ALBPM Studio and Directory.xml

Can I use ALBPM studio to deploy the process(start engine) and still use the PAPI apis to list the processes? I the web-INF dir, I dont see the directory.xml but it can be seen in the case of enterprise installation which requires the deployment of the WAR each time I make changes to the custom JSP code which access the process engine.
In other words, how can I use the studio to test the PAPI aplis?
Any help would be greately appreciated.

You can use PAPI and PAPI-WS with Oracle BPM Studio 10gR3.
Check the following documentation link: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E13154_01/bpm/docs65/papi/index.html.
In there, expand the "Oracle BPM Process API (PAPI) and read the section labeled "Connecting to an Engine Running in Studio".

I have some simple questions about ALBPM Enterprise Server:
it is really necessary to have this component in a production environment?.
For example, if a company is very small with 10 or 15 employees and you have only 2 processes in the company, ALBPM Studio is not enough to execute and to administrate these processes?
What are the problems that I would have if I decided to set up a production environment only with ALBPM Studio?
What things I could not do if I will not have the Enterprise Server?
How many users simultaneosly support the ALBPM Studio in a testing environment?

Hi,
The short answer is 'yes', you'll need an Enterprise server. Here are some of the issues with using Studio:
Functionality:
You can't do everything you can do in the Enterprise server in the Studio engine. However, whether this is an issue would depend on the complexity of your processes/requirements. For example, the Studio engine doesn't support the versioning of processes.
Licensing:
I don't know for sure, but I doubt the ALBPM licensing allows for Studio to be used in 'production'.
Runtime
The Studio engine can't be isolated from the Studio application. So you'd always have to make sure someone had studio running on a PC somewhere.
Users
You are limited to 5 concurrent users in Studio.
There did actually used to be a copy of the Engine that was aimed at small scale deployments called 'Express' (I think), but it disappeared a while back.

I am working through the tutorial on ALBPM studio and have reached the stage at which I need to run a process using the studio's built-in engine [i.e. Run/Start engine...].
When I do this, I always get several failure messages that indicate the engine cannot run. The most informative of these indicates:
"SERVER STARTUP aborted. Server not configured or
not able to run in host: 'laptop'"
'laptop' is the hostname of [no surprise] my laptop.
Can anyone advise me as to where I can configure the 'Server' to run correctly on my host machine. I cannot find any documentation as to how the configure the internal engine, nor does there seem any relevant setting in the Engine settings.

Which operative system are you using? this can happend due to a DNS
problem when resolving your local machine name.
Here is a solution that worked for a linux used:
did a "hostname" on my Linux and it came back with "linux". I found an
entry in the /etc/hosts file for linux but for IP address 127.0.0.2. I
commented it out and added the "linux" short name to 127.0.0.1. I
republished-deployed and it failed again. I then removed the system and
build directories, republished-deployed and this time I was able to
start the server.

The BPM Workspace is loading and failing to initialize the directory.xml

Hi BPM Specialists,
I installed BPM along with SOA suit in Windows XP box. Now I am getting failing to initialize directory.xml error and the workspace is not getting loaded.I am not able to locate a directory.xml file in my installed directory. Please let me know what needs to be done.Thanks a lot in adavance.

I have installed OBPM 11g along with SOA suit.So whenever I am trying to restart the WL server, the log is showing the error where it is not able to initialize the directory.xml.
Could you please let me know what else can be done?

Changing the directory Structure of Jsp and web.xml files

I am using the JDeveloper 11g preview. Can any one tell me how to change the Jsp and web.xml files ( not in WEB-INF directory of the application) to another directory.

By default JDeveloper is giving the following folder structure.
In the project's root folder there is a public_html and src folder along with .jpr file.
In public_html folder thre is an WEB-INF folder and a jsp file
In WEB-INF folder there is an classes folder along with web.xml file.
I need to have the following folder structure :
The WEB-INF folder should be in root folder of project not in public_html folder
src folder must be in WEB-INF folder.

C# Getting path of folder that is created in Visual Studio and it's located in app directory.

