this is my error ORA-28547: connection to server failed, probable Oracle Net admin error (DBD ERROR: OCISessionBegin)
hi,
ORA-28547: connection to server failed, probable Oracle Net admin error
Cause: A failure occurred during initialization of a network connection from a client process to the Oracle server: The connection was completed but a disconnect occurred while trying to perform protocol-specific initialization, usually due to use of different network protocols by opposite sides of the connection. This usually is caused by incorrect Oracle Net administrative setup for database links or external procedure calls. The most frequent specific causes are: -- The connection uses a connect string which refers to a Heterogeneous Services agent instead of an Oracle server. -- The connection uses a connect string which includes an (HS=) specification.
Action: Check Oracle Net administration in the following ways: -- When using TNSNAMES.ORA or an Oracle Names server, make sure that the client connection to the ORACLE server uses the correct service name or SID. -- Check LISTENER.ORA on the connection end point's host machine to assure that this service name or SID refers to the correct server. -- Confirm in TNSNAMES.ORA or the equivalent service definition that the connect string does NOT contain (HS=).

Deepak

ORA-12505: Database Instance and Agent Connection to Instance will not work
Hi,
I have the following error: in Oracle 10g I try to connect to OEM and the listener is up but the Database Instance and Agent Connection to Instance are down. When I attempt to restart the instance, OEM will just hang indefinitely. I have used tnsping and the results are OK. Is that descriptive enough? What can I do to fix this?
regards,
JohnI changed the SID because I was mistaken and thought of the oracle database name. I have corrected the ORACLE_SID to that given in my tnsnames.ora file which I post here:
ORACLE =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = Lasirius-laptop)(PORT = 1521))
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SERVER = DEDICATED)
(SERVICE_NAME = oracle)
EXTPROC_CONNECTION_DATA =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS_LIST =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = EXTPROC1))
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SID = PLSExtProc)
(PRESENTATION = RO)
These are the default settings that were made on installation. I have been working with this installation for 2 months, and it just suddenly stopped working. I have changed no other settings apart from the mistaken ORACLE_SID environment variable in this post, which has now been changed to PLSExtProc. Here is my init.ora:

Agent Connection to Instance error in Oracle Database 11G EM
Hi
I am getting the following error message when logging into EM on Oracle 11G Database.
Failed to connect to database instance: ORA-12541: TNS:no listener (DBD ERROR: OCIServerAttach).
Users can connect to the database no problem and it shows the Database Instance down, Agent Connection to Instance failed. The General tab shows green and the database is up.
I have checked the emctl status and lsnrctl commands and the listener is up and servicing the database. I checked the ORACLE_SID environment (in Windows Server 2003) and this is correct.
I have recently changed the passwords for SYSMAN and DBNSMP which were due to expire and since then the EM console has not loaded correctly.
As I said the database is up and can service users through their application.
Any help would be appreciated.
Respect.Hi
The listener is up and is handling the database and users are connecting succesfully. I think it is more to do with the Enterprise Manager.
Can anyone give me some further info to troubleshoot?
Regards

Agent Connection to Instance - Failed ORA-12541
Hi folks, I recently changed the SID (but not name) of my database. Everything has been working great, but I get the following error message in OEM after it's been running for about 10 minutes:
Agent Connection to Instance
Status Failed
Details Failed to connect to database instance: ORA-12541: TNS:no listener (DBD ERROR: OCIServerAttach).
Since everything else is running fine (everything else in OEM is working fine, network connections via SQL Developer, Toad, JDBC, I'm not sure where to look.
I also have a second server running (on which I haven't changed the SID) to compare to. Outputs of lsnrctl services, the tnsnames.ora file, and everything else seems to line up.
I'd be happy to post anything that might be useful, thanks very much!Hello,
recently I was hitting the same problem:
Listener Status: Up
Agent Connection to Instance Status: Failed
Details Failed to connect to database instance: ORA-12541: TNS:no listener (DBD ERROR: OCIServerAttach).
It turns out that the message is misleading and the problem lies in the locked dbsnmp account. I resolved that through
Grid Control / Targets / Search List / (Select DB with problems) -> Configure
where it showed the following error:
"java.sql.SQLException: ORA-28000: the account is locked The Connect Descriptor was (description=(address=(host=xx)(protocol=tcp)(port=xxxx))(connect_data=(service_name=xx)(instance_name=xx)(UR=A)))
Change dbsnmp Password - The error message shown above indicates that the agent is unable to monitor this database because the agent cannot logon. To correct this, the Monitor Password needs to match the corresponding database password for dbsnmp. To change both the dbsnmp database password and the Monitor Password, click the Change dbsnmp Pasword button. This operation will also unlock the dbsnmp user."
It is possible to change the password from that dialog what I did. It is working fine now.
I do not know if the problem lies in accout locked or wrong password after all, but repeating the configuration resolved the case.

