After upgrading to pacman-3.5.1-1 package update fails

Hi all,
I just updated to new pacman version pacman-3.5.1-1 and then tried to update my system using
  pacman -Su --ignore kernel26,kernel26-firmware,kernel26-headers,nvidia,nvidia-utils
which caused the following error:
(50/50) checking package integrity                                     [###########################################] 100%
(50/50) checking for file conflicts                                         [###########################################] 100%
error: failed to commit transaction (conflicting files)
talloc: /usr/lib/libtalloc.so.1 exists in filesystem
talloc: /usr/lib/libtalloc.so.2 exists in filesystem
I tried
> pacman -Qo /usr/lib/libtalloc.so.1
error: No package owns /usr/lib/libtalloc.so.1
Same for /usr/lib/libtalloc.so.2
Any hints?
Cheers, Zmann

What is the output of `ls -l /var/lib/pacman/local/talloc-*` and `pacman -Qi talloc`? What is the record of that package from pacman.log?

I was today invited to upgrade my iTunes when I logged on.  Update failed. Every time I now try to open iTunes I get error messages.  Second message reads "iTunes was not installed correctly. Please re-install iTunes. Error 7. Windows error 126". I now can't sync my iPhoneand I am worried that if I re-install I will lose all my contacts, calendar, notes, etc.

I too had this problems (Windows 8.1).  A few weeks ago after the previous update before this version of itunes, I'd had a problem with the itunes store crashing and at that time I followed instructions to copy QTMovieWin.dll to the itunes folder, which fixed the store crashing.
Today I fixed the problem by:
    Delete QTMovieWin.dll from C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes.
Uninstall ALL Apple Software using Control Panel / Programs and Features.  I uninstalled:
    iTunes
    QuickTime
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Apple Application Support
    Apple Software Update
    Bonjour
    Delete the folders:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple
    Restart the computer
    Reinstall QuickTime
    Reinstall iTunes
Everything works GREAT now, including the iTunes store.  You will not lose your media files, I got everything back, all my settings, playlists, etc.

  • After upgrading to 10.9.5, the App Store "Update" button stopped working.

After upgrading from 10.9.4 to 10.9.5 tonight, the App Store "Update" button seems to have stopped working.  The App Store says I have one update available (Xcode version 6.0.1), but when I click "Update," the button turns white for a few seconds, and then it turns back to gray without doing anything.  I've tried the same steps after restarting my computer twice.
    A screen shot is below.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

  • X11 not starting after upgrading to 10.5.4 using the combo update

Because of a bug in Package Maker included with XCode 3.1 I ended up breaking my complete OS. After re-installing Leopard and using the Combo Update to 10.5.4 I am not able to run X11. I was able to use it prior to re-installing, but then I got the upgraded incremental via the online update.
It reports this on the console (a lot)
/usr/X11/libexec/x11-exec: Unable to find application for org.x.X11
It seems that this has already been reported to Apple, who acknowledged it as a bug. Is there any new from Apple on if / when / how this issue can be resolved other then by installing a separate application ? Will installing the Xquartz package allow me to install the fix when it becomes available ?

Search these forums for X11. There's been some recent traffic on X11.

  • After upgrade to win2K, my AT-GPIB/TNT(pnp) fails 3rd test in Getting

    Started Wizard Hi,
I upgraded my PC to win2k from win98, and loaded GPIB drivers ver. 1.70.
After that my GPIB board fails to pass the "GPIB Interfaces Sequentially

possible to communicate with instruments in IBIC, and it's not.
My board shows up in the device manager, and doesn't report any

I played with GPIB configuration and tried to uninstall and reinstall

  • After upgrading to Yosemite my I photo will not update

My iPhoto will not update because of a error with a previous owners password my brother owned the iMac before me he signed out of everything.

Signing out does not eliminate the problem: If he didn't erase the hard drive and reinstall the original OS, you will not be able to update the app(s) as they are tied to the Apple ID used to obtain them and the license is not transferable. This is spelled out in the licensing agreement; your options are: not to update apps and never reinstall the OS, or:
if it came with Lion or later, use internet recovery, wipe the drive, and reinstall the original OS; after that, update to Yosemite. If it came with Snow Leopard or earlier, use the install DVD to wipe the drive and reinstall, then update.

  • After upgrading wikis to OSX, some wikis page have "updating page" keep going and never end

This is the screw I have that keep going on and not allow me to edit or access the page. I have upgraded from OS Snow Leopard server to OS X server and migrate the Wikis over.

    Anyone can help?

  • After upgrading to Yosemite my iPhoto won't open, update not allowed

Recently updated to Yosemite and now my iPhoto can't be opened, I tried to update the app from the App Store but it tells me that I am not the original purchaser (I am, I've never had another Apple account).

Recently updated to Yosemite and now my iPhoto can't be opened, I tried to update the app from the App Store but it tells me that I am not the original purchaser (I am, I've never had another Apple account).
The error message is not very appropriate. It essentially means, that the iPhoto that is currently installed on your Mac is not associated with your AppleID.  It may suffice to accept iphoto and other iLife applications to your AppleID.
Sign into the App Store with your AppleID (from the Store menu), open the "Purchases" tab and check, if there are any preinstalled apps that need accepting. Then press the "Accept" button.
Now try again to update or reinstall.
If iPhoto does not show on the Purchases tab at all, delete iPhoto from the applications folder (don't empty the Trash), then go to the main tab of the Apple Store (the Featured tab), enter iPhoto in the search field, and install.

