Add multiple smart object images to PS CC? (Win7)

I'd like to be able to load quickly several layers of the same image (all as smart objects) to blend exposures. A recent J. Kost blog entry demonstrates opening such layers directly from Lightroom but she discovers from reader feedback that Adobe never programmed a Windows version of this process that would allow me to open seeveral images in one Photoshop CC document as separate smart object layers.
I have tried to figure out the exact steps to make this happen with Bridge, too. It worked once, but there seemed to be delay in display of the smart object corner icon in the layer thumbnail. That's weird. "Place Image" -- from Photoshop -- seems to work the best.
This is so common to my needs that I am looking for a fast and simple way to build the layers. Has anyone found a work around to do this -- on Windows -- in LR5.3 DIRECTLY to Photoshop CC (updated to 14.2)? I'd do it from Bridge if necessary but spemd all my time in Lightroom for asset management as well as usual post processing.
When I search for this action/technique all I get are demos of opening *linked* smart object layers.
Thanks, in advance,

Photoshop CC

To my knowledge Illustrator does not support smart objects. However it does support image linking. Which means if you update a image in photoshop, Illustrator will know the file has changed.
When placing the file, you will see a checkbox at the bottom of the open dialog box for link, make sure it is checked. When you update the file when Illustrator is running with that file opened, you will get a promt telling you the file has changed and asked you if you want to update the image.
If you choose not to update the image at that time, you can click on the linked file text in the top tool bar and update the image from there.
If the file is not open or Illustrator is not running then the file will update the next time you open the file.
Also you will find a edit original button in the top tool bar to take you back to what ever image editor is assigned to that file format.
To assign a file format to photoshop:
For this example we will use jpeg extention
1) Open windows explorer
2) Menu options tools>folder options>File types tab>scroll to jpeg and click on it
3) Click the advanced tab
4) see what actions are listed odds are only open and printo are listed
5) If Edit is not listed, click on the new button
6) For the action type EDIT
7) For the application used to perform action click the browse button
8) Browse for photoshop.exe
9) The following should now be in the application used to perform action box:
"C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS3\Photoshop.exe" %1
The above file location is assuming you have CS3 and you used the default installation edit original button in Illustrator and the right mouse button menu in windows explorer will take you to photoshop to edit the file.
10) After you click OK you will see the new EDIT action in the list
11) Click OK  and then click close to get out of all the dialog boxes
The action can be removed at any time or edited to use another application.

  • How do i open my multiple smart objects in my psd in one illustrator vector file?

    HELLO
    I have created a psd.
It contains multiple smart objects which when double clicked link you to illustrator.
I would like to open all the vector images from this file in one illustrator file.
    Is this possible?

I guess it might be (almost) possible with Scripting in principle but probably not practically.
    To elaborate:
One could open all the Smart Objects with a Script and with BridgeTalk it should be possible to have Illustrator perform tasks on those.
But one can not, as far as I know, directly access scale, rotation, skew of a placed Smart Object with a Script, so that information would have to be determined with work-arounds or (partially) neglected.
If you need vector output why did you make the arrangement in Photoshop?

  • File Size for Rasterized vs. Smart Object Images

    Hello,
I am scaling smaller images up to the full canvas size for a project (around 200% of original size). I have tried scaling images up as both a smart object, and also converting it to a rasterized layer, then scaling it up. I noticed that almost every time I leave the image a smart object and then scale the image up and save it for web, it is a smaller filesize than if I would convert it to a rasterized layer and then save it for web (sometimes up to 5% smaller). Does anyone know why this happens, or if it is changing the quality of the image by leaving it as a smart object?
Note: I am using very large images, with an original filesize of 1-3 MB.
    Thanks for the help!

EDIT: Just to clarify, I am talking about the JPEG image file size being smaller, not the PSD file size
I do have maximum compatibiliy set for my PSD.
I am saving out all my images for this experiment out as a JPEG at 50% quality. I attached a screenshot of my save for web settings.
I also attached the rasterized image and the smart object image. I also attached the scaled down version of the image, which is what I am scaling up to create the rasterized and smart object images. Let me know if this is what you need to fully examine, and thank you for the help!
    Here is the rasterized image:

  • Is it possible to  add multiples dimension objects in Webi Ranking ?

As per the project requirement we need to convert custom sqls to reporting sql in webi 3.1 sp5 .
Is it possible to  add multiple dimension objects while applying ranking (Webi query panel ).
Or is there any other way to achieve this feature in BO ?
    Regards,
    Pranay

    Hi ,
There is a way if you want to apply ranking within a ranking . Below are the steps:
First on the outer side we can use the Rank feature which is available directly
Then use the Rank Function (=rank ()) and reset your dimension accordingly .
This kind of Ranking is possible.

  • Multiple Smart Objects into existing photoshop file

I need to somehow get bridge to---
Import multiple files into an existing photoshop file (with a predetermined size ) as smart object layers in photoshop.
The options that Bridge currently offers falls short in 2 area
Load Files into Photoshop Layers-- does not import smart objects and creates a new photoshop file that ends up being as large as the largest imported file
Place into Photoshop--only lets you do one at a time
I need "Place into Photoshop" with multiple files
Is there a way to do this?
    Thanks!!

