Alternatives to "explore" / profile BW cube

We have implemented Solution Manager Diagnostics which is generating cubes in the Solution Manager onboard BW system. Our goal is to expand on (customize) the existing dashboards that SAP supplies with Solution Manager.
Towards this end we are trying to look at the underlying data to determine what is actually being captured. Right now, we are using RSA1 to display the data and then using a few queries from the Bex Query designer tool. This works, but it's a little tedious and doesn't seem to be very efficient. So, we are wondering what the easiest alternative might be to analyze the data in these Soltuion Manager BW cubes
Here are a couple of options we have been considering:
(1) We do have an existing (separate) BW system and BWA. So we thought we could simply add the Solution Manager BW cubes to our BWA system and then use Business Objects Explorer to "explore" the data. While this is the simplest and most direct approach, we may face a constraint since our BWA system is already at or very near it's capacity.
(2) We do have Data Services, but it it is still pretty new to us and we don't have a lot of experieince with this tool. We have used it to profile data, but these have all been external data sources (MS-SQL, Oracle, Flat file). We really don't know how to (or if we can) use it to look at an exsiting BW cube. Any insight, experiences, or documentation around that would be greatly appreciated.
If anyone else has any thoghts or suggestions, or input we would be grateful!

Some benefits of having a BW system within solman ....
1. Real time update possible
2. Query response will be faster
Disadvantages :
1. Separate BW system , additional manitenance
2. Possibly have to integrate with existing BW landscape for reporting using federation etc which makes the whole thing complicated.
as for having all this in a central BW system
1. Central monitoring and support
2. All data available in single place
Disadvantages:
1. Realtime data loads might not make sense
2. Might lead to a siloed data mart which is specifically built and does not integrate with other reporting areas
Questions for you ...
1. As for BWA - if the data volumes are smaller - you really do not need BWA - the cube should be fast enough - the decision to put it on BWA can be taken after the cubes are put into the central BW system
2. You could connect your BO landscape to this BW Instance as well and have universes built on these cubes.
3. How are you managing authentication - are there two sets of IDs ..? one for BE Central instance and one for the Solman BW..?
From a datawarehousing standpoint - you most likely will benefit by having all data in one single instance of BW , and BWA is not an essential requirement for reporting.

That said, since 4.0 SP06 / 4.1 it is now possible again to index on OLAP .UNV (BAPI-based MDX universes, ontop of BW BEx queries) - but this doesn't apply to you.

Problem with setting profile to explorer

Hi all,
I have created folder inside the folder i included external links, for this i have used BE Portfolio IView and copied as delta link and changed default profile for folder view to Explorer profile which will give the links like windows explorer. Using this IView created page and worksheet and finally role.
My problem
1. i have changed the IView profile to explored view, but it is not reflecting when i see the prview of the page(creating using the iview only)
2. If i change the profile to explored in page preview also it's not reflecting in role which is created using this page and worksheet only.
3. I tried to change the profile after assinging to my user id. When i assign the same role to another user same facing problem
My requirement is to create roles based on these iviews and assing to many users. For this i have to change the profile display to Explorer by logging into each user and changing for each role which is very time taking.
Can anyone tell me how to change my profile to explorer(profile is folder view display) by changing the iview profile it should be applied to page and role. i have creating iview,page and all as delta link.

ProfileManager: how to force an update of profile?

I'm a new user of ProfileManager.
I've removed a profile (for Email Service) from the "Settings for Everyone" profile, because I've created an alternative email service profile for each of the two types of user on our system. The new profile has appeared on machines successfully (i.e. they've got new email settings based on the new profiles) but the old email settings haven't gone away.
The settings in profile manager show that there is no email profile in the Settings for Everyone profile, but when I open the profile on an OS X client and look at the profiles in System Preferences, the entry for the "Settings for Everyone" profile still shows the email setting as part of it. The old mail account also still appears on iOS devices (but you can't review the content of the profiles on iOS as far as I can tell). For now simply disabling the old account in the settings on the various machines achieves the desired user experience, but would be interested to know what the right way of doing this is...
Will this sort itself out in due course? Or have I done something wrong? Or do I need to do something extra to complete the change?

setting for everyone is not normally a push profile
it's usually user optional install by download from http://yourserver/mydevices or via email
so you'd have to either email the new "settings for everyone" profile with the old mail settings removed
to users and get them to install it, or get them to download it again from your server

BO Explorer on 4.0

Hi,
As we know, BO explorer supports only .unx universes.
InfoCubes and BEx queries are not supported for.unx universes.
So, the only way to use BO Explorer is to create a relational database connection for .unx.
This is still a problem since we can't create a connection based on BEx queries.
Considering the SAP's strategy about improving the connection capabilities of BO to BW structures. Isn't it a big conflict?
Especially when you think that it was quite easy on XI 3.1 to create a .unv on OLAP or Bex and then use them to create information spaces for BO Explorer.
I would totally understand, if we could use BICS connections to create information spaces but it's also not possible.

