Address book edits

My address book will not accept edits.
When I type in a new email address for one of my contacts, close the address book, then open it again, the new address is not there. It's still the old address.
What now?

Hi all,
I've got a very similar problem. I edit an Address Book card by trying to swap the first two telephone numbers round. The first is a mobile number say 111, while the second is a "home" number say 222. I add a third phone number field and do the following cut & paste actions (showing the start situation):-
mobile: 111
home: 222
mobile: 111
home: 222
work:
mobile:
home: 222
work: 111
mobile: 222
home:
work: 111
mobile: 222
home: 111
work:
mobile: 222
home: 111
home: 222
mobile: 111
After clicking the Edit button to finish the edit, my change is undone! If before clicking the Edit button, I select another card for editing and then return to the first, the change is also undone. I thought the problem might have been something to do with the fact that my address book is published for another .mac user so I removed the check option in the Preferences, General, "Synchronize my contacts with other computers using .Mac". However, this didn't fix the problem.
I can add new contacts but cannot change their phone numbers around as desired. I can swap City for Postal code (in a Duch address format!)
My files are:-
~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook/ABPerson.skIndexInverted
~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook/ABSubscribedPerson.skIndexInverted
~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook/AddressBook.data
~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook/AddressBook.data.previous
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.AddressBook.abd.plist
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.AddressBook.plist
Can any help, please?

  • Address Book "Edit" button grayed out...unable to edit

Had to edit a contact's info and was surprised to find the Edit button grayed out, not allowing me to click it. Repairing permissions has not helped.

V.K., thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, before I got to try it, I re-launched Address Book one more time and found it will no longer launch. Its Dock icon just keeps bouncing. Not only that, but I've also found that iCal and Mail will no longer launch, either. The iCal calendar pane and the Mail main window open, but the beach ball spins forever. I've never seen this before. Any ideas?
I tried a different account on the same computer. No problems there.

  • Address Book "Edit Distribution List" not working in Lion 10.7.2

I have been told by people in my "Groups" that I am sending to the wrong e-mail addresses.  I checked and sure enough so I went to edit the distribution list for that group and it's greyed out. It worked prior to this update. My wifes is still using 10.7.1 and edit didtribution list is not greyed out.....anyone having the same issue or any ideas where it is now or how to re-enable it....or is it just broken?  Also I am contented into iCloud.

To add to my original post.... My wifes OS was 10.7.1 and I just finished the update to 10.7.2 and signed into iCloud.  I first transfered iCal but left Address Book.  When I went into Address Book and checked the Distribution List it was not greyed out.  Next I transfered Address Book to iCloud and checked Dist List and it was greyed out.  Next I removed Address Book from iCloud (leaving a copy of it on the computer), restarted AB and checked to see if DL was still greyed and it was not.  So no fixes here but if you want the functionality of the DL you could turn off Address Book in iCloud temp until they come up with a fix.  Important: if you turn off Address Book from iCloud be sure to leave a copy on your puter and of course before doing any of this make a Archive Backup of Address Book.  I guess at this point it'll just be a waiting game until a fix comes out.  Cheers, Neil

  • Address Book: edit custom field labels

Is there a way to edit/delete custom field labels one created earlier. Where are the entries of custom defined field labels saved?
    Thank you for any feedback

    Thank you for your replies,
I understand that deselecting the custom label will make it disappear from the card but not from the list which is somewhere kept (on my iPhone I can see this list when applying a custom label). Also, when trying to re-use a custom label (on Address Book) there seems to be no option for choosing the ones used already.
Therefor I cannot edit a custom label rather than add a new one (even if it is the same); that makes the list on my iphone from which I can select a custom label every time larger as unused ones do not disappear - I am correct?

  • Address Book Edit Screen

All of a sudden in the EDIT screen for address book cards the colons between the subject type and the actual info has turned into an odd squiggle.
any one know how to get this back to the colon?
    thanx all!

    Hi Asher,
please check this article out: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25398
In short, try to do the following:
    1) try if you got the same problem in another user
    2) if not, delete or move your com.apple.AddressBook.plist from your users' ~Library/Preferences folder (restart afterwards)
    3) delete or move your users' ~Library/Caches folder
    4) delete or move your users' ~Library/Fonts folder
!! Fiddling with the Library files can cause problems, so only do what I wrote above and do NOT start deleting or moving other files !!

  • Address book editing

When I go to address book and try to edit an address with many names the select box is not placed "over" the list of names but to the right and it is impossible to select the whole name to correct or omit. Very strange, as this problem did not occur when I started my relationship with Apple Mail.
How to change this annoying problem?
    Seebie

    Seebie,
I think you're not clicking the "Edit" button at the bottom of the window.
In the "Name" list (center column in Address Book) click on the entry you want to edit, then select "Edit" at the bottom. You should be able to edit then.

  • Address book edit

I notice that some Address Book entries on my Mac (Lion) can be edited and some cannot. Can someone explain this? I also notice that my card can't be eidted, and I cannot make it my card, either.
Some recent changes having to do with iCloud?

GMail also allows you to have all your contacts shared with your BB.
    Sometimes very handy!

