Acrobat Form - SAVE AS ONLY function?

I'm making forms in Acrobat that multiple users will be accessing. Is there a way to set a SAVE AS feature so that the user can only save a copy of the form, not save over the original?

This forum is for the Adobe FormsCentral (formscentral.adobe.com) which is a service that allows you to create, collect and analyze data using an online web form. You should ask PDF related form questions in the Acrobat forums: http://forums.adobe.com/community/acrobat/forms
I'll move your post to that forum so you don't need to retype it. They can help you out...

    I have been creating forms in InDesign and pulling into Acrobat XI Pro to do form fields. My client would like to fill in the PDF form using Reader, save under a different name locally on their device, and redistribute. The problem I have is that, sometimes, they want to redistribute the form as Read Only. I know how to flatten the form on a mobile device, but uncertain how they can do that with a PC or Mac using Adobe Reader. I looked at FormsCentral thinking there might be a solution going that route, but don't believe there is. Any advice?

    FormsCentral won't help with flattening a form. You could set up the form in Acrobat so that the fields are set to read-only, using JavaScript. Not quite the same as flattening but it's the best Reader can do.
    Note that when Reader is used to e-sign a document, it gets flattened, but this won't be possible if you need to Reader-enable the form and under certain other conditions.

  • Broken Reader functionality after getting an Acrobat Form back.

    Hi,
    we have recently run into the problem that several completed Acrobat Forms with enabled extended Reader features (for saving the form from Reader) came back with the Reader features broken:
    The main problem lies in the fact that we set some textboxes to allow multi-line entry and to scroll long text. (We were pretty certain that some users would need more space than there is available).
    This leaves us with a completed form in which only users with Acrobat Standard or Pro can access the complete text entries.
    I tried to reproduce the error but failed. I did use a single line of JavaScript as an page entry event on the first page to turn off the field overlay.
    That's more or less all there's special about the file. At least there seems to be some kind of regularity in the behavior: a second version of the same form from one of the users causing problems was broken, too.
    Unfortunately, I don't know any details on which reader version the users filling out the form have.
    I also can't share the broken foms since the contents are pretty confidential.
    Has anyone else experienced something similar?
    Many thanks and best regards,
    Mike

    Yes, it should be a custom calculate script. Here's a sample one below. It assumes the fields are named "A1", "A2", ..."A23". You will have to change the value of the "row" variable for each script, which is currently set to 2, meaning it should go in the A2 field. This really should be a function in a document-level JavaScript to it can be called by passing the row number or extracting it from the value of event.target.name, but it should get you started. Note that I didn't test it, so it might need some tweaking:
    // Custom Calculation script for row 2
    (function () {
        // Row number of this field
        var row = 2;
        // Get the value of the A column field
        var sVal = getField("A" + row).valueAsString;
        var sVal2;
         // Set this field value to  "O/D" if blank
        if (!sVal) {
            event.value = "O/D";
            return;
        // Scan the previous rows to see if any match this value
        for (var i = 1; i < row; i += 1) {
            // Get the current row value
            sVal2 = getField("A" + i).valueAsString;
            // See if it matches
            if (sVal2 === sVal) {
                event.value = "Deobligate";
                return;
         // No match was found. so set this field value to "Obligate"
        event.value = "Obligate";

  • Auto-populate of SHELL_shellName_shell Upper form DE only functions in one single-instance project shell.  The DE in the BP Upper Form needs to auto-populate in two separate single-instance shells.  How can I get this DE to autopopulate in both?

      The Unifier environment
    contains two single-instance project shells, INF and PBS, and two multiple-instance child project shells, INFS and
    PB.    There is a single instance, non-workflow
    business process, ‘Project Information’ that contains a data element in the
    upper form definition, Project ID.  The Project ID is set to auto-populate from the multi-instance “INFS”
    project shell attribute, which is populated manually.
    Issue:  The auto-populate functionality for the
    Project ID ‘Shell_shellName_shell’ data element within the single-instance
    Project Information BP only functions within one of the shells, either
    INFS or PB, but not both.  The INF and INFS shells are currently deployed
    to production, PB and PBS shell are not.
    It is critical that Project ID ‘Shell_shellname_shell’ data element is populated correctly in the
    Project Information upper form of both shells, INFS and PB,
    because that data element is referenced by multiple business processes and
    integrations.
    The attribute form definitions for both single and multiple instance project shells are identical.  The Project ID utilizes the same data
    element ‘SHELL_shellName_shell’ as is defined in both shell attribute forms
    (INFS and PB).
    The data definition source is a Unifier system-level variable, SYS Shell
    Name (String, 128, Text Box)
    Potential Solutions:
    1. Create a Project ID DE of another data type which can
    be successfully auto-populated from either shell.  Drawback: all BPs and integrations which
    reference Shell_Shellname_shell will need to be rewritten.
    2. Investigate converting the Project Information single-instance
    to a  multi-instance BP, and create a
    separate instance for each single-instance shell type.  Same Drawback as Option #1, but with additional
    rework.  Most likely Project Information
    would have to be recreated as a new BP.
    Not sure that this option would even work.
    3. Create a separate Project Information BP for PB.  Drawback:  Two separate BPs for Project Information would
    need to be created.  All existing BPs
    refer to Project Information, so this option could potentially invalidate the
    ability to use the existing BPs in the PB shell.

