ALT KEY gets stuck!

ive been searching the net and forums for the solution of this problem and figured out that there are dozen of blackberry curve users having this same problems. but never did i see anyone giving the right solution. is this really a common problem for blackberry 8520? they dont even know how to solve this problem yet WHAT's happening!? removing the battery for 5min and putting it back again DOESNT WORK! upgrading the OS DOESNT WORK! im really getting annoyed. sorry can anyone help? im desperate. thanks

Is the problem one of the ALT key getting stuck? Stuck how?
Does it get stuck as in stuck down like it sticks depressed?
Or does it remain bouncy ok, but the NUM icon remains on screen?
If you press the lower left SHIFT key, does this remove the NUM icon?

  • ALT key is stuck.

It seems that the Alt key is stuck on my phone. There is an arrow in the upper right corner and it is responding to each button as if the alt key is pressed. Any clue how to get this to go away? Thanks!

    Welcme to the Frums!
Try removing your battery. Replace after 30 seconds - allowing your phone to reboot.
    See if that helps!

  • Keys getting stuck (not physically)

    Hi,
Today I realized that my ctrl key gets stuck. If I try and press ctrl + 1 nothing happens, but if I after that press just 1 it behaves as i pressed ctrl + 1 and it won't stop behaving like that until I press just ctrl to "deactivate" it.
The only way to solve it temporarily is to restart the computer
This started after the following changes to the computer was done:
Used the software updater (not used since buying the computer in may/june or so)
    Installed USB Overdrive
    Installed WoW
Any ideas on how this could be solved?

Try resetting the SMC and if that doesn't handle it try resetting the PRAM. Here are instructions if you aren't familiar with these:
    _SMC RESET_
    • Shut down the computer.
    • Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected. Disconnect all peripherals.
    • On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
    • Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
    • Press the power button to turn on the computer.
    _PRAM RESET_
    • Shut down the computer.
    • Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    • Turn on the computer.
    • Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
    • Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    • Release the keys.

  • Sticky keys get stuck

Almost every time I try to select more than one item using either shift-click or ctrl-click, the shift button gets stuck in an 'on' position & I have to repeately hit the ctrl and esc keys until it clears. I have reinstalled all the relevant utilities (including common modules and accessibility), but the problem remains unsolved.
    Does anyone have any ideas?
    Paul Redfern

    Hello Paul
Does this problem occur since first day? It will be interesting to know which unit you have.
On this way it is not easy to say if there is some hardware problem or if this strange issue is caused by dust or some other reason. In my opinion you must try to find out if this is caused by key mechanism.
Anyway I am pretty sure that this can not be caused by software.
Please let us know if you solve it successfully.

  • MACBOOK air appears as though alt key is stuck

My on screen keyboard is showing the cahracters as though the alt key is pressed.
When I type it only brings up symbols. The alt key however is not stuck and the keyboard is new.
How do I fix this problem?

    Hi rballiram,
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
It seems like your MacBook Air is recognizing that the option key is being pressed when it isn't; and you've confirmed by checking the Keyboard Viewer (onscreen keyboard) in OS X.
This was a good isolating step, and if the behavior isn't caused by the keyboard itself, try booting into Safe mode next:
Follow these steps to start up into Safe Mode.
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup sound, press and hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be pressed as soon as possible after startup, but not before the startup sound.
Release the Shift key when you see the Apple logo appear on the screen.
After the Apple logo appears, it may take longer than usual to reach the login screen. This is because your computer is performing a directory check as part of Safe Mode.
To leave Safe Mode, restart your computer without pressing any keys during startup.
    From:
OS X: What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode? - Apple Support
If your Mac behaves normally in Safe mode, try resetting the NVRAM (also called PRAM) and the System Management Controller using the steps at these links:

    Hi All,
We have several users within our environment that are experiencing this issue. The issue being that sometimes the return key will get 'stuck' on and if they are in outlook it'll start creating hundreds or appointments, or in word the same with new documents it can be solved by just pressing another key on the keyboard but it can completely crash the VM due to lack of resources

  • Caps lock key gets stuck on

We are using Sun Ray Software 5.2.1 and connecting to Citrix XenApp 6.5 servers running on windows server 2008R2. We have an issue where randomly the caps lock key is stuck On, and its not just the light, the actually caps lock is stuck and you can only type capital letters. The only solution we have found is to log off and then log back in for a new session and everything is good again. This doesn't work however if the users desktop is locked from the screensaver timeout, because then they can't type in their password correctly to log off the session. The only solution is for me to manually log them off within the Citrix XenApp console.
    Any ideas?

