Adding elements to html form dynamically

hi All,
I would like to add input boxes to html form dynamically onclick event.
But this doesnot work at all.. can u spot the trouble?
<html>
<body>
<input type=file name="fileName" value="browse">
<input type=button value="Add more file" onclick="add();">
<input type=hidden name="theValue" value='0'>
<script type="text/javascript">
function add()
var num=parseInt(theValue.value)+1;
theValue.value=num;
var name="fileName"+num;
var element=document.createElement(input);
element.setAttribute('type','file');
element.setAttribute('name',name);
element.setAttribute('value','browse');
document.appendChild(element);
</script>
</body>
</html>
thanks in advance

Hi,
Since no one is giving you the hint: I'm afraid you're in the wrong forum. This is not a Javascript forum. I know it sounds confusing but despite the name, Javascript and Java have nothing really in common. Javascript runs on the client side. Java web technologies don't. Although, what you are asking for can be done with JSP's, I'm afraid, I can't help you with Javascripting :(....
Cheers,
Joerg

  • Creating dynamic html forms

    Hi,
    We have a requirement to create a number of html forms where the fields displayed on the form could change based on the date a user requests the form.
    The technology stack we are using is jsp,struts, adf bc, although we may use jsf , adf bc.
    The only way I can see of doing this(assuming we get the database design correct) is to generate the required xml from the database and then transform this into html on the fly? This would obviosuly not be compatable with the ADF binding feature though.
    Has anyone done this, and/or found a way to make it work using ADF.
    Thanks,
    Richard

    I guess I could also just dynamically build up the from fields directly in the jsp.
    I guess I would just loop throught the meta data on the forms from the database,
    and then just write out the number and type of form elements required.
    This would still not make use of adf binding though.

  • Very big problem with JSF about FORM and "id=" for HTML form's elements and

    I have discovered a very big problem with JSF about FORM and "id=" for HTML form's elements and java instruction "request.getParameterNames()".
    Suppose you have something like this, to render some datas form a Java Beans :
    <h:dataTable value="#{TablesDb2Bean.myDataDb2ListSelection}" var="current" border="2" width="50%" cellpadding="2" cellspacing="2" style="text-align: center">
    <h:column>
    <f:facet name="header">
    <h:outputText value="Name"/>
    </f:facet>
    <h:outputText id="nameTableDb2" value="#{current.db2_name_table}"/>
    </h:column>
    </h:dataTable>
    Everything works fine...
    Suppose you want to get the name/value pairs for id="nameTableDb2" and #{current.db2_name_table} to process them in a servlet. Here is the HTML generated :
    <td><span <span class="attribute-name">id=<span class="attribute-value">"j_id_jsp_1715189495_22:0:nameTableDb2">my-table-db2-xxxxx</span></td>
    You think you can use the java instructions :
    Enumeration NamesParam = request.getParameterNames();
    while (NomsParam.hasMoreElements()) {
    String NameParam = (String) NamesParam.nextElement();
    out.println("<h4>"++NameParam+ "+</h4>);
    YOU ARE WRONG : request.getParameterNames() wants the syntax *name="nameTableDb2" but JSF must use id="nameTableDb2" for "<h:outputText"... So, you can't process datas in a FORM generated with JSF in a Servlet ! Perhaps I have made an error, but really, I wonder which ?

    While I certainly appreciate ejb's helpful responses, this thread shows up a difference in perspective between how I read the forum and how others do. Author ejb is correct in advising you to stay inside JSF for form processing if form processing is what you want to do.
    However, I detect another aspect to this post which reminds me of something Marc Andreesen once said when he was trying to get Netscape off the ground: "there's no such thing as bad HTML."
    In this case, I interpret ungar's request as a new feature request. Can I phrase it like this?
    "Wouldn't it be nice if I could render my nice form with JSF but, in certain cases, when I REALLY know what I'm doing" just post out to a separate servlet? I know that in this case I'll be missing out on all the nice validation, conversion, l10n, i18n, ajax, portlet and other features provided by JSF".
    If this is the case, because it really misses the point of JSF, we don't allow it, but we do have an issue filed for it
    https://javaserverfaces-spec-public.dev.java.net/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=127
    If you can't wait for it to be fixed, you could decorate the FormRenderer to fix what you want.
    I have an example in my JSF book that shows how to do this decoration. http://bit.ly/edburnsjsf2

  • Two HTML in one HTML Form Element Attributes........

    In my HTML Form Element Attributes i already have one *<INPUT readonly name="Customer Code"/>*, then i tried to add another HTML onmouseover="toolTip_enable(event,this,'Customer Code')" , i.e, like this both HTML in one Element Attributes +<INPUT readonly name="Customer Code"/>+ onmouseover="toolTip_enable(event,this,'Customer Code')" but its not working .
    how do i put both HTML in one HTML Form Element Attributes?
    Skud :(

    Hi,
    I think this is duplicate post
    Delete the symbol........
    What you try archive. Form element attributes is not place where you enter HTML. You enter only attributes there like
    onmouseover="toolTip_enable(event,this,'Customer Code')"PS: when posting code wrap it to {noformat}{noformat} tags

  • APEX HTML form element codes

    Where can I find an extensive list of HTML form element codes and what they do for ex. class="fielddatabold"? This would make it easier than doing multiple google searches. TY.

TY.There is no published list of these attributes and neither is their rendering (i.e. "what they do") necessarily the same across different themes.

  • How to reference html form element in javascript ?

