Accessing function's return value
Hi there. I have created several pl/sql procedures and functions that I can run as standalone programs and I have no problem integrating them into my java code also. However I cannot access the return value of any created function from my java code. The functions appear to execute correctly because when I deliberately enter an invalid select statement I get the errors I expect to get for that instance nad if I enter a valid select statement in the function the program executes correctly but I still cannot access the function's return value. My java code where I execute the pl/sql function is as follows:
CallableStatement p = cont.conn.prepareCall("{call ? := Hellen.FUNC}");
p.setString(1, "z006"); //hellen.FUNC = function name
p.execute();
How do I access the return value of my function?
Do I need to get a ResultSet?
My function is as follows:
function func
return varchar
is tester varchar(4);
BEGIN
select cfcc_code into tester from hellen.test1 where test1.cfcc_code = 'A21';
return tester;
END;
Any help will be gratefully received, Joe
You need to do something like
p.registerOutParameter(1, java.lang.String);
p.execute();
String result = p.getString(1);Cheers, APC

Authorization check on Function module return values
Hi,
I have a tricky situation. In our BW implementation, many of the FI infoobjects are authorization relevent. One of the objects is 0COSTCENTER. A user has been assigned with authorization profile, in which the user is authorised for COST CENTER = A* and #. All planning templates were working nice.
We were on SP 12 earlier, now we upgraded to SP 20. Now came a issue, the user gets error that user is not authroised for the data. After our analysis, we found nothing wrong as such, so contacted SAP. They came back with a root cause
In my planning function, an ABAP function module is used. The function module returns a COSTCENTER value. This return value is then assigned to a variable, this variable is of type 0COSTCENTER.
SAP said there was a bug in their own design. The bug was, if the cost center value is directly used in planning function for other calculations, it will throw an authorization error. But, if the COST CENTEr value is given to a variable and that variable is used for other calculations, it works fine. Thats why it worked for us earlier.
Now, they have removed that bug, so variables are also checked against authorizations and they said we need to either change the code or give * for the COST CENTER authorization.
So we have a problem. It is not straight forward to give * for COSTCENTER in FI BW implementation. SAP theory is that they cannot say which value the functional module will return. So they will check against ALL the values for COSTCENTER but not the authorised values.
Has anyone seen this issue before? is it only specific to planning function or its just ABAP concept? Any suggesations to come out this problem?Bindu, thanks,
The error is coming at the program compile level itself i.e. before executing the planning group itself. As per the F1 help on forumla editor and from their support, the system reads all the reference data, So when it sees the function module and its export parameter, it captures all the data for COST CENTER as reference data.
Thus even I am sure that the return value will be always authorized, the reference data is checked for the full authorization. Thus its failing -
Web Services from ABAP function modules return values- leading zeros
I am using several web services from SAP CRM (5.0) that were created from Function modules ( I am assuming that that they are in ABAP).
I can call the web services fine and they work as expected, but I am seeing a lot of leading zeros in the return values of fields in tables from the Web service.
The ABAP ers are telling me that they cannot see the leading zeros.
So my question is where these are appended to the values in the whole process. When I execute the Function Module in SAP CRM from transaction SE37 I can see the leading zeros. So I think that this is something that has to be handled by the ABAP ers and not in the client consuming the web service.
Are the functions in SAP CRM that can remove leading zeros for fields in a table (that is an export parameter?)
JawaharHello Jawahar
If you run your (RFC-enabled) function modules using the SAP-GUI (i.e. in dialog) then the GUI automatically replaces leading zero when the function module returns any data. However, calling the same function module remotely you will always see these leading zeros.
These so-called conversion exits are defined as attribute of domains in the ABAP dictionary. If the function module used for the WebService is a standard fm then you have little chances to get rid of the leading zero. Perhaps the WebService has some attribute to suppress conversion exits or activate them when retrieving the data.