Which citrix client are you using? Have you tried killing the sun ray session with CTRL+ALT+Backspace? The Session should restart after that and it would not involve administrative intervention.
You could also try and disable caps lock with xmodmap if you don't need it.
    Just some ideas

  • T440s Control key getting stuck

I have a T440s touch screen version running windows 8.1 64bit Pro and using the latest 2.26 firmware.
Most of the time I use the laptop on an Ultradock with no issue.
However on the odd occasion when I use the laptop standalone I use the trackpoint (not sure if this relevant) and have found the computer is acting as if control is being presed. I am certain I have not used the Shift or control key and sticky keys is not on. When this problem occurs no amount of pressing control or shift resolves the problem and the only way to recover is to reboot the computer.
Anyone seem this issue or know how to solve it.

    OK
So I've been doing a little more research and the only thing I can find is on some old ASUS and Toshiba forums with people reporting similar issues.
The most promising solution seems to be to disable 'Pinch to Zoom' on the trackpad driver. I'll give that a go and see how things progress.
As a side note I've only had the laptop a couple of months and I am pretty sure I didn't have the issue when I bought it, although it has since been upgraded to Win 8.1 from 8.0 and all firmware/driver patches applied (firmware 2.25 mentions some shift/control key fixes...Hmmmm...).

  • Rmbp "wasd" keys get "stuck"

So it doesn't matter what game I play on my rmbp, I walk with "wasd" and my keys "stick" or rather they don't register the release of the key. So I let go of the movement key but in the game I still move in whichever direction I'm moving at the time. It doesn't happen everytime, but a quite a few times an hour. So much that it makes a difference, now I've made sure my keys are clean, and I hear the click when I hit the key.. And the key comes all the way back up to level with the rest of the keys on release. I have a Windows laptop aswell, and I've never had this problem with that, I'm really wondering if there is a setting I'm overlooking? Or if there has been questions like this before that has been resolved?
    Thanks for any help.
EDIT: I'd also like to add, that the "wasd" keys outside of games do not repeat. They work the same as any other key. Also other keys used in games like, " I " for Inventory, or "M" for Map, don't have this problem either, even if I use them over excessively, just like the "wasd" keys. ( Consitantly hitting them over and over )

    Hi
What do you mean exactly? The key mechanism or the key software issue?
If you mean the key mechanism so I would recommend removing the keycap from the keyboard and then you can try to clean the key place. Maybe a dirt and filth could have a bad influence on the key usage.
But if this is a software issue so the cleaning procedure will not help.
Sometimes looses keyboard cable could have a bad influence on the keyboard function.
Did you try to reinstall the OS? I think you should check if the new OS installation could solve this issue.

  • I'm having problems with my keyboard since the 8.3 update. It's like the keys get stuck, I keep touching the keys, then it adds a period. I tried the soft reset, I turn my phone off every night. Help?

MY keyboard has been giving me trouble since I updated the iOS 8.3. It stutter stops while I'm texting, if I keep trying to type it may eventually catch up, but also drops a period if I keep hitting the space bar because the cursor isn't moving. Yet another problem with an update. This has been the worst year to own an apple product!

You mentioned that you tried connecting to other types of routers - was that successful?
Have you tried resetting your Network settings within your phone?
I Tried everything you mentioned before, and still havin" the problem, Im gonna try these un-official solutions  --> https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4909703?start=240&tstart=0
Do you think that by upgrading to iOS 7 can solve this problem?

  • Alt key stuck when using mouse in flash CS5.5 on os x lion. sucks. please help.

    Hi there,
since I've updated to lion flash cs5.5 is utterly unusable. The alt key is always stuck in this app when I use the mouse. So if I select something then try to move it, it copies it (as if I was holding down alt key). It basically means I can't use flash for anything..
Has anyone else had this issue and resolved it?
I saw similar forum posts for photoshop cs5 and snow leopard, and even tried the utility provided on those forums. Didn't work.
I removed my wacom tablet driver,
    I reinstalled flash,
I shut down EVERYTHING except flash.  Nothing works - alt key is always active in flash.
Is this some kind of bad joke from Adobe? Is there really no fix for this? I can't believe it - honestly...
Additional note - in the key remapping page - it reckognizes the alt key normally, and all other key combinations - it is only when using the mouse that the alt key is stuck.

