Access oracle server installed on linux from client on winxp

Hi
I am new to this forum and oracle on linux too. I am trying to install Oracle 10gr2 on fedora 8. If I installed oracle on fedora 8, can I log onto oracle from windows xp so that i can practice sql, if so how can I do that
please help me.

Hi,
Please download the Oracle Database 10g Client for Windows at http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/database/oracle10g/htdocs/10201winsoft.html
Then please install the client and configure it, after that, you can use sqlplus to connect the DB on Linux. See http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/install.102/b15662/toc.htm for details.
Also, you can use ssh or telnet to connect to the linux from windows, and run the sqlplus command on the linux server directly.

  • Q: How to access Oracle DB 10g XE Linux from "OpenSuse11" desktop

    Hello all
    I am just throwing this question out there as I have not yet done my homework on this topic. I know Oracle has a client application that one can install on Windows XP and access the DB on a Windows server e.g. 2003.
    Q1 Is there a client application that one can install on an "OpenSuse 11" desktop to access the DB?
    Q2 Would one need such an application to access the DB? Eventhough one can access the DB via Firefox?
    Q3 Has anyone gone down this path and what issues if any I should be concern with?
    Thank you in advance
    Regards,
    Luis

    Hi luis, you have to install oracle Client for Linux x86/x86_64 for accessing to the database. it's not neccesary install the client for an application, for example if you use jdbc in java application, you put all parameters(protocol, ip, service name, etc) to configure it.

  • Access Oracle 10g OLAP Analytic Worspace from BOE XI for Universes creating

    Hi skilled!
    Is there any environment to access  Oracle 10g OLAP Analytic Worspace
    from BOE XI (not from BOE XIR2) for Universes creating ?
    Thank you.

    Hello Walter,
    Thanks for the response.
    I'm using the following SAP GUI: 710 Final Release, Version 7100.2.7.1038, Build 971593, Patch-Level 7.
    Trying to install the Desktop part of the integration kit results in the follwoing message: Unable to perform Desktop installation. The installation is unable to proceed with a desktop installation because Crystal Reports 2008 was not detected. To perform a Desktop installation, it must be installed.
    Without having installed any integration kit on the client side, I can still see the data access driver for SAP Business Warehouse 3.x in the Universe Designer (when trying to define a new connection). After providing the respective parameters, however, a connection is not established successfully. When testing the connection it just tells me that the connection trial failed (SBO0001), without providing any further details.
    What do you think, is the problem? The SAP GUI? Is it at all required for my purposes (generating OLAP universes in Designer from SAP BI) to install the integration kit on the client side? As far as I have read, it is?
    Thanks, Konrad

  • Accessing Oracle Server without Installing Oracle Client

    Hi
    I work on a linux based server which would be installed with Oracle Server. My problem is that I dont want to install Oracle Client on every client workstation since there are 1500 PCs in my company.
    Could anyone help me on this?
    Please note that all of the workstation are using Windows Operating System.
    Thanks
    Antony

    I do not believe such an animal exists. Since Oracle's wire protocol is proprietary, reverse engineering it is a very significant investment.
    If you need to access the Oracle server without installing the Oracle client, can you use the thin JDBC driver?

    Oracle 8.0.5 on Linux don't come with Windows 95/98/NT client. I

  • Need info on accessing oracle server on laptop.

    We have a laptop that has oracle server and VS2003 website. I want to connect to that laptop on the network with my new laptop to upgrade the website to VS2005. Ive installed the oracle 9i client tools on my new laptop. Not sure where i go or what to do from here.
    Anyone know/or can point me to links i can read on how to do the rest of the setup on my new laptop to connect to that other laptops oracle server?

    You need an Oracle Networking connection from the client machine to the database machine.
    I'll describe the pieces that are involved, you decide what you need.
    1) On the server side, we have a network listener that listens for network connection requests to the Oracle database(s)
    a) The listener gets started either using 'lsnrctl start' or the Windows 'listener' service;
    b) the database instance starts up and registers it's availability to the listener by sending
    a message to the listener defined in the LOCAL_LISTENER parameter
    - the default for the parameter is 'null', meaning this host on port 1521
    - the registration can be forced by running the 'ALTER SYSTEM REGISTER;' command in sqlplus, or by hard coding an entry in the listener.ora file
    c) the listener will listen on behalf of the computer in it's listener.ora file ... a 'protocol' error often indicates a host name discrepancy here
    d) when it receives a service connection request, the listener will verify the service is available and request a connection of that service. In the database case, often this will result in a separate thread or process being established (aka server process) which will open a separate port, which the listener passes to the client ... the client switches from communicating with the listener to communicating with the server process.
    2) On the client side, the client application uses Oracle Networking to find and connect to the listener above.
    Typical connection information information contains 3 pieces:
    - host to contact;
    - port which the listener is monitoring;
    - service to which the listener is to make a connection
    The client uses any number of methods to derive that information. Most common with an Oracle software install is the TNSNAMES.ORA file - the app client provides a 'lookup alias' to Oracle Networking, the OraNet looks up that alias (left side of =) in the TNSNAMES.ORA and reads the 3 pieces of info from the right side of the '='.
    Notes:
    0) The listener.ora and tnsnames.ora can be maintained using the 'NETCA' or 'NETMGR' programs.
    1) Each Oracle software install may install a new TNSNAMES.ORA and you could end up with a lot that have different info. Filling out one, does not imply that the alias will be found in a different one.
    If you get any 'could not find' messages during connection it might be from maintaining the wrong one.
    2) If the server moves, the tnsnames.ora may be pointing to the wrong host.