Agent Connection to Instance Unavailable
Win2k3 64 bit
Oracle Database 10g Release 10.2.0.5.0 - 64bit Production
I brought up a new 10.2.0.5.0 db on Win2k3 64 bit server. Everything is working fine, at least it seems so. This server has been running for 2 months now and this issue kept coming up in the last 2 months.
Database Instance status is Open
Listener status is Up
General status is Up
Agent Connection to Instance is Unavailable.
Users SYSMAN and DBSNMP are OPEN.
This will be the 3rd time in the last 2 months if I rebuild EMCA again.
Is anyone else besides me experiencing this issue? Why is this happening and how do I fix it permanently?1.Post the output of :
SQL> select global_name from global_name;
SQL> show parameter db_domain;
2.lsnrctl service
3.lsnrctl status
4.Did you change the hostname?
5.Is timezon of agent and console the same?
6.In the file $AGENT_HOME/sysman/config/emd.properties, make sure the following parameters are correct. Obtain the values from $OMS_HOME/sysman/config/emd.properties
1. REPOSITORY_URL
2. emdWalletSrcUrl
3. emdWalletDest (ensure that this destination is present on your management server).
7.If you're using Data Guard in 11g for primary/standby configuration, you may want to check the Data Guard configuration status. With this type of error, it's usually caused by the database parameter setting for log archive that differs with the Data Guard config for log transport and apply. For example, if the local archive log destination on the primary is pointing to the standby site instead of local archive directory (or local flash_recovery_area), The GC will generate this error and blank out the options for database instance in GC.
I am just pasting the above texts from different forum link when I just said "Agent Connection to Instance Unavailable" to google.

OEM not connecting to DB Problem not seen on this forum
Hi,
I installed Oracle 10g db server release 2 (10.2.0.1.0) and let it create a default database for the test purpose.
I received no errors during installation.
I tested the connection via SQL*Plus, and iSQL*Plus and it works fine.
But when I tried to run Enterprise Manager it can not connect to database instance.
database is open
listener is up
Agent connection to instance succeeded
I followed link Recovery Settings and tried to log in with
1. system/password ... as SYSDBA ----> ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied
2. system/password ....as NORMAL ------>
ORA-00604: error occurred at recursive SQL level 1 ORA-12705: Cannot access NLS data files or invalid environment specified
Does anyone have idea why is this happening??
How to make it work??
I read almost all threads in this forum and emctl status agent shows

I would really appreciate your help.
MajaActually, I don't have that ORA_NLSxx value in my registry.
What should be the value?
Under the 10g home tree in Registry, I can find just one more place where I can see some NLS settings, and that is
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORACLE\OLAP\ExpressServer\OLAPServer\Locale
NLS_LANG = American_America.UTF8
I am not sure that I know what does that mean..
Can it be the cause of the problem?? -

Hi at all.... I'm a newbie with database oracle.,
I have the follow problem:
I installed Oracle Database 11g R2 XE on my guest operating system CentOS 6.5.
I have changed the hostname in my SO CentOS (where is installed oracle 11g R2 XE) after installation was completed successfully.
-) Before and during installation the hostname was localhost.
-) After installation I changed the hostname in VMCentOS
From the moment I changed the hostname, nothing starts up automatically. In particular, the listener and the database instance does not starts up automatically.
When I starts up the listener manually and I try to connect to database instance with SQLPLUS i get this error:
ORA-12514: TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor
I think that the problem is due to the changed hostname because I, for testing and debugging purpose, re-installed a new OS CentOS virtual machine, re-installed oracle database 11g and I have not got that problem. The database instance and the listener starts up automatically!
Can any one tell me if maybe the problem is related to the hostname changed? ... and Why?
P.S.: After changed the hostname I have also modified the listener.ora and the tnsnames.ora by modifying the HOST with the correct hostname.-) Output of command chkconfig (there isn't any line oracle-xe 0:off 1:off 2:on 3:on 4:on 5:on 6:off):

