Ajax call inside apex plugin

Hey,
I've done Ajax calls in Apex before, but I'm still figuring out how to do this inside a plugin.
The Ajax function itself is contained within my plugins code. I'm doing the call from a javascript.
I have an element containing the ajax identifier (a long number of characters and numbers).
I tried both with jquery and javascript but both seems to fail to call, so I have to assume I'm calling it the wrong way somehow.
This is the actual call to my ajax:

Instead of getting an alert with the data my ajax returns I get a poppup with html code
Inside the ajax I have a log package logging, and since it's not logging I'm assuming the call fails.
Any toughts or suggestions?

In the file com_oracle_apex_fc_funnel.js you will find an example for an AJAX call of a plug-in.

I was just wondering if it's possible to replace Oracle ApEx way of performing ajax calls with a jQuery Ajax call instead - just curious if I can call an On Demand process using jQuery Ajax means?

I guess I found the solution for region pull for IR report
using the syntax
gReport = new apex.worksheet.ws('');
in the js script below.
When I pull the IR region from page8 into page1, I found that the IR toolbar's html/Js scripts are missing in Page1
and thats why the IR toolbar functions were not working, issuing "gReport is null or not an object" error.
But when I added the

syntax in the JS script below, the toolbar functions work using the p_arg_value.

Firefox 6.0.2 keeps on crashing, problems with ajax calls

Hi,
I am using the jquery form plugin to make ajax calls on my sites, when i invoke the plugin and have Firebug open I get this message:
Could not convert JavaScript argument arg 0 [nsISupports.QueryInterface]

Firebug also tells me that it's limit has been reached 1571 entries shown.
Can someone tell me why this is happening; is there a problem with Firefox that will be fixed. It's not happening in IE9

Synchronous versus Asynchronous Ajax calls

Hello Apex gurus,
I have a page which uses synchronous Ajax and seems that once in a while the browser freezes. I suppose this happens when the server takes a little longer to respond. I read this article:

and I wanted to reproduce the test. So at the top of my on demand process I put
DBMS_LOCK.sleep(10);
I expected this to freeze the browser for about 10 sec but make no difference in terms of what the response is.
It seems though that the response is null. I also have:
EXCEPTION
WHEN OTHERS THEN
htp.p(SQLERRM);
to capture any errors but no error message is returned either.
Can somebody explain what is going on here and as a second question: if I make the synchronous call to asynchronous is this going to solve the browser freezing problem.

Storing SELECT list definition after AJAX call

Hi all
I redefine the options in the SELECT item via AJAX call. The application process returns string similar to <option>x1</option><option>x2</option>, which is set as SELECT item innerHTML content. Everything works fine.
The problem is that I need to switch to another page and than return back. The original page is re-rendered and the redefinition of the SELECT item options is obviously lost.
Any recommentation how to solve it simply and robustly?

No Data retrieved with AJAX Call HTMLDB_GET when using Safari Browser

In my apex (4.0) app i have certain page a which uses JS AJAX htmldb_get to pull some data from an on-demand process using xml structure

I ran into a strange behavior when using Safari Browser (Mac and Windows) when opening the page.
As long as the process retrieves less than 50 rows everything works fine. The data is pulled from the OnDemand Process and delivered to the browser; the XML Data can be selected in JS for further processing

When calling for more then 50 rows Safaris shows a POST Error -1001 and no Data is delivered.
This occurs only on some Mac's and my Dev WIN-XP PC using SF Browser; never on iPad/iPhone . Never when using FF on Mac or PC.
I googled a lot of different Sources, it seems to be a Timeout Problem when making a long runing AJAX Call. But i did not find any useful hint.
Any Ideas from the APEX & HTTP Gurus?

It's just that in my experience htmldb_Get.get() is troublesome for browsers, due to the fact it performs a synchronous request. The browser can do nothing else while it waits for the response. I've seen Firefox really struggle with it in the past couple years. Also, I've seen no good reason to use synchronous XMLHttpRequest calls. As you can see, it's simple to refactor a call to htmldb_Get.get() into a call to htmldb_Get.GetAsync().
For your case in particular, I was just guessing Safari have implemented a timeout to ensure that they don't end up waiting indefinitely for a request that never returns as this would be fatal. You're probably hitting that timeout.
I don't think htmldb_Get is officially documented anywhere, but you can find the source here... http://apex.oracle.com/i/javascript/uncompressed/apex_4_0.js
There is also a pure jQuery way to perform AJAX request, I recommend using this because at least it's documented. Here's a snippet of a typical APEX AJAX request done the jQuery way:

Can you run an XPC service inside a plugin? (e.g. a Print Dialog Extension plugin)

I am creating a Print Dialog Extension (PDE) plugin. This plugin is called and displayed when a user Prints from different apps, e.g. TextEdit, Preview, Xcode, etc. Note that the plugin runs on top of the app that called the Print Plugin (for example, TextEdit).
Inside the plugin, I need to run an XPC service. I need an XPC service since the entitlements on the main app might not be sufficient for my needs, e.g. I need to connect to the network, and TextEdit does not have the required entitlements for network connection.
The problem is, I can't create an XPC connection. The handler always fire with XPC_ERROR_CONNECTION_INVALID.
1.) Is this because the PDE Plugin is not inside the main bundle/main app, e.g. Text Edit?
2.) If yes, how can I still run an XPC service within a PDE Plugin?
3.) If no, then why can't I successfully create an XPC connection?

