Analysis Using a Network Memory Object

When loading Spatial Network into memory where is the actual memory occupied? On client or server side?
PS, example for loading network into memory:
PL/SQL:
sdo_net_mem.network_manager.read_network(net_mem=>'XXX', allow_updates=>'TRUE');
Java:
NetworkMetadata metadata = LODNetworkManager.getNetworkMetadata(sql.getConnection(), 'XXX', 'XXX');
NetworkIO networkIO = LODNetworkManager.getNetworkIO(sql.getConnection(), 'XXX', 'XXX', metadata);

I found this thread and I thought I may add my experiments :
I've been playing with networks in 10g and ended up with these points :
I programmed some PL-SQL functions based on the SDO_NET_MEM api (I mostly use shortest_path and TSP functions). Everything was fine until I decided to "industrialize" the process :
I was originally working on small networks (around 30000 edges) and got pretty good results.Then, I started loading bigger networks (500 000 edges). At this point, memory was still OK but I encountered some really weird performance drops : Using the oracle network editor which is external to the database, shortest paths computations were fast, but inside my pl-sql code, these functions were taking much more time to complete.
I found out that the javavm inside Oracle was not optimized for calculation compared to the Sun runtime and that could explain my performance problems.
The following thread gives more details about this :
Spatial : big performance differences between server and client java calls
Anyway, I decided to test my procedure with really big networks (9 million edges, 7 million nodes). I never could load the network -> I got the outofmemory error.
My server is running under dedicated mode and I have 4gb of ram.
I tried several configurations :
I first set JAVA_POOL to 1.8 GB inside the SGA, in vain.
Then, I started to understand it had something to do with PGA so I reduced SGA and increased PGA up to 2BG. It failed.
I'm now completely stucked :
- JVM does not give as good results as on the client side :(
- Big networks don't load inside database memory.
My questions are (hopefully one could answer) :
Are there any means to estimate the size of a "loaded in memory" network, given the number of edges and nodes and then configure oracle memory areas ?
Why is the oracle javavm so bad, can we tune it ?
Should I definitively envisage to re-develop my program as a java client and simply use Oracle to store my data ?
Thank you.
Benjamin.

  • Where is the network memory object?

    Hello,
    I have a performance problem.
    I wrote a logical network in the spatial database with around 120.000 links and 100.000 nodes.
    I can read the network through SDO_NET_MEM PL/SQL but I cant read it through the Java API. I get an OutofMemory error.
    I tried to increase the JVM size through the IDE I'm using (eclipse) but it had no effect at all.
    I read that the Java API and the SDO_NET_MEM package use the network memory object which is a cache in a virtual memory. How can I adjust the size of this cache?
    Cheers,
    Elif

    see post :
    Re: Network analysis performance issue
    you have to manage your java memory to run your java client and there is also a java memory space in the oracle server that you can increase with SDO_TOPO_MAP.SET_MAX_MEMORY_SIZE(value)
    value is in bytes (not in kb like the documentation says!!!)

  • Question on use of shared memory objects during CIF executions

    We have a CIF that runs in background via program RIMODACT that is invoked from our external job scheduler.  (The schedulere kicks off a job - call it CIFJOB - and the first step of this job executes RIMODACT.)
    During the execution of RIMODACT, we call a BAdI (an implementation of SMOD_APOCF005.)
    In the method of this BAdI, we load some data into a shared memory object each time the BAdI is called. (We create this shared memory object the first time the BAdI is called.)
    After program RIMODACT finishes, the second step of CIFJOB calls a wrapper program that calls two APO BAPI's.
    Will the shared memory object be available to these BAPIs?
    Reason I'm asking is that the BAPIs execute on the APO app server, but the shared memory object was created in a CIF exit called from a program executing on the ECC server (RIMODACT).
    Edited by: David Halitsky on Feb 20, 2008 3:56 PM

    I know what you're saying, but it doesn't apply in this case (I think.)
    The critical point is that we can tie the batch job to one ECC app server.  In the first step of this job (the one that executes RIMODACT to do the CIF), we build the itab as an attribute of the "root" shared memory object class.
    In the second step of the batch job, we attach to the root class we built in the first step, extract some data from it, and pass these data to a BAPI that we call on the APO server.  (This is what I meant by a "true" RFC - the APO BAPI on the APO server is being called from a program on the ECC server.)
    So the APO BAPI never needs access to the ECC shared memory object - it gets its data passed in from a program on the ECC server that does have access to the shared memory object.
    Restated this way, is the solution correct ???

