Adding an empty tag with jaxp

hi,
I'm trying to add an empty tag using jaxp.
The code i'm using is:
Element test = document.createElement("test");
root.appendChild(test);
The result of this is this xml-string:
<root>
<test></test>
What I want as result is somthing like this:
<root>
<test/>
Can anyone tell me what I have to do?

Can anyone tell me what I have to do?hmm; for my latest project i made my own class to do all the xml - it's quite basic (ie; easy to implement) and doesn't do any validation, it basically has 3 methods: set, toString & getXML(). i'm not sure this is what you're looking for, but if you wish i could post the source code or email it to you.

Unfortunatelly, the j2s-xmlAdapter-field example available with JAXB 2.0 is more complicated than I need. I just need to store/load HashMap into/from XML and I do not care what it looks like. Is it possible to avoid extending XmlJavaTypeAdaptor for a simple storing a HashMap into XML? Perhaps I use improper annotations in the source code, but I cannot get it working. Any clue?

Ok i figured out one way of doing this by using some classes from JAXP...

XQuery Mapper - leave out tags with empty values, how to?

Hi everybody,
I am using the XQueryMapper to map 2 XML schemas and get an output for a Webservice but I am unable to get rid off the tag elements that are empty (i.e. there is no content within the tag).
For example:
If my output is:
<customer>
<first_name>John</first_name>
<last_name></last_name>
<title></title>
<company>1BRN</company>
<customer>
What I would like to obtain is:
<customer>
<first_name>John</first_name>
<company>1BRN</company>
<customer>
What do you have to do to avoid that? If I do NOT use XQuery then that happens as a default behaviour.

I found the solution to the problem. To avoid getting tags with no content the way to do it is defining properly your schema. Just adding minOccurs="0" if the element is optional, when it returns with no content, it does not come up in the output.

XQuery builds different constructs behind the scenes depending how your elements are defined.

Tags with empty body can't work in WLS 7.0SP5

Hi, I'm now using WLS 7.0 SP5. In my JSPs, I have the following tag with empty body:
 <jsp:setProperty name="xxxForm" property="style123" value="abc"/>
 It doesn't work. The script works if I change that into:
 <jsp:setProperty name="xxxForm" property="style123" value="abc"></jsp:setProperty>
 However I have found that this problem should be fixed in WLS 7.0 SP1 already. (http://support.bea.com/application?namespace=askbea&origin=ask_bea_answer.jsp&event=link.view_answer_page_solution&answerpage=solution&page=wls/S-13458.htm) Any hint about this strange problem? Thanks in advance!

I am using RangeTimeStep for displaying data in time range. I dont know understand whats wrong with this code as it displays graph with some other criteria that I donot specify in RangeTimeStep. The member of Day is like 02/16/2003 and member value is DAY_460. Although I passed both the values but still getting the same graph.

Is there a way to modify the style sheet so that it transforms an XML document with empty tags as tag / ?

I have extracted some code from codeproject to
reindent an XML document. Does anyone know how I can modify the stylesheet to make it so that the transform of an XML file will result in empty tags showing up as <tag /> instead of <tag></tag>?

Or, if there is some other method for reindenting a MSXML2::IXMLDOMDocumentPtr object where I can specify how I want empty tags to be stored, that would be great too. However, I don't want it to lose its status of an MSXML2::IXMLDOMDocumentPtr object.
I.e. I would like to still perform operations on the result as if it was still an MSXML2::IXMLDOMDocumentPtr object.

Creating empty-tag-elements with JAXB?

Hi,
is there any possibility to force JAXB to create empty-tag-elements? For example
<exampletag attribute="value" />
instead of
<exampletag attribute="value">
</exampletag>.
I really need to close my tags in the described way but have found no possibility to do so.

Maybe this will help. I take advantage of the following behavior of the JAXB Marshaller to give me the form of output I require.
When a class (element) has "null" content, the output is of the form <tagger id="Unique"/>. When it has "empty" content, the output is of the form <tagger id="Unique"></tagger>.
Example code snippets:
For "null" content:

I have a XML file which contains some empty tags and some values with "?". I need to remove all empty tags and tags which have a value "?".

