ADF Faces or Trinidad?

This has probably been asked a million times but I did some searching on the forums and I couldn't find a solid answer.
I'm starting a new large scale J2EE application now that is supposed to mimic a thick client. Not considering ADF RC yet, but potentially later. Would it better to start with the older ADF Faces jar files I have or to go forward with Trinidad?
There is some confusion on the issue with the other developers I'm working with so I was hoping to get some clarification from someone more knowledgeable on the topic.
Again, I apologize for asking something that has probably been answered time and time again, but without an official answer we're fighting amongst ourselves as to which to leverage.
Thanks!

You are correct the evolution path was UIX->ADF Faces 10.1.3->Trinidad->ADF Faces Rich Client 11g.
So if you are starting a new project now and you can't use ADF Faces Rich Client I think I would go with JDeveloper 11g and the Trinidad components.
Now that said, one thing to keep in mind is that there is no automated migration between Trinidad and ADF Faces Rich Client - simply because the type of UI that you can build with the two is completely different. So my actual recommendation for you would be to go directly with ADF Faces Rich Client now.

  • ADF Faces to Trinidad migrated app popup not working

    I have 10g version application (ADF bc and jsf) migrated to 11g using automated migration of jdeveloper and this application has lot of popups . for some reason pop ups are not working in the converted app
    if i open a popup programmatically it works okay , but it is not working when used from faces-config.xml ; with dialog:edit etc and usewindow = true - opens in same window
    for this blog post [http://blogs.oracle.com/Didier/2008/12/dialog_not_opening_in_a_popup_1.html] by Didlier , the configuration should be moved to adfc-config.xml file , but looks like that is only required when using rich controls ( mainly task flows) . for now my applicaiton only has trinidad components.
    If i create adfc-config.xml manually and copy all the navigation flows , will it work. i guess i need to specify that somewhere for the application to start using this file
    I thought i will download the converted srdemo but the link to converted srdemo from here [http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/jdev/migration-082101.html]
    is not working
    if anybody have suggestions please advise , thanks for your time
    Regards

    There seems to be a broader problem here in that the client-side validation is not respecting sub-form boundaries. Any post on the page causes all the validations to run, not just the ones in the subform that contains the control the invoked the post.
    Also, with the field marked as immediate, will I have problems with a "Cancel" button marked as immediate? Will the validation on the immediate field take place prior to the navigation invoked by the Cancel button?
    Thanks.

  • ADF Faces (Trinidad?) & Facelets Support

    This is long, but help and advice is very much needed.
    My programming team is facing a migration from UIX to JSF (ADF Faces) for future applications and we have hit a road block in regards to a template structure that is easy to use and maintain. We had gone through official Oracle training with JSF, however the trainer's answer to templates was to "create a template and copy and paste for every new file". For our team this is unacceptable so I've been charged with figuring out how to simply templates for our team. Not only do we need to make this easy for our application developers but we need to keep it simple for web developers to create "simple" survey-like applications.
    From what I've come across the answers seems to be either Facelets or Regions.
    Working with Regions seem to be over-complicated, requiring too much replication (basically back to copy/pasting an entire template) or passing the panelPage's content as a java object (bad for our web developers). I presented the combinations to my team and supervisor and it was agreed that Regions are impractical for our development practices.
    So it seems the answer is with Facelets. The problems I have with this is that:
    1. JDeveloper doesn't appear to natively handle Facelets, or include the libraries.
    2. From what I've learned, the ADF Faces library that comes with JDeveloper doesn't have Facelets support either.
    3. Looking into Trinidad, Facelets support exists but there is a lack of the Oracle skin.
    Facelets support is really what my team needs, as it's the closest thing to the old UIX templates I've seen so far.
    I've followed instructions/examples on several posts here, but I've yet to come across an example that works. I've Googled countless pages and examples, but when it comes down to ADF Faces and Facelets, it seems I'm at a dead end.
    So, can anyone help me with this?
    Thanks in advance,
    Rick
    PS:
    Using JDeveloper 10.1.3.2.0.4066 with stock ADF Faces
    External libraries used:
    Facelets 1.1.11
    Trinidad 1.0.1-incubating

    It just so happens that not long after I posted, I catch the "adf-facelets.jar" on the facelets site.
    dvohra, I had seen the links you've pasted however none of them described the actual process to get it to work, it's all been segmented copy/paste instructions. This doesn't really help someone who is struggling.
    So... I'll paste what my solution was, hopefully this will help others:
    1. Download and install the Facelets 1.1.11 library
    https://facelets.dev.java.net/servlets/ProjectDocumentList?folderID=3635&expandFolder=3635&folderID=0
    2. Download and install the ADF Facelets library
    https://facelets.dev.java.net/servlets/ProjectDocumentList?folderID=3990&expandFolder=3990&folderID=0
    3. In web.xml add the following:
    <context-param>
    <param-name>oracle.adf.view.faces.ALTERNATE_VIEW_HANDLER</param-name>
    <param-value>com.sun.facelets.FaceletViewHandler</param-value>
    </context-param>
    4. Make sure your project's libraries have loaded your Facelets and ADF Facelets, as well as ADF Faces Runtime.
    5. Begin using UI Components as desired.
    Example: http://eugeneciurana.com/pastebin/pastebin.php?show=1308
    Extra notices:
    I had to comment out the following in my faces-config.xml as it conflicted with the web.xml setting:
    <view-handler>com.sun.facelets.FaceletViewHandler</view-handler>
    This is what worked for me, I hope this helps others out there.
    Thanks,
    Rick