I have a test 10g r2 server on a RHEL3 box. This morning when I login in, either by sys or a DBA user, the status of Agent Connection was down, but the instance was open and listener was OK. So I dbshut and dbstart the db and stop/start the dbconsole. then the status is OK again. Does anyone know why? checked some log and trc files , indicating that error in uploadXMLFiles.
ChiI cut off from Last Friday before I left the office till the time I correct the problem

Slave instance can not synchronized with the master for a long time
Hi,
Slave instance can not synchronized with the master for a long time, and the gap of LSNs between slave and master are more and more larger. The transfer bytes per second between master and slave is 118MB/s , upper limit to the ethernet card. Why???
ENVIRONMENT:
1. A network program which we called mcdb is based on BDB 4.8.30. It is used to accept get/set requests and then query data from bdb or save data to bdb.
2. mcdb implements replication with bdb replication manager api. The default start replication policy is DB_REP_ELECTION, rep ack policy is DB_REPMGR_ACKS_ONE_PEER and rep priority is 100.
3. The bdb data files, bdb log files, region files and rep files are all in the same home directory.
4. There are two instances of the mcdb are separately on two standalone servers which has no other programs. These two instances are in one replication group which can elect a master automatically.
5. The master instance is online, which has lots of requests (get, set, delete).
ACTIONS:
1. Start two mcdb instances on two servers and the two instance make a replication group. Slave has already synchronized with the master.
2. Stop the slave for a long time (more than 20 hours).
3. Start the slave instance to synchronize data with master.
RESULT:
1. the gap of LSNs between slave and master are more and more larger.
2. db_stat of master and slave:
master db_stat:
467170 Number of PERM messages not acknowledged
9245 Number of messages queued due to network delay
172415 Number of messages discarded due to queue length
25880 Number of existing connections dropped
3407 Number of failed new connection attempts

Edited by: 899585 on 2013-1-4 下午10:55Hi,
Unfortunately, this issue is beyond the level of what is supported over the forum. Performance related issues are extremely complex and require an in-depth understanding of your environment and dedicated support. In a generic sense, you can look at this as a basic queueing problem. You have a server that went down and work is still coming in. When the server gets started it is possible that it may never catch up depending on new work coming in and the rate at processing the old work.
So what would you do in this case --- one thing would be to reduce the new work coming in. In HA terms this would be slowing the master down and you can increase DB_REP_ACK_TIMEOUT for this. Another thing you could do is add fresh servers to help reduce the workload. In HA terms, this would be the equivalent of restarting the client and give it a fresh look at everything. Another thing you could do is replan the system and load balance. In HA terms, it would mean something like take a hot backup of the master and reinit a client from scratch.
If you are interested in getting a dedicated support person working on this concern, please let me know and we can move forward down that path. Just respond to the thread with your email address and I will get in contact with you so we can pursue that approach.
thanks

Error 109 : MaxL api instance is not Active after installing excel add-in
Hello Gurus
I am getting error Error 109 : MaxL api instance is not Active while expanding essbase server in EAS console.
I am using EPM 11.1.2.1 on Windows server 2008 x64 with MS Office 2007 x32
EAS was working properly before installing Excel Add-in,
What i did is
1. I first installed excel add-in and when I clicked on connect Log-in screen didn't appears.
2. Then I reinstalled excel add-in and it started working properly and EAS was also working fine.
3. But after restarting VM, EAS is not working, it is giving error like "Error 109 : MaxL api instance is not Active"
4. I also searched on OTN for EAS issue and checked following environment variables
ESSBASEPATH : C:\Oracle\Middleware\EPMSystem11R1\products\ExcelAddin
ESSLANG : English_UnitedStates.Latin1@Binary
5. And also tried reinstalling EAS
Any help will be highly appreciated.
Thanks
Yash

I had the same problem, after add-in 's installation on epm 11.121
Without solution, I was forced to uninstall all epm and reintsall.
Is there another method to solve this problem ?