BEx Query in BO Explorer

Hi,
What are the current options to view BW data in BO explorer.
Is there an option to use Bex Query and expose it directly in BO Explorer?
Are we still using universes on top of Bex queries to expose data in explorer?
I read somewhere that there are two different formats of Universes. Which one do we have to use if Universes are the option.
I know if we use BWA we can use BWA Explorer to expose cubes and use the data in explorer. But with this approach we are limited to the data in the cube and we loose those restrictions and filters we use in Bex. Any suggestions on this?
Also can you provide the steps for the best option?

Hi Dave
If you have neither HANA nor BWA in place, you can still have two options for using Explorer on top of Bex:
1. use an .unv universe on top of a Bex Query as suggested here. This is the second option suggested by Ingo available as of BI4.1.
2. Load your Bex query to a DSO in BW, and expose the data to Explorer via an .unx as suggested here. This is available as of BW 7.3

You should try using autorizations to restrict access to planning objects in IP, similar to what planning profiles do.

Computer never showed how to transfer music onto Ipod

My computer never told me how to move music onto my ipod, I have no idea what Im doing.... Help...?

The iPod offers three ways to transfer music from your computer. You can select one of the following update modes from the iPod Preferences menu in iTunes (Edit=>Preferences=>'iPod' tab):
1) Automatically update all songs and playlists. This is the default mode, in which your entire music library, including playlists, is automatically synced to your iPod. If the music library on your computer exceeds the iPod storage capacity, you are prompted to select a different update method.
2) Automatically update selected playlists only. With this option, iTunes automatically copies the playlists you have selected to the iPod when you connect it to the computer.
3) Manually manage songs and playlists. You can also choose to transfer music to the iPod manually. This allows you to drag and drop individual songs and playlists from iTunes to the iPod.
Your profile says you are using Windows ME, is that correct? There is no version of iTunes for ME so you would need third party software to manage an iPod. See these links for iTunes alternatives:

Open Hub in BW 3.5

Hello Experts,
I need to dump all the data (with all the characteristics) of an infocube onto a table.
For this, I am implementing it through an infospoke.
I am selecting all the 42 infoobjects which are present in my infocube.
However I am getting an error which says that only 16 chars are allowed.
Can someone please tell me as to how I could dump the entire data of the cube (with all the characteristics) onto a table through open hub.
If not through open hub, could some one pls if there is any alternative method to dump the cube data onto a table.

My problem is solved and I am able to proceed further.
I am now proceeding further to dump the data from the cube to the DB table.
I have activated my infospoke.I now have the destination as say eg: /BIC/OHZTEST.
However under se11, I am not able to see this table yet.
Is there somethign that I am missing inorder to push the data from my cube to the DB table?
PS: I have already selected the datasource as my cube

Sales order item data & sales order schedule data

I have a Sales Orders cube which is pulling data from two DSOs (one for sales order item data and the other for sales order schedule data). The common fields between these two DSOs is the Sales Order number but in my cube I have dual entries for each Sales Order document (item and schedule info).
Example of how the data looks now:

Two previous remarks:
1) If you need to report on very detailed data consider doing an info-set joining both datastores. 2 reasons why:
- not a good idea to report on very detailed information (sales order, GI dates) on cube level, if you have a scenario with lots of data. You end up with big dimension tables a poor report times;
- there are better alternatives, like drill-through from cube query to DS query with report to report interface or Datastore-based reporting...so...
With this solution you do not need to change the data model, I think, but test to be sure. See if the reporting times are acceptable. If not...
2) First confirm your requirements, because what you show in your example as "to-be" have details that do not make sense, probably..
- if you have more that one schedule line for each item then you would have many times the item information like material/price;
- if not or if you could cope with that, then you can consider:
2.1) create a new DS that agregattes from the previous on, with the same key of sales order item; do you have schedule line kf's? if so you these KF's should be additive in DS update; But if you may have more one scheduled line for 1 item then you have to decide what to do with the GI data (keep the last one posted, use code..) and other characteristics.
2.2) update the shedule line datasource to the sales order item DS; same comments apply.
2.3) maintain the missing data in the cube update rules from sheduled lines DS. Using code, refer to the respective item in the order item ODS. You would have to make sure that DS's data are correctly activated before updating the infocube.
What solutions to choose?
2.1 is better in terms of flexibility and architecture...because you could re-arrange the new DS to answer future needs, without loosing the 1st line DS's data;
2.2 choose if data volumes and disk space are a concern...
or
2.3 it's OK, but i do not like it because of what explained in point 1...