    Was it really necessary to post the whole API description?!?
    Locale[] locales = Locale.ENGLISH();ENGLISH is not a method in class Locale, so do not add the braces "( );".
    Also, the constant ENGLISH is not an array, but just a single Locale object.
    You didn't say what your problem was. What do you want to achieve with your program and what is it that you don't understand?

  • How can I click Acrobat Form button from VB (Excel Macro)?

    I may be asking in the wrong forum, but I'm at my wit's end and think just about anyone with VB experience would be able to tell me what I'm doing wrong. Is there a forum for interapplication/ VB/ forms questions?
    Suffice to say, I know very little about VB (or any of the other languages behind the software), but I've adapted code which has allowed me to get almost everything I need done, thus far.
    I'm trying, desperately, to finalize a Macro which enables me to export a lot of Excel info into individual Acrobat Forms and save them all independently. This all works fine, but there is one last thing I've not been able to accomplish: I need to remote click (or 'focus on') a button in the Acrobat form in order to select the icon button (dynamically set image relevant to each individual form, base on excel cell). The button's name, in Acrobat, is 'Photo1' and it is located on the 3rd page of the form. I've several SendKeys commands in order to save each file with a unique, row specific name.

    I'm pretty sure one of many issues is that I don't know the fully-qualified name of the field/button, or how to properly identify it in the Macro.
    I have no doubt that my approach, if it's even possible, is clumsy and unfounded, but I am (obviously) flailing around for anything that can achieve clicking this confounded button. Any help appreciated.

    It was a button option - I haven't got access to Acrobat 8 here at home, but it was something like
    Add menu item
    File - attach to email
    When the button was clicked, the email application would open with a new email and the PDF would be attached, so you could enter the recipients email address and send.

  • Best practice for read-only functionality

    Hi,
    I'm part of the development team of a system with about 100 screens. The customer would like us to add some read-only functionality to the system, so that certain users are able to access the screens but not change any of the data on them. We already have policies in place on the database level that keeps read-only users from saving data, but it's not very user friendly to allow users to change data on a screen, only to tell them that they're not allowed to save those changes once they try to do so. It would clearly be better if all components are rendered as read-only components for read-only users, making them unable to make any data changes in the first place.
    User privileges in the system are controlled by roles defined and set in the system (not ADF roles or Weblogic roles). At any given time and place, it's possible to check whether the current user has a certain role. We already use this in a number of places to make it possible to control which user has access to which screens. In a few places we even control which functionality should be enabled for the current user within a screen, but mostly the access control is currently on the screen level. With read-only users getting access to all screens, it seems we will need lot of extra in-screen access control to keep these users from changing anything.
    But what's the best practice here? One way to go would be to add some logic to every single active component on every single screen, to determine whether it should be rendered as active or disabled/read-only. But that would require a lot of extra coding.
    So my question is: Is there a smarter way to do this? Maybe something done through skinning? Or something else?
    (I'm not sure how relevant this is for this sort of question, but we're currently using JDev 11.1.1.4.0, and expect to upgrade to 11.1.1.6.0 within the next 6 months)
    Best regards,
    Andreas

