Accessiing XML in Oracle 10g

I have been working with a 'native' XML 'DB' and want to now do the same things with Oracle. I have a large number (several thousand) very small (<1K) XML documents. I want to search through them using XQuery but create and update them using the resource within a folder concept. There is no fixed schema for the XML.
The first question is what is the best way to get Oracle to store the documents? I understand that there are a couple of choices and I think I need the "repository" approach but I am not clear about the implications of that in terms of doing querying. I thought I saw in one of the docs that this required building an in memory DOM for every one of the docs when a query is being done?
I am doing all of the querying and storing/updates through Java. One of the documents I have been reading mentions XQuery in a section title but then says nothing about how it is supported in the section. Is XQuery really supported? Is the only way to do a query through SQL and JDBC?
I am hoping to move completely to using Oracle and I think everything is doable but I have had a bit of a hard time understanding exactly how.

Okay I found what I was looking for (in Release 2). Why doesn't the search on the OTN pages return anything when I search for XQuery but Google finds pages in the site????

    Due to lack of leased line connectivity i want to port these offline data from 8i to 10g

    and from XML to 10g.

    Thanks Nicolas,
    As per documentation, it seems to be difficult for export/import from Oracle8i to 10g. Is that any way to achieve this? I have to append the newly imported data with old or exisiting data into Oracle10g.

    I was going to write up a longer answer, but then I realized this post contains pretty much all you need
    http://www.liberidu.com/blog/?p=365
    I like using XMLElement/XMLForest to build the XML as it gives you the most control.
    In the first example on Marco's website, you would just use dbms_xslprocessor.clob2file to write each file out to disk with a CURSOR FOR loop instead of doing a single OPEN/FETCH/CLOSE. The cursor would return two columns, employee.id and the generated XML. The filename would be based on the "id" column returned by the CURSOR.
    Assumption: The machine that Oracle resides on has the "C:\temp" directory that you want to write to. You cannot use this method to right files onto a client machine.
    Hope that gets you started.

  • Use of XML in Oracle 10G

    Hi,
    I am using Oracle 10 G.
    i am having a scenario that, I am getting 2 files as input. I have do full outer join on some columns.
    Prior I don't know on what columns I am going to apply join. The input file structure may changes.
    I would like to configure these type of scenario.
    I thought, I can acheive this using XML.
    So, Can we do this using Oracle XML?
    Any suggestion or help would be appreciated greatly.
    Thanks in advance.
    Thank you,
    Regards,
    Gowtham Sen.

    Thanks Billy.
    Yes you are right.
    Here why I discarded that option is,
    I may get the source files with changing layouts.
    My Actual scenario is as follows.
    Initially we developped all the things using PL/SQL packages. Its working fine.
    But as per the inputs we received from requirements group, the file structure changes dynamically. and we would able to consider those new columns also. We should be able to changes the rules dynamically.
    Lets say, we doing fullouter join on Src_A and Src_B. on columns col1_A and col1_B.
    Now the requirement changes in a way that, the join should be done on Src_A and Src_C. on columns col1_A and col_C.
    For this I need to define a new package.
    Instead of that, I would like to do everything dynamically based on configuration parameters given as input.
    Thank you,
    Regards,
    Gowtham Sen

  • Help In XML schema using  oracle 10g

    i want to give seminar in XML schema using oracle 10g. n i m very new in this topic. so help me out which topic i include & any document regarding this

    XML Schema has various aspects.
    1. Creating an XML Schema, which may be done in JDeveloper.
    2. Initializing an XML document from an XML Schema, which may also be done in JDeveloper.
    For creating and initializing an XML Schema please refer

  • XML SCHEMA registration for XML TYPE (storing XML files in Oracle 10g)

    I have created the XML Schema for the XML file stored in Oracle 10g and also added this Schema into the database. I have related that schema with the column in the table which contains the XML file. When i execute the query to fetch the data from the stored file i am getting a blank resultset. Is registering the XML Schema is necessary, if yes then please let me know the process of doing it. I have tried following steps to register Schema, but it is not working
    Step1:
    DECLARE
    v_return BOOLEAN;
    BEGIN
    v_return := dbms_xdb.createFolder('/home/');
    v_return := dbms_xdb.createFolder('/home/DEV/');
    v_return := dbms_xdb.createFolder('/home/DEV/xsd/');
    v_return := dbms_xdb.createFolder('/home/DEV/messages/');
    v_return := dbms_xdb.createFolder('/home/DEV/employees/');
    COMMIT;
    END;
    STEP 2:
    Connecting To XML DB
    Step3:
    Register XML schema
    I am failing to execute step number 2 and hence not able to register the schema also.

