Adobe After Effects CS4 Crashes After Reinstall

Hello Adobe Community,
I come to you asking for help, my After Effects CS4 stopped working after reinstalling Leopard, I already reinstalled my Suite and Runned the Clean Up Script and still not working, first I launch the App and shows me the following error: "After Effects has encountered an error: [/Chinchillada/pro/ext/adobe/MediaCore/MedialLayer/VideoFilterHost/Make/Mac/../../Src/AEP luginVideoFilterModule.cpp-107]" then I click continue and then it shows me another error: "After Effects can't continue: An Output contract violation has ocurred!" then it shows another error: "After Effects warning: Failed to initialize mediacore" then it shows this "After Effects warning: Media Core is not correctly initialized" then it launches and freezes and shows that the app quitted unexpectedly, I'm sure that the app is dead but I already reinstalled with no success.
Im Running:
Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.7
Intel Core 2 Duo 2GHz
1 GB Ram
After Effects worked and runned perfectly Please Help!
Mike

Hi Mike,
Sorry you are experiencing problems with After Effects.
I have a couple of questions....
- did you install from a download, or a CD? if from a download, please download again, as their may have been issues
- did you update it to v 9.02?
- did you have a previous beta version on your computer?
- you said you reinstalled Leopard - did you do a clean install? (ie reformatting your harddrive and starting clean)
I have experienced issues on the mac with a variety of different applications is I do a 're-install" vs a clean install.
Finally, are you aware that the minimum RAM requirements for AE CS4 is2GB
So since you only have 1GB, it could be a RAM  issue.
If you decided you want to try reinstalling before doing the more difficult task (reformatting Mac OS X with a clean install), I would run the cleanup script first, redownload, install, and then update.
Here's the link: <http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cs4clean.html>
good luck,

  • Adobe After Effects CS4 Crashes During Startup

Hey I have a major problem i think.. after I installed AAE CS4 I picked the trial to see how it was b4 i bought it. Once everything was installed and complete I restarted my computer but when I went to open the program it pulled the grey aae startup box. It had 4% complete and said Initializing Media Core then it just stops and minutes later crashes with not progress. It continually does it with no improvement. Anybody that can help me?

I did all of the above:
    - 9.03 update
    -   1. Go go Control Panel -> System-> Advance System settings
         2. Click Advanced tab, Performance -> Setting
         3. Click Data Execution Prevention  -> Turn on DEP for all programs except those I select - > Here you click Browse and choose where your AE CS4 location is, and click Apply -> OK .
    - Run as administrator
Nothing worked. I still get the crash at start-up with the message
    <960> <AppDirs> <5> Required Dir=
    C:\ProgramFiles\Adobe\Adobe After Effects CS4\Support Files\Required.
and after that sorry, AE can'r continue..
Help me please, I have the 30 days trial and I desperately need to learn how this program works for a project. After that I want to buy it.
My system is 32bit Vista Windows, I installed AE CS4 (that's the last one to run on 32bit right?) and did an update to 9.03.

  • After Effects CS4 crash on start-up: "Sweetpea failure"

    Hi folks,
this is my first post here in this forum, so I send best wishes to you all.
Here is the problem I am facing since today.
I am running CS4 Master Collection with the latest updates on my 64Bit Windows 8.1 Pro machine which is also up to date.
The hardware I am using is the following:
    Intel Core i5-4670K @ 3.40 GHz
    16GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GTX660 running driver version 335.23
    Realtek Audio Card (on mainboard)
1x SSD for WIN and PROGs
1x 10000RPM HDD for footage and data
1x RAID 0 consisting of 2 HDD for working files and cache
The setup worked great. Then I installed Mocha AE 3.2.1 which worked as well fine and did not interfere with the performance of CS4.
But after installing the "mocha 3D track importer for AE 1.1.0" plugin from Imagineer Systems, After Effects did not start anymore, stopping with the statement:
    "After Effects can't continue: Sweetpea failure (48 § 58)"
This is what I already tried:
deleting the mocha 3D track importer Plugin
    restarting Windows
    stopping Kaspersky Anti Virus
uninstalling After Effects followed by a reinstall
uninstalling whole CS4 and running the Adobe Clean Script
reinstalling CS4 in clean Windows boot
    uninstalling Mocha AE 3.2.1
    reinstalling Mocha AE 3.2.1
performing an extended Google and Adobe Community Search, but:
this problem seems to happen not quite often to others
the solution in this thread is not available anymore and my audio drivers are setup fine
solutions in further threads are for MAC-OS only
I am actually running out of ideas as even reinstalling all relevant software - except OS - did not solve the problem.
Does anyone in the community have an idea on that subject?
Thanks a lot for any help and
    best regards,
    Michael