Alright i created folder that will contain video resources for my app.But now i need to connect it with my code.I need to get file path of folder that i created in Visual Studio,but it needs to work on other machines.I tryed Path.Combined(Environment.GetCurrentDirectory

If you set the Build Action of the Lekcija1.mp4 file to Content (right-click on the file in the Solution Explorer in Visual Studio) and the Copy To Output Directory property to Copy always or Copy if newer you could use the following code to get the absolute
path to the file:
string codeBase = System.Reflection.Assembly.GetExecutingAssembly().CodeBase;
string fullPath = System.IO.Path.GetDirectoryName(codeBase) + "\\Video\\Lekcija1.mp4";

Configuring SSL certificates on ALBPM Studio

Hi,
I am invoking a web service which is deployed on a web logic server which is a secure server and needs SSL certificates to communicate. I have the certificates but don’t know how to configure it to my ALBPM Studio.
Can I configure those to studio or do I need to deploy my code on the Enterprise edition installed on application server having these SSL certificates? But in that case I would land up investing so much time in deploying the code on server after even a small change. Since I don’t have those certificates configured to my studio it is not allowing me to catalog the service in my project and throwing Introspection error. The details of the error are mentioned below:

In order to communicate with SSL secured webservices (those with WSDL end point starting as https:// you need to have certificates from these servers.
For BPM Standalone these are the steps
1. Download the .cer file from server. (One way is you can use IE browser to get that file and export it from browser to a local directory)
2. Put this file in %JAVA_HOME%\jre\lib\security. You can put it anywhere you want.
3. Run the following command at a command prompt:
C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_02\bin>keytool -import -trustcacerts -alias <CERT ALIAS NAME> -keystore ..\lib\security\cacerts -file ..\lib\security\gd_<cert file name>.cer
4. You will be prompted for a password. If you have not changed the password, it will be "changeit".
5. You will then get the following message if all is successful - "Certificate was added to keystore".
6. Restart Tomcat (inbuilt server in BPM Studio).
This should solve your problem.
Pls note that if you have not configured your keyStore then first do so. you will find this document handy to do so.

How can I get the directory.xml file for WL6.0?

I have installed the ALBPM Enterprise WL6.01 and started it in my server.But I get the error message when I login.

How can I get the XML file?

aaa, ok i misunderstood your first post, i thought you are talking about unable to use the directory.xml from your application.
Ok, well the directory.xml file that ALBPM uses is allways in /albpm6.0/j2eewl/conf/directory.xml if we are not talking about Standalone. And when you start your albpm server it picks up the directory.xml file from there. But it picks him up only when you start it...so if you made any changes to it, you have to restart the server.
You should check the instalation folder of your ALBPM.
If you want to change the user/pass in the directory.xml change it in that folder and restart ALBPM.
If you don't know how to enter new password you have to use this sintax:
<encrypt>newPassword</encrypt>
Because if you open the xml file you have only <encrypted> tags, and you can't change those.
I don't know what the xml file is doing in that tomcat folder though...maybe it get's copied to that location when you start the albpm WL

File Scenario with Dynamice Filename and Directory

Hi All,
we have a requirement that PI has to pickup the file from 2 FTP Server.
First PI has to pickup an XML file from Server1 , this XML file has a details about the Filename and Directory of the second FTP server., then PI should login to the server2 and pickup the file form the directory.

Read file 1 from Server 1 using sender file Communication channel and read 2nd filename and directory details and pass these values to UDF/Java mapping to log in to server 2 and retrieve the data/file2 ?

Need to load multiple skins with only a single .swf and config.xml

These are part of some instructions that were of a AS3 Mp3 Store I purcased
Well guys the new AS3 flash cart system can have skins hot swapped in and out with out having to recompile the actionscript code.
You can even have multiple skins on the same cart and use different ones in different places of your website.
This is all because the flash cart system itself runs seperate from the graphical user interface that the customer visits.
When you purchase a new cart skin, or if you edit your own custom skin, you can place the swf file for it in the "skins" directory of your flash cart installation directory. Then in the config file where you "embed" the cart on your website you include the name of the skin you'd like to use (the skin MUST be available in your skins directory).
The other plus to using the skin system is you can keep the cart application seperate from your site. No longer do you have to have all that ugly php code and cramped swf files floating along side your website html files. No instead you create an install directory then simply embed the cart from where ever it is. The only litigation is that the cart must exist on the same server as the website you are showing it publicly on.
So right now I have a website with the store set up and working, allowing the buyer to listen to the tracks, add to cart and checkout after which they are given an instant download link to the purcased files.
What I want to do now though is break up the songs into differents carts/skins within a dropdown list in my website as quoted in the instructions above, according to genre.
So I have published 4 different skins as
MusicSkin 1.fla
MusicSkin 2.fla
MusicSkin 3.fla
MusicSkin 4.fla
and have placed these on my server
The cart works by Index.html > loads the Main.swf >loads MusicSkin.fla which is called by via config.xml