  • XML parser error occured in oracle 10g

  • Availability of the SQL/XML functions (XMLELEMENT, etc.) in Oracle 10g XE

    Hi,
    I have installed Oracle 10g XE on a Windows PC. According to the Oracle XML DB Developer's Guide p.2-1, the installation of the Oracle XML DB can be checked via the following commands:
    select * from all_users;
    describe resource_view
    I ran both commands and got the desired output according to the Developer's guide, i.e.: The user XDB exists and so does the view resource_view. However, when I ran a small test with the XMLELEMENT function, then I got unsatisfactory results:
    Example:
    SELECT
    XMLELEMENT (
    NAME Land,
    XMLATTRIBUTES (L.LCode AS LCode),
    XMLELEMENT (NAME LName, L.LName)
    ) AS Mondial
    FROM Land L;
    Output on Oracle 10g XE:
    MONDIAL
    SYS.XMLTYPE
    SYS.XMLTYPE
    SYS.XMLTYPE
    SYS.XMLTYPE
    Expected output (which I got from a successful run on an Oracle 10g EE Server):
    MONDIAL
    <LAND LCODE="A "><LNAME>Austria</LNAME></LAND>
    <LAND LCODE="F "><LNAME>France</LNAME></LAND>
    <LAND LCODE="D "><LNAME>Germany</LNAME></LAND>
    <LAND LCODE="I "><LNAME>Italy</LNAME></LAND>
    i.e., rather than the four XML elements, I just got four times the output sys.xmltype - which is of course useless. What can I do to get the desired output? Thank you for your help.
    Reini, user524179

    What program are you using to run the sql? Are you sure you are using sql*plus for getting this?
    Output on Oracle 10g XE:
    MONDIAL
    SYS.XMLTYPE
    SYS.XMLTYPE
    SYS.XMLTYPE
    SYS.XMLTYPE

    , it is giving some error Hmmm, six attempts and you still didn't manage to tell us what the actuall error message and number was. Oracle has thousands of error messages. If you would like us to help you, make it easy for us to figure out what's going on. Don't make us guess.

  • Avoid Bug 7146375 ORA-4030 MEMORY LEAK IN (Xml generation) in oracle 10g

    Hi All,
    I have to generate an xml from database which contains around 4 lac records. I had written a query using XmlSerialize and XmlElement.
    It does run properly for records less than 2 lacs.
    But when the record count goes above 2 lacs..it is throwing the following error -
    { ORA-04030: out of process memory when trying to allocate 1032 bytes (qmxlu subheap,qmemNextBuf:alloc)
    ORA-06512: at "SYS.XMLTYPE", line 111!}
    For the above error - I have tried increasing pga from 480M to 800M, but still we are getting the same error.
    After researching i found out -
    Cause
    This is caused by the following bug:
    Bug 7146375 ORA-4030 AND MEMORY LEAK IN SESSION HEAP: "KOH DUR HEAP D"
    Solution
    Bug 7146375 is fixed in 11.2
    So i tried out the query in another a db which has 11g installed and my query runs perfectly fine for records of upto 4 lacs.
    But since we have oracle 10g on our clients machine, are there other ways to achieve this XML generation other than this?
    Thanks.

If Oracle have investigated and created a bug report that says the solution is to upgrade to 11.2, then that's the answer, otherwise they would indicate that a particular 10g patch set can also be used.

    How do I configure Oracle 10g Forms 9i to compile XML code? Is there a particular configuration file I need to update with .jar files that references XML processing or parsing?

    There is a java utility that can take an XML file that you have generated from an fmb file previously and compile it back to an fmb file.
    Its called frmxml2f.bat. You'll find it in $Oracle_home/bin

  • Loading XML File into Oracle 10G XE

    I am trying to load an XML file into 10G XE from the Utilities interface, I have created a Table to load into but when I try to load I get the following cryptic error "XML Load Error". There is no other information, can someone give me some insight where to start to resolve this problem?

    The error messages when importing fails provided by APEX 2.1 are not very useful as they do not provide any clue...
    If possible, you can try to load XML file with SQL*Loader - probably you will get then more useful error messages.
