An unknown file in the root of my HD

Does anyone know what this is?
When I click on my HD it shows me the Apps folder, Library, System, User Guides and Info, Users, Audio CD and getbuild
What is getbuild?
Is it supposed to be there?
Can I delete it?
Peter
This is on a BTO iMac 24" with the big video card and 2 Gigs of ram 2.33GHZ

Hi Peter,
I've seen a few reports of people with this file, but no-one seems to have worked out what it is. I suspect it's fine, but would you be able to email a copy of it to me so I can have a look? I work in the computer security field and have some resources to pull it apart.
My email address is listed on my webpage ( my first name @ my domain ).
Thanks.

  • How can i get also the files in the root directory and how can i for testing add items of IEnumerable FTPListDetail to List string ?

    What i get is only the directories and files that in other nodes. But i have also files on the root directory and i never
    get them. This is a screenshot of my program after i got the content of my ftp. I'm using treeView to display my ftp content:
    You can see two directories from the root but no files on the root it self. And in my ftp server host i have files in the root direcory.
    This is the method i'm using to get the directory listing:
    public IEnumerable<FTPListDetail> GetDirectoryListing(string rootUri)
    var CurrentRemoteDirectory = rootUri;
    var result = new StringBuilder();
    var request = GetWebRequest(WebRequestMethods.Ftp.ListDirectoryDetails, CurrentRemoteDirectory);
    using (var response = request.GetResponse())
    using (var reader = new StreamReader(response.GetResponseStream()))
    string line = reader.ReadLine();
    while (line != null)
    result.Append(line);
    result.Append("\n");
    line = reader.ReadLine();
    if (string.IsNullOrEmpty(result.ToString()))
    return new List<FTPListDetail>();
    result.Remove(result.ToString().LastIndexOf("\n"), 1);
    var results = result.ToString().Split('\n');
    string regex =
    @"^" + //# Start of line
    @"(?<dir>[\-ld])" + //# File size
    @"(?<permission>[\-rwx]{9})" + //# Whitespace \n
    @"\s+" + //# Whitespace \n
    @"(?<filecode>\d+)" +
    @"\s+" + //# Whitespace \n
    @"(?<owner>\w+)" +
    @"\s+" + //# Whitespace \n
    @"(?<group>\w+)" +
    @"\s+" + //# Whitespace \n
    @"(?<size>\d+)" +
    @"\s+" + //# Whitespace \n
    @"(?<month>\w{3})" + //# Month (3 letters) \n
    @"\s+" + //# Whitespace \n
    @"(?<day>\d{1,2})" + //# Day (1 or 2 digits) \n
    @"\s+" + //# Whitespace \n
    @"(?<timeyear>[\d:]{4,5})" + //# Time or year \n
    @"\s+" + //# Whitespace \n
    @"(?<filename>(.*))" + //# Filename \n
    @"$"; //# End of line
    var myresult = new List<FTPListDetail>();
    foreach (var parsed in results)
    var split = new Regex(regex)
    .Match(parsed);
    var dir = split.Groups["dir"].ToString();
    var permission = split.Groups["permission"].ToString();
    var filecode = split.Groups["filecode"].ToString();
    var owner = split.Groups["owner"].ToString();
    var group = split.Groups["group"].ToString();
    var filename = split.Groups["filename"].ToString();
    var size = split.Groups["size"].Length;
    myresult.Add(new FTPListDetail()
    Dir = dir,
    Filecode = filecode,
    Group = group,
    FullPath = CurrentRemoteDirectory + "/" + filename,
    Name = filename,
    Owner = owner,
    Permission = permission,
    return myresult;
    And then this method to loop over and listing :
    private int total_dirs;
    private int searched_until_now_dirs;
    private int max_percentage;
    private TreeNode directories_real_time;
    private string SummaryText;
    private TreeNode CreateDirectoryNode(string path, string name , int recursive_levl )
    var directoryNode = new TreeNode(name);
    var directoryListing = GetDirectoryListing(path);
    var directories = directoryListing.Where(d => d.IsDirectory);
    var files = directoryListing.Where(d => !d.IsDirectory);
    total_dirs += directories.Count<FTPListDetail>();
    searched_until_now_dirs++;
    int percentage = 0;
    foreach (var dir in directories)
    directoryNode.Nodes.Add(CreateDirectoryNode(dir.FullPath, dir.Name, recursive_levl+1));
    if (recursive_levl == 1)
    TreeNode temp_tn = (TreeNode)directoryNode.Clone();
    this.BeginInvoke(new MethodInvoker( delegate
    UpdateList(temp_tn);
    percentage = (searched_until_now_dirs * 100) / total_dirs;
    if (percentage > max_percentage)
    SummaryText = String.Format("Searched dirs {0} / Total dirs {1}", searched_until_now_dirs, total_dirs);
    max_percentage = percentage;
    backgroundWorker1.ReportProgress(percentage, SummaryText);
    percentage = (searched_until_now_dirs * 100) / total_dirs;
    if (percentage > max_percentage)
    SummaryText = String.Format("Searched dirs {0} / Total dirs {1}", searched_until_now_dirs, total_dirs);
    max_percentage = percentage;
    backgroundWorker1.ReportProgress(percentage, SummaryText);
    foreach (var file in files)
    TreeNode file_tree_node = new TreeNode(file.Name);
    file_tree_node.Tag = "file" ;
    directoryNode.Nodes.Add(file_tree_node);
    numberOfFiles.Add(file.FullPath);
    return directoryNode;
    Then updating the treeView:
    DateTime last_update;
    private void UpdateList(TreeNode tn_rt)
    TimeSpan ts = DateTime.Now - last_update;
    if (ts.TotalMilliseconds > 200)
    last_update = DateTime.Now;
    treeViewMS1.BeginUpdate();
    treeViewMS1.Nodes.Clear();
    treeViewMS1.Nodes.Add(tn_rt);
    ExpandToLevel(treeViewMS1.Nodes, 1);
    treeViewMS1.EndUpdate();
    And inside a backgroundworker do work how i'm using it:
    var root = Convert.ToString(e.Argument);
    var dirNode = CreateDirectoryNode(root, "root", 1);
    e.Result = dirNode;
    And last the FTPListDetail class:
    public class FTPListDetail
    public bool IsDirectory
    get
    return !string.IsNullOrWhiteSpace(Dir) && Dir.ToLower().Equals("d");
    internal string Dir { get; set; }
    public string Permission { get; set; }
    public string Filecode { get; set; }
    public string Owner { get; set; }
    public string Group { get; set; }
    public string Name { get; set; }
    public string FullPath { get; set; }
    Now the main problem is that when i list the files and directories and display them in the treeView it dosen't get/display
    the files in the root directory. Only in the sub nodes.
    I will see the files inside hello and stats but i need also to see the files in the root directory.
    1. How can i get and list/display the files of the root directory ?
    2. For the test i tried to add to a List<string> the items in var files to see if i get the root files at all.
       This is what i tried in the CreateDirectoryNode before it i added:
    private List<string> testfiles = new List<string>();
    Then after var files i did:
    testfiles.Add(files.ToList()
    But this is wrong. I just wanted to see in testfiles what items i'm getting in var files in the end of the process.
    Both var files and directoryListing are IEnumerable<FTPListDetail> type.
    The most important is to make the number 1 i mentioned and then to do number 2.

