Adding a java applet in Apex page

Hello, I am trying to add a java applet to my page. This is what I do. I create an html region with source ;
<applet width=300 height=300 codebase="#WORKSPACE_IMAGES#DrawingLines.class"></applet>
and I upload DrawingLines.class file as a static file.
When I run the page I see the java cup sign (with running circle around) but not the applet. Does this have to do anything with the browser security? My knowledge of Java is very limited, but I thought this should work.
George

I just feel like I have to answer this and I hope this is the last post in this thread.
"I find it amusing that you have come to this forum demanding free technical support, and have posted over 200 times, but you yourself have never once answered somebody's question and gotten a helpful or correct reward"
First of all, I have helped people on a few occasions , I don't know what kind of "helpful or correct reward" you are referring to but yes I have given useful answers and gotten "thank you" from a few members.
Second, most of my posts are from year or more ago when I was learning Apex, I have very few posts in the last 6-12 months.
Third, if nobody asks the questions then there will be no answers => there will be no forum. The very existence of this forum is based on people asking question so why should I be ashamed to "demand free technical hellp", isn't this what most people are doing here?
The rest of your post is just words pretty much not saying anything (you might wanna try a carier in the politics) so I am not going to address it.
Have a wonderful day.

    2)-ve to Red
    2)rest s to Black

                ELSE TO_CHAR(col2)
           END col2
    FROM   src_data
    But the problem i am getting is not able apply to the Sum rows(because it happening by using Apex page feature)
    so i want go for Java ScriptsRegards
    Amu

    Hi Amu,
    I don't know if that's the best way to do it, but that's how i handle this:
    I usually copy the report template and name it for the specific region. Then I change it by customizing "After rows" specially for the report, adding something something like:
    <tr>
    <td colspan = "2" class="data" style="text-align: left; font-weight: bold;">Sum</td>
    <td class="data" style="text-align: right;"><div id="port_total"> </div></td>
    <td class="data" style="text-align: right;"><div id = "port2_total"> </div></td>
    <td class="data" style="text-align: right;"><div id="port3_total"> </div></td>
    </tr>I calculate the totals in hidden items on my page and then check them in my javascript and display them in the corresponding <div>s, adding style for the positive and negative colours. Something like
    document.getElementById('port_total').innerHTML = $v('P1_PORT_TOTAL');
    if($v('P1_PORT_TOTAL') > 0) {document.getElementById('port_total').style.color="green";}
    if($v('P1_PORT_TOTAL') < 0) {document.getElementById('port_total').style.color="red";}Regards,
    Vlad

  • Applet on Apex page

    Those anyone know if I can run an applet on an Apex page? I've placed the <applet> tag in an apex html region but I keep getting the same exception(ClassNotFoundException). I don't know where to place the applet .class file.

    You can indeed use applets. In a nutshell, do the following:
    1. Upload your applet's class file into Apex as a "static file". See Shared Components \ Files \ Static Files
    2. In your web page, create an html region with source that includes your applet tag. For the "code" attribute, which points to the .class file, make sure to use the special prefix Apex provides for static/image content something like this: <applet ... code="#APP_IMAGES#myclass.class" ...>
    If you need more than one .class file, it would probably be easier to put them all in a .jar file and upload that instead (and use the archive= applet attribute)
    Let me know if these instructions help or if more detail would help you.
    Cheers,
    Eric

  • Call iexplore.exe from apex page

    I have a requirement to have a link from my main application apex page to invoke a client windows os command 'iexplore.exe -noframemerging' (I think this ie option used to be -nomerge). The idea is, this will fire up a separate IE8 session in a separate browser session, thus partitioning it from any other IE sessions. I know in IE8 there is a 'New Session' menu option but we need a link that is more obvious/integrated within our application. Our idea is to "persuade" users to click this link in preference to 'New Tab' or 'New Window' option.
    Now, my quandary is how to do this. Should I be calling a Java Applet from the page (via Javascript) but is this "sand boxed" and thus will not let me call an executable for security reasons ?
    Obviously I would also like to cater for users running Firefox (which I presume could detect in javascript and pass the browser type into the applet).
    Is this sane, Is there any other way ?
    Any advice would be appreciated or has someone already been down this road and could give me some pointers or an example.
    Thanks in anticipation.

    Our corporate application already has calls to similar executables (ie MS Word, Excel) to do letter merges, document transfers etc using signed Java libs on the backend server. I suppose this requirement is different as I'm wanting to run an executable on the client pc. So, are we saying it is not possible to run an 'iexplore.exe' on the client PC (using a signed Java applet) ?

  • How to run a Java applet on a website.

    Hi,
    I am trying to run the code below [DrawLines.java|http://www.dgp.toronto.edu/~mjmcguff/learn/java/01-drawingLines/]

    on my website . I compiled it using JDK1.6.0_21 on Windows 7 and generated DrawingLines.class (My site is hosted on a linux server, is this an issue since it was compiled on Windows?)
    I created a html file:
    <applet width=300 height=300 code="/shanegibney/classes/DrawingLines.class"> </applet>Then I created a new folder called 'classes' in my public directory.