  • Short Dump TSV_TNEW_PAGE_ALLOC_FAILED while using shared memory objects

    Hi Gurus,
    We are using shared memory objects to stor some data which we will be reading later. I have implemented the interfce IF_SHM_BUILD_INSTANCE in root class and using its method BUILD for automatic area structuring.
    Today our developments moved from dev system to quality system, and while writing the data into the shared memory using the methods ATTACH_FOR_WRITE and DETACH_COMMIT in one report. We started getting the run time error TSV_TNEW_PAGE_ALLOC_FAILED.This is raised when the method DETACH_COMMIT is called to commit the changes in the shared memory.
    Everyhting works fine before DETACH_COMMIT. I know that it is happening since the program ran out of extended memory, but I am not sure why it is happening at DETACH_COMMIT call. If excessive memory is being used in the program, this run time error should have been raised while calling the ATTACH_FOR_WRITE method or while filling the root class attributes. I am not sure why it is happening at DETACH_COMMIT method.
    Many Thanks in advance.
    Thanks,
    Raveesh

    Hi raveesh,
    as Naimesh suggested: Probably system parameter for shared memory area is too small. Compare the system parameters in devel and QA, check what other shared memory areas are used.
    Regarding your question, why it does not fail at ATTACH_FOR_WRITE but then on DETACH_COMMIT:
    Probably ATTACH_FOR_WRITE will set an exclusive write lock on the shared memory data, then write to some kind of 'rollback' memory and DETACH_COMMIT will really put the data into shared memory area and release the lock. The 'rollback' memory is in the LUW's work memory which is much bigger as the usual shared memory size.
    This is my assumption - don't know who can verify or reject it.
    Regards,
    Clemens

  • Problem on loading DAT file when using 3G network modem

    Hello,
    I'm having some strange problem when I'm trying to load my game on the part where DAT file with Map Object is read, using 3G Network Modem. This issue started when I migrated my applet from one host to another. Everything loads well, until the user authentication. On user authenticatiom I'm recieving map name which I should load and show the user on it. I'm recieving the message where map name is mentioned, but after, when the process of loading map begins(when I need to read DAT file which is only 15KB) application blocks(browser and JVM also block).
    I thought it could be because of slow network communication, but it's not the reason, since I have tested(using Bandwidth limiter software) with 5 KBs/Second and it loads well and application is running well.
    Any clue why this can happen? If code is needed I'll post some pieces related to the process of map creation.

    Then we select the icon Analysis for Olap, select an Olap connection and receive error in
    message box titled 'Analysis Edition for Olap'
    Login Failed. Invalid, User Name or Password
    It seems to be problem with SSO token back to the SAP portal.
    We have SSO configured from BI4 SP04.0.1 to BW 7.3.1. SP04 and can login to the launch pad using SAP authentication with the same account.
    The security on the OLAP connection is everyone - view.
    If we change the Olap connection authentication to pre-defined from SSO, Olap Analysis works correctly from the portal iview, but of course the permissions are not acceptable. Further, we set SSO to false  from the global.properties file and restarted tomcat.  We can then start the launchpad from the Iview in the portal and are prompted for manual logon, use SAP authentication and Olap for Analysis runs correctly as the same user we tried previously.
    However, our requirement is to use SAP authentication and SSO from the portal to BI4 and not logon on manually.
    I have entered an OSS message for this issue and making little progress there.  If you have made this work or have some ideas you can share, I would be very grateful!
    Lee Lewis

    Just want to update with more information-
    Again, from the enterprise portal through the ivew - BO Document List template,
    Connects through to BI Launch Pad without having to login-using the BW ABAP credentials
    Then we try to open a webi document with an olap connection that has sso authentication instead of pre-defined user, we do not get the same user login failed message, the page is just blank
    But if I login directly to bi launch pas with the same SAP authentication that was used with the enterprise portal, and bring up the same webi document, the report is displayed as expected.
    Anybody successfully use the BO document list ivew using Olap connections with SSO and not just a pre-defined user?