    We don't automatically migrate the adf-faces-api.jar since in a 10.1.3.x ADF Faces application this JAR is not part of your project's WEB-INF/lib directory.
    The issue must be specific to migrating this Apache Trinidad example.

  • ADF Faces 11g Skins

    Hi!
    How should we create ADF Faces 11g Skins ?
    does the mentioning the skin family used in trinidad-config.xml file reflect for the ADF Rich Faces as well?
    What about the new RC Components ;They do not have any similar components in Trinidad,I suppose.
    so where can we get the complete information of all CSS Classes that are to be used with new ADF Rich Faces Componenents?
    Can you point me to source where I can get the information about all CSS Classes for RC Components , and how to change Skins in 11g for RC Components and Trinidad Components , for I use a mixture of Both,some times.
    Thanking you in advance,
    Samba

    Sassira,
    Here is an article to get you started:
    http://jdj.sys-con.com/read/273945.htm
    This link oulines all of the skinning key:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/adf/adffaces/11/doc/skin-selectors.html
    And here is a thread that outlines how to get started:
    Could not get resource key af_componentX.XXX from skin
    Hope that helps.

  • CSS Classes documentation for ADF Faces

    I could not find any document where css classes for ADF Faces components have been listed. I want to build custom skin and i needed it badly. Anybody knows where it is?

    Hi,
    Try http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/jdev/tips/fnimphius/adffaces_skin_selectors/AdfFacesSkinSelectors.html. Note that you can always use Firebug to get the right class name, assuming you set the following parameter in web.xml:
    <context-param>
      <param-name>org.apache.myfaces.trinidad.DISABLE_CONTENT_COMPRESSION</param-name>
      <param-value>true</param-value>
    </context-param>~ Simon

  • Resizable frames in ADF Faces

    Hi all!
    We have jspx-page.
    We are using ADF Faces HTML component <afh:frameBorderLayout>, which contains 2 <afh:frame> components for division of page content into areas.
    As a result html-page is generated, and it has 2 frames, but end user can NOT change frames width by draging.
    How can we fix that?
    Is there something like html "noresize" parameter in <afh:frame>?
    many thanks for reading this
    any help will be appreciated
    Renat

    I have the same issue and the quick answer is no. If you look into the source you will find that in the renderer oracle.adfinternal.view.faces.ui.laf.xhtml.FrameRenderer.java that noresize is hard coded.
    They must have had a reason (I hope) but I have no idea what the reason is. Maybe its something for Trinidad or someone from oracle can supply the reason.
    Thinking about ways to overcome this issue

  • Weblogic Portal 10.3.5 using JSF 1.2 portlets with ADF faces

    We are developing Portal site using Weblogic Portal 10.3.5 with JSF portlet 1.2 and ADF faces (ADF Application runtime 11.1.1.5 ). But the JSF portlets not supporting ADF faces. Please let me know how we use ADF faces in JSF portlet 1.2 in Weblogic Portal.

    Hi Murthy,
    We did a detailed analysis.
    (1) How do we add ADF taskflows, JSF in to weblogic portal desktop/pages? Do we create portlet out of JSF, and display on desktop/page? If this is the case, what about ADf task flows?
    --> Taskflows can be deployed as WSRP2.0 portlets. Note 2 options are there JSF page as portlet or taskflow itself as portlets.
    (2) How do we integrate weblogic user profiles and UUP (unified user profiles) with ADF and JSF?
    --> ADF Security can use Weblogic Server realm as the security provider. Entitlements in WLP will have to be provided based on Weblogic Server roles. In case you are using external LDAP then both can be integrated withe external LDAP
    (3) Can anybody shed some light which this better?
    (a) weblogic portal with JPF (Java page flows), NetUI --Legacy approach
    Pros:
    -Easy Development
    -Well tested integrated
    Cons:
    -Future support
    -Enhancements may not be available
    -Not really portable or standards based
    (b) weblogic portal with ADF, JSF?
    Pros:
    -If your on Oracle stack then great
    -Standards based
    Cons:
    -JSF Portlet bridge issues
    -ADF Faces does not work on IE6!
    Well what we are going for is JSR 286, Trinidad components (Supports IE6), JSF.
    Difficult choice.