    Dear all,
    My DPK portlet is like this:
    I created a html form within it there a several textfields, a hidden field and a SUBMIT button.
    The application will call itself to insert a new record to database table on pressing the SUBMIT button.
    My problem is that since all the form textfields and the hidden field ara all the qualified names, and I want to set the hidden field to some value, say "ADD" on the onsubmit event in the form. How can I reference the hidden field in javascript ?
    Or can you suggest another strategy to do that ?
    Many thanks

    Pete:
    Remove the name attributes from all input elements defined by the pl/sql process. For example
    <input name="company" type="Text" size="30"/> should be replaced by <input type="Text" size="30"/> or <input name="f01" type="Text" size="30"/>
    The APEX accept process recognises a predefined set of HTML form input names. Any input with a name not from this set will cause the accept process to fail. f01 through f50 are valid names for the accept procedure.

    Hi, Do you mean to say,
    You have an HTML page in which you have a text field and an add button. If you enter anything in that text field and click on Add button the text field contents should be displayed in the same HTML page and you should be able to go on entering new values into the text field and you should be able to retain and display all the previously entered values..
    and finally the list of added items are not stored in the database..
    If this is the case
    i. Your html form should be submitted to the same page.
    ii. You need to have a Vector which holds the entered values.
    iii. Bind the vector object to the request object and collect the same vector object from the request and display its contents...
    I think this would help...

  • Generating XSD files from an HTML form......

    What is the best way to generate XML Schema files from an HTML form? Are there any APIs, Frameworks, software products, that already do this for you? What is the best way to do this programmatically?

    Any help and/or advice will be greatly appreciated...

  • How can an applet retrieve the values of a HTML form shown in a JEditorPane

    Hi,
    I'm doing an applet that contains a JTree and a JEditorPane
    among other components. Each node of the JTree represents some
    information that is stored in a database, and whenever a JTree
    node is selected, this information is recovered and shown in
    the JEditorPane with a html form. To make the html form,
    the applet calls a servlet, which retrieves the information of
    the node selected from the database. This information is stored
    like a XML string, and using XSLT, the servlet sends the html
    form to the applet, which shows it in the JEditorPane.
    My problem is that I don't know how I can recover new values
    that a user of the application can introduce in the input fields
    of the html form. I need to recover this new values and send them
    to another servlet which store the information in the database.
    If someone could help me I'd be very pleased.

  • How to retrieve data from the HTML form in the JEditorPane?

    I could quite easily use JEditorPane to render and display a simple HTML file.
    My HTML looks like this:
    <html>
    <head>
    <title> simple form</title>
    </head>
    <body bgcolor="cccccc">
    <center><h1>SURVEY THING</h1>
    </center>
    <form id="survey">
    <p>1.Type something in.</p>
    <textarea cols=25 rows=8>
    </textarea>
    <BR>
    <p>2.Pick ONLY one.</p>
    <input type="radio" name="thing" value="0" Checked> NO choice <BR>
    <input type="radio" name="thing" value="1"> First choice <BR>
    <input type="radio" name="thing" value="2"> Second choice
    <BR>
    <p>3.Pick all you like.</p>
    <input type="checkbox" name="stuff" value="A"> A <BR>
    <input type="checkbox" name="stuff" value="B"> B <BR>
    <input type="checkbox" name="stuff" value="C"> C <BR>
    <input type="submit" value="give data">
    <input type="reset" value="do clensing">
    </form>
    </body>
    </html>
    It gets diplayed fine and I can type in text, select radio buttons (they behave mutualy-exclusive,
    as they should) and check checkboxes.
    The problem I have is with retrieving the values which were entered into the form.
    If I, after editing, try to write the html to the file using HTMLWriter,
    it records the changes I made into the textarea, however all the radio and checkbox selections are lost.
    Maybe the problem is that when I enter the values I do not use any methods like
    insertBeforeStart and so on, but I believe I shouldn't need to use them to populate a form.
    Especially I never change the structure of the HTML.
    Also, when I try to traverse the Element tree and see the input elements attributes,
    I can never see a change in the entered values. However it is probably b/c I am traversing through
    the model and the changes are in the view (just a guess.)
    Anyway, if anybody could direct me onto the right path: how to retrieve the values typed in the form,
    or if it is possible at all in the JEditorPane, I would greatly appreciate.
    thanks
    maciej

  • Is there a way to create reusable HTML Forms that can be used on multiple pages?

    I'm trying to understand the recommended approach to managing 10 HTML forms that will be reused on many different pages.  I want to be able to modify the form definition once and have the change propogate.

    Is your requirement that authors be able to change the form definition, or should form definition be controlled by developers?
    In the case of authors being able to change the form definition then I would say best practice would be to create a page that holds the form definition (using whatever components work for you - either the out of the box form components or something custom). Then use the reference component to point the definition in all the other locations you want the form to appear. One thing to note is if you are using dispatcher for caching you need to make sure you strategy for cache flushing accomadates this approach.
    In the case of developers controlling the form definition you could crate a component for each form, and then simly drag that component onto the pages that require the form. In this case your would control all the form label and description elements in the localization file.

  • How to make a form dynamic so that it displays different logos at runtime

    I am working on some assignment wherein I would like to make a form dynamic so that in it's designated image holder it displays different logos/pictures at run time? First of all is there such a possibility?? I am still very new to this forum and also trying to understand the logic/bindings/heirarchy etc. in LCD. Any input would be highly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance

    LC 7 or 8 does not help load logs at runtime. However you can associate all your logs at design time and control their visibility property based on the events. This may help fulfill the requirements you have to an extent however adding number of images at design time will increase the size of the template.
