AD Login not working on restart, but only after logout from local user

Using mountain lion 10.8.2 on a 13" mbp retina, that I have successfully bound to AD.
In login options I have ticked the box to show display login window as name and password. It works great on logout, I can enter my AD name and login just fine.
However, on restart, I only see the "circles" of local users, I cannot enter a username of a network/mobile account.
How do I get this thing to give me a real login window on restart, not just logout from another user?

Figured it out - it was file vault. I forgot to enable that user to be able to decrypt the startup disk.

DVD@cess not working on DVD but only simulator

Hello:
Tried many times to get this to work, finally got DVD SP 2 in simulator to automatically open pdf folder when a certain menu is selected...but when I burned a DVD, though the folders are there on the disc (one folder but many pdfs in it), it doesn't launch at all when menu is selected - have to manually click on them after opening the DVD...how can this work correctly? This doesn't work either on MAC or PC.

Thanks very much for the reply - details are... this DVD (called DVD for test purposes) has @ccess enabled in both DVD SP 2 simulator and DVD player on the MAC G5...have 3 menus, home menu has 3 button choices -
•a track
•a menu that should launch the folder with 5 other folders in it, each of them containing 1 to 3 pdfs in them
•one menu that is to launch a web site.
The web site menu DOES launch correctly in simulator on a build/burn of DVD.img...and on the DVD itself.
Problem is - in simulator the link to the one folder with the 5 folders in it (containing 12 pdfs) DOES work, ie the menu launches a pop up window that lets the viewer see the 5 folders available...they could then choose which one to open...However, when build/burn either a DVD.img (on my desktop) or a DVD, though the web site link menu DOES work, the menu with the pdfs folders does not launch either on the G5 or PC laptop.
I understand that the PC business is "if-y" at best, but wonder why even the G5 won't do this?

Why does Time Machine not work over wifi but only via ethernet cable ?

Hi everyone,
It's been some time I have this problem now.
The first time I backed up my mac within Time Capsule with time machine, I chose to use the ethernet cable because the gigabit connection is much faster than the wifi for the first back up, but now, any time I want to update this back up, I need to connect the cable, cause "Time Machine can not connect to the Drive I picked" over wifi.
This is so annoying. Does anyone have a similar issue ?
Any solution ?
When I got this "error" I can use Utility Airport and get full access to the drive, even in finder. The only thing that doesn't work is TimeMachine connecting to the drive, even if it is detected by TimeMachine itself.

Typical Yosemite.
I suggest a full reconfigure of the TC.
Follow this list..
No files are deleted on the TC doing this although you might have to repoint your laptop to the backup.
Note.. even if TM does connect it will say it is going to do a new backup.. it is only when it starts that it discovers the backup exists and increments it.
Start from a factory reset. No files are lost on the hard disk doing this.
Factory reset universal
Power off the TC.. ie pull the power cord or power off at the wall.. wait 10sec.. hold in the reset button.. be gentle.. power on again still holding in reset.. and keep holding it in for another 10sec. You may need some help as it is hard to both hold in reset and apply power. It will show success by rapidly blinking the front led. Release the reset.. and wait a couple of min for the TC to reset and come back with factory settings. If the front LED doesn’t blink rapidly you missed it and simply try again. The reset is fairly fragile in these.. press it so you feel it just click and no more.. I have seen people bend the lever or even break it. I use a toothpick as tool.
N.B. None of your files on the hard disk of the TC are deleted.. this simply clears out the router settings of the TC.
Setup the TC again.
Then redo the setup from the computer with Yosemite.
1. Use very short names.. NOT APPLE RECOMMENDED names. No spaces and pure alphanumerics.
eg TCgen5 for basestation and and TCwifi wireless name.
If the issue is wireless use TC24ghz and TC5ghz with fixed channels as this also seems to help stop the nonsense. But this can be tried in the second round. ie plan on a first and second round of changes to fix this.. hopefully.. I will point out other steps that can be round2.
2. Use all passwords that also comply with 1. but can be a bit longer. ie 8-20 characters mixed case and numbers.. no non-alphanumerics.
3. If the TC is main router you can skip this point. This is only an issue when the TC is bridged.
Ensure the TC always takes the same IP address.. you will need to do this on the main router using dhcp reservation.. or a bit more complex setup using static IP in the TC. But this is important.. having IP drift all over the place when Yosemite cannot remember its own name for 5 min after a reboot makes for poor networking.
4. Check your share name on the computer is not changing.. make sure it also complies with the above.. short no spaces and pure alphanumeric.. but this change will mess up your TM backup.. so be prepared to do a new full backup. Sorry.. keep this one for second round if you want to avoid a new backup.
5. Mount the TC disk in the computer manually.
In Finder, Go, Connect to server from the top menu,
Type in SMB://192.168.0.254 (or whatever the TC ip is which you have now made static. As a router by default it is 10.0.1.1 and I encourage people to stick with that unless you know what you are doing).
You can use name.. SMB://TCgen5.local where you replace TCgen5 with your TC name.. local is the default domain of the TC and doesn't change.
However names are not so easy as IP address.. nor as reliable. At least not in Yosemite they aren't. The domain can also be an issue if you are not plugged or wireless directly to the TC.
6. Make sure IPv6 is set to link-local only in the computer. For example wireless open the network preferences, wireless and advanced / TCP/IP.. and fix the IPv6. to link-local only. Do the same for ethernet if you use it.
There is a lot more jiggery pokery you can try but the above is a good start.. if you find it still unreliable.. don't be surprised.
You might need to do some more work on the computer itself. eg Reset the PRAM.. has helped some people. Clean install of the OS is also helpful if you upgrade installed.