How can i add bookmarks from my old hard drive to new hard drive on the same computer without overwriting the new bookmarks on my new hardrive? Cheers

The old hard drive was operating on Xp and new hard drive is Windows 7, if this makes any difference.

Unfortunately there is no simple method and, the workaround is far from perfect. The .json files Firefox uses overwite the existing bookmarks but the .html option appends and does not overwrite.
First of all backup all bookmarks on each hard drive. The best method of doing that is to backup the Firefox profiles, that captures the bookmarks databases (''places.sqlite'') and the autobackups that Firefox holds.

I/Messaging and Instagram crash when I try to take a picture through them, Camera app works though

Hi community.
     I use an iPhone 4s that's about seven months old. When I open Instagram, I can freely browse through my following photo stream, explore profiles, etc. But when I open the page to edit or take my own picture, it crashes immediately. Same with i/Messaging - I select the option to take a photo or video and attach it to my message, but as soon as the shutter "clicks" the app crashes (this happened when texting both iPhone owners and non-owners).
     However, I can take and save pictures using the Camera app perfectly fine and have no trouble attaching pictures to messages, so long as the photos were previously taken. No problems with screenshots or saving pictures from the internet either.
     What could be the cause of this? Is it repairable? Thanks for your help.

For Instagram you can try and uninstall and reinstall the app and see if that fixes it. But if not you can try and resetting all settings, Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings.

Using WebI with SAP BW Data - Best practice for introducing BW Accelerator

Hi,
We have a significant investment in using BOE XI 3.1 SP2 integrated to SAP BW 7.0 EHP 1 SPS05.
Now we intend to introduce BW Accelerator to improve the data fetch performance for the Adhoc (WebI) Analysis and the formatted reports built using WebI (Infoview).
Data handling in question is approx. 2 Million+ records for each WebI report / adhoc analysis (20 to 30 columns).
The solution could be BW Cubes --> BW Accelerator --> BW Queries --> BO Universe --> WebI using Infoview
Does it really help in introducing the BW Accelerator like the case described above ?
Understand that the BW Accelerator could improve the performance of the underlying data and hence the BW Queries do work faster; but does it really improve (9x to 10x) performance for the MDX Queries generated by the BO Universe ( BOE XI 3.1 SP2 ) & WebI.
What is the roadmap for the future wrt BW Accelerator and SAP BI BO Integration; if we intend to use WebI ?
Or should be migrate to BO Explorer as the front end for Adhoc Analysis ?
Is BO Explorer able to present 1 Million + records with 20-30 columns ?
What is the best practice / better on performance; as an integrated product / solution ?

We have a mix of Adhoc Analysis (60 %) and Formatted Reports (40%). We selected WebI as the tool for the purpose & used it for requirements which process approx. 2M records. We faced bottleneck issues on performance (we are on BO XI 3.1 SP2 & SAP BW 7.0 EHP1, SP05).
We are further analyzing possibility to introduce BWA; if this can handle similar record processing & still preserve our investment on OLAP Universes, WebI, SAP Integration Kit & training users on WebI frontend.
I see a lot of documentation suggesting "BO Explorer and BWA" - understand that BWA would improve the DB time and BO Explorer would help on the Front-end / OLAP time.
Request your guidance on the road map & continuation of investment using BWA + WebI.

Unable to access Firefox

I updated to the latest Firefox a couple of days ago & Yahoo also applied an update to their service. However, I did not like the changes but couldn't find a way to return to the way things were so I used a thing called "system restore" to go back a few days but since then my computer just won't work properly. Normally my default browser is Firefox & when I start up yahoo messenger appears & if I click it I can access my email & the web via Firefox. Now when I try to do this or click on any desktop icons an error message appears saying Windows couldn't access it. The only icon that works is Internet Explorer.

Dynamically provide Transformation Map to ESB

My requirement is to create a "black box" module which takes in
1) custom mapping (XSL file)
2) DB Key (bind value)
3) DB Query
Can we create a Generic ESB service which would take all these values and return the output xml after applying the transformation XML ?
The whole module acts as a web service to extract the data from DB in custom format.
My Queries are :
--->can we build a Routing service with transformation Map file value provided dynamically ?
--->Can we provide DB adapter Query and bind value dynamically in DB Adapter ?
are there any other alternatives to explore ?

I dont know the data needed at design time, only know it at runtime. Its HR related. Depending on customizing one infotype can have several sub-infotype. Today we got 5 sub-infotypes, next year maybe 8. I dont want to hardcode this.
I know I can dynamically add nodes to the context. But I dont know whether dynamically added nodes can be mapped to the view controller context.
As a workaround I could add those nodes to the view controller context only but the data represented by the nodes is read in the component controller and might be used in other views too.
