ACE HTTP requests

Hello,
I currently have a Serverfarm consisting of 6 Servers Load Balancing HTTP requests (Port 80) from the VIP to the Real Servers.
I now have a requirement to load balance another application on the same Real Servers  using the same VIP however the URL to be used is using Port 1880 within HTTP.
http://10.10.90.1:1880/Service.asmx
Any advice on how to configure this on the ACE would be appreciated.
thanks
Ian.

Ian,

  • ACE 4710 and mangled HTTP requests

    After replacing a Cisco CSS/SSL  Accelorator and PIX firewall with an ACE 4710 to do load balancing and  SSL encryption behind an ASA firewall we started seeing mangled HTTP  requests in the Apache access logs for the servers in the server farm.  Here is one example:
    XX.XX.XXX.XXX  - - [21/Oct/2012:01:42:12 -0500]  "heckoutFlag=true&verifyPassword=false&newsletter=false&emailaddress=&email2=&pass1=&pass2=&username=POST /register/LServlet HTTP/1.1" 501 3322 "https://www.ourwebsite.com/register/CServlet" "Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; MSIE 9.0; Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; Trident/5.0)"
    Rather  than appearing just after the timestamp, the "POST /register/LServlet"  is tacked on to header information that shouldn't even appear in the  log. Also the first letter in that header information is always missing  (heckoutFlag instead of checkoutFlag in this example).
    The  mangled request always shows up as a 501 HTTP error and shows up late  in the Apache access logs (timestamp is out of chronogical order) and  always appears with several duplicate POSTs:
    XX.XX.XXX.XXX - - [21/Oct/2012:01:42:23 -0500] "POST /register/LServlet HTTP/1.1" 200 8537 "https://www.ourwebsite/register/CServlet" "Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; MSIE 9.0; Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; Trident/5.0)"
    XX.XX.XXX.XXX - - [21/Oct/2012:01:44:12 -0500] "POST /register/LServlet HTTP/1.1" 200 8537 "https://www.ourwebsite/register/CServlet" "Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; MSIE 9.0; Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; Trident/5.0)"
    XX.XX.XX.XXX  - - [21/Oct/2012:01:42:12 -0500]   "heckoutFlag=true&verifyPassword=false&newsletter=false&emailaddress=&email2=&pass1=&pass2=&username=POST /register/LServlet HTTP/1.1" 501 3322 "https://www.ourwebsite.com/register/CServlet"  "Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; MSIE 9.0; Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; Trident/5.0)"
    XX.XX.XXX.XXX - - [21/Oct/2012:01:44:12 -0500] "POST /register/LServlet HTTP/1.1" 200 8537 "https://www.ourwebsite/register/CServlet" "Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; MSIE 9.0; Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; Trident/5.0)"
    This is occurring for several different URLs and not just the one above and for multiple web browsers.
    The ACE load balances to servers running Tomcat 7 with Apache HTTP server v. 2.2.14.
    A recent ACE software upgrade to A5(2.1) has not fixed the problem.
    Has anyone seen this before?
    Thanks for any insight you can provide.

    Hi Kari,
    Do you have a sample of the configuration which you got with the CSS?
    What is the current configuration which you got on the ACE?
    Can you shows this output: # show stats http?

  • ACE - HTTPS CLASS MAP CONFIGURATION

    Hi,
    We have a secured web site (HTTPS) currently fronted by Cisco ACE 4170, running version A5(1.2). We are trying to use the http class map to manipulate the traffic flow in the following manner:
    https://abc.com/ABC/* -> serverfarm#1
    https://abc.com/* -> serverfarm#2           (Default)
    Tecnically this should not be difficult and below is a sample of our configuration. We have similar configuration working on our non-secured web site (HTTP) However for the secure web site, the https request https://abc.com/ABC/xxx is continued being routed to serverfarm#2 instead of serverfarm#1 which is very frustrating.
    We can easily get this working on my F5 LTM within 5 minutes but this Cisco ACE continue to frustrate me...Appreciate if any expert on Cisco ACE can help to advise on our configuration.. Thanks.

    Kanwaljeet,
    Yes, we are using ACE for SSL termination i.e. front end is https and back-end is also https.
    We are doing end-to-end encryption as our IT security and audit wanted end-to-end encryption between the client and servers. ACE should be able to look at the HTTP header at the front end since the client SSL session is terminate on the ACE.
    Below is an extract of the configuration, I've leave out the remaining configuration which is not required.