  • HT1338 After upgrading from Lion to Mountain Lion I cannot update iPhoto, iMovie and GarageBand

    Hi all
On my iMac 27 (2011) I see that these updates are available but clicking on "Update all" gives me  the error message "These apps cannot be accepted on this computer. Future updates will be available through "Software Updates"" Any idea?
I can, however, download apps from the app store. That works.
    Appreciate your ideas.

  • I'm iPhone 4 users and it is OS 6. Yesterday I upgraded to OS 7 after upgrade is complete difficult to download the application, often fail. Why is that?

    Please read and answer. Thankyou

You are on Windows 2000, you do not have a "Firefox" button, and should consider yourself to be fortunate in that you still have menus and don't have to do anything to get the menus back instead of the "Firefox" button. (The same applies to Windows XP users).
Use the "File" menu to get to Import. You are not on Windows 7 or Vista, and don't have to put up with the nonsense added for Aero.
If you want the "Firefox" button you can get it with View -> toolbars -> (uncheck) Menu Bar. The menu bar and the "Firefox" button were supposed to be mutually exclusive (which is impossible in some cases without being incompatible).
Once you are using the "Firefox" button ...
Use the "Alt" key to view the menu bar (temporarily) containing File, Edit, View, History, Bookmarks, Tools, and Help. On Windows 7 and Vista, the menu bar was hidden by default in Firefox 4 and above. These menu items are more or less available under the "Firefox" button which has the most used of the built-in Firefox menu items available in a different format.
To get back to having menus again. "Firefox" button -> Options (second column) -> (check) Menu Bar
You can make '''Firefox 7.0.1''' look like Firefox 3.6.*, see numbered '''items 1-10''' in the following topic [http://dmcritchie.mvps.org/firefox/firefox-problems.htm#fx4interface Fix Firefox 4.0 toolbar user interface, problems (Make Firefox 4.0 thru 8.0, look like 3.6)]. • Gnome-Shell in Gnome 3.2 not working after upgrade

    Hi guys,
after upgrading from Pacman, Gnome-Shell does not start up correctly. After login the Gnome-Keyring pops up (as usual) and after entering my password Gnome-Shell crashes ("oops.. something went wrong bla bla").
I could resolve this problem by deinstalling Empathy.
So basically I just wanted to inform others who may experience the same problem. Anyone knows why Empathy does not work correctly?

I don't have this problem, but I have issues with Empathy's new clutter-based call UI not coming up.  May be the problem is with clutter??

  • Problems with init 5 after upgrade.

Hi, I've got an three months old installation of ArchLinux in a VirtualBox machine and after upgrading with pacman, I can't get into init 5 anymore. I've followed all the instructions, updated the configuration files, etc. If I boot in init 3 and start x manually, it works well. The problem is strange, after entering init 5, when starting GDM, the screen flash between the graphical and the console mode, there's a warning (or error) message but I don't have time to read it and I'm not sure in which log file I could find it.
P.S.: I'm running xmonad over Gnome.

I've finally fixed it, but I'm not sure how! Here's what I've done:
      * Edited rc.conf to remove dbus from the DAEMONS list
      * rebooted, now GDM evidently wouldn't start, but at least I was able to log into the console
      * Put back dbus in the DAEMONS list, at the exact same place
And now it works! That was really strange, now I just have to remember how to get GDM to work nicely with xmonad, I've done last week on another machine, so it shouldn't be that hard.

  • Cannot update my iPhoto after upgrading to Yosemite

27" iMac, 2.93 GHz i7 processor, Yosemite 10.10.  Can no longer use iPhoto after upgrading.  I get a message that this update is not available for this Apple ID because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled.  How do I fix this?

You must be logged in using the Apple ID used to purchase iPhoto or to set up your Mac - If you are logged in with the Apple ID that was used to purchase iPhoto or to set up the computer if it came preinstalled then quit iPhoto, backup your iPhoto library  and drag the iphoto application to the trash (do not empty the trash yet) and then go to the App store and install iPhoto
If this does not allow you to upgrade then you need to contact App store support  - link i son the right of the app store window

I try to purchase Pages (after upgrading to Maverick OS) and keep getting this message:
Failed to verify the preflight file. It is not signed by Apple.
How to I get past this?  I cannot find anything referencing preflight file.  Who can identify this?

    Back up all data.
Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Keychain Access in the icon grid.
    From the menu bar, select
Keychain Access ▹ Preferences ▹ Certificates
There are three menus in the window. Change the selection in the top two to Best attempt, and in the bottom one to  CRL. Log out, log back in, and test.

  • After upgrading to 10.7.2 Time Machine has failed

    Hi everybody,
After upgrading to Lion 10.7.2 Time Machine has failed and won't mount the Time Machine drive.
I use a WD My Book Studio LX for my Time machine and also have a smaller WD My Book daisy chained through it in to the iMac with 2 partitions.
Both of the partitions on the My Book are loading fine and the Studio LX Drive is on and functioning ... the light is blinking away like a good'un ... but the drive won't mount on to the Desktop.
Has anyone else experienced this or have any possible solutions for it?
    Thanks
    Simon

I znever realized that you need to add firmware updates, since Apple sells this but doesn't provide any instruction or information on use. I had my WD external since about May and just looked into adding necessary firmware. This was my second drive and was not aware of this necessary upgrade. If failed to recognize my drive so I contacted Westen Digital and after a series of emails they said sorry but Lion is not supported! I was dumbfounded and in disbelief. They tried to
Get me to upgrade to another model but didn't tell me about any cost. I called the Apple store where I purchased it and talked to. Manager who brought on the phone a genius. He told me he has one and it does work with Lion! He walked me through adding the firmware and there you go Apple knew more than the Tech support at WD! I am hoping someone at Apple will read this and contact WD management and tech support to get their act together.
    Regards,
    Barry