    Hello,
I was having the same exact problems with Flash Professional after upgrading my OS X to Lion.  (Alt/Option key seems like it's stuck / Duplicating objects on stage just by clicking and moving the object.)  My main problem was not being able to curve a straight line with the Arrow tool.  Instead it would create a corner point as if the Alt/Option key was being held.
I stumbled upon this thread before finding my solution so I thought I'd share what worked for me.
Here is the thread I found with the solution that worked:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/5222999
Basically I had a program called AirDisplay installed.  AirDisplay allows me to use my iPad as a second monitor for my Mac.  So if you have this program installed, or one similar to AirDisplay, uninstalling this program may get your Flash Professional to work correctly again.  It certainly did for me to my amazement.
Hope this works for you or anyone else who is experiencing this weird and frustrating problem!

  • Seems like my Control or Alt keys are "on" after browsing with Firefox and I have to control-click or alt-click on the desktop to set things back to normal

After a browsing session using Firefox, my system behaves like either the Contol key or Alt key is stuck "on". For example if I start clicking icons on my desktop, each one is highlighted and "added" as if I were holding down the control key while clicking on each one (thus selecting all the icons). If I physically press the control key and click, then click again without the control key down, the system then behaves as normal.

Use "Firefox/File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit") to close Firefox if you are currently doing that by clicking the close X on the title bar.
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

  • Alt/Option Key gets registered with any key I type. How can I fix

    Hello,
Today I encountered an issue. Suddenly my macbook air is typing everything as if the alt/option key was stuck. When I display keyboard viewer I realize that it is not being registered as being pressed. However, as soon as I press any key all the characters switch into their respective symbols as if the alt/option key was active. I notice that if nothing is being pressed, the keyboard viewer displays all characters as regular, but as soon as any key gets pressed, they all switch to symbols and if held down, the image of symbols persist in replacement to the characters. I've tried disabling the alt/option key- no result. I tried restarting the computer-no result. I tried removing both alt/option keys manually and cleaning them- no result. Is this a hardware issue or some bug/malware causing my character registration to be messed with?
Thank you very much for any help

Try another keyboard.  It it works ok, this indicates your internal one is most likely damaged and needs repair/replacement.  Any software problem will affect all keyboards.

  • Text won't stop deleting, delete key appears to get "stuck"

Sorry if this is in the wrong topic, I have never used the support forums for any of the multitude of problems I have had with my Mac, but this one is severe and odd enough that I couldn't even find anyone else discussing it (although I'm sure someone is, but I tried many search key combinations on Google and only found unrelated things), so I decided to at least get it documented.
I have had an issue that has happened at least 3 times I can remember (I am fairly certain it has happened more, closer to 7-8, those are just the times I am 100% confident about), although very spaced apart and infrequent, where my delete/backspace key seems to get "stuck". However, at least one time I can verify that I never even hit the key. Whatever text I currently have open immediately starts deleting at lightspeed, and I can do nothing to stop it. None of the other keys on my keyboard work, and though my mouse works, if I click somewhere else, it starts deleting the text there. When I force it to go to another window where there isn't an open text box, I get the general Mac error sound, and it repeats non-stop, and faster than I've ever heard it. I have to do a hard shut-down, although once it led to a kernal panic. When I have stopped whatever is happening before it panics though, when I restart, I don't receive any kind of error message, nor the message about OS X not having been shut down properly.
Every single time it has happened when I was typing something that couldn't be saved, like a message on a forum, a private message on a site or an IM chat window. Sometimes I lost a half hour's worth of work or more.
The first time it happened, I honestly thought someone had managed to hack into my computer, but another time I was using a physical modem and Airport was turned off, and when I ripped out the cord, it didn't stop.
I have a MacBook Pro from 2007, running the most recent version of Tiger. I haven't had the money to upgrade. All security updates are up-to-date, with one exception: I have not upgraded to the most recent version of iTunes.
Honestly, I currently am having and have been having a bunch of other severe issues with my Mac, so troubleshooting will be quite difficult as it's not at all impossible it's a result of one of my other problems. I also currently am dealing with some health problems that make me unable to try to find the root of the problem, specifically I have a problem with my hand and wrist that makes typing very difficult.
If someone does recognize this issue and already knows why it might be happening, I'd appreciate the help. I'd also appreciate anyone letting me know how I can prevent it OR what to do when it begins and how to stop it. But I probably will be unable to go through a typical troubleshooting rundown.
As I said, I just wanted this documented, and I also would like to know if anyone else has had this problem. I have never experienced an issue like this with any of my past computers, including Macs and PCs. I do know however that the key is NOT physically getting stuck - as in getting lodged down and continuing to be pressed. There is at least 1 time I can verify I never even hit the key (I wasn't typing anything at the time). I am fairly sure the problem is entirely unrelated to the actual delete key itself.
I'll describe the symptoms one more time:
At a random time, with no discernible warning, text contained in whatever text box I have open begins deleting itself. Several paragraphs disappear in a matter of seconds.
Pressing escape or any other key on the keyboard does nothing. If I click to another area in the text, it will immediately begin deleting wherever I have placed the cursor. If I go to another window with text that can be edited, it begins deleting there. It does not delete in more than one place simultaneously.
If I bring another window without any kind of "deletable" text to the front, one of the general Mac error sounds (I'm not sure which one it is) starts happening and repeats without stopping at a rate that could induce a seizure. To stop it all, the only thing I have found can be done is a hard shut-down. Another time it continued to end in a kernal panic. I wish I had the details of the error, but it was so long ago and I have no idea which panic is the right one in the logs.
I have no way of knowing what programs were running at the time, as obviously that's not something I'm able to pay attention to when it happens, and it has happened so randomly and infrequently it's nothing I've been able to document. Since I have to restart to make it stop, I've then lost that info and I have no time to try to write it down or something beforehand.
I have not had any similar issues that I know of (for instance, for the "g" key keeps repeating and won't stop typing "g's") and I've never experienced this on any past computer.
Thanks for anyone who can help!
If you aren't able to offer advice but have had this issue yourself, PLEASE let me know. I can't seem to find anyone who has experienced this particular problem.

