After Effects CC Script UI issues

Hi there, some information I gleaned from discussions on the Indesign forum.
Might be good to have one thread where various issues are discussed in one place.
Keep in mind these issues being discussed over there are showing up in InDesign not After Effects.
I have not tested these, it's just stuff others are talking about - I have yet to fix my scripts for CC.
So if anybody has info... wishes to discuss....
What people are talking about:
The stacking order on Windows has changed to be the same as the Mac's.
Horizontal Scrollbar and Vertical missing issue
The unenabled icon button show's as the enabled one and some combination of both of them show when unenabled
     - issues with creation properties - toggle
Image positions jump (a pixel) sometimes on clicking a radio button and sizes of panels have shrunk
Treeview -  http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1235394?tstart=0
- issues with foreground and background colors...
Script UI fonts and sizes are locked.
many events and listeners such as 'focus' or 'onDraw' not work as they did (or are simply discarded);
the layout manager 'stack' orientation now causes weird problems;
panels with {borderless:true} creation property are not borderless;
other widgets don't support ScriptUIPen and ScriptUIBrush customization anymore;

function buttonTest(txt){
            var win = new Window ("dialog","test",undefined);
            win.graphics.foregroundColor= win.graphics.newPen(win.graphics.PenType.SOLID_COLOR, [.7, .7, .7], 1);
            win.graphics.backgroundColor= win.graphics.newBrush(win.graphics.BrushType.SOLID_COLOR, [.2, .2, .2], 1);
            //add group
             var b = win.add("group");
             b.graphics.backgroundColor= b.graphics.newBrush(b.graphics.BrushType.SOLID_COLOR, [.5, .5, .7], 1);
             b.addEventListener ("click", function (m){handleMouseDown(m,b)});
             //overlay text
            var bText= b.add('statictext',undefined,txt);
            bText.enabled=false;
            bText.preferredSize.width=300;
            var buttonClose = win.add("button",undefined,"Close");  buttonClose.preferredSize= [130,20];
            buttonClose.onClick = function (){ this.parent.close();}//close the window.
           // bText.onClick=function(){
            //On click works in the ESTK on a group not in AFX - so using an event listener.
              //  this.parent.graphics.backgroundColor= this.parent.graphics.newBrush(this.parent.graphics.BrushType.SOLID_COLOR, [.1, .1, .8], 1);
              //  $.sleep(300);
              //  this.parent.graphics.backgroundColor= this.parent.graphics.newBrush(this.parent.graphics.BrushType.SOLID_COLOR, [.5, .5, .7], 1);
            //On click-------------------------------
            function handleMouseDown(ev,theButton){
                theButton.graphics.backgroundColor = theButton.graphics.newBrush(theButton.graphics.BrushType.SOLID_COLOR, [.9, .1, .1], 1);
            //On click-------------------------------
            win.show();
}//close

  • How to link layers in After Effect by script?

    Hi!
    Is it possible to link one layer to another in After Effect by script?
    I would build the custom effect with parameter like "Gradient Wipe" have: Gradient Layer.
    The idea is: this connection is independent from the layer number. That mean any layers delete, re-ordering etc will not affect this connection.
    Thank you in advance!

    Seems I've found the way...
    I've used "Layer" parameter:
    But there is another question:
    How to update the "old" Custom Effect in my AE projects?
    The problem is:
    If I'm changing the Custom Effect's content in PresetEffects.xml (adding the new parameter) then I can't load the old projects with old Custom Effect on layers.
    Can I avoid this?

  • Outline of After Effects CS4 scripting changes

    Here's a link to a blog post that provides information about the new and changed features in a sparse outline format:
    "After Effects CS4 scripting changes"

    > We use no compression because the LED signs will not take any file that is compressed. I assumed that meant there was no codec involved. Is there a codec applied in CS6, even though it is uncompressed?
    What Rick and I are getting at is: when you render from AE, in the Export Settings dialog there is a codec field; what do you set that to?
    Quick terminology lesson. Codec and compression are not the same thing. When you encode video, you are always using a codec. Most codecs use compression, but some do not. "None" or "Uncompressed" codecs do not use compression.
    After Effects does not add any compression other than what you specifiy in the Export Settings dialog. There should not be a significant difference between the files produced from AE CS4 and AE CS6. AVI, as a format, has not changed in many years. In other words, we know of no difference that would specifically cause this problem.
    If the LED sign software has a problem with an AVI from AE CS6, we need to know the requirements of the LED sign software and how that AVI is failing it. So far all you have told us is "other people say it doesn't work".