    I believe it's interpreting some of the code attribute as a path. Try this:
    <applet width=300 height=300 codebase="/shanegibney/classes/" code="DrawingLines"> </applet>

  • Java Applet in a HTML page: failing with PLS-00306: wrong number of args

    We are trying to use a Java Applet in a HTML page. as our system needs to be able to retrieve a predefined set of data from a third party system that uses Dynamic Data Exchange Protocol (DDE) and are encountering errors from APEX and in IE itself.
    We are using JavaDde from www.nevaobject.com that enables our Java applet to interact with Windows applications (Third Party System) using DDE.
    This functionality is currently used in our Web Form 6i application and we are trying to use the same in the new ApEx application.
    We are using ApEx version : 2.1 and actually aer encountering 2 problems:
    Problem 1: ApEx failing with PLS-00306: wrong number or types of arguments in call to 'ACCEPT'
    Problem 2: IE crashes if Applet used in a complex page with several regions (1 Context, 4 Report Regions, 2 level Tabs, Links)
    This problem does not occur in the page where there is only applet and one region. In the case of complex page the IE crashes if the page is reloaded
    Test scenario:
    1- Create a simple page with the HTML region.
    2- Define the Source of the above region as follows
    <OBJECT CLASSID="clsid:8AD9C840-044E-11D1-B3E9-00805F499D93"
    CODEBASE="http://java.sun.com/products/plugin/autodl/jinstall-1_4-windows-i586.cab#version=1,4,0,0"
    WIDTH="1"
    HEIGHT="1"
    ID="simpleApplet"
    NAME="simpleApplet">
    <PARAM NAME="code" VALUE="simpleApplet.class" >
    <PARAM NAME="archive" VALUE="simpleApplet.jar" />
    <PARAM NAME="type" VALUE="application/x-java-applet;version=1.4">
    </OBJECT>
    3- Create a simple Java applet "simpleApplet" - for the test its enough if the applet will have just the init method printing out the mesage to the console
    4- Create a Submit Button (not redirect) in Region Header and create unconditional (do not set When Button Pressed property) Page Branch to navigate to another page (the page without the applet)
    6- Run the page and Submit -
    The error below is returned by the engine:
    In our case our applet is called ddeApplet - I do not know why is ApEx passing the Applet's ID down to the wwv_flow.accept method as a parameter

  • How to call Java Applet on a Oracle Portal page

    I have completed the below steps to add an Java Applet class file to the Oracle Portal.
    1. On the Portal Builder page, click the Navigator link.
    2. Click the Database Objects tab.
    3. In the Name column, scroll down to the schema in which you want to build the 4. object.
    5. Click the schema's name.
    6. Click Create New...Java Object.
    7. Click Java Class.
    8. Complete each wizard page until you reach this page.
    9. Granted PUBLIC access.
    I have created an html portlet on page an added:
    <applet class ="XXCPORT.MyJavaApplet">
    </applet>
    However, it does find the applet when I view the page. Is there some additional path or parameters I need to add?

    If you are asking if you can execute an external process (application/applet) from another application/applet - the answer is yes and no.
    Yes. If you have the security settings/policy to do so.
    No. This may require a security policy to be allowed - as an applet.

  • Referencing a "locally installed" Java applet from a server-based HTML page

    How does one reference a "locally installed" Java applet from a server-based HTML page (i.e. via the applet, object, or embed tags)? I have seen references in documentation that this is possible, but I have not seen any examples. I have tried a few things, but nothing seems to be working.
    Some background...
    I'm working on a web site that aggregates Internet video. For many users, I would like the site to work "without" requiring Java to be installed (or any prompts, etc.). This version of the site allows users to stream videos directly over the Internet and does not require any sort of access to the local system.
    However, in addition, I have a download manager that can be installed on the local system. Currently, it's a Windows-based "service" that is always running in the background, downloading files, etc. (with plans to later support other OSes).
    My dilemma is trying to communicate between my web site running in the local browser (executing JavaScript code) and the download manager. I call this component the "gateway". I need the gateway to be able to do the following:
    1) Pass user credentials from the web browser UI to the download manager (so it can communicate with my servers).
    2) Check the status of downloaded videos
    3) Launch a local media player (such as Windows Media, QuickTime, etc.) (or perhaps tell the download manager to launch the media player).
    Under Windows XP, I have an ActiveX control that can do these things. It communicates with the download manager via reading/writing to a shared XML configuration file.
    Unfortunately, under Vista and IE7 Protected Mode, ActiveX controls have become very restricted and my gateway no longer works. As such, I am looking at using Java for the gateway (also giving me the additional benefits of supporting additional browsers and OSes).
    From my understanding, I believe I can created a "face-less" Java applet, whose methods can be called from JavaScript. Ideally, I'm thinking I could install the applet onto the local system at the same time the download manager is installed. This would give the applet the security permissions it needs to communicate with the download manager.
    Thanks for any help and suggestions!

    Hi,
    Put the .jar file and the .class file in the path mentioned in one of the aliases in the plsql.conf file like /images or create
    a seperate directory and create an alias like /applets "path" in the plsql.conf file.