  • ALL ICLOUD ADDRESS BOOK EDITS DON'T SAVE

Any and all changes I make to Address Book Entries are rejected, both on my MacBook desktop and on iCloud.com.
In the Address Book OSX Lion desktop app, any Edits I make disappear a few seconds after clicking "Done".
On iCloud.com, any Edits I make give me the error "your changes to this contact couldn't be saved because of a server error".
Edits made on iPhone/iPad work, but don't seem to sync to iCloud.com or desktop Address Book.
All other iCloud sync items (iCal, Bookmarks, Mail, Photo Stream, etc.) seem to work just fine.
I have signed out of iCloud on my MacBook entirely, thus deleting all iCloud data from my computer, and let it repopulate from the iCloud servers; the same problems persist.

I AM FACING THE SAME PROBLEM BRO , NOT GETTING A SOLUTION

  • Mac OS 10.6.8.  In address book I have tried to delete some groups (created when I created an account in mail which I then subsequently deleted).  However in address book edit the delete button is greyed out.

I cannot delete groups in address book because the delete button is greyed out.  I have deleted the original mail accounts which created the address book.  I could just leave the groups there but the problem it creates is that address book tries to connect to the relevant server every time I open mail, then I get various error messages because it cannot connect.  Thanks for any assistance.

I found this link for a similar problem someone had with a Lotus Notes account. I used it to resolve my issue with a different email account (basically followed the same steps, and then looked for the particular account I needed to delete)... hope it helps!

  • Edit Distribution List in Address Book is gray

After updating to Lion OS 10.7, the Edit Distribution List menu selection is grayed out. How do we edit Distribution List (Groups) with contacts with multiple email addresses?

The key is that the Contact List is now being kept in the Cloud & you cannot edit the Distribution List in your Mac's Address Book.
    Easy Fix:
    Quit your Address Book
Go to  Menu --> Sys Preferences --> iCloud
    Uncheck the CONTACTS icon
    Close Sys Pref
Open Address Book - Edit your Distribution Lists (No longer Greyed out)
    Quit Address Book
Go to  Menu --> Sys Preferences --> iCloud
    Check the CONTACTS icon
You should be good to go!
    Hope this helps!

  • Unable to edit distribution list in address book?

Under address Book edit, the edit distribution list is greyed out. I have several groups that i need to correct the default email, but since I have upgraded to Lion, I have been unable to do this. These are not smart groups. I was able to do this with Snow Leopard but I cannot

And icloud has its own (issues) and Community.
There are support pages for every product, use the tab "Support"
    or go to: http;//www.apple.com/support/mail /cloud /lion /macbookpro

  • How to delete empty imported address books?

I found similar issues but the solutions offered do not seem to work for me. I have now got 4 copies of implab.mab in my profile folder (suffixes -1, -2, -3). I've tried deleting the extra 3 with explorer but they reappear. I've tried renaming them as suggested elsewhere but then the renamed and original both appear. Deleting them from the address book pane in the Write option has no effect.
    Any suggestions? Thanks

Confirm these are address books you have deleted from the 'Address Book', so they no longer display in 'Address Book'.
I'm not talking about empty address books which are still displaying - they must have been deleted.
    In 'Address Book'
    select the address book
    Edit > Delete address book
note you cannot delete any default address books :
'Personal Address Book' and 'Collected Addresses'.
You cannot delete/remove old deleted address book entries via 'Config Editor'.
You can access the 'prefs.js' file located in your Profile folders and open that file using 'Notepad', then edit the file and save and close.
However, you must have exited/closed Thunderbird first in order to do this, otherwise editing the file will have no effect.
I would also advise you create a copy of the prefs.js file before you make any changes and save to desktop to act as a backup - just in case of error.
    In your 'prefs.js' file
Each live- not deleted address book shown in the 'Address Book' will have:
    'Description', 'dirType', 'filename' and 'position'
    eg:
    user_pref("ldap_2.servers.testimpab.description", "Test Impab");
    user_pref("ldap_2.servers.testimpab.dirType", 2);
    user_pref("ldap_2.servers.testimpab.filename", "abook-1.mab");
    user_pref("ldap_2.servers.testimpab.position", 1);
Any address book you imported/created and subsequently deleted from the 'Address Book' will only leave the 'position' line in prefs.js.
There will be no other lines associated with that address book.
    eg:
    user_pref("ldap_2.servers.TEST_1.position", 6);
This is the line you can delete - make sure TB is closed first.
Note: Do not delete anything that says 'pab' or 'history' - these are the default address books.
After editing the 'pref.js file, save the file and then close it.
    Then restart Thunderbird.

  • How To Change Order of Email Addresses in Address Book / groups / Mail?

Many records in my address book have multiple email addresses.
No big deal but I wonder if there is a way to tell Address Book / Mail which address to pick as the default.
For example I send a litttle news email one a week to a group of contacts.  I want to send this email to people's personal -- not business -- email address.  I've created a group in Address Book and type that group name in my Mail to line and the group pops up.  But a few of the records pick the corporate address and I have to go in and change those addresses.
I just tried editing one record ... I deleted both "work" and "home" addresses from a record.  Then reentered them "home" first, "work" second.  But when I closed the edit Address Book listed them in the original order (maybe alpha).
    Any ideas?
    Thanks