  • After effects & Adobe Bridge preview Issue *freezing*

    Hello all,
    I wanted to begin learning After Effects CS4, unfortunately Adobe Bridge CS4 is halting my education.
    If I explore any kind of After effects CS4 preset, and preview it inside of Adobe bridge, my pc freezes. The preview window, within Bridge CS4 turns blank white while it freezes,
    the Windows toolbar of Adobe bridge, says not responding temporarily, if a wait a little while around 30-45 seconds I regain control of my pc again, the preview box occasionally will show a still image and sometimes it will stay white or flicker. If I do wait the 30-45 seconds the toolbar window no longer says 'not responding' I can click to a (non) After effects preset folder, (for example) 'My family pictures' and it will operate normally but if I go back to the After effects CS4 presets again the freezing will occur once more.
    What I find strange is that Adobe Bridge previewing, works absolutely fine for my photoshop documents, Illustrator documents, and any Jpeg photos I have, all after effect presets fail to preview, regardless of type if it's a still shape background or animated sprite, the same freeze issue occurs
    I was wondering if anyone has helpful tips?
    so far I have downloaded all important driver updates for my graphics card, my card is a nVidia GeForce 7900 GS 256, I have also reinstalled bridge and AfterEffects, I have downloaded all the relevent players.
    I am a Windows vista user, also I have enough RAM I believe, just over 3 Giga
    I dont know how useful the info is on my Pc spec is, but I thought it could be worth mentioning.
    I have looked for a few hours to find some kind of thread with a similar problem I have been unsuccessful, I hope someone can help
    Kindest regards Julian

    Hi Curt y,
    I do have the latest Quicktime player installed, I would'nt have have thought that would halt me previewing CS4 after effect still shapes and backgrounds? but.. I'm not to sure if I'm honest.
    well I tried uninstalling and reinstalled my player still no sucess sadly.
    do you know roughly what date all these old threads popped up?
    I'm going to scavenge for them anyway in the the hope I find something useful. *must be positive*
    thank you Curt y, for giving me some of your time.
    regards Julian

  • Adobe After Effects CC Time Warp Issues

    Anyone on here proficient in After Effects CC? I'm attempting to mess around with time warping to see if I can mimic the slow motion effects of a high frame rate camera, but the issue I'm running into is that when I slow down the footage at a certain point in the clip, it will slow down, but when it's back to real time speed the frames don't match up. And I haven't found a way to stretch out the length of the clip so the frames do match up. Any advice?

    You need to read up on time remapping. For example: you have a 30 second clip shot at 30 fps and you want to play a clip at normal speed for the first 10 seconds, then, and heres the hard part to wrap your head around, slow down the next 10 seconds to 1/4 speed to simulate shooting the clip at 120 fps, then play the last 10 seconds at normal speed. The hard part to wrap your head around when you do this is that the middle 10 seconds will now take 40 seconds to playback.
    Here's what you do:
    Enable time remapping
    Note that there are 2 keyframes, one at the first frame and one that is 1 frame past the end of the video (I won't explain why it is there but trust me it makes sense)
    Move your CTI to the 10 second mark and set a new keyframe by clicking the diamond in the Keys column in the timeline
    Move the CTI to the 20 second mark and set a new keyframe
    Extend the length of the composition to one minute and ten seconds (this is some of the hard part to wrap your head around)
    Move the CTI to the end of the extended composition and set a new out point for your video by pressing Alt/Option + ]
    Now move the CTI to the one minute mark (one minute because the middle 10 seconds is now 40 seconds long so the end of the slow mo section will move from 20 seconds to 1 minute
    Select the last two keyframes and drag them to the left until the keyframe originally set at 20 seconds snaps to the one minute mark and the last keyframe is one frame past the out point of the clip
    That's all there is to it. Your new modified video plays at normal speed for the first 10 seconds, 1/4 speed for the next 40 seconds, then resumes normal speed. You can check out the speed graph to verify the speed change and even modify the curves so the change in speed is smoothed out, but if you do that you should have decided before you moved the last two keyframes and set two additional keyframes at san 10:10 and 19:20 to give you a few frames to ramp up and ramp down your slow mo.
    The thought process is the same no matter what technique you use to change the speed in the middle of a clip. If you want to return to normal speed after the speed change you need to define the outpoint of the speed change and move the outpoint and the end point of the speed change down the timeline for slowing down a clip or up the timeline for speeding one up to return the clip to normal speed.
    Now all you are stuck with is how to make the slow motion segment look smooth because you are repeating four frames at a time. Twitter is probably the best tool for this but it is expensive. AE's frame blending does a fairly good job on most video. Some video will not successfully slow down more than 1/4 speed no matter what software you use. Some video will slow down to 1/10 speed just fine using nothing more than Time Remapping. It all depends on the shot.

