ActionEvent.getActionCommand() not found

Folks,
I downloaded the Sun Java System Application Server Platform Edition 8.0 (build b57-fcs). I am trying out to implement a sample ActionListener.
The compiler is complaining "method getActionCommand() not defined in ActionEvent".
I have the jsf-api.jar as well as jsf-impl.jar in the build.xml for the classpath.
I also extracted these jar files and ran javap on the ActionEvent.class, to my surprise there is no public method by name getActionCommand().
Has anybody encountered such problem? Am I missing anything?
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks
Sri

    I think you should double click on that notice to jump to the line of code which supposedly is faulty and inspect it. The UI editor is a bit 'buggy' and sometimes displays strange notices while the application compiles just fine. You should try to upgrade to 9.0.3 as I believe those notices are mostly fixed in that version.

    Bet you're trying "java JournalFrame" when you need to "java JournalApp".
    Couple pointers toward good code.
    1) Use white space (extra returns) to separate your code into logical "paragraphs" of thought.
    2) Add comments. At a minimum a comment at the beginning should name the file, state its purpose, identify the programmer and date written. A comment at the end should state that you've reached the end. In the middle, any non-obvious code should be commented and closing braces or parens should have a comment stating what they close (if there is non-trivial separation from where they open).
    Here's a sample:
    // JournalFrame.java - this does ???
    // saisoft, 4/18/03
    // constructor

    How would I put all the event handling methods in an inner class and I have another class that just that is just a main function, but when i try to run the project, it says main is not found. Here are the two classes, first one sets up everything and the second one is just main.

    and so on........
    what's the reason he don't fount this variables??? the KnopHandlers are a subclass fromm Applet so I don't understand the subclass can't find the variables....
    sorry for this stupid question, but I just started with making Object Orientated code.

    moi,
    Ten eerste is Knop1Handler geen subclass van Applet maar van Object. Alle classen erfen van object of een subclass van Object.
    Ik neem aan dat Knop1Handler een aparte class is in een apart bestand. Dan kan hij nooit attribute van Applet1 gebruiken. Dat gaat enkel via inner classes.
    Je kan verschillende dingen doen:
    je maakt de Knop1Handler class een inner class wat in dit geval de mooiste oplossing is.
    je verplaatst Font opmaak1 naar class Knop1Handler.
    je maakt Font opmaak1 static en roept in class Knop1Handler Applet1.opmaak1. wat een slechte oplossing is

  • "method (...) not found in class (...)" problem

    I am having trouble with my GUI class not recognizing methods from a STACK class from the same package. Here's the skinny:
    I have a GUI class named WordGUI.
    I hava a STACK class named WordStack.
    within WordGUI I instantiate an instance of a WordStack and call it myStack. Example below:
    WordStack myStack = new WordStack();
    When I call WordStack methods from WordGUI I get the error message even though display is a method from WordStack:

    Complete code for both classes is below:

    JPEGImageEncoder isn't a JMF class...so this isn't a JMF question. You need to go to the appropriate forum, which would be Java2D, I believe.
    Also, is there a specific reason you're not just capturing from your web camera directly?

  • Input/Output And Method Not Found Problem

    Ok so firstly I think I should apologise on two fronts.
    Firstly, 'cause this is probably posted in the wrong board but I'm not sure this was suitable for the Swing board just 'cause I've been using Swing? And secondly 'cause the code I'm gonna post is so shoddy I would think this constitutes as flaim-bait. >_>
    In my defense this is purely for a little class project to give something to write some documentation on so I'm really not too bothered about the efficiency or ace-mazingness of the end result. I just want it to work.
    To the problem at hand.
    I'm trying to write a program that asks the user a question and then outputs their answer to a file, from which a tally of answers can later be made for the purpose of displaying "results".
    My problem is I've been having problems with the input/output of saving the answers given to the program.
    I'm still learning and input/output is probably my weakest subject (other than, y'know, being good at Java). I've had a bash at it in the following code but all it does it overwrite what is in the file with a single answer so no list of results accumulate. I generally don't have an idea what to try for that one so any pointers would be appreciated.
    Also, my second problem is, in trying to gather results by tallying what is contained in the file, I've run across a problem with the charAt() method not being found and I'm not sure why. Isn't that method a part of java.lang?
    Here's the code thus far:

    Oh, and in trying to work with it a bit further I realised I'm having a few problems with runtime errors due to exceptions. The first was due to the array being assigned out of bounds (fixed in the above code). But the second reads the following:
    Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NullPointerException
         at Loadingsaving.load(CaseStudy.java:330)
         at QuizResults.(init)(CaseStudy.java.259)
         at GUI.(init)(CaseStudy.java:34)
         at CaseStudy.main(CaseStudy.java:15)Not quite sure what this one means or how to handle it. =\

    A NullPointerException means a method has been called on a null object, or a variable that isn't pointing to any object. Your Exception points to line 330, which is:
    length = s.length();A NPE on that line means that s is null. So let's look at where s is set:
    if (br.readLine() == null) return answerarray;
    else s = br.readLine();s gets it's value from br.readLine(), so that method must be returning null. You have a logical error here. Look at your If-Else. It reads a line, makes sure it isn't null...then it reads another line. Well what if that line is null? You are performing 2 reads here instead of 1.
    Since your If condition returns a value, there's no need for an Else. The code will continue on until it reaches another return. Try this:
    s = br.readLine();
    if (s == null) return answerarray;

    You are passing a String. A String is not an instanceof the URL class. Look at the java.net.URL class. Dear BBrita,
    I looked at the URL class in the Java API and did not find anything that told me how to pass the URL
    "c:/Program Files/Cakewalk/Cakewalk Pro Audio 9/seashore.wrk"
    which is stored on my hard drive.
    Thank you in advance

  • Com.sun.* Not Found only in NetBeans - Javac finds them fine!

