.So I think the process config is fine and the itegration server works fine. the error is in the receiver JDBC adapter side.
I check the default trace, there is error logs:

Parikshit KhannaThere is a jdbc DatabaseMetaData call getDriverVersion().
The best thing to do is to download Oracle's latest appropriate
driver from their site, and edit the start-weblogic script to
make sure the downloaded driver is ahead of any weblogic stuff in
the server's classpath. We do ship a driver, but Oracle usually
has a newer better one very soon after that...

• Does the JDBC driver need to changin when moving Oracle 9i to Oracle 11g??

Hi All,
I have two cases
Case 1:
Application is deployed on WebLogic 10 (JDK 5) and connects to Oracle 9i database using the thin driver. Now the database is now moving from ORacle 9i to Oracle 11g. I have the following question:
1. Does the driver jar file and/or driver class need to be changed on the connection pool front?
2. If yes then, do we need to change any of the jdbc coding to ensure compatibility?
Case 2:
Application is deployed on WebLogic 8.1 (JDK 1.4) and connects to Oracle 10g database using the thin driver. Now the database is now moving from ORacle 10g to Oracle 11g and application is moving to WebLogic 10. I have the following question:
1. Does the driver jar file and/or driver class need to be changed on the connection pool front?
2. If yes then, do we need to change any of the jdbc coding to ensure compatibility?
Additioanlly, are there any other factors that I need to consider when upgrading these applications. Does any one have checklists?
Any help will be really helpful.
Thank you

1. Does the driver jar file and/or driver class need to be changed on the connection pool front?Advised to do so (bugfixes, possible performance optimisations), not required unless you want to use functionality the 9i driver doesn't support.
2. If yes then, do we need to change any of the jdbc coding to ensure compatibility?
Not unless you want to use things not supported by the old driver.
It is however a very good idea to at least update the name of the driver class, as the name used for the 9i driver has been deprecated (it's still allowed, but now leads to another method call which is a waste of CPU time).
Case 2:

2. If yes then, do we need to change any of the jdbc coding to ensure compatibility?
See above (except for the driver class name which you should have used the new name already had the application been written to make use of the new name which was introduced in 10g).
Additioanlly, are there any other factors that I need to consider when upgrading these applications. Does any one have checklists?
You should always do a full regression test of your entire platform when attempting a migration like this.
Worst example of what can go wrong I ever encountered was an application where an upgrade of the database server it ran on led to a bugged batch job that for 5 years had (unnoticed to anyone) never completed because it always entered a timeout causing a rollback now suddenly no longer timing out and inserting 10k records of corrupt data every time it was run (where what it should insert were maybe a few dozen records of actual data at most).
The database engine upgrade had not been announced to the dev team, the team responsible for it didn't do regression tests (as application testing is the responsibility of the dev team), the sys admins who should make full backups at upgrade moments (so we could roll back to the previous release if something went wrong) made no backup because it was no application upgrade, and now one of the core applications for several dozen offices was fundamentally broken.
Technical lead for the application was literally on the other side of the world on a vacation, functional lead had left the company, the entire dev team consisted of me as a contractor brought in just 2 weeks prior and a new functional lead who'd arrived at about the same time, we were both still trying to get to know the system.
Potential financial loss: millions a week if it wasn't fixed quick.
That's the nightmare scenario from hell of course, where everything that could go wrong did go wrong all at the same time.

• Performance issue about using JDBC?

Since no one reply me, I post again. :(
I just got a big performance problem lately, and I tried all the possible ways, still can't fix it. Could you help me out or give me more suggestions?
Oracle 8i for Solaris 2.6
A web application with back end is Oracle database, developed by Java, use JDBC driver. It also uses Servelet. Report generated in browser is using dynamic SQL.
When I click some link to generate report in browser, it will run the corresponding SQL script, then return the result to browser. The problem is it takes long long time to get the result. For simple query, it takes around 2-3 minutes. But if I run the same SQL script in
SQL*Plus, it only takes 4-5 seconds, or even less. So I think the index for this query is fine. (I also rebuild all indices, some result.) And all the hit ratios in SGA are also OK. When browser generate reports, I didn't see high CPU usage or I/O activity.
I really have no idea why this happens. But I think the Oracle DB is fine, 'cause query is run normally in SQL*Plus. The problem may related to the JDBC driver or JDBC connection. The developers also have no clue about this. When the Java app run the query, does it use the same way to access the tables and indexes as used in SQL*Plus?
Any idea or suggestions?
Thanks a lot and have a good day!

Currently it runs timeout ,as the l_lines is very very large.
I think maybe we can change the package size. But what's the best package size for performance?