  • After Effects CS6 - Initializing Mediacore Issue - More Complex.

    Hi, I recently got After Effects CS6, and I have had the program open a few times - when I say a few, I mean 4 or 5, all in the same day, and I was only opening and closing the program to check to see if I'd installed plugins correctly. So, anyway back to the point; I sat and created a 10 second clip for which I was going to use for a YouTube intro. I finished and exported the clip, only to find that after I had saved and closed the program, the clip I had exported was some form of .AVI that had encoded incorrectly (or something similar, this part isn't particularly relevant.) Then when I tried to re-open AE, the program hung at the 'Initializing Mediacore...' section of the loading screen, and it has done for a while now. I have tried restarting, re-installing, removing the 3rd-party plugins, and re-intalling QuickTime. I've been reading all the forums and looked up the issue on YouTube, and all the answers are wrong or lacking information about my issue. Every working answer I find is either about about a Mac issue, or any Windows issue keeps mentioning these 3 programs; Adobe QT32 Server.exe, dynamiclinkmanager.exe, and PProHeadless.exe, none of which I have.
    I run a 64-bit, Windows 7, Acer Aspire with 4 GB of RAM. Any helpful - emphasis on the helpful there - information will be greatly accepted.
    Cheers.

    The executables are in the program directories. Still, none of that is probably relevant. Something is damaging your media cache and/or blocking those services from even launching, which takes us back to basic trobleshooting steps which are:
    Run as admin
    Turn off security tools
    Verify file and folder permissions on the temp and user directories
    Cehck drive integrity and health

  • Adobe After Effects CS4 Scripts

    Hi,
    I have Adobe After Effects CS4
    Does anybody know where I can download
    Some Free After Effects Scripts?
    Like, Cubes, Cylinders, etc?
    Thanks
    Phillip

    See "Where to find additional useful scripts" for a listing of some of my favorite resources for scripts.
    I'm confused by the "Like Cubes, Cylinders, Etc." part of your message. You specifically want to use scripts to make cubes and cylinders? Whatever the case, you can probably find what you're looking for with the After Effects Community Help search. For example, this search for 'script cube' pulls up several useful results that provide links to projects and scripts for making 3D cubes in After Effects.

  • Adobe After Effects CS6 (Creative Cloud) issue

    Hello everyone,
    One of my colleagues approached me with a problem today regarding After Effects CS6. Whenever she inserts a video the upper half turns black, while the other half is being showed properly. When the video is being played outside of AE the video is being showed properly. When she does render this video, the rendered video will include the black half. The picture shown below is an example of how it looks:
    I updated the videodrivers just to be safe, but that did not help either. Does anyone have an idea on how to fix this problem?
    Thanks in advance!

  • After Effects CS6 Audio Preview Issue

    I am completely baffled on this one. The audio preview function in After Effects isn't working at all, whether I try to play the sound on its own or within a composition. I tried importing another file and applying a tone effect to a layer, neither of those played either.
    I have checked everything I can think of. Sound on the clip is enabled, the waveforms look like they should. The sound works fine when I open the file with another program. I tried playing it with and without headphones plugged in with the volume all the way up, still nothing.
    Whether I scrub through holding ctrl, hit (.) or use RAM preview, no sound comes out.
    Audio preview is enabled.
    Visually the audio levels fluctuate here as they should, but no actual sound comes out. Mute isn't on, as you can see there. Here is the file itself:
    When I tried rendering, the sound WAS there in the output file. It's just previewing any sound within AE that isn't working. I need to sync sound and animation for this project so this is pretty debilitating as far as my work goes. I closed AE, restarted, etc., nothing changed. It seems like there must be some place that audio preview isn't enabled but I am out of ideas and no fixes I found on the forum so far have helped. If anyone has any ideas I'd be very grateful to hear them.