  • Missing option to change HTTP request method on iView level

    Dear all,
    I am trying to implement an iView using the ApplicationIntegrator. Unfortunately I am getting the error message "Request Method POST is not allowed". I found this nice weblog where you have the option on the iView level to change the HTTP request method to "GET". Unfortunately I do not have this parameter.
    I am on EP6.0 SP 9.
    I really appreciate your help and will reward points.
    Thanks,
    Jens

    I'm not sure I fully follow what the problem is, or I'm misreading the issue.
    Just to be clear, you are in Active Directory Domains & Trusts console, you did a click on "Active Directory Domains and Trusts," and then you are saying on the left pane you are not seeing the "Raise Forest Functional Level"
    option, such as the following screenshot shows?
    I assume there is currently only one domain in the forest.
    Was there at any time another domain that was removed, such as a child domain or an additional domain tree, there was removed?
    What's the Schema version? To find it, run this without the quotes:
    "dsquery * cn=schema,cn=configuration,dc=domainname,dc=local -scope base -attr objectVersion"
    Schema Version Matrix:
    ============================
    Version 13 = Windows Server 2000
    Version 30 = Windows Server 2003 RTM, Windows Server 2003 with Service Pack 1, Windows Server 2003 with Service Pack 2
    Version 31 = Windows Server 2003 R2
    Version 44 = Windows Server 2008
    Version 47 = Windows Server 2008 R2

  • ACE HTTP Probe with regex

    ACE HTTP Probe with regex
    Hi,
    I'm trying to setup a HTTP probe with expected string rather then a code (config below). I do a GET for the page then a search for a string in the response however it's not working, as probe appears as failed.
    I've tested the connection to the server by using telneting and then looking at the page displayed to make sure the string I want to match is in the response.
    probe http HTTP-PROBE
    port 43050
    interval 30
    passdetect interval 30
    passdetect count 1
    request method get url /action=help
    open 43050
    expect regex action=help
    Q. Is there anything wrong with this configuration and what I'm trying to achive?
    Thanks,
    Pritesh

    Use "expect status" under probe config. expect regex doesnt work if expect status is not configured.
    expect regex work flawlessly with static pages. It doesnt work all the time with dynamic pages.
    Specially if "content-length" header is missing from Server response.
    Hope it helps

  • ACE HTTP Header Port Rewrite

    What is the syntax for rewriting the destination port for a HTTP request?
    For Example: Rewriting "http://www.test123.com" TO "http://www.test123.com:81"
    Thanks!

    Hi,
    The simple solution is to specify port at rserver level to the desired port. In your case it should be like this :
    host1/Admin(config-sfarm-host)# rserver SERVER1 81
    this is from the documentation which explain the same:
    Associating a Real Server with a Server Farm
    You can associate one or more real servers with a server farm and enter real-server server-farm configuration mode by using the rserver command in either server farm host or server farm redirect  configuration mode. The real server must already exist. For information  about configuring a real server, see the "Configuring Real Servers" section. You can configure a maximum of 16,384 real servers in a server farm. The syntax of this command is as follows:
    rserver name [port]
    The arguments are as follows:
    •name—Unique  identifier of an existing real server. Enter an unquoted text string  with no spaces and a maximum of 64 alphanumeric characters.
    •port—(Optional) Port number used for the real server port address translation (PAT). Enter an integer from 1 to 65535.
    If you choose not to assign a port number for the real server  association with the server farm, the default behavior by the ACE is to  automatically assign the same destination port that was used by the  inbound connection to the outbound server connection. For example, if  the incoming connection to the ACE is a secure client HTTPS connection,  the connection is typically made on port 443. If you do not assign a  port number to the real server, the ACE will automatically use port 443  to connect to the server, which results in the ACE making a clear-text  HTTP connection over port 443. In this case, you would typically define  an outbound destination port of 80, 81, or 8080 for the backend server  connection.
    For example, to identify real server SERVER1 and specify port 80 for the outgoing connection, enter:
    host1/Admin(config-sfarm-host)# rserver SERVER1 80
    host1/Admin(config-sfarm-host-rs)#
    Hope that helps.