    Risa no.
    What i mean is this. This is a screenshot of my ftp server at my host(ipage.com).
    Now this is a screenshot of my program and you can see that in my program i have only the directories hello stats test but i don't have the files in the root: htaccess.config swp txt 1.txt 2.png....all this files i don't have it on my treeView.
    What i want it to be is that on my program on the treeView i will also display the files like in my ftp server.
    I see in my program only the directories and the files in the directories but i don't see the files on the root directory/node.
    I need it to be like in my ftp server i need to see in my program the htaccess 1.txt 2.png and so on.
    So what i wrote in my main question is that in the var files i see this files of the root directory i just don't know to add and display them in my treeView(my treeView is treeViewMS1).
    I know i checked in my program in the method CreateDirectoryNode i see in the first iteration of the recursive that var files contain this root files i just dont know how to add and display them in my treeView.
    On the next iterations when it does the recursive it's adding the directories hello stats test and the files in this directories but i need it to first add the root files.

  • Can you change the permissions on a single html file in the root of a MOSS 2007 site?

    I know what the right answer is, the correct way to implement this is to create a library off the root and place the file that needs to have unique permissions into this library and either change the permissions of the library or of the individual file itself.
    Anyways, that's what we're going to do...
    However, I'm curious...  Is there a way to change the permissions of a file that was manually placed in the root of a MOSS 2007 site?  I've tried through the GUI and through Designer, and also searched the WWW with no luck.  Is this even doable?
    We don't want to change the permissions on the entire site, just that one file.
    Thanks,
    -Richard.