    I'd check preferences - audio and your audio settings on the system. Speaking of the system What OS? What kind of sound device?
    Did you try a wav file?

  • After Effects + Cinema 4D speed issues

    I have an 8-core MacPro with 32 GB of Ram and the dual 6GB video cards. I've set up multiprocessing with the latest version of After Effects (CC). I have set up the Ram allocation per bg CPU to 1.5 to get 14 cpu. I have reserved 8 GB for the os and other applications.
    I've noticed that AE is not fully tapping the processors with the multiprocessing option. I am working on a project which I've incorporated Cinema4D elements and I have noticed that multiprocessing with Cineware is none existent. When Cineware is called up for Cinema4D elements in the comp the Cineware just does its thing at a quicker of the speed it would have been rendered from Cinema4D.
    Is everyone else at the same cross roads with AE and its lack of optimization with Multiprocessing and Cineware? I find this ridiculous having seen how much faster Cinema4D is with rendering on the latest MacPro and After Effects not utilizing the processing power like Cinema4D has.
    Is there any recommended way to work around this while Adobe drags their feet on the matter.

  • After Effects 4K Title & Animation Issue

    Hello,
    I am having an issue implementing titles for my project in PP that were created in AE. I had someone make me title animations and logo animations for me. He designed them for 1920X1080, but my footage and sequence is 4096 X 2160, and now he's on vacation for three weeks in Europe.  I have all the assets and project files for this project. I tried to do a simple change in the sequence settings of the comps but that didn't solve anything. I also tried scaling up the layers but then the animation paths got messed up. How can I re-size the titles so they match the sequence correctly?
    Thanks,
    Ben
    AE - 11.0.2.11
    MAC OS X - 10.8.3
    4K RED Footage - 4096 X 2160

    Check the comp resizer script that comes with AE and there's a similar, more advanced floating around on AEScripts or AEnhancers somewhere. Though the aspect ratios being slightly different you may still need to intervene manually. If ev erything is based on shape layers, vector artwork and text layers, enabling the collapse transformations switch might also allow scaling the pre-comps up without any loss of quality whiel retaining the animation...

  • After Effects CS4 - core recognize issue

    Hello,
    I encounter 2 problems in AE CS4.
    1) When it opens is says "using 2% of 4GB".( I have 8GB of RAM). Altough, in memory&cach tab it sees my entire 8 GB of RAM.
    2) It sees only 2 core from my I7 proccesor instead of 4 (or 8 eventualy)
    My system is brand new,  spec are those:
    Intel Core i7 920 2.66GHz skt 1366 Nehalem
    Video card Gigabyte GeForce GTX 275 Super OC 1.79GB
    DDR3 448-bi
    RAM 8GB Kingston HyperX  (2GB*4)  DDR3 1600MHz
    MBoard Asus P6T SE
    Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit OS
    Please let me know if enyone has any suggestions.
    Robert

    My soft is legit and activated, i already done all those things and searched for updates. No luck.
    The only change i made to my system after installing AE is adding some extra 2GB of RAM, same categ as the other 6.
    AE recognized before that all 4 cores. Don't know if it has any connection with that. Maybe it is because of the triple chanel thingh on my MB, not sure. I will add soon another 4 so it will be 12.
    AE CS3 sees all 4 cores, np there. Other app see all cores too.
    And what is Turbo Boost btw? Are you reffering about the TurboV option for overcloking in Asus MB? Or something else?
    And i just read on Microsoft site that AE CS4 is not fully tested on Windows 7 64bit. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compatibility/windows-7/en-us/Details.aspx?type=Software& p=Adobe%20After%20Effects%20CS4%20%20Professional&v=Adobe&uid=&pf=0&pi=0&s=fter%20effects& os=32-bit Maybe that's one reason of the problem...
    Enyway, today i will reinstall AE and give it one more try.

  • Cannot prevent ExtendScript debugging while running scripts from After Effects

    Hi,
    I am facing this issue while running scripts from within After Effects. Whenever I am trying to run a script in After Effects, the script opens up in ESTK in the debug mode. The execution waits at the starting point of the script as if there is breakpoint even though there is none. I am not sure whether what I am missing, whether some debug flag needs to be reset etc. I am using After Effects CC on Windows 7 OS. Any help would be highly appreciated.
    Thanks.

