All Windows versions past 7 uses 100% my HDD

Hello, I have an old Lenovo B560 bought in February 2011. I had Windows 7 installed and it used to work well until Windows 8 was released and i couldn't stop myself upgrade my OS. Since then i have troubles with my HDD usage which is 100% most of the time and if i go to task manager ->performance ->disk in use, the average response time is sometimes more than 10000ms. Thats causing serious problems of slowness on my PC. Since then, i've installed Windows 8.1 and WIndows 10. These days i've disabled the service called BITS and my HDD usage is about 10% most of the time, but there are still many situations when my PC become extremely slow due to high HDD usage. Today i've opened task manager and analyze all those proceses and i've discovered about 40 proceses that are related to services. Did any of you had this situation and managed to overpass it?
Sorry for my bad english.
Thanks in advice,
Andrei Savescu.

1. I am not sure about Windows 10 Technical Preview, I wouldn't recommend if you are using on your main machine.
2. Have you installed the latest BIOS and drivers for your B560 when running Windows 8.1? At times, Windows default driver may not work well on some hardware.

  • Apple Mail client app (version 8.0) using 100%+ of CPU upon using mail drop (13" R-MBP running Yosemite 10.10)

    Hello Support Community,
I am having quite the interesting issue. I have read plenty of reports where users' Apple Mail app is using 100% of CPU. This did not start for me until I went to go use the new mail drop feature in Yosemite. I am running Yosemite (10.10) on my 13" Retina - MacBook Pro (flash storage, 8GB RAM, 2.4 dual-core Intel i5) and my Apple mail is version 8.0. I have tried 3 different mail services (2 gmail accounts and iCloud), all result in the same issue. I have also done a complete erase of the hard disk and a brand new install of Yosemite, the issue persists.
As previously stated my mail app is using 100% upon, and only while, using the mail drop feature. If I force quit the mail app and allow it a minute, the mail app returns to using less than 1% of the CPU and the app and entire system resume normal function. Upon attempting to resend the same message that is placed in my outbox the CPU usage jumps to 50-80%. After a few seconds, the CPU usage will sometimes jump higher than 100%, ranging from 130% - 199%. All of these observations were made using Activity Monitor. Of course you can see my frustration, an app using this much CPU stops every process my Mac is doing (using safari, messages, iTunes etc.) - the whole computer locks up. Even force quitting is a difficult process to attempt.
Does anyone have a fix for this? I am at a loss and have no idea what to do. I am a pretty tech savvy guy and have tried everything that I would've thought would fix this. Is there anyway this could be a hardware issue? I don't think so but... all possibilities need to be taken into consideration, even though that one seems outlandish. Upon creating a new user account with a separate user library (but same system library) I figured the OS was the problem. I can't narrow it down to being a specific mail provider, and it can't be my OS since I have now erased and reinstalled 10.10 twice. Thank you!

I have this same issue.  It has been driving me insane, Mac Mail uses 100% CPU most of the time I use it, after every time I open the machine, or after a sleep or even mostly after a screen saver has locked me out.  It normally settles down after 5-15 minutes, but then happens every time again.  It is killing my battery.

  • Intermittent Sleep problems on all Windows versions I have tried

Macbook Pro 5,1. Running Bootcamp 2.1. Machine will enter sleep mode successfully a few times (1-4 times) and then suddenly will not. Sleep light glows constantly and opening the lid shows a black screen.
Brightness controls work (can see the screen lightening) and volume keys work (here 'pop' noise increasing and decreasing).
I have tried Windows Vista 32/64 and Windows 7 32/64. I have installed updated drivers for NVidia card, Wireless Card, nForce drivers. I have tried disabling all the Apple services. I have made sure no devices are able to bring the machine out of sleep. I have ensured that the Windows Media Service cannot prevent the machine from going to sleep.
Apple support is (muffled scream) useless. All I get is that this is a Windows problem and not supported. (Why do they say that you can run Windows on the Macbook Pro advertisement then?). I have read a posts from other users with the same problem but none of them have resolutions.
Please help. It's the last step I need to make this thing usable. Can't return it, can't get it fixed. Can't get any help Apple and MS won't touch it. Otherwise, I'll swap this for a Dell of similar speed in a second. Any takers?

    Never saw a Macbook Pro;
You Can Google search "Macbook PRO"Windows+sleepfix
Copy paste that into the search & Check various yourself
This one received positive response but seems on the Mac side.

The fix for this problem can be found in the NETWORK panel of System Preferences. Click on the Ethernet Connection
If this service was already marked INACTIVE simply switch it back to MAKE SERVICE ACTIVE and then hit apply.
If it was already set to active then Click on MAKE SERVICE INACTIVE then hit apply.
Now restart your computer. After the restart go back to this same screen and click on MAKE SERVICE ACTIVE, now make sure to hit apply.
This will fix the sleep problems on a Macbook running 10.5.7. Interestingly it also fixes the sleep problems with a Macbook pro running 10.6 Snow leopard.