David, this is about understanding the use of, and differencies between tags and collections. This is a bit hard for many new users.
First of all searching for collections and tags can *not* be done simultaneously. You can either work with one collection only, or you can search for pictures with one or more tags.
Next collections should be used as either temporary work sets or for special occasions like specific vacations, trips or birthdays, e.g. "Anna 5 years". You say you have a collection named "Churches". I think would have made a TAG called "Churches" instead, because a tag is for general searches that can be combined. On the other hand I might have made a collection called "Church visits July 2005" or "Summer vacation 2005" or the like.
Another difference is that pictures in a collection can be sorted manually by drag & drop, while pictures found via tags always are shown in the order chosen in the Photo Browser Arrangement box shown bottom left in the Organizer.

No, but there is a way to export : with your bold text selected, create a new character style (Window > Character Styles), then double click it or use the Style Options context menu. In the dialog that appears, select Span Tag: Important. Muse will export any text to which you apply this character style as a element.

The ESB receives a request with input xml which contains some empty tag. while ESB invokes the actual services the empty tags should not be included. can any one help how to achieve this?

Adding alt text tags in InDesign (and Acrobat Pro)

I am having real difficulty adding alternative text tags. I created an INDD doc with rollover buttons linked to URLs firstly in InDesign CS4. I couldn't add alt text tags in CS4 so I then tried to add them in Acrobat X Pro but failed. Acrobat keeps wanting to class the PDF as a form. I then installed InDesign CS6 from the cloud and added alt text to the rollover buttons via object export options. However, these do not show when I export to PDF.
Can someone help me add alt text to my rollover buttons in my interactive PDF either in InDesign CS6 or in Acrobat Pro after I export it?

In InDesign CS6, you just need to add descriptions to buttons. This is done in the buttons and forms panel:

How to remove empty tags respecting the schema contraints?

With DOM3 validation api, elements/attributes may be checked if they may be removed.
-Check if the element is empty; getFirstChild() method returns null.
-Check if the element may be removed with DOM 3 Validation API.

XML: empty tag issue

I use Transformer class to convert xml Document into string representation:

I suggest that you write a specific function to translate the string with auto-close tags to empty tags instead. It is not very difficult to do and you can look at [http://sourceforge.net/projects/light-html2xml|http://sourceforge.net/projects/light-html2xml] where you will find a similar java function to convert HTML to well-formed XML.

SSRS 2008: how to show an empty chart with legend and x and y axis when no data available

I am using SSRS 2008, I generated one chart in report designer with the data from Analysis Services (Cube).
According to the dataset, there is no data returned when I run the query. so when I preview the chart, there is nothing but "no data available" showing on the chart.
Here I want to know is there any possible to show an empty chart with legend and x and y axis?
If it is possible, can you tell me how can I make it?

Hi,
When there is no data, the chart displays the message "no data available". But using a little work around, you can display an empty chart.
Please find the below steps given to achieve this
1. Create a new dataset using TSQL to return 1 row of data having the category field and value field set to 0. Add the fields that are necessary for the category fields, series fields and datafields.
   A simple example would be like
   SELECT 'abc' as Category, 0 as Amount
2. Add a new chart, set the category field to 'Category' and set the data field to Amount from above dataset created in step 1.
3. In the new chart, right click the category axis and select axis properties, Click on the labels tab, check on
'Hide axis labels' and then click ok
4. Now set the Visibility property of both the charts depending on the rows returned from your main dataset
   a. click on your main chart and set its Hidden property to :
=iif(CountRows("MainDataSet"),false,true)
   b. click on the new blank chart added and set its Hidden proprety to (the opposite) :
=iif(CountRows("MainDataSet"),true,false)
   Note : Please change the dataset name in above expression "MainDataset" to the name of your chart's dataset
5. Resize the new chart to the same size as your main chart, then position the new chart on the place as the main chart.
   (Note : You can set the position of new chart to be same by copying the location property from the main chart)
6. Now run and observe the result. When there are no rows returned by your main dataset, the new chart (the blank chart) should be displayed.

How to delete empty tags after xml-import

Hello collegues,
I'm totally new in this forum so excuse me if I make a mistake, but I've a little question.
I've imported text and images with a xml-import but sometimes empty tags (the colored invisible blocks) are in my text, with the result that I can't Find/Change on double-returns.
Does anybody know an awnser to this matter? I would love to write an apple-script that will find/change this so i don't have to look after all my pages.

What's your search query? I think you should be able to, with either a grep find of "\r+" or a normal text find of "^p^p". InDesign pretends like the tag-holding characters aren't there for the purpose of search. But you will lose the empty elements along with the extra returns. Maybe that is the problem?