Function not returning value in Discoverer report
Hi All,
I am using a PL/SQL function in a Discoverer Report to return a particular date. The way I am using is that I have created a PL/SQL function and registered the same in Discoverer Administatrator.
My problem is that when i run the report this function returns NULL for one particular unit but when i run the same on toad as
'select max_term_dt_pkg.max_term_dt_fn('703813','OM - AWAITING_SHIPPING - 1179628') from dual'
it returns the date as 26-May-2009
Actually it should return a value in the report also.
Can anyone guide me what could be the problem.
Regards,

Need help with MAX function to return values
I am trying to create a report to return slow moving inventory data. One of the requests is that it return only the latest date that an item transacted upon. One sheet will show the last receipt date for a part, another will show the last time a part was issued or shipped on a sales order.
The hiccup is that it is returning every single last time that an item was received, and every single last issuance of the material (on the second sheet) of items on hand.
Could someone help me to define the max value function? As listed below, and many variations, the sheet comes up with no data or corrupt dates.
MAX(Transaction Date MAX) OVER(PARTITION BY Material Transactions.Item ORDER BY Material Transactions.Item )
Still returns both the following when in reality I just want the one with the most recent date (April 2010).
100034 BNDSCE-105 - QUALITY BEARINGS OR EQUIVILANT A400M AB01D.. $0.00 WIP component issue 11-Sep-2009 -3
100034 BNDSCE-105 - QUALITY BEARINGS OR EQUIVILANT A400M AD01D.. $0.00 WIP component issue 13-Apr-2010 -16
Thank you for your assistance.
BeckaHi Becka
It does look correct. When I look at your data I can see 2 different items:
100034 BNDSCE-105 - QUALITY BEARINGS OR EQUIVILANT A400M AB01D.. $0.00 WIP component issue 11-Sep-2009 -3
100034 BNDSCE-105 - QUALITY BEARINGS OR EQUIVILANT A400M AD01D.. $0.00 WIP component issue 13-Apr-2010 -16
One is AB01D and the other being AD01D. Is this expected?
To get the right date you might want to PARTITION BY the BNDSCE-105 which might be the Item Number?
If you can get your calculation to return the correct date then you next need to put in a new condition where the Transaction Date = MAX Transaction Date
One part of the function that I would question is the use of MAX in both parts like this: MAX(Transaction Date MAX). You might be better just using MAX(Transaction Date) OVER ......
Does this help?
Best wishes

How to get the return value of a LOV item using javascript
Hello,
I am trying to put an onchange attribute in the HTML Form Element Attributes field of a LOV item. The javascript should access the new return value of the item. How is this done ? All the methods I have tried give only the display value, not the return value. For example $v() returns the display value.
TiinaIf your item is called P1_ITEM this will give you the return value of a popup (displays description,returns key value)
alert($x('P1_ITEM_HIDDENVALUE').value)

UDPWrite in a loop. "A Windows Sockets function call returned an unexpected error."
Hello together,
i use UDP Support Library in NI CVI 9.0. When i wait for receiving a packet at the pc to send then a packet from the pc, the functions UDPRead and UDPWrite work fine. If i want to test the maximum throughput, i put the UDPWrite in a loop, but then an error occurs. It is "kUDP_UnexpectedWinsockError"
Error Popup:
"NON-FATAL RUN-TIME ERROR: "main.c", line 53, col 22, thread id
0x00000C18: Library function error (return value == -6822
[0xffffe55a]). A Windows Sockets function call returned an unexpected
error."
Line 53:
status = UDPWrite (channel, 60100, "192.168.1.10", pOutputBuffer, 1458);
the whole loop:
while(1)
status = UDPWrite (channel, 60100, "192.168.1.10", pOutputBuffer, 1458);
counter++;
if(counter>50)
break;
else{;}
The error occurs after 3-16 packets have been sent. If i step through the programm, no error occurs. So i guess its because the UDPWrite command is invoked too fast. pOutputBuffer has static data. I could use a delay in the loop, but then i dont know how to configure for maximal throughput.
Any ideas how to avoid this error?
Regards FlorianHello and thank you for your answer. Sorry that i reply a month later.
I dont know what you mean by "let 'er rip approach". Do you mean something like:
status = UDPWrite (channel, 60100, "192.168.1.10", pOutputBuffer, 1458);
if(status==0)
counter++;
else
Delay(0.00005);
I did not yet try to put the packet number in the payload, but there is just a 30 cm crossover cable between the two devices, no switch, no router. So the sequence should not be interruptet. And even if they arrive in chaos, i dont mind.
I have contacted the NI support 2 weeks ago, but no response yet.
I did some tests with a delay between the execution of UDPWrite(). The code:
float time = 0.0;
for(i = 1; i < 1000; i++)
status = UDPWrite (channel, 60100, "192.168.1.10", pOutputBuffer, 1458);
time = 1.0 / i;
Delay(time);
The results:
For i between 1 and 1000: no error, the speed of the last ten packets was about 6.5 MBit/s
For i between 1000 and 2000: error occured at i = 1585 (variable time in Delay was 0.0006313), the speed of the last ten packets was about 8 MBit/s
Then i put some constant values in Delay and ran 100 UDPWrite iterations:
Delay(0.0006): 7.48 MBit/s
Delay(0.0001): 10.7 MBit/s
Delay(0.00001): error occured at i=31, speed of 31 packets was 12.0 MBit/s
Delay(0.00008): 100 of 100 packets, speed 10.9 MBit/s
Delay(0.00005): error at i=41, speed of 41 packets 11.1 MBit/s -
Stored function not returning result set unless recompiled
Hi,
I have a strange situation going on with a basic Java (1.6.0.17) application talking to an Oracle 11g (11.2.0.1.0) database. Basically what is happening is that sometimes a stored function's return value (a result set) is not making it as far as JDBC/Java, unless I recompile the stored function (with absolutely no changes to the application or function's code). I am always able to successfully see the result set if I call the function directly from within SQL Developer, just not on the Java app/JDBC side.
I've tried running with 3 different physical Oracle 11g servers and tried running the app on a couple of machines. I'm wondering if this is either some kind of caching issue or perhaps a JDBC bug/misconfiguration.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Attached to this message:
1. stored function code
2. snippet of Java app code