Just found that disabling the "wake-on sleep" option of my mouse, network and modem seems to fix the problem.
It may just be that my mouse or some other device tries to wake up the PC while it is going to sleep, and the computer gets all confused.
I've been using hibernate as well from the time I first got my macbook. It's really nice to be able to hibernate, boot into OS X, then shutdown OS X and resume the Windows session without having to go through the whole boot process. It's too bad hibernating OS X forces you to wake up in OS X and you can't choose which OS to resume.
Turning off AirPort usually will allow the MBP to sleep, but not always. In those cases, sometimes I have to try two or three times to put it to sleep -- and for whatever reason, it typically takes 30-60 seconds after disconnecting from the wireless connection before it will sleep. (And, yes, I have already disabled SafeSleep.)
For Windows side, from me: a)check all power settings that refer to sleep/disable, this includes doing it at device/adapter level; if you open network conections from C. Panel, right click active adapter(LocalAreaConn.), select properties, then configure "connect Using" you'll see variable power setting. You can see this variable setting in Device Manager as well.

  • Test QA Software within All Windows Versions

    Hello support team !
Testing software within the many versions of windows can take up time  , just installing and setting up windows with all updates and options as well . I am looking for a simple method to install windows such as unattended installation and
get and install all updates , without using a deployment servers , If I can do this then I can travel or  test in the field.
I have completed these steps listed below :
     (1) Created a image using windows ADK and a Anwser File.
     (2) When I run the installation on a test PC using the product CD and the Anwser file located on a USB stick , it does work and the SysPrep tool is displayed with the normal options.
At this point I would like to update windows using the Anwser file I created or a script if I can ?.
I read documentation on package manager , but it appears the ".MSI" , ."CAB" files must be on a distribution share.
    I don't know if "wsu.exe " can do this or not .
If you have any answers for me or a test script to use it would be great .
Also to install or update packages like Office ,Java, Flash do I need to download the package files to a share drive and use package manager to install or update these products ?.
I hope you understand my request  ,  If you have any example scripts or Anwser files I can test it would be helpful
    Thanks !

  • CS4 Suite (all Windows versions) - documentation of XML and pre-configuration of components?

With a view to packaging and deploying CS4 in Microsoft enterprise environments (ie GPO restricted desktops, mandatory user profiles, non-administrative user base, at or near minimum spec hardware) I was wondering if anyone was aware of any documentation, official or otherwise, for pre-configuration or omission of individual components within the CS4 suite in order to more specifically tailor their operation to user requirements.  Eg, such as the way Adobe provide a transform generator/editor for Acrobat in its standalone form.
The instructions for performing silent installs with or without the more major components (such as Dreamweaver, Photoshop etc) work fine, and the Adobe CS4 Deployment Toolkit (aka AdobeUberInstaller) deals with a number of omissions in the base installer such ELUA and updates suppression.  However there are various options within the applications themselves I would like to change the defaults for at install time (eg suppress Adobe Bridge from prompting to run at startup, address Acrobat's refusal to run until another element of the suite has been run first etc), patches I would like to slipstream rather than apply retrospectively (currently Air, Indesign, Photoshop), and some elements (such as foreign language components and 64bit support) I would ideally like to omit from the source package altogether to keep the size down - 6GB+ to 500 clients is quite an ordeal!
Web resources such as application deployment forums have allowed me to address some of the above, but I would be very interested in the feedback/experiences of this community.  I appreciate what I'm asking is somewhat vague but any crumbs of wisdom all add up...
Many thanks in advance for any suggestions.
    Bill

The best is to get the versions in which you have developed/tested. These can be found in MAX under Software, if it is possible provide a link to the NI ftp download URL.
Then export the settings in MAX (for tasks/scales) if you use them and provide a simple app that loads these items into MAX.
For RIO I'm not totally sure but I would create 'Getting started' that outlines what settings (IP/DNS etc.) to get the user started.

  • "Windows 8 using 100% of HDD with high average response times and low read/write speed"

Turns out this is a fairly well known windows 8.1 issue that has been plaguing users since at least 2013 and there is no one simple fix, so it may not be *entirely* hp's fault; but I've had two of these laptops, both the same model, the first one needing to be returned and exchanged for an entirely unrelated issue (hardware failure: ethernet port nonfunctional with lights stuck on). Both are refurbished. Both have been extreemly slow and unresponsive even compared to a lesser Brazos powered laptop I had before, but I've only recently decided to investigate why.
So if there is something HP specific going on here, I hope there is one simple fix. My average response time has gone up as far as well over a minute (>60,000ms), so I may be an outlier case here compared to the typical windows 8.1 hardrive responsiveness/bandwidth problem.
Edit: there is a case with another HP pavilion laptop (intel powered though, so it may be an intel storage driver issue described in the first link) being much, much worse.
    This question was solved.

  • Why is the latest version of Firefox 33.0.2 using 100% of my CPU?