Thank you Todd for your effort.
Well, I fully understand and respect that Adobe does not grant any liability for CS4 under Win8 as they made the effort to develop and introduce newer releases of their software (namely CS5, 5.5, 6 and now CC).
As with that CS4 gets a little sign at the toe saying "deprecated" - which in fact is totally legitimate because their might be no capacity to thorougly test it.
But: just by saying that it will definitely run under Vista and it is not tested for reliability on Win8, it does not mean that it won't run under Win8.
In fact: Microsoft itself grants, that this specific software will be compatible with their OS and I may assume that my previous experience and that of those many other users running the combination happily, shows that CS4 is such a great product that it does its job stable on Win8 which is not the OS it was designed for.
My practical experience on that, having used CS4 on Vista and Win 8.1 both, moreover showed that it was horribly unstable under Vista and ran absolutely stable on Win8.1 till - well, yesterday.
Back to the topic: I do cast doubt on the theory that this specific issue, I explained above, is caused by incompatibility with Win8.1, that is because:
if it was related to Win8, many other users would have reported that issue
After Effects worked fine and stable under Win8 for quite a time till yesterday
all other Applications that I use from the bundle cause no trouble at all
To find back to the starting position where all the applications worked fine, I would like to know if you might suggest any troubleshooting - except buying a new Software package.
There might an option to turn on some kind of logging to see, what AE is doing until it halts, but I actually do not know how and where - so maybe you have more information on that.
The only thing I could realize at the meanwhile is, that by the time AE throws the Exception it shows the progress message "Cleaning up... Tracker Controls" on the splash screen in the background. This might be a hint to the previously used plugin from Imagineer.
Do you have suggestions how to savely remove a plugin like that?
I thank you a lot and send
    best regards,
    Michael

I'm using CS4 ONLY because I have a 32 bit Windows 8.1 computer which has Nvidia GFX card and an i5 processor.
It has 4GB of RAM and that's all you need to know. Please help me guys. <3
    Thnx,

What I meant was that it was running at all was a lucky happenstance.

Could Adobe actually see my personal data of my computer and just put an error message there to prevent me from using After Effects just because they realized that I have a Windows 8.1 32 bit computer?
No. There is no way they could do that. Especially not in CS4.
There are a lot of people in the same situation as you who pop on the forums with some frequency. Well, not usually trying to run such an old version - it's usually CS5 or CS5.5, but the issues are similar: odd error messages. Trying to run old versions of software on new, unsupported operating systems can be a fun exercise (like getting Linux installed on a potato). However, even if it does work for a while, the least little thing can cause it to foul up. Maybe Windows updated, maybe a background service that wasn't running before is running now, maybe something subtle changed in your registry or your display settings or any of a thousand different things. The bottom line is that something changed between when it was working and now.
The error message seems to indicate some sort of issue in your registry. That is a tricky area to mess around in. Have you installed ANYTHING on your computer between when it was working and now? Added any browser extensions? Installed any codec packs? Downloaded any apps? Updated any software?
By the way, it's not very expensive to bump up to a 64-bit version of your OS if you did want to use a modern version of After Effects. I mean, if you want to continue working with After Effects, it would be a lot easier to use an older OS or a newer AE than to keep trying to kludge it like we are.

  • After Effects CS4 crash - Drag Layers etc. - Edius is the problem

because it nearly drove me mad,
to find a nasty little bug i'll post it here -
if you ever have the problem of after effects crashing, when you try to pick, drag a layer or an effect and you can't resolve it,
check if you got Canopus Edius installed...
this is the program, that causes the problem...just deinstall it, and you're fine...
i firstly got over the whole tips section "what to do if afx crashes", reinstalled the suite, nearly reinstalled the whole system :(
and it was just luck, that i stepped over this problem...
so i hope this can save you time...
perhaps the support team should get it into known issues?
the nasty thing about it, the developers right over at Canopus seem to know about this bug for over a year now, but they won't do anything ... shame on them

    Thanks for posting this, Robin.
Please, whenever you find a bug, send a description to [email protected] or fill out the
bug-report/feature-request form. That is much more reliable than counting on someone from Adobe seeing a post on a user-to-user forum.

