ADF Mobile : Switching Networks

JDeveloper 11.1.2.4.0
ADF Mobile extension: 11.1.2.4.39.64.44
Hello,
I've noticed in my ADF Mobile app that if the phone switches networks, (say from WiFi to 3G), my web service calls work and return data ok, but a message pops up with:
"Cannot connect to <host> on port <port>:java.net.ConnectionException:Connection refused."
I'm guessing this has something to do with the IP address of my phone changing when it switches networks? Anyone seen this before? Any help would be much appreciated.
Cheers, Rich.

What is the <host> in the message? Is it 127.0.0.1?
Use 10.0.2.2 instead.

  • ADF Mobile - Get network status

    OS: OSX 10.8.5
    JDEV: 11.1.2.4
    ADF Mobile Extension version: 11.1.2.4.39.64.51
    HI All,
    I'm currently in the middle of developing an ADF Mobile application and exploring the offline/online capabilities and have run into an issue where i'm trying to determine if the user has network connectivity, but its not working properly. I'm trying to make the app as dynamic as possible such that, for every transaction that requires network access, the app will check beforehand whether it is "connected" or "disconnected".  I've tried the following but not quite got there..
    1) From the link below, Joe does make note that the EL Expression "#{deviceScope.hardware.networkStatus}" to resolve the network status is only evaluated at start up, which is good for when the app opens.. but not good when the user loses network connectivity.
    Re: JDeveloper  ADF Mobile -- Android Context
    2) The link below uses javascript to evaluate the network connectivity. This works first time and every subsequent time afterwards, however, I would like the javascript to ONLY evaluate the network status and then populate a pageFlowScope variable with true or false. This bit also works fine. From here, it may seem that the pageFlowScope variable has been populated, but if the java method (which calls the javascript function to check the network connectivity) also includes code that reference the pageFlowScope variable that the javascript has just populated, it is not evaluated properly.
    Example:
        public void checkConnection(ActionEvent actionEvent) {
            // This works fine and populates the PageFlowScope variable fine
            AdfmfContainerUtilities.invokeContainerJavaScriptFunction("feature1", "application.checkConnection",
                                                                              new Object[] { });
            // The two lines below do not work properly, as if its retained the old value of the pageFlowScope.
            ValueExpression ve = AdfmfJavaUtilities.getValueExpression("#{pageFlowScope.isConnected}", String.class);
            throw new AdfException("isConnected: " + (String)ve.getValue(AdfmfJavaUtilities.getAdfELContext()), AdfException.INFO);
    Unwinding ADF: Offline Data Synchronization for ADF Mobile
    Below is a link to a sample app that i made and the steps to reproduce:
    https://app.box.com/s/ng5n362unttu7b88i42b
    - Have network connectivity
    - Click on the "Check connection via JS' button the first time
    - The popup in the foreground is the javascript showing the connectivity, which is correct
    - The popup in the background is an INFO AdfExpection showing the connectivity, which is INCORRECT
    - Click OK twice
    - Click on the "Check connection via JS' button the second time
    - The popup in the foreground is the javascript showing the connectivity, which is correct
    - The popup in the background is an INFO AdfExpection showing the connectivity, which is CORRECT
    - Click OK twice
    - disconnect your computer from the network/internet
    - Click on the "Check connection via JS' button the third time
    - The popup in the foreground is the javascript showing the connectivity, which is correct
    - The popup in the background is an INFO AdfExpection showing the connectivity, which is INCORRECT
    Has anyone has similar use case has have a work around/solution? This is driving me nuts!
    Cheers,
    Eddie