Just like the last update to Thunderbird, with no changes on my system, the latest version of Firefox uses 100% of my CPU where it didn't before. I've run every test, disabled my anti-virus, run in safe mode and it makes no difference.
Since there was no useful answers when I posted about the TB problem, I doubt there will be any here.
Sorry Mozilla, but you're about to lose my support. I already moved away from Thunderbird. Now that FF has the same problem, I'm about to switch my browser to Chrome, even though it is not as good.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problem.
    See "Creating a profile":
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_-_Firefox#Profile_issues
If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.

  • I Beta tested 4.0 RC1 and now can not upgrade to 4.0. Error message is need to reboot to complete prior instalation. Have removed all previous versions of Firefox, rebooted and still same error message.

I Beta tested up to and including 4.0 RC1 without major problems. However I can not now upgrade to 4.0. Same error message time and again, "need to reboot to complete prior upgrade instalation". I rebooted several times, then tried first removing all previous versions of Firefox using both MS Add/Remove and then iolo System Mechanic, then again downloading 4.0. Even after rebooting same error message. I can not therefore install/use Firefox.

    Do a clean (re-)install:
    * Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    * Firefox 4.0: http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html
    * Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
    * Don't remove personal data if you uninstall the current version.
    * It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere (not in the Firefox program folder) and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

  • New MacBook Pro appearing with Iphoto, Imovie and Iweb all 2008 versions

I bought a MacBook Pro in March 2013 (new from best buy) and it's running os x 10.8.4. However, for some reason the Iphoto, Imovie and Iweb are all 2008 versions. I used an external hard drive to transfer from my old macbook to the new macbook. What went wrong? Why wasn't the new version of Iphoto, Imovie and Iweb on my computer?
Should I back up onto my external again and reinstall? I had a lot of trouble transfering the data over in the first place because some security software from my school was messing with the transfer, however once it was deleted everything went smoothly. Thoughts?

You migrated your files from an older computer. If you migrated apps, iLife applications were transferred, so you have an old iLife edition.
The only thing you have to do is to open Finder, choose Applications in the sidebar and delete iLife apps. Then, open the App Store, go to Purchases tab and download iLife applications free of charge. All Macs come with iLife applications free of charge

Firefox 6 will not allow you to paste a cookie into the addressbar like all previous versions have. I use software to replace web chat and must do this and have been able to do it in all past versions. What's the deal?

    Thank you for your response.
After searching around for any pointers to my problem, the above fixes I listed were the things that came closest to maybe addressing the issue, that I was able to locate. But since none worked, and as you pointed out, it is now clear they will only help towards viewing sent images rather than helping with inserting any images in the body of the email, which is the problem I suddenly started facing today.
Coming to your suggestion, on opening the Write window, the Insert choice on the menu bar is indeed available. And I had already tried using that, by clicking on the '''Insert ----> Image''' option listed. That opens
up the "Image Properties" box but using that has not resolved the matter either. It results in an image box getting inserted within the email but without the actual image itself.
Plus, normally I am able to use the '''Paste''' function in the Edit menu or through right-click, but today the (Cut/Copy/Paste) functions have gone inactive, thereby disallowing me to use that to place an image within the email.

I am using Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit OS.I've never had this problem before... today I opened iTunes and it prompted me to download the newest version.  I use iTunes all the time and have updated it multiple times with no issues.  During the installation process it gave me an error message that said:
    Runtime error!
    Program C:\Program Files\iTunes.exe
    R0634
An application has made an attempt to load the C runtime library incorrectly.
Please contact the application's support team for more information.
I quit the installation, uninstalled iTunes and rebooted my computer.  I now receive a similar message with a slight difference:
    Runtime error!
    Program C:\Program Files (x86)...
    R0634
An application has made an attempt to load the C runtime library incorrectly.
Please contact the application's support team for more information.
I did not leave anything out from the error message.  It doesn't point to a specific file, it just ends with "(x86)..."  Every time I boot up my computer, this error message pops up on my desktop.
How do I repair this issue?  I have found multiple suggested solutions but am unsure which one is the best, and I don't want to try a bunch of different things for fear I may make the problem worse.  I would like to try and fix this myself if possible but I need to know if that is really possible or if I need to take my computer to someone for repairs.  Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!!

    Hi lustyln,
I'm having a little trouble understanding all of what you are trying to explain. From what I can tell, it sounds like your PC has a lot of software problems and you want to know what is supposed to be there and what isn't.
For reference, here are your product specifications:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&dlc=en&docname=c01893242&lc=en&product=4043282
To get your PC software back to how it was when it was first purchased, run a system recovery:

    I hope this helps.

I have been able to open PDF docs using C# API Process.Start("Full_path_To_the_PDF_File") in windows 7 or windows 8 with all previous versions of Acrobat32 reader.
However, with v11.0, the same command, in Windows 8, it does not open the PDF document. I can see the Acrobat(32) started in the task manager, but the document does open. Not sure how I can troble shoot this problem. Any help would be appreciated.

I haven't use the C# API but I imagine it is the same as C ShellExecute. Which in turn is the same thing (in essence) as double clicking in Windows Explorer.
So... does Adobe Reader run normally on this machine?
And does it start and open if you double click on a PDF file?