"Cleaning the keyboard is the first step in troubleshooting sticky/stuck keys."
Okay, I guess I misunderstood, although I am still confused. You're saying that since the other user did an extensive clean of their keyboard and this did not solve the problem, it is "most likely" a hardware problem, correct? Wouldn't a thorough cleaning without any results show that it's probably not physically related to the keyboard?
"The "delete" key may be defective or the cover you are using somehow is making the key stick. If you have ruled out the latter and everything else, your only other alternative is to take the MBP to your local Apple Store or AASP. The staff will check out your keyboard (free) to confirm if you are having a hardware problem. If you have AppleCare or ProCare, the repairs will be free. If not.................."
Well, I had just said in my most recent post that it has now happened with other keys, and in my initial post that it happened at times when my hands were nowhere near the keyboard. It is not a defective delete key and the cover is not making the keys stick - it doesn't adhere to them and does not have any sticky substance on it of any kind. I am an experienced computer user, and I know my computer very well. While I am not a psychic that can always know what is causing a problem, I am able to discern with much accuracy what is NOT causing it.
Also, I have significant health issues so getting to an Apple store would be a huge challenge for me. And although I have AppleCare any repairs won't be free. Due to some small physical damage my laptop obtained a few years ago, I have been completely refused almost all service that I paid over $300 for, even though the damage is completely superficial. After fighting this, I was told they WOULD repair my computer, however, they would also repair the physical damage despite my insisting NOT to; I had no choice in the matter and the cost would be a minimum of $1,500 (I also would not be informed the exact price until after and my credit card would be charged without my knowledge - I had to give them my credit card number and sign away their right to make any charges and when I requested being contacted before they charged me for the repairs I didn't want done, I was told they did not do that). My family is struggling to pay for my $5 medications.
When my logic board died (that same issue that affected thousands of computer users), I had to print out Apple's report from their site, which stated that they would replace and repair them free of charge to ANY Mac owner with a computer that met certain qualifications (which mine did). When it happened, completely out of nowhere, I knew immediately that was the problem, yet still had to go through the insulting and idiotic "Is your computer plugged in?" list of things and a customer WITH AppleCare was being refused a service they'd offered to people WITHOUT AppleCare, for a known manufacturing defect that has occurred widely in nearly every brand of computer made.

  • Getting white screen when booting with alt key

Hi, I've installed windows 7 with boot camp on my brand new iMac 27" on OS X Lion.
Everything works fine when I configure boot camp to start as mac, or as windows.
However If I press the alt key when booting, as per this tutorial http://labnol.blogspot.com/2006/04/boot-camp-tutorial-install-windows-xp.html I get a white screen and that's it. Any Idea as to what might be the problem?

    Hi
Try resetting the Parameter RAM (PRAM) - pronounced peeram. Restart the mac and depress the P, R, alt and command keys simultaneously. You should hear the boot chime. Keep the keys depressed until you hear the boot chime three more times. Release the keys thereafter.
Other possibilities are: you're filling up the hard drive and you need to clear some space; a problem is developing with the hard drive and/or directory structure. You need to run a disk repair utility such as fsck, DU's Repair Disk coupled with Repairing Privileges or something 3rd-Party such as Disk Warrior.