    Hi Frank,
    Thanks for the quick reply.
    That's exactly what i've used in my javascript function in my demo app and that link is the resource i used as well, however, that javascript code does populate the pageFlowScope variable fine, however, if i make reference to that pageFlowScope variable from within the same java method that includes the call to the javascript function, it does not get the updated pageFlowScope value. Only after the transaction has fully completed and i then [for example] click on a button on the screen to evaluate the pageFlowScope variable again, do i get the updated value.
    Having a stab in the dark, could it be something to do with the way the javascript is executed when updating the pageFlowScope variable and lifecycle of that transaction
    I've also tried this under the code where it populates the pageFlowScope, but it can't resolve the expression, seems like i'm doing something wrong..
    navigator.notification.alert('pageFlowScope value: ' + adf.mf.el.getValue("#{pageFlowScope.isConnected}", onSuccess, onFail), alertDismissed, 'Connected', 'OK');

  • Not able to access SOAP web service data control from adf mobile

    Hi,
    I am trying to call web services from adf mobile..
    I have created data control from external web service and it is perfectlly working on web browser..
    But why it is showing an error on emulator??
    Is there any .jar file missing in adf mobile so that it is not supporting a web service?
    Or is there any other problem? Emulator is connected to network and I am able to run WSDL in emulator's browser..
    Please help me to solve this issue..
    Thanks,
    Laxmi

    Emulator is connected to network and I am able to run WSDL in emulator's browser..
    Connecting to WSDL in the browser is not the same as connecting to WSDL in an application.
    To access a web service from an Android device enable a permission in AndroidManifest.xml that allows applications to open network sockets. Add the following uses-permission element.
    <uses-permission android:name="android.permission.INTERNET"></uses-permission>

  • ADF Mobile: HTTP Status Code 500 Internal Server Error

    Hi,
    I wrote a SOAP web service and deployed it to my standalone ADF Server. I tested it with the HTTP Analyzer, works great. I used it in a Web Service Data Control in normal ADF Web - works perfect. It returns a table of data as programmed. However, ADF Mobile gives me errors: "Http Status Code 500 Internal Server Error: The server encountered an unexpected condition which prevented it from fulfilling the request".
    I developed an ADF Mobile interface with an amx page. I created the same Web Service Data Control and created a List View based on the data control. The error pops up every single time, both on iOS simulator and Android Simulator.
    I know the simulators have network access to the web services - because i can open the web service test page and WSDL from both simulator's internet browsers.
    I know the web services are running - because my ADF Web application can access it.
    Any ideas?
    Thank you!
    -Gavin

    Thanks for the reply. There were no errors in my WLS server. However, I will add some statements to my web service to write to the log file. That way i can see if or at what point is the web service is being accessed by the mobile app.
    Thanks,
    Gavin

  • ADF Mobile Error handling and redirect

    I'm stuck on how to handle errors within my ADF Mobile application. My application consumes a number of web services and we have found we often get error messages when phone connections switch from wifi to 3g or lose connection altogether. These are errors such as SSL handshake failure, HTTP500 errors, and also errors where it can't display the binding eh "Unable to get value for the property due to invalid binding iterator" because a WS call has failed. From the little information I can find - and none of it specific to ADF Mobile, I think I need to write an error handler class which I set against ErrorHandlerClass in databinding.cpx - if that correct? Am I able to catch these errors using that method and if so has anyone got any examples at all. Ideally what I'd like to do when I've caught those errors is redirect to another page (showing something like facebooks app does when it loses a connection and says tap to try again), does anyone have any suggestions or examples?
    thanks

  • ADF Mobile - Phone Performance Issues

    Hello,
    I've been using ADF Mobile for a while now. All's going well - I'm able to access web-based data services etc and everything seems to work. I do have a couple of couple of questions regarding performance on the phone though and I was wondering if anyone could offer some help/advice etc.
    I've followed all the steps here: https://blogs.oracle.com/mobile/entry/configuration_tips_for_better_performance
    ...but with no visibile improvements. My issues are:
    <1> Once the app is deployed, starting it for the first time takes around 2 minutes. All subsequent start-ups of the app after this take a couple of seconds, even after a shutdown of the phone. I'm not sure how to determine what exactly is happening during this phase, and why this takes so long just the first time? The duration for this also seems to have increased as I've added pages to my app, and as it only has 4 at the moment I'm concerned that adding much more to it will make the problem worse.
    <2> I use "listItems" on most pages in a "panelGroupLayout", and the scrolling performance is very poor. All other apps I have on my phone scroll very smoothly. With my ADF app, you drag your finger to scroll up or down and there's a noticeable delay before all the rows move in one go with no visible scrolling actually taking place. This happens even when all the rows to be displayed are loaded on to the page and there's no more calling of the web service necessary. I've deployed the sample "DeviceDemo" to my phone and the "Properties" page has the same problem. The scrolling is very poor.
    I've done a fair bit of Googling on this without much success, Any help or suggested reading on any of this would be very much appreciated.
    Cheers, Rich.

