About to spent over 3 grand on kit to make films, advice is appreciated!...
Hi guys, just looking for a little advice and reassurance really.
I'm about to purchase the following for use with Final Cut Studio 2...
1 x Apple Mac Pro with 2.8ghz quad core intel xeon, 8gb ram, Nvidia GeForce 8800 GT 512mb GDDR3, 700GB 7200-rpm Serial ATA Hard Disk, 1 16x Super Drive, Five USB Ports, Two Firewire 400 ports, Two Firewire 800 ports - £1900
1 x Sony DSR PD170 Camera with parts and wide angle lens (Drum 28x10, Tape run 10x10) - £1241.95
Hoping to film some corporate stuff, weddings etc for a little while, what do you think of the prices and spec?
Also looking for a PD150 just as a backup camera if anyone knows of any going?

What about audio gear, lighting and light controls? Insurance? And I'll agree with Andy that you're severely limiting yourself with that camera.
We ran a successful business for years without owning a darn thing, but renting as needed. It's very easy that way to give your clients exactly what they want. If you're invested in a particular camera-- either owned outright or still being financed, you're losing money if you've got to shoot with something else. Goling the rental route, you've always got access to the best and newest gear. Let THEM stay current and you benefit from it.
This will also help you to understand the going market rates so you don't shoot yourself in the foot.
I DO think a speedy edit system is essential to own these days-- in fact we bought final cut back in 2000 for a low cost solution for our non-profit agency clients who could never make up their minds. We were finishing in digibeta suites at that time, for a gazillion dollars an hour, while they sat there overthinking every cut that they had already approved. Sounds like ad agency folks doesn't it?
Now I don't edit with anything else. It sure has grown.
So.... explore the rental houses near to you. Go meet people. They're all happy to help new clients-- big or small. Some of the small ones quickly become big ones. Something to consider.

Boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
resetpassword
That's one word, all lower case, with no spaces. Then press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not going to reset a password.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.

i cannot mirror from ipad or ipad air to a samsung smart tv via appletv.Any ideas please?
I have tried with an Ipad Air and Ipad using Op System 8.0.2 to mirror their contents to the screen of my Samsung Flat Screen Flat TV via the latest make of Appletv.I have spent over 2 hours going through all settings etc with Apple Customer Service Live Chat.They cannot find or replicate the problem and says it is all working fine.My TV screen displays, when i go into mirroring, "ready for connection - on your device launch Allshare Cast".Nothing happens although i have agreed with Apple Support that all settings are on and are correct.Can anyone help please, as Apple Support cannot?

so annoyed with this new itunes, spent over 2 hrs to get one ringtone on iphone,why apple has to make it so complicated, on samsung just a push of button ringtone or music is on ur phone... i think its time to say good bye to iphone... Not a user friendly...
Highly recommended for samsung galaxy S4....hi i had the same problem today when i updated my itunes to latest version. however, i have just found my songs in the 'itunes media' folder. this was accessed through 'my music' then keep clicking through until you find itunes media and all my library songs were in there and i then just added these files to my library and all were restored however, i have lost all my playlists but at least my 700 songs are back. very dissapointed with apple that they have let this happen with their latest update, the previous version was miles better than this one . hope you find them. stevo

How to use flex Component Kit to make a button

I have moved my library to an external hard drive and changed the location of the iTunes media folder in Preferences, but every time I close and re-open iTunes, I have to do it all over again. How can I make the iTunes media folder change permanent? I have an older machine with Windows XP.
I don't believe mounting the hard drive should be necessary, unless you have several external drives and want your computer to recognise them as folders, rather than drives. I've never had to mount a hard drive, ever. If you don't know how to do it, then it shouldn't be necessary now.
Try this:
Prepare iTunes so that it can see the external drive.
Make a note of which drive-letter the external drive has been allocated. (Look in Windows Exploer)
Look at the file location for a song. Make sure it plays (and therefore that iTunes has found it). Highlight it and select File/Get Info/Summary>Where: and make a note of the drive letter for that song.
Close and shut down the computer.
The next time you turn the computer on again, connect the external drive
Before you start iTunes - check the external drive in Windows Explorer. Is it ready, does it have the same drive-letter that it had last time? Can you go into the drive and see the files on it?
Once you can, start iTunes. (If the drive lettter has changed, you need to work out why before going any further.)
If iTunes fails to find your external drive, you need to check where iTunes is looking for your Library.
Select the same song you checked before (presumably iTunes can no longer find it). Follow the procedure for locating it. You should be able to see where iTunes thinks the file is. It's the drive that counts. Which drive letter is iTunes looking at? Is it the same one that it was previously (which should also be the same one that the drive has now).
What happens, which step do you have problems with?

Why are there so many more choices on the USA iTunes Store? Surely having an iTunes account should let you access all itunes availability the world over?
Also how do you request films/tv series to the UK itunes? There's tv series I'd like but they're incomplete like The Batman & Xena Warrior Princess. And films theta aren't available for download but you can purchase in a store like HMV? Apple isn't doing itself any favours by secluding countries by their store. They'd make billions if you could just select the iTunes Store you want to search & purchase from just by signing in! If anything what they're doing is putting themselves into a corner, other companies like Samsung & HTC are already on too of them for innovation & ease of use. The people they're attracting are predominantly existing Apple users not new customers. What do you guys think?It's not Apple's choice, they can only sell a particular item where the content provider/rights-holder has granted them a license to sell them. Content is licensed by the rights-holders to Apple on a country-by-country basis, each country therefore has to have its own store, and you have to be in a country to use its store - they want control over where their content is available.
You can try requesting that an item be added to the UK store via this page, but unless the rights-holder agrees to then Apple won't be able to sell it here : http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunes.html -

How do I turn of ligatures in the font rendering?
My flex project involves trying to match the font rendering of Apache's Batik rendering of SVG and ligatures have been turned off in that codebase. Is there any way (even roundabout) to turn ligatures off in flash?

