AIR Installer Error #1
I'm running Adobe AIR 2.6 on 64-bit Linux Mint 11 (based on Ubuntu 11.04).
When trying to install AIR apps, I keep running into an Error #1. This is intermittent, but quite frequent. In other words, some .air files install just fine (like Tweetdeck), but most end up with the error and won't install. Here is the output of the Install.log file from one app (specifically the Comcast CallerID app), which worked fine on an older installation of Linux, but doesn't now:

Any ideas what could be causing this error and how to fix it? Thanks!
The problem is that the air package has a version string 'ComcastCallerID2.1.7', which does not start with a digit, and the underlying package installer 'dpkg' does not allow that anymore in recent versions.
I only know of solutions that are rather technical, so I hope for you that that is not a problem for you.
One solution is to grab an older version of dpkg that doesn't have that limitation yet, and (temporarily) put that in a place earlier in the path than /usr/bin/dpkg (or overwrite the current version (make a backup)). Another solution if your dpkg is new enough to have the '--force-bad-version' option, is to make a wrapper script thart adds that option. A third solution is to patch the dpkg in your system (Add a 'return NULL;' to the beginning of version_strict_check() in parsehelp.c, and add a 'return;' to the beginning of 'test(void)' in t-version.c).

I got a problem with installin Adobe Air. Cant install it in "normal" mods, with "Run as Administrator" and cant install it with the hidden Administrator account. I also tried everything from the Troubleshoot AIR installation guide.

Would you mind giving this a try and let us know how it works for you? When running the Fix it, go through the uninstall process and try to remove Adobe AIR from your system. Once finished, download the latest version of AIR and install again.

Make sure we loged in as admin and then we need to first remove the temp files first then we need to unregister the installer and then we need to register the installer so the steps are....
to delete the temp files we need to hold the windows key+R,
We will get the run window then in the box we need to type the %temp% you will get the new window on that window we need to sellect all the files and then press delete
after this we need to try to install the program.
if this works good to go or we can try these steps
Choose Start > All Programs > Accessories > Run.
In the Open box, type "msiexec /unreg" and then press Enter. THAN

Uninstalling 1.5.3
Running in admin mode
I checked logs and said retuned with error code 7
Don't know what to do, doesnt seem to be a fix.

Would you mind giving this a try and let us know how it works for you? When running the Fix it, go through the uninstall process and try to remove Adobe AIR from your system. Once finished, download the latest version of AIR and install again.

AIR installation error Windows 7
I tried to upgrade to the latest version of AIR today. At first it said it was successful, but then after clicking "Finish" it said there was an installation error. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling it. I tried uninstalling and then running the installation program as admin. I tried creating a separate admin user, switching to that user, uninstalling AIR, and reinstalling it. I tried using the Windows Install Clean Up program. I tried deleting stuff from the registry. Now things are even worse.
Now when I try to install AIR I get this error message:
An error occurred while installing Adobe AIR. Installation may not be allowed by your administrator. Please contact your administrator.
And when I try to uninstall it through the control panel I get this message:
This application requires a version of Adobe AIR which cannot be found. Pleae download teh latest version o fthe runtime from http://www.adobe.com/go/getair or contact the application author for an updated version.
How do I fix this?

PaulChris, thanks for your reply. In my original post, I mentioned that I tried using Windows Installer Cleanup Utility.
I eventually was able to get AIR uninstalled using Advanced SystemCare.
It seems like the installation software is not able to write or overwrite some necessary files, so I tried sharing my AppData folder with Homegroup. Then I reinstalled, but it didn't work. I've tried installing and uninstalling a bunch of times, and now I'm stuck again where I can't install (I get "An error occurred while installing Adobe AIR. Installation may not be allowed by your administrator. Please contact your administrator.") but it doesn't show up in the list of programs to uninstall in the control panel, Windows Installer Cleanup Utility or Advanced SystemCare.
I don't know if it will help or not, but here are the logs from the last couple of hours of attempts to install.

AIR installation error through browserAPI
Hi,
I am using the badge.swf for my adobe AIR app. installation. I am gettong the following error:-
Config:
OS - Microsoft XP Professional Service Pack 3
CPU - Intel Core 2 Duo T9600 @ 2.80GHz
AIR Vresion - 2.6.0.19120

When I convert extension from .zip to .air I get the app. installation file.
Can I do something to protect the download in format of the zip file instead of .air?
Or
Can I instruct through badge.swf to convert the tmp to .air extension and then run the installtion?

I created an Adobe AIR application using html, css and Javascript in Dreamweaver. The application works fine, but now that I have built the installer I get the following error:

When I monitor my network traffic using ServiceCapture I can see that no attempt is made to connect to the appurl, with the install failing instantly without even attempting to connect to the appurl.
ServiceCapture on OS X confirms the attempt to connect to the appurl even if the url is deliberately fictitous resulting in a 404 response.
The badge begins the installation process using the installApplication method of the following file
http://airdownload.adobe.com/air/browserapi/air.swf
which the badge loads on startup.
It would appear to me that the installation problem is failing inside that loaded swf's code, but I'm at a loss as to how to debug that. -

The log covers many attempts. The latest was on 29th September.
Following a suggestion in another forum thread, I checked the file permissions for folder 'c:\users\martin\appdata\local\temp'. As far as I can see, they give full control to the SYSTEM, administrator and sole user (martin) accounts. There are no options with 'Deny' against them.
I have run Microsoft FixIt. I also tried the Windows Installer Cleanup utility (msicuu2.exe) but I got 'Access Denied' with no further details.
Any suggestions?I have managed to edit the Registry so as to get the Windows Installer (MSIExec) to write a verbose (detailed) log. From this, and some web forums, I found that the problem has been caused by a Microsoft Windows security update, KB2918614. This was applied on my PC on 14 August but I think it was released on 12 August. My Windows version is Vista and I don't know if this update or a similar has been applied to other Windows versions.

I went into Windows Update on my Control Panel and found how to uninstall update KB2918614. When I had done this, followed by a Restart, I was able to install AIR and the software that uses it. -

There are no other installation from before of above files
and also I have tried the air installer created from dreamweaver on
another pc with Air Runtime the same thing happens.

When viewing this from adobe dreamweaver "Preview in Adobe
Air" it is o.k., but when this is made into a installer it does not

It does not works because you have compiled saying its for
another version that the "Adobe Air player" installed on your
systems.
I presume you have installed the lastest PLAYER(think as

I believe you might have something like

http://ns.adobe.com/air/application/1.0.M6">
... you simply need to remove the .M6
To summarize you are creating an install package which
requires another version of the player installed. You can change
this or install the older version.

AIR 2.0 application with 2.5 Runtime Installation Error

I'm getting an error while trying to install an AIR application. Basically, I just see the AIR installer dialog with an empty progress bar and an "Installing ..." message. Here's what the log file looks like:

Some background on the application I'm trying to install:
1. The application descriptor file points at the 2.0 version of the runtime. The application I'm trying to install has been packaged as a dmg.
2. I already have the 2.5 version of the AIR runtime installed on this machine, so I'm not sure why there are references to the EULA in the log file.
3. I'm not actively double clicking on the dmg file. The .dmg is actually being installed by a third party application via the command line.
Any ideas on what could be happening here or can you offer any remedial action on how to get this application installed correctly?

The third party application is passing a -silent and -location flag to when launching the application.