    Hi Richard,
    I thinks the file on the root directory of a SharePoint site is unable to be set with a unique permission, SharePoint securable object are web, list/library, list/library iteml, as what you're going to do, the workaround is
    to put the file in a libary and grant the unique permission.

  • Accessing files outside the root of the site.

    Hi All
    On my web host space I have access to a directory outside the
    root of the
    website i.e. "private"
    I want to store files there for download after users have
    purchased them.
    I want to put them here to stop people ripping the files off
    by guessing the
    link or useing a website copier.
    What I plan to do is send a link to the user via email, this
    link will then
    go to a download page which records the user has accessed the
    file and then
    have the page automatically download the file.
    I can do this no problem if I have the files in a directory
    under the root
    of the site but how can I link to the files outside the root?
    TIA

  • Accessing the text/property file inside the root context

    Hi
              I want to access the property file lying inside the root context folder
              via plain java classes using IO.
              Could you please help me out.

    Hi
    Using this.getClass().getClassLoader().getResource("config_settings");
    In order to load the properties file, uses the classpath search mechnism.
    Basically it means that java will look for your file in the classpath.
    The defualt class path of a web server is usualy the following:
    ContextName/Web-Inf/Classes;ContextName/Web-Inf/lib
    This is why it is working for you when you put your properties file under ContextName/Web-Inf/Classes, but it doesnt work when it is under ContextName/*, as this is not a part of the classpath search.
    You have 3 options:
    1.Put you properties file under the sever defulat classpath
    (ContextName/Web-Inf/Classes;ContextName/Web-Inf/lib,if it's under lib, the file has to be inside a jar file)
    2.Add ContextName/* to your server classpath ( in tomcat->setClasspath.bat file )
    3.Instead of using "this.getClass().getClassLoader().getResource("config_settings"
    read your file directly using the java.io.* library and give it the full path to the file,
    you can store the full path in web.xml file, or using getServletContext().getRealPath("") to locate the context path and read the file from there( but then you are using the Servlet API )
    Hope it helps
    all the best

  • Viewing only files at the root level in a folder?

    When I click on a folder, I see all images in the folder including all the images in the subfolders. If I still have a few loose images in the root level of the folder (outside the subfolders), how do I view only the loose images?

    Funny, John. LR's pretty intuitive, but it continues in the Photoshop tradition of a thousand things up its sleeves, if only you know where to look. I guess I was feeling helpful last night. I'll work on suppressing that :)

  • Appending content to an XML file in the Root tag using FileAdapter

    Hi Friends..!!
    I have got a requirement like this. There will be an XML file with List of Employees like following...
    <Employees>
    <Emp>
    <SNo>111</Sno>
    <Fname>Mahesh<Fname>
    <Lname>Babu</Lname>
    </Emp>
    <Emp>
    <SNo>222</Sno>
    <Fname>----<Fname>
    <Lname>-----</Lname>
    </Emp>
    <Emp>
    <SNo>----</Sno>
    <Fname>----<Fname>
    <Lname>----</Lname>
    </Emp>
    </Employees>
    .. So What i have to do is Appending the given Employees info to the existed XML file using File Adapter. But When i m trying to figure it out.. the given details are appended at the end of the previous content.. but i want to see all the Emp tags(the newly appended emp list also) in the existed <Employees> tag only..
    (i m also facing namespace issues here)
    Can u plz provide solution for this problem..?
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards-
    Nlion7

    Hi Nilon7,
    the given details are appended at the end of the previous contentThat will be the behaviour if you are just using file write with append...
    You will need to expand your solution into three steps, firstly a file adapter sync read to retrieve the current contents of the file, then a xslt transformation to "merge" the current data with the new data and finally a file adapter write with the merged content...
    Cheers,
    Vlad

  • How do I get iWeb to publish just the files to my root directory

    Hey all, when I publish my site to my hosting server via iWeb it's just copying the entire folder into my root directory instead of copying the files to the root directory. This is causing my site url to look like this: www.mysite.com/myfolder/ how do I get iWeb to publich the files in the "myfolder" to my server instead of the entire folder?