4. ODBC trace out when returned the correct result set (ie success scenario)

CDotNetLoadAssembly: (return value == -6597 [0xffffe63b])
Bonjour à tous,
Je viens de tourner une application labwindows/CVI 8.5.1, cette application utilise une DLL C# (VS2005) (Assembly .NET), mais j'ai toujours ce
message d'erreur : Function CDotNetLoadAssembly: (return value == -6597 [0xffffe63b]). Could not get CVI .NET error description. A .NET Framework version 1.1 or higher, or the CVI .NET modules may not be installed on your system. If not already present, install the required .NET Framework. Then repair the CVI Runtime Engine installer.
Et certainement j'ai bien sur mon poste de dev :
- Labwindows/CVI 8.5.1, SDK installé
- Framework 1.1
- Framework 2.0
Pouve-vous me donner des pistes ?
Et bien Merci d'avance
Résolu !
Accéder à la solution.Bonjour Nouri,
Cdt,
Rik.

How to Access the Return Value of a Function
Hi,
How do I access the return value when calling an Oracle function from .NET using Oracle.DataAccess.Client? The function returns an integer of 0, 1 or 99.
Dim db_command_oracle As New OracleCommand()
db_command_oracle.Connection = db_connection_oracle
db_command_oracle.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure
db_command_oracle.CommandText = "swsarsi.import_appointments"
Dim ret_value As New OracleParameter()
ret_value.OracleDbType = OracleDbType.Int32
ret_value.Direction = ParameterDirection.ReturnValue
ret_value.Size = 2
ret_value.OracleDbType = OracleDbType.Int32
db_command_oracle.Parameters.Add(ret_value)
Dim IN_student_id As New OracleParameter()
IN_student_id.OracleDbType = OracleDbType.Varchar2
IN_student_id.Direction = ParameterDirection.Input
IN_student_id.Size = 10
IN_student_id.Value = student_id
db_command_oracle.Parameters.Add(IN_student_id)
db_command_oracle.ExecuteNonQuery()
messagebox.show(ret_value) ?????Your ODP.NET code looks correct. What error are you seeing?
One thing that will definitely generate an error is that .NET message boxes require that strings be displayed. ret_value is a parameter object. You need to access its value and convert it to a string. At a minimum, you need to change that. -
Error getting return value from function
Hello
I'm getting a error calling a function with ODP.NET from C#
Code:
OracleCommand oraCom = new OracleCommand("NORMALIZACION.nif",oraCon);
oraCom.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure;
OracleParameter param1 = new OracleParameter("numnif",OracleDbType.Varchar2);
param1.Value= "73667866A";
param1.Direction = ParameterDirection.Input;
OracleParameter param2 = new OracleParameter("nif",OracleDbType.Varchar2);
param2.Size = 10; //FIXME line
param2.Direction = ParameterDirection.ReturnValue;
oraCom.Parameters.Add(param1);
oraCom.Parameters.Add(param2);
oraCom.ExecuteNonQuery();
nif_norm = oraCom.Parameters["nif"].Value.ToString();
if i write the FIXME line i get a error (ORA-06502) complaining about the size, no matter the value i wrote.
If i don't write the FIXME line, it works but nif_norm is always empty, although the function i call is a single return 'Hello';
Where am I wrong??
Any help, examples with varchar2 as return value???
BTW: the same code with the MS provider for Oracle works fine.Good point -- i shall do so.
What I think I'm missing, in my quest for ODP.NET competence, is a solid set of example code. I've searched around and found various fragements here and there, but when it comes to data access from .NET there must surely be some finitie set of possibilities (if we can discount bad practices like building dynamic SQL statements without bind variables).
For example, possibly in increasing order of complexity ...
* Read a single value from a SQL statement ... "select emp_name from emp where rownum < 2"
* Read a single value by passing in a parameter ... "select emp_name from emp where user_id = :?"
* read multiple values ... "select emp_name from emp where user_id in (:?,:?)"
* execute a stored procedure with no in or out parameters
* retreive a value from a function with no parameters
* pass a parameter to a stored procedure
* read an out parameter from a stored procedure
Then work with in and out ref cursors, blobs, whatever.