I don't think it is possible, but to be sure drop this question also in the
PS forum if you already have not done so.
Is there a way to do this?
    Thanks!!

  • How can I add a Smart object (button) to a quiz background and have it work?

    Good day,
I have the need to add button to a quiz (in Captivate 6) to allow people to leave the quiz and go back to the start page.
I realize you cant add a normal button to quiz, so I added a smart object converted to a button on the master page.  I have it all set up to go to the page, mouse over shows hand and all of that.
the Captivate runs, I get to the quiz, mouse over it changes to a hand.  I click and it does nothing.  Any ideas why??  Any suggestions on how to do what I want?
    Thank you
    Dave Stabley

    Hi Lilybiri,
I always look to your blog for help.   This time unfortunately it didnt help me.
as I expressed above all I am trying to do is create a button that will do a jump to page with in a quiz.
I have some long quizes in the captivate projects that I create.   Once a person starts a quiz they might realize it is a bit more than they are ready for.  I am just trying to give them a way to click a buttong to get out of the quiz and back to a certain page.
On the master page for the quiz, I created a smart object (rectangle) that is converted to a button it is also transparent and goes over top of a graphic for the button.
I tell it to go to the correct page, and I set it up so that when you mouse over the smart object it shows a hand
When I go to preview this, I mouse over the graphic and get the hand icon, but when I click it goes no where.  It seems to me that the quiz is waitting for an answer before it will accept the click.   The catch is when I give the answer it forgets click and moves on the the next question.
    Any thoughts?
    Thank you

  • CS3 - Bridge Smart Object image to CS3 & Lab Color

I open an (NEF) image in Bridge, do some work, and open the smart object in CS3. When I go to Lab Color I get: “Changing modes can affect the appearance of smart objects. Rasterize smart object before mode change?” I don’t want this, correct?
After I choose “Don’t Rasterize” this dialog window appears: “Merge layers before mode change?” I choose no.
Within Channels (Lab Color) I go to delete “A” & “B” because I just want the Alpha Channel. However, I get “Flatten Layer?” and when I choose “No” I can’t delete “A” & “B.”
    Solution?
    ~ Much Thanks ~

I should say I am trying to learn this software and stumbling through Mr. Kelby's 7 Point System book.
I found my error.  I was highllighting the layers not clicking the eye icons off and on.
    Thanks for all who look.

  • Smart object image has jaggies in swf output

We are using smart objects for buttons in a Captivate 8 project.  The objects have images for the fill.  When we publish a swf file, the default images have jaggies.  The rollover or down images look fine.  The html5 output looks fine.  If I do a preview in the browser the image is fine.
I have tried adjusting all the quality setting with no change.
    Thanks
    John

And how I control to obtain the same result?
    You don’t.
At least with many possible combinations of transparencies and Blend Modes it is impossible to obtain the same result in CMYK as in RGB while maintaing the original Layer structure.
Placed a linked file has a different color result too.
Different from embedded Smart Objects or just different from the flattened image?
To be blunt you probably don’t fully comprehend the principal difference between additive and subtractive colors.
Also are you sure your CMYK space conforms to the specific print process?

  • Replace content of multiple Smart Objects

Here's simplified version of my dilemma: (Photoshop CS5.1)
A file contains 3 instances each of 2 unique Smart Objects. Is it possible to Replace Contents of all 6 objects so that they share a common source content?
    Seems simple. Doesn't work.

The only other thing I can suggest is to post in the Photoshop Scripting forum to see if the scripting wizards there have a script to solve your issue.
(I couldn't script my way out of a paper bag myself.)

  • Ctl-Clicking Keywords to add multiple keywords to images

Ok. Maybe I'm just overlooking something here, but:
I would like to be able to select multiple keywords and drag them onto an image to apply them all at once.
Problem is, when I select the first keyword, it automatically sorts my Library to the images containing it (thus losing view of the image I want to tag.)
In Elements it would only sort when selecting the check box next to the keyword. (Another reason I want check boxes!!!!!!!!!!) Elements would allow you to select multiple keyword tags themselves (without sorting images as you do so) and you could drag all the keywords to an image (or selected images) to apply them at once. How do you do that in LR?
In a similar vein (sp??) I would like to add keywords to the keyword painter by dragging them from my keyword list and dropping them onto the painter entry field. That way I know exactly which keyword is going in, and am not mis-spelling or mis-naming a keyword, or typing one that doesn't exist yet, or is coming from the incorrect hierarchy... and I don't have to type anything in.
If I'm having a brain fart and missing something obvious here let me know.