  • Access denied while loading jar files from client

    I am creating a platform
    that can be started by JWS
    and then load plug-ins from client drive.
    I've signed my platform (packaged as a jar file),
    and set up the security tag in my jnlp,
    so that it can access client files.
    The plug-ins are packaged as jar files.
    And in one of the plug-ins, there is a class that has a JFileChooser field.
    While initializing this field, the AccessControlException is thrown.
    I can't figure out what is wrong,
    So I tried to sign the plug-in, but the problem stands still.
    PS. I have made my own ClassLoader,
    and this platform works well without JWS.
    Please help me, thanks.

    When running under Java Web Start, a security manager is installed.
    Since you have created your own classloader, you are responsible for assigning permissions to the classes you load.
    You can change you class loader to extend SecureClassLoader, then override getPermissions:
    protected PermissionCollection getPermissions(CodeSource codesource) {
    PermissionCollection perms = super.getPermissions(codesource);
    /* add whatever permissions you want your code to hance*/
    perms.add( ... );
    /* or just add all-permissions */
    perms.add(new AllPermission());
    or - you can just remove the Security Manager:
    System.setSecurityManager(null);

  • How to remove Oracle Server 8.0.5 from AIX 5.2?

    I am attempting to remove software Oracle Server Enterprise Edition 8.0.5 using program orainst. I change directory to /u01/app/oracle/product/8.0.5/orainst and execute the command and get an error message:
    $ ./orainst
    Cannot determine if this is AIX version 3 or 4.
    Oracle cannot be installed.
    Exiting orainst procedure.
    This UNIX server is running AIX 5.2. I was trying to use Oracle's program to uninstall the software instead of using a UNIX command to remove the files. When I run the Oracle 10gR2 OUI it lists only the 10gR2 software as being installed. It does not show the 8.0.5 and 9.2.0 software that I want to uninstall. I am going to raise the 10gR2 OUI question in a different post.
    Does anyone have a suggestion on dealing with the message from the 8.0.5 orainst program?
    Am I taking the right steps to uninstall the 8.0.5 software?
    Thank you,
    Bill

    Oracle's recommended way to remove software is via the same program used to install it. If that is not possible they do give instructions on removing directories using UNIX commands. If I use UNIX commands there remains the problem of updating file /u01/app/oracle/oraInventory/ContentsXML/inventory.xml to remove references to the software I deleted.
    Remarks in ContentsXML state clearly
    "<!-- Do not modify the contents of this file by hand. -->". That tells me not to use vi to edit the file and delete obsolete references.
    Since the file contains lines
    <HOME NAME="ORACLE_HOME1" LOC="/u01/app/oracle/product/8.1.7" TYPE="O" IDX="1"/>
    <HOME NAME="ORACLE_HOME" LOC="/u01/app/oracle/product/9.2.0" TYPE="O" IDX="2"/>
    <HOME NAME="ORACLE_HOME_10g" LOC="/u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0" TYPE="O" IDX="3"/>
    <HOME NAME="agent10g" LOC="/u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/agent10g" TYPE="O" IDX="4"/>
    how else am I to remove references to deleted software except by execution of Oracle's install software?
    Thank you,
    Bill

  • How can i access dmz server via public ip from inside?

    hi all !
    As shown in Figure,how can i access the server in dmz zone via public?
    i can access it via private ip 192.168.1.1 now,but i can't access it via 101.100.1.2.
    who can help me ?
    thank you !

    Hi,
    You would have to configure Static NAT from DMZ to INSIDE for the server in the same way you have done for DMZ to OUTSIDE.
    Basically in the following way for example
    object network DMZ-WEB
    host 192.168.1.1
    nat (dmz,inside) static 101.100.1.2
    This would enable your users on the "inside" to access the "dmz" server with the public IP address. And naturally only with the public IP address after this NAT.
    Hope this helps