    I needed to do this while keeping ftp publishing inside iWeb, and so I developed a sneaky solution. I just figured this out, so there may be some extra steps in here. Here goes:
    Find the iWeb application on the computer you are publishing from.
    Control-Click on the application and choose "Show Package Contents".
    In the window that appears, open the folder "Contents".
    Control-Click on the folder "Resources" and choose "Get Info".
    In the window that appears, open the "Sharing and Permissions" drop-down.
    Click the lock in the lower-right corner and enter your password.
    Where it says "Read Only" across from "Everyone", click the arrows and choose "Read and Write".
    Close the "Info" window and open the "Resources" folder.
    Find the "defaultPublishConfiguration.plist" file and change the permissions (repeat steps 4-7 but with "defaultPublishConfiguration.plist" instead of the "Resources" folder).
    Open the "defaultPublishConfiguration.plist" file in TextEdit.
    Find the line "<string>/Web/Sites</string>".
    Change it to "<string>/Web</string>".
    Save and close the text file.
    Restart iWeb.
    Go to your publishing settings and enter the information for your server. Point the "Directory/Path" to the folder above your server's root web folder.
    Set "Site Name" to the name of your server's web folder.
    Make sure that none of the files in your server's web folder have the same name as those iWeb would upload.
    Select File>Publish Entire Site.
    It should now publish your site to "http://www.yourdomain.org/Home.html".
    Hope it works!

  • File Error: Unknown File, Cannot Save

    I hope this is only a matter of healthy file management, but I'm quite confused and hope someone can clear this up into something of a simple science. On the otherhand, could this be a LIMITATION of FCP?
    -Have been editing a sequence from a larger film on a second computer. That sequence has been worked on over several days and saved (of course). However, upon saving last night, was an error message: "File error: Unknown File" and the project could not be saved.
    -This is quite possibly due to the fact that both the media and project files have been copied over the network to the first computer where the master project is being assembled.
    -HOWEVER, no media files claimed to be offline, everything was editable AND the FILE WOULD NOT SAVE through multiple attempts
    -ALSO, the other open project WOULD NOT SAVE either (its files where never moved or otherwise tampered with. It was a small and entirely local operation).
    -SAVING was finally accomplished ONLY by saving the project file to the LOCAL HD rather than the EXTERNAL DRIVE where the MEDIA and PROJECT FILES originated and had been previously saved to.
    -All other attempts to save to the EXTERNAL were met with the message "FILE ERROR: UNKNOWN FILE" This compromised saving process resulted in the loss of all work, edits, etc. on the LESSER and EXCLUSIVELY local project.
    -AFTER saving to the LOCAL HD, the project COULD BE once again saved to the EXTERNAL HD. This flow seemed very strange to me.
    -Has anyone else encountered this problem, and what can I correct in my processes to avoid this.
    --*Also, the First computer encountered the same problems at the same time, after both EDITING & SAVING had taken place since the last FILE COPYING. Again, work was lost.
    Thanks for any help you can offer.

  • How can I transfer the root account on my computer to a regular account?

    Not sure if this in the correct category, but anyway...
    Back in October 2010, I installed a Java update or something on my regular account, and it broke the account for some reason. I had no other account to use except for the root user that I enabled previously (just for testing). I logged into it and used it as my regular account, checking every so often to check if my regular account fixed itself. Sadly, it didn’t (at the time), but after a while, I upgraded my computer to Snow Leopard (I was previously running Leopard), I found that my old account finally fixed itself. Immediately, I attempted to copy over all of my files from the root account to the other account. I went onto the account, and it seemed to be a fresh account, so I assumed that it didn’t register the account files as legitimate and I guess it made it into a new account. I gave up after fiddling with it for a bit. To this day, I’m still using the root user as my main account, but a lot of things are broken (like Spotlight, Mail search, some other things) and I’d just like to know a clean way I could easily transfer all of the stuff from the root user to my old account (including all of the Library files and such). Please don’t say “You shouldn’t have used the root user because it’s really dangerous,” or whatever. I’ve been responsible with it for almost 2 years and I don’t think I could’ve done anything else. Thanks for any help.