    Currently there is no 'solution' for this problem.
    A quote from Joe
    Joe Huang wrote:
    Hi
    First you would need to deploy the application in "Release Mode". This requires you to create a Java Keystore and a certificate using the Java keytool, and then you would use it to compile the app. If you have done that, then can you please help explain what these pages are doing, and observed performance?
    Unfortunately Galaxy Tab 2 is a bit old - if you have done everything to optimize the app, this could be due to older Android OS. Android OS (especially version 2.x) does not support HTML5/JS well, and performance is much worse than HTML5/JS running on Android 4.x devices. This is more than just HW differences - this is primarily due to the web engine used by the webview.
    This is also somewhat a general issue with Android - Chrome is a much faster browser on Android, but unfortunately the webview (which ADF Mobile leverages) is not yet based on Chrome. If and when they switch to Chrome, the JavaScript/HTML5 support would start to rival that of the iOS.

  • How to implememnt sync capabulity in Oracle ADF mobile Application?

  • ADF Mobile App integration with webservices, connection refused error

    I created an ADF application for department search with business components and exposed this as a webservice. I can access the WSDL locally from a browser. Then created an ADF mobile application and deployed it to android emulator. I am able to deploy the application to emulator and I can see the app on Android emulator. When I try to search for any department, I am getting "cannot connect to localhost on port 7101 : connection refused". My server is started already and the port number is also correct. Did any one came across this issue before? Even the WSDL URL is not accessible from the browser of android emulator.
    Edited by: adf_forum on Nov 16, 2012 2:16 PM

    Hi,
    One more thing to keep in mind is that Android emulator is itself a network host, and localhost will likely loop back into itself, i.e. emulator. Please try to set up the WLS to listen on an actual IP address for your development machine, create your WS DC using this real IP address, and then try to deploy/run the app.
    If you need to retrofit your app with an new IP address, please keep in mind there are several places you would need to manually fix up, including the connections.xml file.
    In general, if the device emulator's browser cannot hit a web service, then the ADF Mobile app will also not be able to hit a web service.
    The most reliable way is to treat the emulator like an actual device, then work out your application's connection accordingly.
    Thanks,

    Hi, Shirleen, I have recently uploaded a new version of the sample mobile application to Oracle Technology Network that would work with the latest/current version of JDeveloper (11.1.1.1.0). Please try to download it at http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/wireless/adf_mobile.html.
    Also, from the error message I am unable to see anything specific that could help, but I would just make sure that you have FOD schema already downloaded and installed, and have configured the database connection in the sample application to point to the database running the FOD schema.
    Thanks,
    Joe Huang