  • Using a polymorphic view object with binding

    Hi,
    I'm hoping there's something simple I'm missing when trying to setup up the bindings for a ADF/struts page using a polymorphic view object.
    I'm using Entity and VO polymorphism to create a Question which has different types - boolean, multi-choice, likert, etc. I have the various question types created as sub type entity and view objects and added to the app module - when added to the app module the question types are subtypes of QuestionView so they don't actually appear in the Data Controls palette. This setup is like that used in Steve Muench's examples (blog at http://radio.weblogs.com/0118231/stories/2003/02/06/constructingTheDesiredEntityInAPolymorphicViewObject.html and the related undocumented one)
    My question is, how do I get to the data and have jdev create the necessary bindings for the extra attributes the subtype questions have? Since they don't appear as available data controls I can't create a binding iterator or anything for them - short of adding them as spearate view objects (which destroys the whole point of using polymorphism in this case) is there a way to do this?
    Really, the only reason I want to use the polymorphism is so I can have different types of entity validation depending on the type. Should I just simplify this to be one entity object with one VO and put all the validation into "if else's" based on a discriminator?
    Assistance appreciated...
    - Nathaniel

    How else are you planning to associate a JUTableBinding to the 'common' iterator containing all four types of rows and then selectively display them? Perhaps you'd need a custom model over the JUTabelModel that'd filter the rows out.
    I'm not sure if all that trouble is worth it given that your datasets (as far as mentioned in this post) are not large. If these tables/data has to be refreshed/executed a number of times, then you may see the overhead of four queries otherwise it should be fine as database is always faster in filtering rows than doing that in memory.

  • Enhanced protected mode and global named shared memory object

    Good morning.
    I've written a bho that do data exchange with a system service. The service creates named shared memory objects in the Global namespace. Outside appcontainer IE 11 sandboxed everything works fine lowering objects integrity level. Inside the sandboxed environment

    Ciao Ritchie, thanks for coming here. ;-)
    I call (only) OpenFileMapping and MapViewOfFile inside my code and i get access denied at the first try. As i stated before this happens when IE11 is working inside EPM 32/64bit mode, outside EPM it works as it should. However i decided to take a different
    approach to do IPC, because, you want it or not, the service is up and running as SYSTEM... Still i'm really interested about two points:
    1) can i use global kernel objects in EPM mode?
    2) if one is "yes, you can": what's wrong with my code? The security descriptor? Something else?
    Thanks all.

  • Setting the shared templates location by Deploying Office 365 Midsized Business "using a network share" from a on-premise location

    I found the question "Deploy Office 365 pro plus using a network share or from a on-premise locaiton" the most useful of the resources
    on MS yet - but I am having difficulties getting the files to download for a local deployment.
    The root of the issue, that I cannot find anywhere, is how do I set the shared templates location for users in the organization.  First I thought a GPO, but I cannot find that setting in the GPO in MS.
    Then I thought modifying the REG- but it is in a binary key which could include other information I may not want modified(Or does it matter?)
    Then I looked for ways to download the deployment but launching from an elevated prompt as IT (Domain level) returns a useless error to paraphrase- 'sorry MSOffice didn't install- do you have enough disk space'.
    I have downloaded the GPO objects, but not installed them, likely I will need those later though.
    Just want to path all the users to a central repository of office/excel/access/outlook templates in addition to their local templates. Concise help in steps or sites that have solved the issue are Greatly appreciated : )

    Hi,
    you can use the GPO ADMX templates to configure the "Workgroup templates path".
    This actually configures a registry setting named: "sharedtemplates".
    The registry value/type/data is:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\office\15.0\common\general
    Name: sharedtemplates
    Type: REG_EXPAND_SZ (Expandable String Value)
    Data: <UNC path to folder>
    From the GPO reference workbook/sheet, for Office:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/4976.selected-content-relating-to-group-policy-administrative-templates-adm-and-admx.aspx
    Filename: office15.admx
    Scope: User
    Path: Microsoft Office 2013\Shared paths
    Policy Setting Name: Workgroup templates path
    Supported on: At least Windows Server 2008 R2 or Windows 7
    Category: Shared paths
    Explain Text: Specifies the location of workgroup templates.
    Registry Key: HKCU\software\policies\microsoft\office\15.0\common\general!sharedtemplates
    Note: it is supported to populate this setting, with a UNC path, but not with a web path.
    e.g.: \\server01\shared\templates <this is valid>
    e.g.: http://server01/shared/templates <this is not valid>
    This constraint (for web URIs) can be difficult to work around. If you are using SharePoint, and think WebDAV might work, it doesn't seem to work for us :(
    Of course, if you have SharePoint, there are much better ways to handle document templates, but, our users are familiar with this File -> New -> from template type of method...
    It can also be set manually by a user:
    Don

  • Network Globe Objects

    Hi-
    What exactly are the nature of the objects (folders) created in the Network Globe object? I have a couple stale objects that I would like to get rid of. I think one of them was pointing at a Windows workgroup (called Workgroup) that one Windows machine was configured under. That machine is now gone, but the folder remains. Another one is Mshome (presumably XP systems configured in their default workgroup name "mshome")...this folder contains a couple active systems and one that I know is no longer there.
    The main one is the workgroup folder. Changing to root in terminal and trying to whack it from /network doesn't work either.
    Is this some sort of a automounted point somewhere hidden in a config file or what?
    Thanks for any help!!