    Ajay Kumar

  • ACE http/https redirect or rewrite

    Greetings,
    We have a setup that requires ACE http/https redirection or rewrite.
    A client connects to a secured Web portal which has its ssl termination on the ACE.
    The web portal will request from the client a redirection to another application. As the portal is unaware that the incoming client https request was terminated on the ACE,
    the client receives the redirect request for an unsecured http URL rather than for the secured https URL.
    In this case what would be best to use? ACE "rewrite" or "redirect"?
    Will the following example config for ACE "redirect" be sufficent to implement this?
    ssl-proxy service ssl-App-443-81

  • Null values in Weblogic 7 HTTP Request Parameters

    It appears weblogic 7 handles nulls passed from the request object
              differently than the previous versions. In my jsp's, if a parameter
              was not passed, I used to get a java null value:
              String s = request.getParameter("something_not_passed");
              if(s == null) {
              //do stuff
              Now, weblogic seems to return the string literal "null" so I would
              have to use:
              if(s.equals("null")) {
              //do stuff
              Is this a bug or am I missing something?
              Thanks,

    HI, Thanks for the reply. I am using getString() to fetch values.
    DO u think its due to driver incompatibility?? Because, BEA claims WL7.0 supports

  • How to construct a faces request from a http request?

    I wonder how FacesServlet.service determines whether it should be calling LifecycleImpl.execute in oppose to calling LifecycleImpl.render?
    Basically, I'm trying to construct a http request that would go through the decode method of my UIComponent. However, it seems that my request has always been treated as a non-faces request, where it goes to the render face directly.
    Does anyone know how do I need to construct my http request so that it'll be recgonized as a faces request?
    Anyone knows where i can download the source code for FacesServlet?
    thanks!

    Sorry, are you saying that FacesServlet ALWAYS call execute before render even if it's the first request?
    What I experienced is that for the first request, execute isn't called, and it goes directly to render.
    And if I use the html form submit on the 2nd request, it does go to execute, then render.
    However, if i construct another http request, it'll act like a first request, where it doesn't go through the execute, but striaght to render.
    This is what I set in web.xml:
    <servlet>
    <servlet-name>Faces Servlet</servlet-name>
    <servlet-class>javax.faces.webapp.FacesServlet</servlet-class>
    <load-on-startup> 1 </load-on-startup>
    </servlet>
    <!-- Faces Servlet Mapping -->
    <servlet-mapping>
    <servlet-name>Faces Servlet</servlet-name>
    <url-pattern>/faces/*</url-pattern>
    </servlet-mapping>
    I call my jsp using http://server:8080/faces/my.jsp, and I'm using tomcat 5. Any help would be appreciated.

  • How to pass a HTTP request from a simple java class

    Is it possible to pass an HTTP request from a simple java class.if yes how?

    Is it possible to pass an HTTP request from a simple
    java class.if yes how?If you're talking about creating a HttpRequest object and passing it to a servlet, that would be a red flag to me that your design is flawed. You shouldn't have to do that - the application server (Tomcat, Weblogic, etc) should be the only thing that has to worry about creating that kind of object and passing it to you.

  • Application Web Service Control Manager detected AWEBSVC is not responding to HTTP requests

    Hi,
    We are using SCCM 2012 sp1 cu5 with one primary in the datacenter and a number of local DP's which are presently servicing 200 users, but will rise to 12,000. The Application Catalogue is installed on the primary server.
    Once a day we get the above error and the message id is 8101, and sometimes a user will have to click on install twice, with the first one failing (the ones that fail are normally with dependencies which are quite large in size around 250MB)
    I'm just wondering if this is something I should be concerned about, especially since we will be ramping up user numbers in the next few weeks, and if it could be down to volume of traffic, although the apps are downloaded to the users local DP.
    Also, does this design look suitable to service this amount of users, or should I have local application catalogues? The WAN bandwith between the datacenter and the user sites has recently been upgraded and is pretty fast.
    Thanks
    Jaz

    Hi Torsten,
    Message ID is in the SMS_AWEBSVC_CONTROL_MANAGER status log and equates to "Application Web Service Manager detected AWEBSVC is not responding to HTTP requests. The http error is 12002.
    Then, about 1 hr later in the same monitoring log I get Message ID 8102 "Application Web Service Control Manger detected AWEBSVC is responding to HTTP requests.
    At the moment it isn't doing this very often, just once a day at different times normally, but it has also logged this a couple of times as well. I guess it may correspond to multiple users accessing the web portal at multiple times, but wondered if
    anyone else has seen this behaviour and how it was fixed.
    Thanks
    Jaz