    Hi Joe,
    Thanks for the reply!!
    As per your instructions i created two classes 1.GetConnection.java and 2.PictureBean.java
    in GetConnection.java i written following code
    package Picture;
    import java.sql.Connection;
    import java.sql.SQLException;
    import oracle.adfmf.framework.api.AdfmfJavaUtilities;
    public class GetConncetion {
    public GetConncetion() {
    super();
    protected static Connection conn = null;
    public static Connection getConnection() throws Exception {
    if (conn == null) {
    try {
    // create a database connection
    String Dir = AdfmfJavaUtilities.getDirectoryPathRoot(AdfmfJavaUtilities.ApplicationDirectory);
    String connStr = "jdbc:oracle:thin:@fusion.networks.com:1521:fusion"+Dir+"/DeviceDemo.db" ;
    conn = new SQLite.JDBCDataSource(connStr).getConnection();
    System.out.println("connection*******"+conn);
    } catch (SQLException e) {
    // if the error message is "out of memory",
    // it probably means no database file is found
    System.err.println(e.getMessage());
    return conn;
    and in PictureBean.java the following code i modified..
    package Picture;
    import java.sql.Connection;
    import java.sql.PreparedStatement;
    import java.sql.SQLException;
    import oracle.adf.model.datacontrols.device.DeviceManager;
    import oracle.jdbc.pool.OracleDataSource;
    public class PictureBean {
    public PictureBean() {
    super();
    String src;
    private int quality = 25;
    private int destination = DeviceManager.CAMERA_DESTINATIONTYPE_FILE_URI;
    private int source = DeviceManager.CAMERA_SOURCETYPE_PHOTOLIBRARY;
    private boolean allowEdit = false;
    private int encoding = DeviceManager.CAMERA_ENCODINGTYPE_JPEG;
    private int targetWidth = 0;
    private int targetHeight= 0;
    public void setQuality(int quality) {
    this.quality = quality;
    public int getQuality() {
    return quality;
    public void setDestination(int destination) {
    this.destination = destination;
    public int getDestination() {
    return destination;
    public void setSource(int source) {
    this.source = source;
    public int getSource() {
    return source;
    public void setAllowEdit(boolean allowEdit) {
    this.allowEdit = allowEdit;
    public boolean getAllowEdit() {
    return allowEdit;
    public boolean isAllowEdit() {
    return allowEdit;
    public void setEncoding(int encoding) {
    this.encoding = encoding;
    public int getEncoding() {
    return encoding;
    public void setTargetWidth(int targetWidth) {
    this.targetWidth = targetWidth;
    public int getTargetWidth() {
    return targetWidth;
    public void setTargetHeight(int targetHeight) {
    this.targetHeight = targetHeight;
    public int getTargetHeight() {
    return targetHeight;
    public String GetSource(String result) {
    String src = "";
    if( getDestination() == DeviceManager.CAMERA_DESTINATIONTYPE_DATA_URL ) {
    src = "data:image/gif;base64,";
    src = src + result;
    System.out.println("src value in GetSource is "+src);
    return src;
    public void setSource(String result) {
    PictureBean pb1=new PictureBean();
    String src = "data:image/gif;base64,";
    if( getDestination() == DeviceManager.CAMERA_DESTINATIONTYPE_DATA_URL ) {
    src = "data:image/gif;base64,";
    src = src + result;
    public String GetSource(){
    return src;
    public boolean savePicture() throws Exception {
    boolean ret=false;
    PictureBean pb=new PictureBean();
    String pic= pb.GetSource();
    try{
    Connection conn=GetConncetion.getConnection();
    conn.setAutoCommit(false);
    String insertSQL ="INSERT INTO IMAGE(ID,PIC) VALUES(?,?)";
    PreparedStatement pStmt = conn.prepareStatement(insertSQL);
    pStmt.setInt(1, 1);
    pStmt.setString(2,pic);
    pStmt.execute();
    conn.commit();
    ret = true;
    }catch (SQLException e) {
    System.err.println(e.getMessage());
    } catch (Exception e) {
    System.err.println(e.getMessage());
    return ret;
    and i created one button in Result.amx page and in Action Listener i had given #{bindings.savePicture.execute} and deployed into Android mobile.But i am neither getting error nor getting save picture into database.
    while i run PictureBean.java class alone the following exception occurred.

  • Cannot find 'Mobile Data Network' button for iphone 4 using virginmobile.

