Adding Custom Webpart (Sandbox) to a page programmatically using CSOM

I'm trying to add a webpart(sandboxed) to a page programmatically using CSOM.
I've created a simple windows forms application and tried the below, it gives me error
Error: "A first chance exception of type 'Microsoft.SharePoint.Client.ServerException'
occurred in Microsoft.SharePoint.Client.Runtime.dll"- Server Exception occurred.

using (ClientContext context = new ClientContext("URL"))
Web web = context.Web;
File file = web.GetFileByServerRelativeUrl("/SitePages/Test.aspx");
LimitedWebPartManager wpMgr = file.GetLimitedWebPartManager(PersonalizationScope.Shared);
string webpartxml = "<?xml version=\"1.0\" encoding=\"utf-8\"?>" +
"<webParts>" +
"<webPart xmlns='http://schemas.microsoft.com/WebPart/v3'>" +
"<metaData>" +
"<type name=\"CustomVisualWebPartProject.VisualWebPart1.VisualWebPart1, CustomVisualWebPartProject, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=28942db35e131a1c\" />" +
"<importErrorMessage>Cannot Import this webpart</importErrorMessage>" +
"</metaData>"+
"<data>"+
"<properties>"+
"<property name=\"Title\" type=\"string\">CustomVisualWebPartProject - VisualWebPart1</property> "+
"<property name=\"Description\" type=\"string\">My Visual Web Part</property>" +
"<property name=\"ChromeType\" type=\"chrometype\">None</property>" +
"</properties>" +
"</data>" +
"</webPart></webParts>";
WebPartDefinition webPartDef = wpMgr.ImportWebPart(webpartxml);
wpMgr.AddWebPart(webPartDef.WebPart, "Left", 1);
context.ExecuteQuery();
Kindly let me know how to resolve it.
Thanks,

    Hi,
    I assume you are attempting to add this to a standard page layout and not a HTML Page Layout.
    My suggestion is that you add your webpart to a standard content page in the browser first. Save the content page and check in / publishing a major version. Now open your site in SPD and navigate to the Pages library. Your content page should be listed.
    Right click this content page and "Detach" the page from its page layout. You will receive a warning, ok that.
    Once the content page has been detached from the page layout, open the content page in SPD and view the HTML source. Look for your custom webpart in the source. This is the tags / source that you need to add to your custom page layout. You can reattach this
    content page to its page layout now if you wish.

  • Create custom web-part page with OOTB page layout using CSOM (Javascript)

    Hi,
    I need to create a custom webpart page with a OOTB page layout (eg. Header 3 column footer) using JSOM.
    I found a link to do this using CSOM: http://spdevlab.com/2013/03/28/creating-wiki-web-part-and-publishing-pages-via-csom-in-sharepoint-2010/
    But here i have to copy the page template from 15 hive and store it in a resource file and I am also getting error as "The request message is too big" and to fix this I need to run a powershell script but I need the code to run in SharePoint online
    also.
    Isn't there a simpler piece of code in which I can enter the name of the page layout(OOTB/Custom) while creating a page in JSOM as we have in SSOM?
    Thanks for the help

    Hi,
    According to your post, my understanding is that you want to create a custom web part page layout template.
    There are some articles about how to create the custom web part page layout template, you can refer to them.

  • 404 error while adding custom webpart to the page

    I have my solution working in development environment. I deployed the wsp in prod env. While adding one specific webpart to the page leads to 404 error page.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
    boreal123's reply makes sense.
    I would say that somewhere in your specific method call a web service, but it cannot find. You can check the related code snippet.
    I suggest that you can try to store the url in a webpart property so that it can be modified easily.

    Update: i believe the error is with "executeQueryAsync". How to fix this?
    Thanks

    Hi,
    I suggest you create a simple demo first, once it works, then add other customization into your project gradually. It will be easier to composite the correct code.
    Please apply the code below in your project for a try:
    <script type="text/javascript" src="http://code.jquery.com/jquery-1.10.2.min.js"></script>
    <script type="text/javascript">
    _spBodyOnLoadFunctionNames.push("callCSOM");
    var clientContext;
    var website;
    var str="";
    // Make sure the SharePoint script file 'sp.js' is loaded before your
    // code runs.
    function callCSOM()
    //alert("call");
    $("#Button1").click(function()
    ExecuteOrDelayUntilScriptLoaded(sharePointReady, "sp.js");
    // Create an instance of the current context.
    function sharePointReady() {
    clientContext = SP.ClientContext.get_current();
    website = clientContext.get_web();
    clientContext.load(website);
    clientContext.executeQueryAsync(onRequestSucceeded, onRequestFailed);
    function onRequestSucceeded() {
    str="website.get_title(): "+website.get_title();
    alert(str);
    function onRequestFailed(sender, args) {
    alert('Error: ' + args.get_message());
    </script>
    <input id="Button1" type="button" value="Run Code"/>

