All songs randomly erased off ipod

Hi--
My ipod has been giving me some problems as of late, skipping tracks and freezing. However, the other day when I turned it on it no longer contained any of the tracks that were previously on there. There are no songs, playlists, etc. I didn't do anything to it from the time I stopped playing it, until I turned it on again to find all the files missing.
Also, when I look under 'about' under 'settings' it says that my ipod contains no songs, yet has a capacity of 37.1 GB with only 1.6 GB available.
Are all files backed up somewhere on the ipod itself? And if so, how do I recover these files? I had a lot of music on my ipod that isn't on my computer, so I'd like to get it back if possible.
Any help would be much appreciated! I haven't found any similar posts yet.
Thanks,
Kate

My iPod several times has all the songs wiped off of it. This has also happened to a friend of mine. Sometimes its possible to happen if u disconnect the Ipod before it is done syncing songs. My friend's iPod was fixed by RESETing it (holding menu and the middle button until the apple logo appears) and then we plugged it back into the computer and the songs were all there. My iPod, however, was not fixed after doing that. My only other suggestion would be to RESTORE your iPod to its original settings. This restore button comes up when you plug the ipod into your computer and it displays your ipod information under summary like free space. This does delete EVERYTHING on your iPod. Restoring the ipod will make it so that all your memory will be free. This means that the songs you do NOT have on your computer will be gone but you can later sync the songs you do have on your computer back on to your ipod. That is the only way i know how to fix it. I'm sorry but i do not know of any way to recover the files that seem to be taking up memory but are unaccessable.
I hope this has been somewhat helpful
let me know if it works for you.

  • All songs are erased when connecting Ipod Nano to PC.

It happened a few times now since the last few months, so last momnth I uppdated all softwares and installed the latest Itune. But it happened again last night. All songs got erased as soon as I plugged in my Ipod Nano to update or add new songs. Anyone experience that, what can it be.
    PC windows HP.

Ok not sure what you mean, I did have to restore it It's my daughter's ipod)at work on my computer, added a few songs to see if it works, so it worked, gave it to her and she strted using it at home on the home computer and synched her ipod with Itunes to download her songs, was good for a few weeks and then last week she connected the usb cable to put more songs, that's when she lost everything and Itunes said to use the Ipod updater.... again!!!
So do you mean that I she has to be on manual mode at home, since I initally put some music on my work computer???

  • Entire library of music erased off ipod after sync

Ipod touch 5th gen 32 gb running IOS 8.2
For the 4th time since updating to IOS 8.2, whenever i try to add new music to my ipod through itunes, when the ipod syncs with itunes, ALL of my music is erased off the ipod.
Manually manage music and videos is selected. I do not have itunes/ipod automatically sync music. I have "prevent devices from syncing automatically" enabled.
So heres the basic rundown of what happens.
    1-upload music to ipod
    2-let music copy over
    3-upload more music to ipod
    4-ipod/itunes begin sync
5-syncing stops without copying music over
6-all music vanishes off ipod after sync "completes"
looking at my ipod music list in itunes, it shows all my music. when you click on them to play them, ! shows up next to ALL songs.
when you look at the music on the ipod itself, nothing is there.
this is what it looks like for the music that has be synced before, that has suddenly disappeared

from my experience, the music is still there. the database is screwed up when itunes recognizes the music, but the ipod doesnt see it.
what ive discovered, after the database crashes and everything is gone, see if you can find this info out. anytime ive had this issue, there are normally a few songs that wont copy over and itunes says "could not convert"(i have itunes setup to convert songs of high bitrate to aac 128kbps). when i go to delete those songs(because they show up on the ipod, but are greyed out), thats when the database crashes, and everything vanishes.
my fix for this issue is this:
unplug ipod from computer and turn off
    close itunes
    restart ipod
    open itunes
    plug in ipod
    sync ipod with itunes
copy over one or two of failed songs
watch itunes start to sync, sit at "waiting for changes to be applied" for a few minutes
watch all my missing music reappear(over the course of about 10 hours, takes a few minutes to recopy 4000 songs)
annoying and frustrating, but until apple can recognize this issue and put a fix in, this is the best solution i can think of besides throwing my ipod at the wall and fix the solution permanently. but that wont get me very far because of my lifeproof case.