  • After Effect CS6 crashes after splash screen

I cannot get After Effects to open. When I try to open the software, I get a splash screen, and then the window opens, but the it stops responding before the interface can appear. I thought the issue may have been my virus protection (norton), so I tried shutting down my firewall and restarting my computer. This seemed to work for me the first time I tried it; After Effect opened and everything seemed to work fine, but the next time I started the computer and opened the software it continued to crash, and what I thought was the solution no longer worked. Premiere, Photoshop, and Audition work fine. However, the trial version of FX Home's software, Hitfilm 2, gives me the same problem as well. I have tried alot to get both of these programs to work with no success. I would appreciate any suggestions as to how I might fix this.
    Computer spec:
    win 7 64-bit
    intel i7 960 3.2ghz
    12 gb ddr3
    nvidia 560 ti

Updated to 310.7 from 306.97, but still no luck. When after effect stops responding there is sometimes a dialog box asking me if I want to send my information. This dialog box does not always appear every time I try to open after effects, but when it does, this is the additional information it gives me:
Files that help describe the problem:
    C:\Users\Owner\AppData\Local\Temp\WER9F1C.tmp.WERInternalMetadata.xml
    C:\Users\Owner\AppData\Local\Temp\WER193B.tmp.appcompat.txt
    C:\Users\Owner\AppData\Local\Temp\WER19AA.tmp.mdmp
However I can't find these files on my computer. This is also the same information I get when trying to open FX Home's software, except when I try to open that software I do not get a splash screen or window, the .exe shows up for a few seconds in the task manager and disappears.

  • After Effects CS4 crash during start - MAC

    Hello
I have problem with AE CS4 on my mac. I downloaded trial from adobe. Instalation pocess was ok but during start after few first sec. AE is closing themself. There is no massage from AE. Only system is giving info about unexpected closing due to AE error.
Is any body the same problem? If you can, please help me with this or give me info about links where can I find solution.
    Thank you

I found the problem and now is working ok. I had to turn off font "Zebra". I think that the same reason for crashes on start was before updateing AE.
    INFO.
If you have the same problem like me, the best way is:
Turn off "Zebra" font - Aplications/Font Book. Select all fonts in left collumn. Then select zebra font and remove mark below (turn off). Start AE. If problem still exist, use this link:

  • After effects cs4 crashes on import

ok, what am I doing wrong?!? I created a 3d object in photoshop and when import it into ae it crashes, spinning pinwheel...no crash reporter or anything! Just an unresponsive ae with the spinning pingwheel...
anyone run into this? is there a way around it?

Before anything, are you sure it doesn't come back? Because some rendering modes and options in Live Photoshop 3D can take a lot of time to update (when you're within Photoshop, you get a rough OpenGL based preview and then you have to wait for the proper render. Since AE uses a headless version of the PS 3D engine to render, you only get the final render. And this can take time). It could not be the case for you, but it's worth checking it. Give it some time, and see if the app updates after that. Some 3D rendering options are expensive in terms of time, in any renderer.

  • Premiere Pro CS5 and After Effects CS5 crash after splash screen

Im am fed up with this ive done everything i can and no one seems to know whats wrong, i installed CS5 on my macbook and imac i7, and they both worked for a while but then suddenly my imac i7 cs5 stopped working and kept crashing, my macbook continues to work just fine, ive even done a system reinstally and reinstalled os x and yes it would work for a little and then stop, they both have the same programs, whats weird is when i create a new user with admin privileges on my imac it would work fine but i deleted some files in the main account trying to fix the problem and no it wont work in the second account so here i am doing a system reinstally one last time. i called adobe they were no help at all literally, i called apple they did as much as they could i mean apple really made me feel like they tried, so here i am can anyone help?

Ok so i figured it out, the problem is my downloaded fonts from the internet. What sucks is that adobe cs4 applications ran perfectly fine with them, but now cs5 doesnt . I uninstalled my downloaded fonts and guess what?! it worked! I wonder why cs4 starts up with no problems with the same fonts and cs5 cant, thats just stupid...