  • Oracle ADF Faces integrated in Oracle JDeveloper: Freebie?

    Hi room, I'd like to ask if Oracle ADF Faces, the version integrated in Oracle JDeveloper (this is a freebie) is a Freebie also, any1 knows, do share. Thanks a lot.

    Hi,
    no, it isn't. If you are looking for free software, have a look at MyFaces Trinidad, which is the open source - and thus free - version of ADF Faces

  • ADF Faces: Exception Handler activity ain't reraised

    Hi there!
    I'm using a Studio Edition Version 11.1.1.3.0 (Build JDEVADF_11.1.1.3.PS2_GENERIC_100408.2356.5660).
    I've done this:
    1. created a bounded task flow flow1 and added to it:
    1.1 a vew activity view1 (the default activity) - shows an inputText field for a db column, for which there is a constraint;
    1.2 a method call activity method1 - calls commit;
    1.3 a view activity view2 - has an ouputText depicting an attribute's value for the same collection as that of inputText in view1;
    1.4 a view activity errorView (marked as an exception handler) - displays a localizedMessage from the currentViewPort;
    1.5 created for the view activities page fragments (with necessary fields and buttons).
    2. linked them as follows:
    2.1 view1 -*-> method1 -*-> view2;
    2.2 errorView -*-> view1.
    3. in the default unbounded task flow created a view activity main, a page file for it, and dropped onto the latter the flow1 as a region;
    4. launched the app (as the table contains some data, the view1 displays first row in a row set);
    5. entered into the view1 's field a non-violating value;
    6. pressed a button (which has just an action property set to move to the method1 ) - everything's fine, we get to the view2;
    6. rerun the app;
    7. entered incorrect value, pressed the button - flow goes, as expected, to the errorView, which informs us the exception's details (JBO-...);
    8. on the errorView page fragment pressed a button - we are now on the view1 page again;
    9. left the wrong (violating) value (or changed it to another incorrect value, doesn't matter) and pressed the button again;
    10. wow, we reached the view2, but, I guess, we hadn't to. Why so?
    One must note, that in clauses 7 and 9, after pressing the button, there apears a popup, which advises us about an ORA-... error, that is, in step 9 the ADF Faces does receive the exception, but why it doesn't reraise the errorView, that's the question.
    Though, when I change the method1 so, that it calls a bean's method, which always throws an IllegalArgumentException, then everything works as should to - we get to the infinite loop - view1 -> method1 -> errorView -> view1.
    Or, when I extract view2 from flow1, and instead of the former insert return activity with End Transaction set to commit, and then wrap (i.e call) flow1 from a newly created bounded task flow flow2, and in main 's page replace flow1 with flow2 region, the result is quite different. The aforesaid popup with ORA- error arises, until one enters a non-violating value. That is in this case everything is good, except, that control never flows into the errorView.
    And there is one more thing to note yet. When I've, namely method1, been calling a bean with the ever exception throwing method, the Integrated WLS's log was silent, but when the method1 was calling commit, then in the log we can see this twice:

  • Problem using ADF Faces Runtime 11 Library

    Hi All,
    I am trying to use tr:Command link to open a dialogue.
    When i run my application including only the JSP Runtime, JSF 2.0, JSTL 1.2 and Trinidad Runtime 11 Libraries my application seems to work fine and a popup is opened.
    However when i include the ADF Faces Runtime 11 library the popup is opened in the same window as a web page.
    The same problem is also encountered when using tr:table with ADF Faces Runtime 11 library.
    The height of the tr:table changes dynamically with the number of rows displayed but when i include ADF Faces Runtime 11 library a fixed height is displayed for the table.
    I need to include the ADF Faces Runtime 11 library for fetching data from application module.
    Can anyone help me out or explain why this happens.
    I am using Jdeveloper 11G.

    Hi John,
    I am actually migrating a project from JDeveloper 10G to Jdeveloper 11G. As u suggested i have removed the ADF Faces Runtime Library from my classpath and included the ADF Model library. When i run my application i am getting the following exceptions.

  • How to add adf faces in component pallete of jdeveloper 11g?

    how to add adf faces in component pallete of jdeveloper 11g?

    Hi,
    the replacement of ADF Faces HTML components in JDeveloper 11 is Trinidad. For existing applications, a migration path will be provided in JDeveloper 11 production. I wouldn't recommend configuring ADF Faces in JDeveloper 11.
    You an configure ADF Faces Components in JDeveloper 11 by :
    - Tools --> Manage Libraries
    - Create a User Library
    - select ADF Faces adf-faces-impl.jar
    - Enure the namespace is not af or afh but something different to not cnflic with teh ADF Faces RC components
    Note that adding the ADF Faces components to the component palette will not make them show in the ADF binding context menu nor will it automaticaly set up the web.xml file. The components are available as any other JSF library set
    Again, I wouldn't go this way ;-)