  • Can I sort all songs by artist in iPod/iPad's iOS 5?

Issue #1 - Sort by Artist
I have not seen this addressed yet. If it has been, point me in the right direction and I'll be on my way.
As with the former iteration of the iPod (now Music) player on the iPad, you can show Songs, alphabetized by the song title. You can also open a folder view of the Artists, which means you can only see the songs by that artist.
I want to be able to sort ALL songs by artist. Just like in iTunes on my computer.
Let's say I have Elbow and Electronic in my library. Elbow immediately precedes Electronic in an alphabetical list of artists in my library. If I want to listen to all songs by, say, Elbow and then have it play all songs by Electronic, that should be relatively straight forward. I can do it in iTunes, of course.
I assume I could create a new smart playlist that is that is the combination of my other iPad playlists, sort that by artist, and then play from there, but that is a really silly, unnecessary workaround for a simple issue.
    Thanks.

Actually, JinKL, doing a search from "Songs" is harder to do and does not give the exact same result. It's harder to do because I have to key an artist's name rather than pick one from a list. The results aren't the same for several reasons. If you key an artist name that matches a song, you get that song, too. OK, that doesn't happen THAT much, but it does happen. And if I key a partial name, say "Morrison" for "Van Morrison", I get all the songs on "Morrison Hotel" by the Doors.
"All Songs" should be added to the iPad music player. While they're at it, they should add column titles and allow allow sorting on the column values.

  • Can't sync all song in library to ipod

Hi! I just got the latest itunes version and can't sync all songs in my library to ipod. It is manually set to manage songs and when I select all songs to drag (more than 2,000) it is only syncing 281...help please!!!

    Hey samikumar,
Thanks for the question, this is definitely a weird issue! To troubleshoot, let’s start first by re-creating your iTunes library and playlists:

  • All Music Randomly Erased ***?

I've been hooking my ipod to the same machine for 6 months now. I have the library on manual control and was listening to music on the ipod through the comp (which I had been doing all the time since I got it) when I suddenly got a message "Folders could not be updated" and All of my music is erased from ipod and replaced with files from "My Documents" on my comp.
Several hundred dollars gone.... Thanks apple.

Dude, did you even read the post?
I couldn't back up my iPod,
    Apparent abilities:
Can transfer from hard drive to iPod
Can't transfer from iPod to Hard Drive (without 3rd party software)
The comp. that erased my ipod wasn't even the original comp that had the music (the HD that had the music had to be reformatted and as I said above, the original CD's were stolen).
User-User support = good in simple cases or customization abilities = bad on real software and hardware issues.
Does actual Apple reps ever answer questions on the forums? ever?

  • All my songs got deleted off ipod touch 4g and are not syncing back. How do I fix this?

READ THE WHOLE THING. I went to download a Taylor Swift CD to my ipod. I imported it like usual then hit sync. It didnt work. I tried importing it again and syncing it didnt work. So in the top menu where it says music, summary, ipod etc, I clicked on music. The box where it said sync songs was not checked so I checked it a pop up came up so I hit ok. Needless to say all my songs EXCEPT the Taylor Swift ones are not on my ipod! I have tried everthing to get the songs back.  The funny thing is when I go to library all my songs are in it but when I g to songs it only says there 16... Please reply to this question... I wont my songs back...