    Hi Jaekay:
    I suspect they're part of the basic user template, and have those names since Workgroup and Mshome are the default names used by Microsoft. There may be a configuration file somewhere (*.conf) that controls this, but since this is created by the system (even the root user can't delete the folders), it would be unwise to change it even if you could.

  • OpenCL: best way to resize memory objects

    I'm a beginner in OpenCL and I have a question about memory management (like 99.99% of noob questions about OpenCL, I guess...). I enqueue the kernel for execution inside a loop in the host code; at each iteration the size of the buffers used for memory objects passed as kernel arguments is different. Currently, I do something like this using the C++ wrapper API (which BTW I find much more easy to use than the C interface, that nevertheless seems to be the most used interface yet):
    // Set platform, kernel, queue etc.
    for (int i = 0; i < nIterations; i++){
    // Set buffer sizes and fill them
    // OpenCL section
    cl::Buffer clBuffer1 = cl::Buffer(context, CL_MEM_READ_ONLY | CL_MEM_USE_HOST_PTR, bufferSize1*typeSize1, (void *) &(buffer1[0]));
    cl::Buffer clBuffer2 = cl::Buffer(context, CL_MEM_USE_HOST_PTR, bufferSize2*typeSize2, (void *) &(buffer2[0]));
    cl::Buffer clBuffer3 = cl::Buffer(context, CL_MEM_WRITE_ONLY | CL_MEM_USE_HOST_PTR, bufferSize3*typeSize3, (void *) &(buffer3[0]));
    kernel.setArg(0, clBuffer1);
    kernel.setArg(0, clBuffer2);
    kernel.setArg(0, clBuffer3);
    queue.enqueueNDRangeKernel(kernel, cl::NullRange, cl::NDRange(someValueForRange), cl::NullRange);
    queue.enqueueMapBuffer(clBuffer2, CL_FALSE, CL_MAP_READ, 0, bufferSize2*typeSize2);
    queue.enqueueMapBuffer(clBuffer3, CL_TRUE, CL_MAP_READ, 0, bufferSize3*typeSize3);
    // Do something with retrieved data
    I'm sure there are thousands of less-than-sub optimal memory access patterns in the code above, but for the moment I'm facing this issue: is there a way to modify the size of the cl::Buffer objects without having to reinstantiate them at each iteration of the loop? I fear that this constinuous create/destroy of cl::Buffer objects causes a full reallocation of memory on the CL device at each loop iteration, potentially degrading the overall performance. I think that also a size modification (a' la STL, to be more clear) could result in some memory reallocation, but hopefully less frequently. Or is it better to statically define oversized buffers outside the loop and play with the size arguments of enqueueMapBuffer inside the loop to transfer only the needed range of data to the GPU at each iteration of the loop?
    Sorry for the possibly confusing question but as I said I'm a noob with OpenCL and this particular kind of problem seems to be not very common. Thanks.

    Hi
    First a vector drawing will not work on the web unless you convert it too svg, (only supported on 40% of browsers IE requires a plug-in) or use it within flash. You will have to convert it to gif / jpeg / png. If you convert to png this will retain the transparency for you.
    As to the size, then resizing should be done in illustrator or similar then exported into photoshop or fireworks, and from these use your export for web option, and optimize the image.

  • VI using too much memory

    Hi all,
    I am trying to write a code to peak pick in 2 dimensions on a rather large data file (approximately 1000x72000 points). The results from this should be integer values where each peak has been reduced to its maximum point for further statistical analysis (see attached code). The problem is when this code is run, the VI very quickly eats through all of the available memory and crashes. I am running a system with 3 processors and 4 gigs of ram, and the program has crashed every time after using about 3.5 gigs, so I need to find a way to reduce the memory usage of this VI. Attached is my VI and an example data file. Thanks.

    First, reading 1000x72000x8bytes= ~600MB for a single copy in memory is pushing it. Then you have additional data copies in both graphs.
    All your values seem to be small integers, so a 2D array of U8 would work equally well using 8x less memory.
    Then you are sending these massive arrays to two intensity graphs. The number of pixels in your graph is a tiny fraction of the array, thus you need to reduce the data for display. Graphing 72000 columns on a display less than 1000 pixels wide is ridiculous.