• Confused about the role of ejbc in Weblogic 7

Howdy All
Here is my understanding of the role of ejbc in Weblogic 7:
* Let's assume I have a JAR containing an EJB (let's say a stateless session bean).
Let's call this the no-ejbc-JAR.
1. I run the no-ejbc-JAR through ejbc to create the container-ejbc-JAR which can
now be deployed in Weblogic.
2. I can run ejbc against the no-ejbc-JAR to create a client-ejbc-JAR for use
by clients wishing to access and use the EJB.
Questions...
MUST I run the no-ejbc-JAR through ejbc (to create the container-ejbc-JAR) before
it can be deployed in Weblogic 7?
If so, why?
I can sort of see why this may be necessary from the containers perspective, although
I would have thought the ejbc process could have been automatically applied by
Weblogic to no-ejbc-JARs being deployed.
But I am confused as to why ejbc would need to be used to create a client-ejbc-JAR.
From the client's perspective, isn't it simply enough to have the no-ejbc-JAR
(or a subset of the no-ejb-JAR) containing the EJB home and remote interfaces
(along with any non-ejbc generated support classes)? For use by the client, why
would it be necessary to run the no-ejbc-JAR through ejbc to create a client-ejbc-JAR?
Or do I have an incorrect understanding of the role of ejbc?
Thanks,
Rob

Hello Rob,
I will try to clarify a couple of your concerns. First of all, if your EJB jar
contains CMP 2.0 entity beans, the underlying JDBC implementations must be generated
for your respective abstract classes of the entity beans. EJBC will generate this
for you automatically. Also, the EJBC utility generates all of the other necessary
server classes that WebLogic requires for deploying your EJBs (such as custom
code for handling transactions, security, and other EJB services). When your EJB
utilizes remote home/component interfaces, the utility will also generate all
of the necessary client-side proxy and server-side byte code by running the RMI
compiler on your EJBs. In addition to the above code generation that takes place,
EJBC also checks all of your EJBs and makes sure that they are written according
to the EJB specification. This way you will always be sure that your EJBs will
be deployable on BEA WebLogic if EJBC returns with no error messages. You also
asked if EJBC must be run manually before deploying the EJBs. If you run your
application in exploded directory format, WebLogic will automatically invoke the
EJBC utility prior to deploying your EJBs. Please refer to the links below for
more information about the EJBC utility as well as deploying your application
in exploded directory format:

http://edocs.bea.com/wls/docs70/programming/deploying.html#1125152
Also, feel free to examine the code that EJBC generates to gain a better feel
for what's happening behind the scenes. Also, please be aware that ejbc has been
deprecated in WebLogic 8.1, in favor of the appc utility:

• About the seperator in database

Hi friends,
I have a question about Oracle DataBase Driver.
Which method can I use to fetch the seperator between the schema and its objects.I know it is "." like scott.emp.
It seems that the driver doesn't offer the medhod to get the schema seperator.
Which method can I use to fetch the catalog seperator like "select * from scott.emp@myDBLINK".
It seems that the catalog seperator returned from the method is wrong.It is NULL but actually it is "@".
Thanks!

1) What database driver are you talking about? JDBC? ODBC? OLE DB? ODP.Net? Something else?
2) The @ sign signifies the presence of a database link. It's entirely possible that whatever generic API you're discussing doesn't have a method to get the @ sign because different databases have rather different syntax for referring to objects on remote databases.

• Updating a CLOB using the JDBC 8.1.6 driver

I have two issues on which comments are welcome. ( I am using the thin driver )
1. Using the JDBC 2.0 way of updating a CLOB
is not possible as the manuals state that
this can cause "serious corruption".
2. Using the Oracle specific way ( using
Oracle specific classes ), it looks like
I cant update a CLOB column without
retrieving it first.
It looks like I need a handle to the CLOB
in a CLOB object before I can update it.
This is very frustrating because in my application, we retrieve objects from a database, may keep the object in memory for
a long time and then update the object from
the in-memory copy. If I had to use the Oracle specific way of updating clobs, every
time I need to update a clob, I need to
retrieve the clob first and then update it
which runs contrary to handling of other types of columns.
null

Ah. I think you're referring to:
In the implementation of the Oracle JDBC drivers, this functionality is supported only for a configuration using an 8.1.6 database and 8.1.6 JDBC OCI driver. Do not use this functionality for any other configuration, as data corruption can result.
yeah, that's about what I'm seeing. Anything over 4k blows up. Hopefully the 8.1.6 driver + DBMS will fix these problems.
Has anyone out there tried it? Can we use the GetClob/GetBlob, or even the getXXXStream() methods in 8.1.6 against CLOB/BLOB columns
? I sure hope so. SQL Server and mySQL :-)drivers can both handle it.