  • Adding custom message on the login page

    I have done the following to try and get a custom message to display on the oracle login page:
    1:
    In the System Administrator Responsibility, went into the System Profile Options and searched for "Local Login Mask" The default value was 32, I set it to 96. This was done because 64 is the number to display a "Corporate Policy Message" on the login page (32+64 = 96).
    2:
    Switched over to the Application Developer responsibility, and went to Application->Messages. Here I did a search for "FND_SSO_SARBANES_OXLEY_TEXT". A result came back with current message text: "Corporate Policy Message". I changed this to a test message and hit save.
    3
    Still in Application Developer responsibility, I went to Other->Requests->Run and chose "Generate Messages", for parameters I chose:
    Language: US
    Application: Application Object Library
    Mode: DB_TO_RUNTIME
    while leaving the others blank. I submitted this request and it completed normal.
    4
    I logged out of applications, closed my browser and cleared my cache. I went to login into the apps and at the login page... it does display "Corporate Policy Message" but it never updated it to my custom one.
    Question: Do I need to restart the HTTP server or something to see the updated results? I am confused why it will display "Corporate Policy Message" but the value for FND_SSO_SARBANES_OXLEY_TEXT is clearly changed. Even when you go back into it and look.
    The Generate Messages conc prog is a spawned process so I cant find out what its doing.
    Any help would be loved!

    Hi all,
    it will seems to be a newby question, i'm sorry i begin using jhs since two weeks
    the question is how can i Allow an onBlur property on VO Attributes; this property includes a piece of JavaScript to be executed on leaving the item to be generated in my jsp pages to prevent doing this in post-generation, by the way i would like to know who is the class responsible for the generation of form.js .

    Hi EvertJan, thanks for the reply.
    I need an advice:
    i've added an onblur event to jhsgenerator ADF BC property and i write as an example this.value=null
    i created a template in jspinput.xsl(JAGLauncher.jar) like this:
    <xsl:template name="onBlur">
    <xsl:param name="onBlur" />
    <xsl:if test="$onBlur !=''" >
    <xsl:attribute name="onblur">
    <xsl:value-of select="$onBlur" />
    </xsl:attribute>
    </xsl:if>
    </xsl:template>
    and i try to generate a html:text by modifing inputtextsec template like this:
    <xsl:template name="textInputSec">
    <xsl:param name="name"/>
    <xsl:param name="property"/>
    <xsl:param name="withIndex"/>
    <xsl:param name="size"/>
    <xsl:param name="maximumLength"/>
    <xsl:param name="updateable"/>
    <xsl:param name="displayType"/>
         <xsl:param name="onBlur" />
    <html:text name="{$name}" property="{$property}" size="{$size}" maxlength="{$maximumLength}" onblur="{$onBlur}">
    <xsl:call-template name="onBlur" >
    <xsl:with-param name="onBlur" select="$onBlur"/>
    </xsl:call-template>
              <xsl:if test="$withIndex = 'true'">
    <xsl:attribute name="indexed">
    <xsl:value-of select="'true'"/>
    </xsl:attribute>
    </xsl:if>
    <xsl:call-template name="disabledAttribute">
    <xsl:with-param name="updateable" select="$updateable"/>
    </xsl:call-template>
    </html:text>
         </xsl:template>
    also added this to CreateFormElement template in jsplibrary.xsl:
    <xsl:with-param name="onBlur" >
    <xsl:call-template name="getCustomProperty">
    <xsl:with-param name="entityAttribute" select="$entityAttribute"/>
    <xsl:with-param name="propertyName" select="'ON_BLUR'"/>
    </xsl:call-template>
    </xsl:with-param>
    but the result inemployees.jsp is not what i expected:
    <td class="prompt" nowrap="nowrap">FirstName</td>
    <td nowrap="nowrap">
    <html:text name="EmployeesBean" property="EmployeesFirstName" size="20" maxlength="30" onblur="" />
    </td>
    like yousee this.value=null is missing in onblur=""
    i hope you can help me

  • Showing file preview programmatically using CSOM

    Hi,
    Is it possible to fetch the file preview using Client object model (javascript).
    I have a document library, in which I have few files (word docs, excel, pdf, ppt).
    I have a custom visual webpart, in which I would like to show the file preview. Is it possible? Is there any code samples for the same?
    Thanks