  • All songs have vanished from iPod and iTunes won't read it

Hi there. I’m experiencing a rather distressing problem with my 60GB iPod Photo.
I was listening to the iPod yesterday morning and nothing was out of the ordinary. Then I plugged it into my work computer (a desktop G4) and iTunes popped up with the “iTunes cannot read the contents of the iPod… please Restore…” message. However, the computer still recognizes the iPod as a drive (and my files are still present).
More problematic is that when I ejected the iPod, all my songs were missing, even though they are still in there somewhere because I only have 15GB of space available.
I have tried resetting the iPod and that hasn’t worked. Does anyone have any suggestions? I will only restore as a last resort because I don’t have all my music on my computer’s harddrive.
    Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    Hi yodini,
sorry to hear that. If, as you say, your ipod is still recognized as a drive, you could try to copy all your music (assuming it is still on your iPod) from your iPod using the following method. This is a major operation and it definitely helps if you are a little familiar with the terminal. You need to have Apple Development Tools installed for this, otherwise you have to work with hidden files. If you do not have Apple Development Tools installed and first want to see if your music still works and it is worth the effort, follow the steps 1-6.
    1. Connect your iPod.
    2. It should show up on the Desktop as "YouriPodsNameHere".
    3. Go to the terminal (Applications->Utilities->Terminal)
    4. Now we need to navigate to your iPod. In the terminal window type "cd" (without the quotation marks), add a space, (do not hit return yet) and drag your iPod from the Desktop and drop it into the Terminal. On your terminal prompt should now read "cd /Volumes/YouriPodsNameHere/". Hit the return key.
    5. Then we need to navigate to the hidden music files. Type "cd iPod_Control" hit return and then type "cd Music" and hit return, always without quotation marks.
    6. Let's check if your music works. Type "ls" and return. A list should appear, starting with something like F00, F01, F02 etc. Take the first entry in the list, let's say it is F00 and type in "open F00". A finder window appears with all the music in folder F00. The files will be called something like AAVP.m4a. Right click or control click the first one and go to "Open With" and choose "Quicktime Player". One random piece of your music should play now. If we got that far, we know (at least some of) your music is still intact.
    7. Let's copy the music from your iPod to the computer. Create a new folder on the Desktop and call it "Music". Go back to the terminal, make sure a) that you have enough space on your computer hard disk (60 GB) and b) that you are still in the folder
    "/Volumes/YouriPodsNameHere/iPod_Control/Music/".
If not, repeat steps 3 to 5.
Now type "cp -r * ~/Desktop/Music/". Hit return and wait until the prompt reappears. This can take quite a while (hours), your computer has to move gigabytes of data through a USB or FireWire connection! If your prompt reappears, you can enter "ls ~/Desktop/Music/" to see if you succeeded. This should list all the F00, F01 etc. folders.
    8. We have now copied all the music to the Music folder on the Desktop, but it is still invisible in the finder! This is where you need the Development Tools. If you have the tools installed, type
    "/Developer/Tools/SetFile -a v ~/Desktop/Music/*"
and hit return. Then restart the finder (For example  Menu-> Force Quit -> Finder -> Relaunch or log out and log in again). Now you can see all your Music in the finder.
Now you only have to copy your stuff back to your library without creating a lot of duplicates or without deleting ratings and play counts... This is another story, which creates a new set of challenges. Let me know if you got that far and we can discuss what to do next.
Please note that there are also commercially available programs that can get music off your iPod onto the computer (e.g. Yamipod, Senuti, iPodRip) that will be much more userfriendly. However, I am not sure if they will work if iTunes does not recognize your Music and it does not show up on your iPod.
Disclaimer: Everything described above is a bit tricky and working with the terminal has always the potential to ruin your data. So please be careful and decide if the music on your iPod is worth the effort. Let me know if you have questions and/or need specific help.
    Hope that helps, Lars

  • Music randomly deleted off iPod

So my computer that I used primarily got stolen so I'm using my old computer that barely has any music on it. I set my ipod up to use it on my old computer and selected it for manual everything so nothing would get deleted. I went to sync a couple new songs and manually synced them. In turn, almost everything got erased. In iTunes, on the iPod menu, it says everything is still there but it's not showing up on my iPod. I'm freaking out because there was like 7000+ songs on iPod and now I'm down to about 200 or so actually on my iPod and don't know what to do!!!!!
Help please!!!! Has anyone else encountered this? How do I fix it? Is there any way I can get them back?
It's not like I can just sync my iPod with iTunes. I'll lose a lot of music.