    I am not sure what is up with this, but NetBeans will not let me specify anything from the com.* packages. It shows the packages in the auto-type boxes as I type in the name (com.sun.blahblahblah) but highlights the statement with a red underline and states 'Package not found".
    Just to let it be known, I have a look-and-feel demo java file downloaded from the net that compiled perfect and runs as expected, and it makes much use of the com.sun.* packages. And I can run NetBeans with the --laf command line option and it will run using any of the LAF's in the com.* packages itself, but still not see them in the IDE for coding use ><
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.

    I just popped in what you wrote, and another thing just for giggles:
    import com.sun.image.codec.jpeg.JPEGImageEncoder;
    import com.sun.crypto.provider.*;and they threw no errors. Why is it that my laf is throwing errors when they are plainly there?
    Example -
           public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent event) {
             try {
               UIManager.setLookAndFeel(getText());
               SwingUtilities.updateComponentTreeUI(
                 ChangingLaF.this);
               // call myFrame.pack()
               // to resize frame for laf
             } catch (IllegalAccessException e) {
               // insert code to handle this exception
             } catch (UnsupportedLookAndFeelException e) {
               // insert code to handle this exception
             } catch (InstantiationException e) {
               // insert code to handle this exception
             } catch (ClassNotFoundException e) {
               // insert code to handle this exception
             }This is the code I got off the net, this + a bit more to the .java file of course, compiles perfect with javac. The programmer used the package path com.sun.blahblah as the radiobutton text, that is what the UIManager.setLookAndFeel(getText()); getText() nonsense is. But other than that I see no reason an erro should be thrown in netbeans over UIManager.setLookAndFeel(com.sun.java.swing.plaf.motif.MotifLookAndFeel);
    I did try it with quotes though as a previous post recomended and got this message:
    init:
    deps-jar:
    Compiling 1 source file to E:\Java Apps\Calendar\build\classes
    E:\Java Apps\Calendar\src\Main\MainFrame.java:283: unreported exception java.lang.ClassNotFoundException; must be caught or declared to be thrown
    UIManager.setLookAndFeel("com.sun.java.swing.plaf.motif.MotifLookAndFeel");

  • Item cost not found for one or more items - Inventory Posting

    Good Day Mentors,
    My user has encountered an error during Inventory Posting and its "Item cost not found for one or more items".
    The specific Message ID from SAP's System Message Log is 10001287.
    I found a similar post which addresses this error here.
    But unfortunately it did not help me solve my user's problem.
    I already checked if the items had a defined "Item Cost" in the Item Master Data Inventory Tab, and they all have "Item Cost" defined.
    I'm not sure if this will help, but below is the Inventory Audit Report of one of the items that is throwing the "Item cost not found" error.
    I am not a business consultant neither am I literate in accounting, so thanks for the patience.
    SAP Version: 9.0 PL5
    Valuation Method: Moving Average
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Augusto and Raviraj,
    I've already verified in our production database the points you made:
    - Is the "Manage Item cost per warehouse" selected in the Basic Initialization Screen?
    YES
    - Is the "Manage Inventory by Warehouse" ticked/checked in the "Inventory Data" tab of the "Item Master Data" screen?
    YES
    * I apologize for not have been able to give this information upfront.
    Anyway, the database only has one warehouse at the moment.
    I've checked the items, like the item in the screen shot above, and it does have an item cost.
    Below is the screenshot of the sample item from my original post,
    Thanks in advance!

    Can you start QuickTime on your computer?
    You'll probably have to search for the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility and use it to remove QuickTime Player and iTunes. Then download and install the iTunes again.

  • I was updating Firefox from version 6 to version 7, after updating I tried to open Firefox and the message I got is this: This application has failed to start because xul.dll was not found. How can I fix this?

    I was updating Firefox to the newest version 7.0.1 from version 6.0.2 I think it was, I clicked the restart Firefox button that always comes up after updating. It started updating and then Firefox never restarted like it was supposed to after it was done updating. I then tried to open Firefox and it told me "This application has failed to start because xul.dll was not found." I did have Firefox crash on maybe about 30 minutes or so earlier which bothered me because I have been using Firefox for years and never had it crash on me before but I didn't think much of it at the time it happened because I was able to go back onto Firefox and finish what I had been working on. A while later I checked for updates and updated. The first time I tried to update it didn't work though so I had to shutdown Firefox and reopen Firefox and start the update a second time. It was after the second time that when I tried to open Firefox I got that message about failing to start because xul.dll can't be found. I filed a crash report when my Firefox crashed. This would have been around 1am-2am in the morning that Firefox first crashed and then wouldn't allow me to open it after updating. I have a DELL laptop running the Windows XP operating system but the laptop is probably at least 6 or 7 years old. The laptop will no longer charge so I always have to have it plugged into an outlet. Both my laptop hard drive and my external hard drive give me messages that I am running out of disk space on my hard drive. I bought this laptop 6 or 7 years ago second hand so it could be even older. In short it's a piece of crap and it gives me all kinds of issues but I currently can't afford a new one, but I have never had any problems with Firefox and I use Firefox more than any other aspect of my laptop so it's really really bothering me. May you please help me fix it?

    Unfortunately I tried that and it didn't work. Thanks for the help though. I tried to uninstall and it said I couldn't because the file is corrupt or something, but I think I finally got it uninstalled and/or deleted or whatever, but now I try to reinstall/download it again from the beginning and I can't. No matter what I do I can not get Firefox working again. No matter how many times I try to redownload it. Any other suggestions?