Cancel ajax call at server

Hi all,
I am making an application using jsp, java, hibernate and got a problem that i coundnt figure it out so far.
My application uses many ajax call at pages, you can think it like facebook style calls,
When I press a button to get data from server with ajax, I hibernate query runs at server side. Then if I press another button to get new request I can not cancel previous request at client and server. (I used.session.cancelQuery and didnt worked, ajax.abort() didnt worked at client)
How can handle that?

I think you might have found a bug, there was a similar issue in APEX 4.1, Patrick Wolf suggested not to use the apex stop engine in APEX on demand processes, but I suspect, only suspect.. :-) that the APEX team might have done it anyway.

Mp3 playback inside APEX?

Hi,
In my head spins the idea for an APEX-application to connect my profession and my hobby (in my rare spare time I use to be a square dance caller).
But, ... for this I need the possibility to play mp3 files from inside APEX. I tried to search this forum but did not really succeed.
Basically, the rough idea is as follows:
- Have a laptop with an Oracle database (XE for the start) and APEX installed. This will normally work stand-alone, with no internet-connection
- store my records as mp3 BLOBs in the database, together with many additional information
like lyrics, date purchased, dates/events used, preferred playback settings (i.e. speed, volume, pitch ) .... and much more
Edit: I could also store the file in the filesystem and put only the filename in the database if this is mor cenvenient.
- have an APEX application to plan and control events (playlists), including the playback of the records (with the stored settings),
display of the record information and the collecting and storing of event-specific information (also from the mp3-player)
I am confident that I'll be able to develop everything - except that playback part!!
So, any help there would be appreciated.

If you are looking for a utility to play music on the web you can try XSPF which is an open source music player. Also you can look at Sockso which is an open source music server which uses XSPF. You would be able to get a good understanding on how to use XSPF from their documentation.

Since Oracle XE only allows 5 gigs of storage I would recommend storing your music files on the file system.

How to handle jquery and ajax call in single page application using coded ui

Hi,
I am facing a very tricky situation while using coded ui. My application interact with ajax and I was facing the issue to handle the ajax in the login page and other pages. and got solution for my problem. Now when ever a ajax is getting called in the page its getting handle with app config file. However the issue I am facing right now is.
When i click on a button a window will appear which is actually a "div tag". Please see the image below. In the that window when I have to select a item from drop down, the ajax will get called, however it will get called only for the window,
it wont be called for the entire page.. i.e. it will update only the window. I am not able to handle this ajax call, script gets stuck in refresh state. I will request you guys to provide a work around for it.
I would like to add more details - Visual studio version - 2013 update 3, IE11.
Application details: Its a single page application which uses bootstrap framework. All the ajax call are dynamic.

The window is not exactly a pop up window. Its a div tag in the same page. As this is my first time to work on a single page application I am not sure how it works. For the entire page I am able to handle the ajax call however the action performed
in the div tag is not getting handled.

I agree the point the UI has to be active or else the script will have issue during the playback. In my scenario I have to work on that window. I have to perform action on it. Now when the window(div thing) comes up the page in the background goes disable
till the action is performed on the window or the window is closed. I have to perform action on it then only I can proceed with the TC automation. Please let me know any option to solve this problem.

i'd like to create a filechooser button to load/save but inside the plugin window. Is it possible ? if yes how can i do that ?
and i need the algorithm to be Mac/Windows compatible if possible

If by the "plugin window" you mean the dialog an automation or a filter plugin from the SDK sample code opens for you, you have to write platform-specific code using either Cocoa on Mac or regular WinAPI on Windows (e.g. by hooking GetOpenFileName()/GetSaveFileName() functions to a button you will add to the resource file or create dynamically). Take a look at any plugin that has a GUI (e.g. the Dissolve plugin) and you'll see that the GUI code is entirely platform-specific as there is no platform-independed GUI framework bundled with Photoshop anymore.
Another option is to use some third-party cross-platform library such as Qt, but if you just need a couple of buttons and file selection dialogs it's probably not worth the trouble,.

Windows authentication on every ajax call MVC

I've created an MVC project with windows authentication.
From my views, I use Jquery to retrieve data from the controller asynchronously in order to provide a better user experience and reduce loading times.
These functions look like

Everythings works as I want in Chrome, where it prompts me for login when I open the page and no more for the duration of that session. However, in IE, it prompts me for login when I open the page, and on every single ajax call...
Why is this happening and how can I avoid it?
I need to use windows authentication and IE, I can't change that...

Breadcrumb in BSP is not working when application is called inside Portal.

Dear All,
            We have implemented SAP Learning Solution by integrating it with SAP EP 7.0.
We called the BSP Application HCM_LEARNING inside portal using BSP iView template.
The problem we are facing is, the breadcrumbs in the BSP application "HCM_LEARNING" is working fine when it is called as a standalone application. But the same is not working when it is called inside portal framework page.
Enterprise Portal breadcrumbs are working fine.
How could we resolve this.?

Problem with multiple Ajax calls to the same Servlet

I am new to AJAX. I have a requirement where in, i have to make ajax calls to the same servlet in an infinite loop and check for an application context attribute to refresh the contents in the JSP.I am using the following script in JSP. The problem is i am not able to invoke the servlet more than one time.But I am able to go through the script at specific time interval using setInterval() function of Javascript and able to get alerts.But the problem is with xmlhttp.open("Get", url, true);. Its not getting called more than one time, even though i make multiple calls to the function.

I'm not sure I'm following you. The mapping from URL to servlet can contain anything you want. So you could have the URL /blah/blah/blah that, with a mapping something like /blah/* would pass all requests with that URL pattern to your servlet - no one has to know it is a servlet. Your servlet could then parse the URL to see what it has to do or you could pass parameters as part of the URL or as hidden fields.