Getting Return values from RFC function call with visual basic
Hi,
I am creating a sample app to connect to a SAP system which call its RFC functions created with ABAP. It was known that the function will return more than 1 return values.
SAP Function name ==> "ZFMTP_RFC_GET_RESULT"
Export parameters (to SAP):
- Student Name [char 10] ==> "STUNAME"
- Student ID [char 20] ==> "STUID"
Return values (From SAP):
- Results [char 10] ==> "RESULT"
- Remarks [char 200] ==> "REMARKS"
i have managed to get sample codes for connecting and call a RFC function with vb but they only get a return value. How do i retrieve multiple return values like the above function "RESULT" and "REMARKS"?
Here's my vb code to accessing the function
Dim R3 As Object
Dim FBFunc As Object
Dim returnFunc As Boolean
Dim connected As Boolean
R3 = CreateObject("SAP.Functions")
R3.Connection.Client = "000"
R3.Connection.User = "BCUSER"
R3.Connection.Password = "minisap"
R3.Connection.Language = "DE"
R3.Connection.System = "dtsystem"
R3.Connection.Applicationserver = "xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx"
connected = R3.Connection.Logon(0, True)
If connected <> True Then
MsgBox("Unable to connect to SAP")
End If
FBFunc = R3.add("ZFMTP_RFC_GET_RESULT")
FBFunc.exports("STUNAME") = "Jonny"
FBFunc.exports("STUID") = "12345"
returnFunc = FBFunc.Call() <<== How do i get the return value? or RESULT and REMARKS of the RFC Function?
thanks alot.
Edited by: Eugene Tan on Mar 4, 2008 7:17 AMHi Gregor,
Thanks for the link....i am having some doubts with the codes, hope you can clarify them for me if you know the codes..
Below is the code snippet.
Set impReturn = CHPASS_FN.Imports("RETURN") <<=== is RETURN the standard keyword to get a return object?
expPassword.Value = currpass
expNewPass.Value = newpass
expFillRet.Value = "1"
''' Call change password function
If CHPASS_FN.Call = True Then
outFile.Write (", Called Function")
Message = impReturn("MESSAGE") <<==== So if i have 3 return values..i just replace with the return value variable names?
outFile.WriteLine " : " & Message
Else
outFile.Write (", Call to function failed")
End If
thanks alot...all your help is very appreciated. -
FDM Lookup function returning value not = the current POV
Is anyone having problems returning values for periods other than current POV.
"The FDM Lookup function is used to return the value of any source account that resides in FDM.
The function can be used within a logic function or a logic expression."
Presently I can only return value in current POV.
If anyone can return a source account value from a period other than the current POV let me know.

If use the same sample in the above blog provided by you, how about the result? Could you debug it with the same steps? I could debug it in my side using the VS2013.
So to make sure that whether it is your VS IDE issue, please debug it with this sample, if it works well, I doubt that we would think about your specific project and the debugging steps.
If so, to really repro this issue, could you share us a sample with one drive? You could upload your project to one drive and share us the downloaded link in your new reply, I will download and repro this issue in my side.
Best Regards,
Jack