  • Not all songs tranfer to my ipod appear on each artist tag

I have this problem, when I tranfer music to my ipod there is no problem all the music transfers, but when i go into the artist folder and I search for an artist and i selected the artist to see wich song i have i realized that not all the songs of that artist are shown there, even they have been transfered to the ipod, because if i look for the song manually its there.
for example I copied all the black eyed peas music i have but when i go into the balck eyed peas tag in artists only appear to me the monkey bussienes album even i have other songs of them, so i look for them in the songs tag and they appear

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync/delete all music and resync
To delete all music go to Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Music>Tap edit in upper right and then tap the minus sign by All Music
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:

  • All songs missing from my iPod Video after playing movies

    hi there,
can some one help me, why everytime after playing my movies, all the songs that i have downloaded into the iPod is missing!
    Where am I did wrong?
    Thanks in Advance!
    cheers

Try restoring your iPod, this will erase the hard drive, reload the software and put it back to default settings so make sure you have everything backed up. Once the restore is complete it should connect to iTunes and you can begin updating your library onto the fresh installation: Restoring iPod to Factory Settings

  • Songs Randomly placed on iPod

Testing the superiority of these Apple Forum Users:
Does anyone know why when I plug in my iPod, and import songs (around 3 grand) the songs imported in a completely random order unlike the usual A to Z way the old iTunes did. R, D, F, O, V, even importing upwards (I checked how I categorized the music, it was categorized Artist: ^ (up arrow), so that wasn't the problem.
    ty
    -Euse

The import order shouldn't matter as long as they all get there.
    What is R, D, F, O, V?
You can change the order of the song display by selecting the column title you want to select by.

  • All songs randomly deleted

So I have a 30 gig video ipod, and I have a bad habit of leaving it plugged in to the computer, and without ejecting it, allowing the computer to go to sleep. Normally this doesn't cause any problems, however the other day I came back to my computer and went to check my itunes and I found all the songs had been deleted off my ipod. I have about 7 gigs of music on it, no movies or anything else. So I was able to replace about the 2 gigs which I had in my library, but I lost the rest since it belonged to an itunes library on a no longer working computer. The interesting thing though is now I have about 5 gigs of space being used up listed as "Other". Does this mean all my songs are still on there? If so, how do I get them?

okay i looked further into it and i think that this post will help immensely. I myself havent tried it yet, but it seems to be what has happened. hope this works for you!!

  • Songs wont come off Ipod

I am trying to delete some albums off of my 8gb Ipod touch. I removed the albums from my library, and also from my music folder, but they still won't come off my Ipod. I recently transferred my library to my new laptop that is Windows 7. Any ideas? Thanks!

    Hello charlie 213,
What happens if you try to reset it? To do this, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons together anywhere from 10 seconds to a minute. Don't be afraid to try this more than once either. Persistence is the key here.
Otherwise, plug the iPod into some sort of external power source and let it charge for awhile and then re-attempt the procedure outlined above as many times as necessary.

  • IPod iTunes is up to date but my iPod wont update all songs???

The fact that Apple wants me to pay $50 for one incident...enough said! Sorry, I'm better now. So I have a legacy issue. iTunes version and iPod software versions are up to date but when I look at "My iPod" through iTunes it does not show all songs synced to my iPod?? Essentially my iPod is locked and grayed out and wont update new songs I have bought from iTunes. There is even a little lock at the bottom of the iTunes page "within" my iPod.... I cannot seem to unlock it and it is not because the iPod is physically on hold. Huge bummer - hugely annoying and Apple help desk wants $50 to tell me whats wrong with their product...

I've just started having a very similar issue. My iPod (20 GB dock connector, touch wheel with the four buttons above etc.) crashed for about the third time, wiped out all the songs on it and crashed iTunes each time I connected it to my Mac. In the past I have just loaded the iPod Updater again to re-install the software and start from scratch so I did this again. However, this is the first time I have done that after upgrading to iTunes 6 and I used an old iPod updater that I had previously downloaded (2005-03-23).
Everything seemed normal except none of the music I have purchased from iTunes will copy across to the iPod, error message = "some of the songs...were not copied..because your iPod software is too old. Go to...to get the latest iPod software update." I downloaded 2005-10-12 but it doesn't seem to do anything. Can anyone help?
With the updater I have just run the .dmg which opens the volume and then I've run the .mpkg. Do I need to do anything else?!?!?