    Hi,
    I use an unlocked iPhone 4 with the latest 7.1.2 iOS. (At least the latest you can get for that phone.)
    I recently switched from O2 to Virginmobile to get better coverage. (The EE network is so much better.)
    However I cannot send MMS and emails (whether I'm connected to WiFi or not). I cannot access internet when I'm not connected to WiFi.
    I have called 789 at least twice to get this resolved. Each time they failed because of the missing button: 'Settings/Mobile/Mobile Data Network'.
    Cellular Data Network etc is not there either. I cannot find the button anywhere.
    Virgin did give me the details of what to enter should I one day find a way. Although I had got this off the internet already. I was calling them because I cannot find that button! They seemed to expect it to be there.
    I have tried resetting all settings and also resetting just the network settings.
    The button was available when I was using O2. MMS, email, internet all worked fine because I could set it up manually. The button dissappeared when I switched to Virgin.
    So my questions:
    Should I be able to see this button?
    If yes, what has gone wrong?
    If no, how can I set the apn etc settings correctly?
    Please note that I have contacted Virgin via the community forum and over the phone to no avail. They suggest I talk to Apple to see if they know why the button has disappeared. They suggest it may be because the iphone has been unlocked.
    My household has an iphone 3gs, two 4 and one 4S. All seem to be missing the button or equivalent.
    Any help gratefully received.
    Regards,
    Ronnie

    What does it say in your "About"? Go to settings>General>About and it should tell you your carrier. If you have carrier service but it does not show, you might want to contact them again. If the carrier name shows, but you do not get service, try Settings>General>Reset>Tap Reset Network Settings. You will need to enter your wifi password back in afterwards.

  • ADF Mobile dead?

    Hallo,
    I have a client that wants me to make an ADF application for the Samsung Galaxy Note. I am trying to find information about ADF Mobile but all I can find is old information. The mobile blog hasn't been updated for almost a year, the "live demo site" is completely dead and I find conflicting information: I am now not sure whether to use Trinidad components because ADF Faces apparently isn't suited for mobile browsers, but the demo for the iPad does use ADF Faces because it supports touchscreens.
    I am using JDeveloper 11.1.1.6. Can anyone help me get more information or demos? Has anyone here built an application for a mobile browser, and if so, how?
    thanks for the information
    Wendy Tromp

    Thanks Shay, but I already saw that page and it doesn't have that much information. As I said, the link to the live demo site is dead and the blog hasn't been updated for almost a year. It seems to me that Oracle isn't really paying attention to the mobile market anymore.
    Right now the focus is on developing a webapp for a smaller screen basically, features like using GPS and the camera are a nice to have, we'll see about that later.
    I have fiddled with the trinidad components and with a firefox user agent switcher, but i see no difference, so what is the added value of ADF Mobile Browser? And if Jdeveloper 11gR1 and R2 are supposed to be the same release with the only difference of the JSF version why is the tutorial found on that site in R2 with completely different menu options and design view options from my 11.1.1.6 installation? All I can pick in design view is tiny resolutions, no larger than 320x320. Nobody uses that anymore.
    I a nutshell, Oracle Mobile seems to be forgotten by Oracle, I am really disappointed :(

  • ADF Mobile: Client state access failed to establish a place for storage

    Hi,
    I hope it's fine to ask about adf mobile in this discussion room.
    following problem:
    While switching from two views/pages, both display a list, an error was thrown with the message: "Client state access failed establish a place for storage: null".
    From the list view, I can navigate to see the details of the list-element. This error message wasn't shown up if I navigate from the details back to the list overview.
    The application is developed using jdeveloper 11.1.2.4 and deployed on iPhone simulator 6.1 (xcode version 4.6.3).
    There is no further information about this error in the log file. I'm not really sure if this message is really coming from the framework itself.
    Has anyone probably ever heard about this message? It'll really helpful.
    Thanks!

    Hi.
    I got this error message once. I was trying to copy the full selected row for a table in the view scope using a setPropertyListener. Something like this:
    <amx:setPropertyListener from="#{row}" to="#{viewScope.visit}" type="swipeRight"/>
    This will not work. The workaround is not to be lazy and simply copy the row attributes you need one by one.