COMLAINT NO TELEPHONE spent over 5 hrs on phone
I am so very upset with Comcast. My mother has had comcast for over 10 years, internet, TV and 3 phone lines. Yesterday she had no internet or phone. I called from my cell phone ( have my own account at different home) and each time I spoke to anyone, despite giving HER account number they verified the account I was calling about as the one at my home.Moving past that initial basic inadequacy, her Netgear router was not in the Comcast system and could not be added. After 45 minutes I was transferred to the activation depatment, cold transfer.... and forced by the automated system to repeat all the information I had already provided..... and then the call was cut off. Deep breath.... call again..... provide all the same info, go theu the same conversaiton and answer all the same questions again.... but at least the second time I was warm transferred to activation for the internet. By now we are past 2 hrs spent on a Sunday afternoon. After 20 minutes, conferenced in to some other department, was told that both the netgeat and arris equipment were at end life and needed to be traded in.... go to the Comcast center and trade in.Well.... despite living in the 2nd largest city in IL ,Comast closed the local center and relocated it 45 minutes away. I requested that someone come and look at her equipment and repair, replace as needed... the soonest appointment was Saturday Jule 25 from 5-7!!!! REALLY!!!!No homephone or internet for 1 week!!!! So the appointment was escalated to approved appointment by supervisor, for Monday with a promise to call me with the work ticket number and no call back after 2.5 hrs wasted on phone.'My 80 yr old mother waitied all day for someone to come and of course..... NEVER happened.So after work I went back there called again, and focused on the phone. This time was told the equipment was broken ( after going thru the same nonsense about linking the account to my phone ( AGAIN after gicing both my mom's account # and last 4 of SS#!!!!!) Again, escalated call ticket and call "dropped" again when I put the phone down to get my mothers cell phone as the number to call for the technician!!! So,,,, called again.... 15- 20 minute wait..... on this call back, the customer serivce tech could not access anything on her computer, so she wrote it by hand and could not provide ANY information on when this issue would be fixed!!!!!! Simply UNACCEPTABLE for the supposed largest internet service provider in the US!!!! I am definitly registering a complain with the BBB and am posting this online.

I bought this iPad (think it is an iPad 2 not actually sure, a about a few months ago. Yesterday I decided to go on iTunes store and purchase a rental movie which cost approx $6 NZD. After about 2 hours I ran out of data and the movie hadn't even downloaded halfway so I purchased more data thinking another Gb would do. Then i got a message from itunes that my ipad didnt have enough storage so i went into settings and dleeted apps and docs (apparently also deleted from icloud too) to make room for the movie. Now after purchasing another 7GB of data at over three times the cost of the rented movie it finally finished downloading and I had enough space on my iPad. But now I can't find the actual movie...I go to iTunes to purchases and view movies , to downloads and searched the title of the movie...I can see an icon of it and it is in a separate place from other purchases but it says downloaded in faded lettering. Where is it? Why have I just wastednearlyb$50 just tying to download and watch one measly movie! It is obviously some secret formula or thing I've missed...it shouldn't be so hard! The day before this I successfully downloaded a song I purchased and can listen to with no probs. do I need another app to store downloaded movies or something?

Question about Model Driven over RTMPS configuration
I am testing model driven development features these days and encountered a problem:
When I used RTMP channel to retrieve data from the server, everything works fine, however when I tried to use RTMPS channel, I got following error:

the CodeModel is the model I created by using the modler under Flash Builder4, and it simply include one table called Code. I can retrieve data, update and delete data with this model over RTMP channel, but not over RTMPS channel.
I set up my RTMPS channel by creating a self-signed certificate and installed it in the trusted area of the browser, then I referenced the keystore file in the service-config.xml, here is the snap of my configuration:

The server side log did not show any exceptions, I am wondering is there any other settings that I need to pre-config in order to make my app run over the RTMPS channel?
Any help will be appreciated!The problem is solved. The error message is due to the default channel was set to RTMP in my data-management-config.xml file. That's why modifing the application level default channel does not work. After I changed it to RTMPS, it worked.
One more thing to make sure though, if I want to use both of the RTMP channel and RTMPS channel in my app (not for fail over) , I have to create at least two models right? Also do I need to change the default channel in data-management-config.xml if the model I am about to deploy expects different channel than previous models? -

Does anyone know a direct number for adobe that will not cost you to just ask about their program which will not work with a new mac update!
You can do that in iPhoto, too. Just go to the iphoto prefs>advanced, and set PSE as your external editor. Note that the actual editor is not the file at the top level of Applications>Adobe Photoshop Elements < version number >, but rather hidden away inside the Support Files folder:
Then you just right the click the photo in iphoto and choose edit with external editor.
If you have the new Photos app, you can't drag and drop, either.