    Hi Guna, Puthanampatti and Don,
    Thanks a lot for your replies. I'm currently looking into implementing something along the lines of what Guna has suggested:
    Our application consists of a number of individual work spaces that are deployed as adflibs which have all been added to a "master application work space", and the master application is deployed as an .ear file. Most of the individual work spaces are for all the different functional areas of the application, with their own task flows, page fragments etc. The rest are work spaces with common functionality, like datamodel (entity definitions), utility methods, page templates, and framework extensions. In the latter, we have defined custom classes for all the base classes (somewhat similar to what Don describes, I believe).
    In our custom class for ViewRowImpl, I have added an isAttributeUpdateable method, and in our custom class for ApplicationModuleImpl I have added an isReadOnlyUser method. The isAttributeUpdateable method uses the isReadOnlyUser method to determine if the current user is a read-only user or not; if the user is a read-only user the isAttributeUpdateable method will return false, otherwise true. The isReadOnlyUser method in our base class is just a dummy method that always returns true. But in the ApplicationModuleImpl classes of our individual work spaces, i've written an override for isReadOnlyUser, giving the answer that is relevant for the work space in question (for instance, whether or not the current user has the role "User Administrator").
    That pretty much takes care of all input fields in tables and forms, which is a big step in the right direction. This still leaves some work to be done for components that are not directly linked to view object attributes (like buttons), but I guess that can't be helped. Also, there are a few of the work spaces that contain a number of pages that are related to different user privileges (as in: page 1 requires user privilege A, and page 2 requires user privilege B); in these cases I will have to do something different than just writing an override in the "local" ApplicationModuleImpl class.
    @Don: What you describe seems to be pretty close in functionality to what we already have, though your implementation is different from ours. You have used your custom base ApplicationModuleImpl class to keep read-only users from committing changes. We use Virtual Private Database and database policies to the same end: If a user without the required full-access role tries to commit data it will cause a database error, which we then handle in the application (so the user gets a message like "You don't have the required privileges to changes this data", rather than an ORA message). Unfortunately, our customers are not content with this. They want a solution where all input fields and most of the buttons etc. are disabled for read-only users, and that's why I'm looking into the best/smartest way to do this.
    @Puthanampatti: We already use something similar to what you're suggesting. The challenge I'm currently facing is how best to disable/enable components based on the current user's roles, not how to determine and store those roles.
    Best regards,
    Andreas

  • How can I fill in a form, save the form such that it cannot be further altered, and email it as it was saved?

    How can I fill in a form, save the form such that it cannot be further altered, and email it as it was saved?  I created a form with 5 fields.  It is a form letter that is intended as a receipt for funds received.  I want to fill in the date, name, amount received, etc., save the form with inserted data fields so they can't be further altered, and be able to email it as a complete unalterable PDF document.  What I'm doing now, is filling in the fields, printing it, scanning it, and emailing it as an unalterable document.  The document was created on a Mac using Adobe Acrobat Pro version 10.1.13.  The document is filled in on a PC that only has Adobe reader on it, printed, scanned and emailed as an attachment. There must be a better way!

    If you have access to a ASP.net Web Server, then the submission could be FLATTENED with FDFToolkit.net and emailed without client-side email software by only using Adobe Reader.

  • Saving a reader extended PDF form as read-only

    Before posting this, I've searched for hours in the forums and the internet on how to accomplish this but I just can't find the solution.
    I've created a simple form in Acrobat and saved it with reader extended attributes so it can be saved by my colleagues in Adobe Reader once filled in. The problem now is they need to send these out to customers but in an unfillable state. I'm not sure if this is possible but I'm hoping for a simple solution if anyone could help me out, thanks.

    Create a button somewhere on the form and add the following to the Mouse Up event:
    // Set these fields to read-only
    getField("Text1").readonly = true;
    getField("Text2").readonly = true;
    getField("Check Box1").readonly = true;
    // continue for any other fields
    // Hide this button
    event.target.display = display.hidden;
    Only use the actual field names that you're using in your form. The users should be sure to save to a new file, and I would suggest that they set the blank form to read-only via the file system so they don't accidentally overwrite it.

  • How can i get the order form to display only those fields selected by user?

    Hi everyone,
    I'm a newbee so please bear with me.
    I would like to create an interactive form in a multi-page format. I would like to display our fifty odd products, divided into 5 different categories. The client browses through these pages then selects those that he wants to buy.
    The interactive order form at the end should display only the client’s choices along with the Total purchase order.
    In short, a little like a on-line catalogue and cart/basket that we see while buying online.
    Now, I've created my pdf brochure, and I have the order form on page 12-13 at the end with the subtotal, Vat and Total ...all that's fine. My only problem is I want the order form to display only those items selected by the user and not the entire list of items as shown in my current order form.
    Have a look at my pdf here http://www.upperside.fr/vijee/mpls09ex/EXHIBITOR%20SPECIAL%20ORDERS2010.pdf
    Can someone please help me/guide me to the right resources that I need to look up to achieve my end result.
    Thanks a lot in advance.
    Vijee

    The poster already posted at the Acrobat Users Community, Interactive Forms that sums up a client order from catalog. The sample form posted to Acrobat.com was a revision of the sample form that came with Acrobat 4.0. There are some fairly advance scripts, templates, and document level functions involved with this form.