    >Ok. Maybe I'm just overlooking something here, but:
Perhaps you're overlooking use of right-click context menus...
    >I would like to be able to select multiple keywords and drag them onto an image to apply them all at once
    1. Select the keywords you want to add in the keyword panel.
    2. Right-click one and choose "Use these as Keyword shortcut".
    3. Display the image(s) you want to add them to in the grid and select all of them.
    4. Right-click the selection, and choose "Add keywords..."
It's not dragging, but it works.

    Same idea...
    1. Select the keywords you want to use in the keyword panel.
    2. Right-click and choose "Use these as Keyword shortcut".
    3. Click the painter icon "spray-can" and the keywords are displayed and subsequently used by the painter.
(Translate keystrokes if you are on a Mac.)
There are also keyboard shortcuts for all of this stuff which are actually faster than the right-click menus.
    >If I'm having a brain fart and missing something obvious here let me know.
With due respect, based on your many posts about keywording deficiencies perhaps you are too locked in to the Elements paradigm. Try thinking outside of that box with LR. It has its shortcomings, obviously, but I've found I can get an awful lot done with it by forgetting about the way other applications do things.

  • How to add multiple 3D objects into the same scene (photoshop cs5 extended?

I have about 13 different 3D objects, each on their own layer, and I want them to be able to cast shadows from lights all on the same ground plane. I know the setup for an individual object but when I go to set it up for each one they keep generating their own ground plane and the end result is no where close to where I want them. Does anyone know if this is possible or if there is a workaround? It's vital for this project I'm working on and I can't find any guide for the 3D features in the extended edition that is free.

  • How to correctly add multiple iframe objects?

I'm trying to load multiple iframes inside a symbol. I currently have 3. The way im setting them up goes like this:
I have the iframe codes in the symbol actions:
    iframe code;
    rectangle name;
    iframe code;
    rectangle name;
    iframe code;
    rectangle mane;
Then when i go to load the page, not all of the iframes will load, its random witch ones wont and every third load they will all be fine. Is there a specific way to set up multiple iframes?
you can view what im talking about here www.shawnfrueh.com Under the modeling tab.

I'm not sure that the problem has anything to do with using these iframes in Edge Animate.
I created a test page with just the 3 iframes, and I saw the same issue with that: http://thetraininggrounds.com/3d-test.html
I also noticed the problem intermittently on the p3d site itself, with the model in the "embedding" section of the FAQ: http://p3d.in/faq#embedding
As best as I can tell, the request for the page (i.e. the model) from the server is just timing out. Chrome shows error 324 (empty response). You may want to contact the folks at p3d to report the issue; they may not yet be aware of it.

  • Is it possible to add multiple sound objects to a slide

I am wanting to make slides that contain several "cards". Each card would have a word on it (sight words for elementary students). I'd like to place 2 speech bubble graphics on each card. Students would click one of the bubbles to hear the word read to them (me recording the words). They would click the 2nd bubble if they wanted the word read in the context of a sentence.
Is this possible within Keynote? I know that it's possible within Powerpoint to make any object a sound object--and I believe that I could do more than one on a slide.
However, I've never tried anything like this in Keynote and I'm not sure if it's even possible.
    Any ideas?

Keynote is designed primarily for linear presentations, and really doesn't have any capability to do actions (other than hyperlinks) when an object is clicked. If you wanted each card to play the two recordings in order on each click, then you could do this in Keynote, but if you want the second recording to play only if the students clicks on it, then this isn't really possible in Keynote.

  • Multipage PDF and Smart Object

I'm using Photoshop CS5, and I regularly need to import a multipage PDF into a PSD for processing.  I've setup multiple smart objects in the PSD, each imports a different page of the PDF.  But I've realise that everytime Photoshop imports a multipage PDF, it imports and saves the entire PDF, rather than just the page imported.  This is extremely wasteful for both disk space and processing power/time, especially since the files I work with are all rather large.
So, is there a way to make Photoshop handle this smartly, and make use of multiple PDF pages in one import operation?

I do three things in Photoshop:
    1. add background
    2. apply a glow around the imported vector graphics to enhance visibility
    3. apply an texture overlaying the whole thing
And I forgot to mention before that, in addition to printing, I also need to save the final images into individual JPGs or PNGs for digital preview.
    1. I can do in Illustrator, but I've found that adding any raster content in the AI significantly increases the file size and slows all operations.  So I'm trying to avoid doing this.
    2. and 3. can also be done in Illustrator, but I've found the results to look much better in Photoshop.  Not sure why, it just does...
But even if I do all of these in Illustrator, it does not solve the problem of extremely long operation time, since I will still need to eventually export the artboards into separate files.  Illustrator does the same thing as Photoshop when exporting: it rasterizes the entire file and then cut them down to each artboard, which, again causes the operation time to grow exponentially as artboard increases.
    EDIT:
I have also tried exporting the rasterized image as one single image, and then slice them up in Photoshop.  Unfortunately, the AI file is so big that Illustrator cannot export them as one rasterized image.
I also prefer to minimize batch operations in Illustrator.  A long batch operation in Illy will prevent me from doing anything for tens of minutes, whereas I can continue to work on different things in Illustrator while Photoshop is running a batch operation.