    I tried running the script after removing all $.writeln() statements, but unfortunately that does not resolve the problem. For testing the issue, I am trying with the simple script given below :
    var window = new Window ("palette", "My Window", undefined);
    var panel = window.add("panel", undefined, "Panel");
    var text = panel.add("statictext", undefined, "Testing AE");
    window.show();
    But executing even this one from AE opens up ESTK. I am absolutely stuck with this odd behaviour .

  • After Effects CS5.5 Wont Open - Application Just Bounces In The Dock.

    Hi all,
    I appear to have encountered a problem with After Effects... I was working on a project earlier today which usalizes a VideoCopilot plug-in called Element 3D. After a quick break I came back to the project and attempted to load in the 'Free Earth Project' by VideoCopilot. (http://www.videocopilot.net/blog/2012/08/free-earth-project-for-element-3d/). As their site suggests, I had to place a downloaded project folder called 'Earth' into Element 3D's 'My_Models' folder. Immediately after this I tried loading After Effects and encountered the issue. I'm not sure if it's couincidence or directly related which is why I am posting here.
    After Effects does nothing but bounce in the Dock. When I right-click the application I'm met with a 'Force Quit' option, and a message saying "Application not responding". I'm on OS X 10.7.4. I'm not able to tell you what version of AE I'm running, only that it's CS5.5, as I cannot lanch it to find out. All other Adobe products work with no problem.
    I have already contacted the support team at VideoCopilot and they have sent me an updated build of Element 3D in an attempt to resolve the issue, unfortunately though this did not work. Addiitonally, I have tried booting into Safe-Mode and tried to launch the application from there, as well as using Disk-Utility to 'Repair Permissions'. All of these steps have failed to get AE working again.
    If anyone knows of a way to fix this I would be most grateful. I'm working to a very tight deadline and am afraid that I will miss it. Additionally, if anyone has any fixes that doesn't require reinstalling applications that'll be a bonus!
    I've also attached a crash-report to this post incase it's of any use in determining the cause of the problem (I couldn't find a way to attach it directly, so the file is hosted on my website - I apologise in advance if this is against forum rules!) -  http://www.starfireindustries.org.uk/uploads/8/6/6/1/8661295/ae_error_report.rtf

  • After Effects Error: rendering error while writing to file...Output Module failed - 1610153646

    Hi – I’m currently working with someone who is running After Effects 5.5v10.5.0.253 on a PC which is running Windows 7 Ultimate. The computer has just recently been built and the software is newly installed. (ie. a couple of weeks old, max). Up until now, we have been using After Effects with no real issues. But tonight, we started to see the following error message, when trying to render something out:
    “After Effects Error: rendering error while writing to file xxxxx. Output Module failed, the file may be damaged or corrupted -1610153646” – displayed during render, which meant the render failed.”
    We started to review forums to see if we could come up with a fix and tried a few of the more common suggested solutions, including:
    Make sure there are no third-party plug-ins or Windows incompatible elements installed - as it’s a pretty new install, we haven’t added anything except out-of-the box elements.
    Clear the render queue – did this, no change.
    Reinstall Quicktime – did this, no change.
    Reinstall Creative Suite – also no change.
    Check the default program to open .mov files is Quicktime – Quicktime was already the default.
    A bit more detail about the machine...
    Ram is 32gb
    GPU is GeForce GTX 660ti
    250gb soild states
    2tb raid drive
    Any help would be much appreciated. This is now happening on all AE files, even files that worked fine earlier in the week. Other than the AE and QT reinstalls mentioned above, nothing new has been added to the machine this week. On a deadline – so a quick response would be amazing, right about now. Thanks.

    Hi Mylenium- thx for the quick response. We have have tried a bunch of different settings. AVIs work and we can do image sequences too. The only major problem seems to be with Quicktime files. While I appreciate your suggetion to convert with AME - this is only a workaround. Was really hoping for a solution that will fix the problem in After Effects? Heard rumor from a few friends in the biz, that this is a major bug... if possible, some feedback from Adobe product devs or someone with a technical background would be great! Thx.