I am having trouble configuring how to call on 4 different Skins into different pages on my site if I only have ONE index.html, Main.swc and config.xml files which according to the instructions is possible!

I am wondering if i have to copy the instances of the different skins into the config file above and each swf and html file loads the corresponding on in the list, or does each instance require it's own config file, which would then be a problem I think, because I could not have 4 config.xml files in the same directory which is what the Action Script is calling on.

SOAP Access from ALBPM Studio

I have a problem on accessing a webservice via SOAP. In detail: the webservice is developped in .NET (with Visual Studio .NET). I just took the WSDL file and generated the Service in ALBPM Studio. So far everything works fine. But if i try to access the webservice though the access of the method generally works fine, some parameters do not reach the webservice. On analyzing the soap message i found that the problem seems to be that in the relatively complicated parameter (array of int) the namespace is not used correctly (the int in the array has the wrong namespace and can't be interpreted by the webservice). So my question is: is this a known problem of the ALBPM Studio? Btw we have a similar problem when we access the Aqualogic ESB from ALBPM Studio. So it really looks like a problem of the ALBPM Studio. Thank in advance for any comments!

I know I am trudging up a very old thread here, but has there been any resolution to this issue of passing arrays over SOAP? It seems like using arrays of simple types in web services would be a fairly common occurence, but this is the only thread I could find on the subject.
I am using ALBPM 5.7 and haven't seen anything in newer release notes that would indicate this has been resolved.

PVCS ALBPM Studio Plug-in

Does anyone know of a PVCS plug-in for ALBPM Studio?
I am working on a project that already uses PVCS as an enterprise standard code repository and would like to integrate the check-in/out process with the Studio tool.

Backed up library onto external hd - want to get music bk into itunes lib - moved 2 files library.itl and library.xml but reverts bk to 5kb and 11kb (ie. no music)

I backed up library onto external drive. (itunes directory - with Album artwork, itunes music directory, and xml/itl files)
Now I am trying to upload music back to a new Windows XP computer - I have new itunes version.
First I moved/copied the itunes directory whole to the new computer - then opened itunes and the library.itl and library.xml reverted to 5 and 11kb
Then tried just moving those two files - still nothing
Help - as I have over 28MB of music I am trying to recover.

The "missing file" thing happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout,or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions. I can provide a step by step guide if you give me the two paths.
Alternatively, as long as you can find a location holding the missing files, then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes.

How to import the .exp/XPDL/XSDL file into ALBPM Studio 5.7

Hi,
Can somebody tell how to import the .exp file that are developed in ALBPM Studio 6.0/Oracle BPM 10g r3 into ALBPM 5.7. I have tried but can not able to import the project as the file suported by ALBPM 5.7 is <.fpr.exp>. I have also tried to import the XPDL/XSDL file developed in 6.0 to 5.7 but can not able to do so. It is importing the file but the only the automatic activities are showing in workspace (All the other activities like Interactive, Grab etc are not displayed). The code inside that automatic activities are also not there.
How to import the file/files in ALBPM 5.7

Hi Bibhu,
I expect importing a project to an older version of BPM isn't going to work or be supported.
Most products are built to be backwards compatabile, not forwards compatible.
I recommend you go to one version of the product anyway - trying to maintain two adds to your maintenance and support overheads.
In which case migrating your processes from 5.7 to 6.0 (or even 10g) would be supportable and the best way to go.

Command line license install ALBPM Studio 5.7

Hello. I am trying to script the installation of the ALBPM Studio 5.7 and have gotten the silent install to work. However, I cannot find a command line method of installing our license file. Is there any way I can do this?