  • Problem Running a java applet from an HTML page

    I can run my applet at the command prompt with:

    But when I try and open the Coffee.html by opening
    the page in Internet Explorer I get the following message:
    Can't find Database driver class: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver
    Code: createcoffees.java
    import java.applet.*;

              } catch(java.lang.ClassNotFoundException e) {
                   System.err.print("ClassNotFoundException: ");
                   System.err.println(e.getMessage());
              try {con = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:odbc:hq","afm", "afm");

                   con.close();
              } catch(SQLException ex) {
                   System.err.println("SQLException: " + ex.getMessage());
    }

    Is your jdbc-odbc driver properly loaded? Its very clear that its a class not found exception which is thrown by this:
    try {Class.forName("sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver");
    } catch(java.lang.ClassNotFoundException e) {
    System.err.print("ClassNotFoundException: ");
    System.err.println(e.getMessage());

  • So I can update my Oracle Java Applet Plug-in to Development Kit 7, Update 65, can you link me to the correct Oracle download page from your Plugin Update page?

    When I periodically accessed your Plugin Check and Updates web page in the past, I really appreciated you connecting me to the correct Plugin Updates vendor web page when I clicked on your red Update Now button. This time, however, your Java Applet Plug-in "Update Now" button linked me to the Oracle Java "7u65 Updates Release Notes" instead of the usual download page. It seems rather unexpected for me, or any other conscientious user for that matter, to search the appropriate "JDK 7U65" file download from the Oracle website.
    Thank you,

    This is getting way too complicated for normal peop.
    First: the "Update Plugin" does not work, it goes to a page with all sort of computer jargon but no "Update button" anywhere.
    Second: this forum jscher2000 gives a good solution, but I downloaded the incorrect java update, because my computer is 64 bit. how am I supposed to know my browser is what it refers to and that FF is 32 bit.....???$%^&*()??
    Third: some of those "critical update" software are not even on my computer....well at least I don't think it is, I search for "shockwave" and did not find it.
    I love Moz FF but the updating is starting to get out of control. why give us (computer idiot) an auto recommendation update not tailored to our computer? Perhaps in big letters at the top there should be an explanation "this is general suggestion these plugin needs updating, not to tailored with your computer, do your own research"
    and/or add info I need to know like the 32 bit thing, took me forever to download the 64bit update for JAVA and it was the wrong one.
    Now I am just afraid to update anything for FF because it is too darn confusing.

  • Embedded Java Applet NullPointerException in JSPX pages

    We have a ADF web application programmed in JDeveloper 11g (11.1.2.4.0), which was migrated over from a 10g (10.1.3.5.0) project
    Within the application, occasionally, we need to call a Java Applet which is placed in a public_html/applet folder. The jars show up in the Web-Content tab of the ViewController in the Application Navigator, just like it did in 10g.
    The applet tag looks like this:
    <applet height="100" width="100" code="applet.SetupApplet" archive="applet/SSetupApplet.jar">
                <param name="debug" value="true"/>
    </applet>
    I've also tried calling the applet with the Java deploy applet script
    <trh:script source="http://java.com/js/deployJava.js"></trh:script>
        <trh:script>
            var attributes = {code:'applet.SetupApplet',
            archive:'applet/SSetupApplet.jar'};
            var parameters = {} ;
            var version = '1.6' ;
            deployJava.runApplet(attributes, parameters, version);
       </trh:script>
    When I navigate to the login.jspx page that has this tag, it pops the Java Console open, but doesn't actually run the applet (or show the prompts to allow using the Applet). Instead, the applet is shown with an error and the error says "NullPointerException". I've double-checked the path and it's correct (with incorrect paths, I get a ClassNotFoundException). In the application server logs, I see the following error:
    <Warning> <Socket> <BEA-000449> <Closing socket as no data read from it on IPADDRESS during the configured idle timeout of 5 secs>
    I created a normal .jsp file that's outside the ADF Faces Context in the applet folder. Navigating to it with the same applet tags does have the Java applet run without the socket error. The same code in 10g works fine.
    Is there anything I'm missing?
    Thanks.

    This page contains content of “application/x-java-applet” type. You do not have the plug-in required to view this content.
    Please help me out on this....

    I am also having a problem with this. My website is hosted through "www.onlinepictureproof.com" and now that my laptop is back from repair with OS X 10.6.8 I am unable to upload my photos to my work website. It says "a plug-in is needed to display this content. Install plug-in" and then a window pops up that says "no suitable plug-ins were found".  Below that is "unknown plug-in (application/x-java-applet)" with a link to "manual install" which takes me to "http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/index-jsp-141438.html#download" which just leaves me lost. I've tried downloading the "JRE" but I have zero idea what that means or if Im downloading the proper thing. Once I click on the "download JRE" it brings me to a download page where there are WAY too many items for me to choose from to download, when I have no idea what I need or why I need it. please help, this is driving me insane. I actually preferred my constantly crashing laptop to the state its in now, "like brand new" back from apple repair...I have already updated everything that is promted through "Software Updates".
    "OnlinePictureProof.com" only directs me to apple support.
    Thank you for any help you can offer!
    Sheila