    It is possible using client side rendering and a Sharepoint list view web part.
    Steps:
    1. Save the javascript from this blog post and upload it to Sharepoint library. (Better if you store it in HIVE)
    http://josharepoint.com/2014/11/13/create-thumbnails-view-using-client-side-rendering-and-owa-in-sharepoint-2013/
    2. Use JSLink property included in SharePoint 2013 List View Web Parts

  • Select option "Show this View : in Folder of Content type : {Custom Content Type Name}" while creating view using CSOM

    Hi,
    I am trying to create "View" in a Document Library and need to enable following:
    1. Mark as default View
    2. Folders -> Show this view : in Folders of Content Type : {Custom Content Type name}
    I am using following code which sets "in Folders of Content Type : " to "Folder" rather than selecting custom content type despite passing Content Type ID of custom content type.
    code:
    var itemContentTypes = clientContext.LoadQuery(web.AvailableContentTypes.Where(ct => ct.Name == viewContentType));
    clientContext.ExecuteQuery();
    var itemContentType = itemContentTypes.FirstOrDefault();
    view.ContentTypeId = itemContentType.Id;
    view.DefaultViewForContentType = true;
    view.Update();
    clientContext.ExecuteQuery();
    Please highlight what seems to be missing?
    Thanks
    Sonal

    Hi,
    Before you set the content type ID for the view, you need to add the custom content type to the library firstly.
    You can add the content type to library using OOTB feature “Add from existing site content types” in library settings or using Client Object Model.
    Here is a code snippet for your reference:
    var list = context.Web.Lists.GetByTitle(listTitle);
    list.ContentTypesEnabled = true;
    var contentType = context.Site.RootWeb.ContentTypes.GetById("0x0120");
    list.ContentTypes.AddExistingContentType(contentType);
    context.ExecuteQuery();

  • Read contents of Pages library and show in custom webpart

    Hi,
    How to read the contents of "Pages" library (Published pages  and custom created pages only and not reading OOB pages)?
    I have a publishing site, in which I need to read the "Title" and URL" of the pages which are created by users and show in a custom webpart. If a new page is published, that page data should be added to the webpart.
    Is it possible to achieve this? I know of Content Query webpart, but I need to custom create a custom webpart with custom styling. Is it possible to use the logic of content query webpart in a custom visual webpart? How to achieve this programmatically?
    Thanks

    The process in 2013 is essentially the same as it was in 2010.  The only difference is that you don't have to manually add additional fields to the datafields list in the .webpart file.  But the .XSL customization is identical.  That's why
    you won't find many articles on how to do it in 2013.  It was already covered in 2010 and hasn't changed.  Here is one example from 2013.

  • "500 internal server error" after adding custom fields to Address page

    I need to display custom fields on the "Addresses" and the "Personal Data" pages. For that, we added custom CI_INCLUDE fields in both PA0006 and PA0002 tables as per instructions below
    https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/wiki?path=/display/profile/essPersonalInformationUIenhancementwithoutmodification&focusedCommentId=28278867
    we also extended the Badi HRPAD00INFTYUI
    custom fields show up OK in page "Personal Data". However when trying to browse to page "Addresses"
    we get the following error:
    "500 internal server error - com.sap.tc.webdynpro.progmodel.context.ContextException: MappedNodeInfo(DetailView.SelectedInfotype): unknown child node Area8 ".
    "Area8" is one of the custom fields we added in PA0006 (Address infotype).
    any idea what is wrong?  maybe Badi HRPAD00INFTYUI cannot handle 2 infotypes in the same time?

    Hi Sasu,
    Its clearly saying contect binding error. Have you mapped  correctly from FcComponent to VcComponents.
    FcCompoenets for Model logic.
    Check the mappings correctly.
    If it is complete custom or new field then there will be could of steps.
    1) Reimport the model
    2) map new field to FcComponent
    3) Bind new Fields from Fc to Vc

                                          </dvt:barGraph>but only the first binding is being added to the page def ? I tried putting both graph bindings in the first custom binding but on generation I get an error "Error while parsing XML for page definition element JhsUsers: Expected 'EOF'." (although the code in the binding macro is exactly the same as in the pagedef when added manually ?
    How can I add both of these graph bindings ?
    Cheers,

    Brent,
    In the statement
    ${JHS.pageDefGenerator.addBinding($JHS.page,"JhsUsers","#CUSTOM_BINDING2()")}
    the second argument should be the id of the binding you want to add. You use twice "JhsUsers" as id for the binding.
    This id should be the same id as used in your XML page snippet, so for the first binding it should be "SubjectsActiveVisitsGraph" and for the second binding it should be "SitesActiveVistsGraph"