    Its doable with Terminal. Log into your new userfolder in the /Users/ folder and open Terminal and say:
    whoami
    This is the owner of your newly transferred files.
    Log into your root account and Launch Terminal. You will use the scp (secure copy) command to copy your files over to the new userfolder, replacing PathToNewFolder with the path to your new folder:
    cd /PathToNewFolder
    scp -r /private/var/root/* .
    The copied files will all have ownership of root account, so you will then set ownership of all the files to your new username that you remember from above, replacing "NewName" with your new username:
    $USER=NewName
    find . -exec chown $USER:admin {} \;
    find . -type d -exec chmod 750 {} \;
    find . -type f -exec chmod 640 {} \;
    chmod 755 Library
    find Library -type d -exec chmod 755 {} \;
    find Library -type f -exec chmod 600 {} \;
    chmod 755 Library/Autosave\ Information Library/Application\ Support Library/Keychains Library/Application\ Support/Terminal
    chmod 644 Library/Preferences/QuickTime\ Preferences Library/Keychains/* Library/Favorites/* Library/Caches/com.apple.preferencepanes.cache Library/Caches/com.apple.preferencepanes.searchindexcache
    chmod 755 Public ~/Sites
    chmod 733 Public/Drop\ Box
    find Sites -type d -exec chmod 755 {} \;
    find Sites -type f -exec chmod 644 {} \;
    Then you can login to your new account with all your stuff hopefully intact. If anything doesn't work respond here and it can be fixed.

    Before the upgrade,files in the root folder in Bridge were listed and  immediately available to DW on Local and Remote.   (Mac OS X10.5.8-2.2GHzIntel/mem 2GB 667 MHz)
    I'm new at this stuff and have combed the Help-Knowledge Bases-DW and Bridge and haven't found anything remotely helpful or even similar? .Must be something obvious everyone knows  to do.

    Problem went away this morning!
    I tried this step again (a third time) after starting up my computer:
    Still trying to get my composite in "B" recognized by LR, I first deleted the composite from "B" using explorer, then went into LR and moved the file from "A" (where LR recognized it), into "B".
    This time it worked, the file moved successfully and appears normally in LR.
    Don't know if the re-boot helped, or I was making some silly mistake that a good night's sleep cured.  If the later, I apologize to all who scratched their heads over this one.
    Thanks,
    Jerry

  • ODBC for Rdb files dissolve at root directory now

    Late Dec99, I noticed a change in behavior of Oracle Rdb driver installation files.
    For a couple years, on a Windows 95 PC, when I run the rdbwin95.exe installation program via Start > Run > and specify the -d qualifier, the installation program would first create a Win95 folder inside the current folder location and then create additional folders inside that new folder. Now, it creates the Win95 folder at the root directory, e.g., c:\ level, instead of inside the temporary installation folder.
    Likewise, when I run an older version, rdb32.exe for example, it also dissolves into multiple files, all at the root level, instead of the temporary folder where I had placed it. Rdb16.exe behaves the same way.
    Processing these 2 files can get ugly because it can exceed the maximum number of objects permitted on the c: drive, making new folder creation impossible until the install files are deleted.
    I wonder if there might be some incompatability between the zip program used to create the install files and my current PC software. Each of the PCs I've tried at my location behave the same way, but some PCs at other locations do not, while some do. I just haven't been able to figure out the common denominator.
    The only reason I call this a problem is that I have some s/w installation instructions that walk users thru example screens and it looks like I may need to cover both possible behaviors in my examples.
    Has anyone else seen this problem? Or, have any explanation for it?
    Thanks

  • Do I need to add to add a new jar file to the WLS ?

    I am new to java development and would like to know if I were to use a new jar
    file developed by another party in my EJB development, do I need to have this
    jar file available in WLS when I deploy the EJB to it ?
    I think this is not required but just need a confirmation.
    Thanks

    Hi,
    I take this to mean you are using java classes from the 3rd party jar in your
    EJB bean class. If that is the case, then you need the jar file in your classpath
    when you compile the EJB classes.
    Also, you will need the jar file to be in the classpath when the EJB is used.
    You can do this in a variety of ways. If the 3rd party jar is going to change
    infrequently, then you can put it in the system CLASSPATH in your startWebLogic
    script. Or you can add all the classes of the jar file in the root level of the
    EJB (Yuck!!).
    Perhaps the best answer is to create an enterprise application (EAR). Then you
    place the jar file in the root level of the EAR. In the META-INF\MANIFEST.MF
    file of the EJB place
    Class-Path: filename.jar
    Then when you build the .ear file use:
    jar -cvfm ..\commuterLog.jar META-INF\MANIFEST.MF *
    hope this helps,
    pat

    CF files in the app. have not cfm or cfc extension, of course.
    How can I prevent the app. to save any cookie files on

    Thanks,

    That cookie is used to track sessions. You can disable the
    cookie in the <cfapplication> tag in your Application.cfm
    file at the root of your website.

    If you need sessions, but don't want to use cookies, you will
    need to manually append #URLToken# to the end of all URLs on your
    site (form posts, <a href> links, javascript redirects,