Start from the bottom and work up.. I have a list of good network practice changes but I have avoided Yosemites bug heaven.
Yosemite has serious DNS bug in the networking application.. here is the lets say more arcane method of fixing it by doing a network transplant from mavericks.

Mail.app 4.1 does not work with 10.6.1 after restore from time machine

After I restored my complete system from time machine backup using the original snow leopard install disc. My Mail.app won't start up anymore. It shows me the message:
"You can't use this version of Mail with this version of Mac OS X"
"You have Mail version 4.1 (1076/1075.2). It can't be used Mac OS X Version 10.6.1 (Build 10B504). For more information, click the Help button"
I don't understand the error message as mail 4.1 was installed as part of Mac OS X 10.6.1?

2009-11-03 09:00 PM: Successfully restored complete system on new temporary macbook using time machine with data of my time capsule. Everything looked the same (login image, installed applications, etc...). But when I tried to start Mail.app it gave me the above message.

I've seen two possible solutions to this:
1. Easier, but less likely to work - try to start mail from the Finder, rather than the Dock. If it works, replace the Dock Mail with the Finder one.
2. More probably the solution: download and reinstall the 10.6.1 combo update. I know you shouldn't need to after a TM restore but ...

Unfortunately HP is slow in updating software for Leopard compatibility. If you search this forum you will find some solutions for your problem.
First, check HP's website for the latest software.
I believe that uninstalling your current HP software and either reinstalling it or installing more recent software usually solves the problem.
There was also an issue with Canon scanners.

I personally gave up with HP a while ago, while still using PCs. I switched to Epson and both my Epson printers and my Epson scanner work fine with all my computers, PC and Mac. That was my solution.

MakeDimTask2008 is not working in BPC7.5 MS after upgrading from BPC7.0 MS

We have designed a customized SSIS Package with Make Admin Task 2008. Now this task was working fine in BPC 7.0 MS Version.
At the time of upgrade we found out that , there are 22 Osoft task in BPC 7.5 MS in comparison with 12 Osoft Task in BPC 7.0 MS.
When we are trying to run the SSISpackage in BPC 7.5 MS the MAKE DIMTASK 2008 is failing.
Can anybody throw some light on the same?

In fact, you're right... you'll find 22 tasks to be used in SSIS. But all tasks named with a 2008 at the end are to be used with SQL 2008, and all other tasks are to be used with SQL 2005.
That being said... the make admin task 2008 dll has probably changed from the 7.0 version. So I would suggest you to register all 2008 tasks again (copy from Websvr/bin to DTS/Tasks directory under MS SQL server) and just drag and drop the new registered tasks on your customized package in BIDS.
This should work.

I've just upgraded to Lr3.6 from Lr5.3 on Windows 7 and am unable to export photos or create smart previews. I'm suspecting the catalog hasn't migrated properly in some way but can't work out why. Can anyone help please?

Mavericks Mail not working properly with Exchange server after upgrade from Lion

Mail will no longer maintain a stable connection to my company's Exchange server after upgrading to Mavericks from Lion. Nothing has been changed on the Exchange server. It has only partially downloaded the messages that are on the server. It seems to download current messages when they hit the server. It has difficulty sending messages. When I send a message, it gets stuck in the Outbox. It is constantly losing the connection to the server. The problem is only occuring with Exchange email. My iCloud email works properly as well as a POP3 account.

Trust me when I say this coming from 20 years of experience.
Get a powered external drive, format it 1 Partition Option: GUID and OS X Extended Journed as the format in Disk Utility.
Download and install Carbon Copy Cloner, clone internal drive to external drive.
Set a schedule to remind you to do it at least once a week, keep it near your charger.
When you plug your charger in, do plug the clone and power the machine up, set the display to sleep only,
CCC will do the rest.
If you want to boot from it, hold the option/alt and select it Startup Manager.
I've seen many TimeMachine and TimeCapsule nightmares and so far haven't seen a problem from anyone using a bootable clone.
It's simple, it's easy, it's more reliable and more powerful than what Apple does and it only takes plugging in a extra cable.
Make as many clones as you want, keep them time seperated, off site etc. etc.
Cables don't have network issues, clones can be verified in seconds merely by booting from them.
Clones protect your productivity, your up in seconds on a clone despite even the hard drive dying.
Software problem? No sweat, boot of the clone and reverse clone your problems away.
If you want to fuss and muss with half implemented TimeMachine and TimeCapsule network headaches then prepare to suffer.
I don't like to suffer, I bought a Mac not to suffer, but it appears you do with TimeMachine and TimeCapsule.

Login of my application is not working on testing server only.
It is working fine on Google chrome and firefox, On few machine's which is having IE11, it is working.
but not on IE10,IE9 and all lower version,it's not working.
While Login, we use custom membership provider.
After checking the code, its giving problem with below code.
authenticated = HttpContext.Current.User.Identity.IsAuthenticated;
The above authentication is not working for IE only.(The code is working fine on production server but not working on testing server)
Please guide us on the same.

The code was working before but suddenly it is not working on IE on testing server only. On chrome and firefox its working.
I moved the code on production and integration server, and it is working properly on other server's. I am not getting the issue with testing server. only
on testing server the value of "HttpContext.Current.User.Identity.IsAuthenticated" is getting false after successfull login.

Just just to make sure, you do not see something like this when you try to do a search in Safari?
Try clearing Safari in Settings>Safari>Clear Cookies and data. Then close Safari. Double tap the home button and drag the mini Safari window up toward the top of the screen in the multitasking display in order to close the app. Now reboot the iPad. Hold down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time until the Apple Logo appears on the screen.
Try Safari again.
The Spotlight Search feature on the iPad search) no longer searches the web, that is simply the way that Spotlight works now. Sort of a backwards move IMO but somewhat typical of Apple these days.