  • Adding attachments to an Acrobat Form

    Dear All, I hope you can help.
    I have created an Acrobat form on a Mac using Acrobat XI ver 11.0.03.  Once I distribute the form I need the user to add an attachment (.pdf .xls etc) and then email it back.
    I thought Form Central would be a perfect solution, however having paid my subscription, I couldn't find the function anywhere. I then searched the forums only to find that Form Central can't deal with attachments.  Back to the drawing board!
    Now being forced to distribute the form manually (by email), I still need to allow users to add the documents above.  I am aware of the add attachment in the left menu item, but ideally I would like users to simply click on a button that opens a finder window to allow them to add attachments.
    I would really appreciate your help on this.
    Many thanks,
    J.

    The type of thing you want is possible, but if it needs to work with Reader the document must be enabled by LiveCycle Reader Extensions so it includes the embedded file usage right.
    The best you can do with a file that's been Reader-enabled with Acrobat is to manually attach a file as a comment. A button can be used to display instructions, but that's it. There is also the licensing restrictions that come into play when you enable with Acrobat.

  • Acrobat Form email submit

    Hi
    Just wondering if it is possible to have a form created in acrobat 8 pro emailed back once complete? I only seem to be able to print the form them fax. not ideal...
    Thanks in advance
    A

    Depends on how many uses you need.
    If under 500, you can enable usage rights for Reader users in the "Advanced" menu.
    They'll then be able to fill out the form, save it, then attach it to an email to you.

  • 'Two stage' Acrobat Form & Licensing

    Hi, All
    I'm pondering how a 2 stage Acrobat form might work in practice, and whether there would be any licensing issues.
    1st Stage/Person
    Details of form completed by first person. PDF is saved, and passed on to 2nd person.
    2nd Stage/Person
    2nd person checks validity of form and signs it. PDF is saved.
    The issues are whether it's possible to only complete part of a form before saving it. In particular, what about the signature field? Would Reader baulk at an uncompleted signature field?
    Is it possible to have the signature field inactive during the 1st stage, only becoming active after the 1st stage fields have been completed, and the PDF saved? Would that constitute 'modifying the document'?
    Can you do all this with Reader, or is something else required? I mean form completion, not creating the forms.
    MTIA
    David

    All of this can be done with Reader, but in order to allow Reader to save the form after the 1st persion (per your workflow description) has completed their portion, the form would need to be Reader Enabled.  In order to Reader Enable a form, you need Adobe LiveCycle Reader Extensions Server.

  • How to Disable Save and Save a Copy functions in a PDF file

    I would like to know how to disable the Save and Save a Copy functions. I have a client that does not want the ability to save for there customers. I also need to make sure that it can not be changed by there customer.
    Any suggestions would be greatly helpful.
    Thanks
    Andrew

    Once the PDF is viewed on a machine it is already saved there. That is why it is not possible. The only option is to not allow folks to have the PDF at all. You can disable the ability to copy information from the PDF or use SAVE as to put it in a different form without the security. Those are the security features that are available, but with the caveat that many 3rd party products ignore the PDF security and thus your efforts are not warrented if you want true security. The only way to get full security is through a fancy online (and costly) solution.

  • Acrobat Forms for iPad end user

    I am creating a multipage selection document for a client. My client would like the form to work with Acrobat Reader on the iPad. I have several features that work on my computer but not on the iPad. I have a few buttons set up to perform actions that don't function.
         1. The submit button doesn't appear at the top of the form (neither does the highlight fields button). I placed a secondary Submit Form button. The function of this is to submit completed form back to my client.
         2. How do I make the text flelds show up once typed in? Right now, you can type in them but once you are finished, the text field seems empty when you click off of it?
    Anyone have any ideas on fixing these issues?
    Thanks for your help!

    The Adobe product is Mobile Reader and the Adobe product and all PDF reading processing apps are dependent upon the capabilities of the mobile device. Since the Apple mobile devices and the android mobile devices have limitations as to main and secondary storage space support applications like JavaScript and Flex/Flash might not or as is the fact is not available. Not only is the UI different but also the support for many interactive features are no longer available and developers need to test forms on each platform and app to see what works and does not work. Did I mention that not all apps provide JavaScript emulation? Well there are apps for which form calculations do not work or only partially work. So again you need to test.

  • Fillable PDF Forms From Read Only PDF

    Hello,
    I am using Pro to create Fillable Pdf Forms From Read Only Pdf, I have produced a document of sorts but am a bit concerned that I could not create vertical fillable boxes and want more information on the colour of the fillable boxes. Any guidance would be very welcome, am going the right route on this, should I be using something on the acrobat site.  Thanks for considering this.
