Another sql query

Hi,
I have a manager table whose data is as below.
create table manager (dept_id number, manager_id number,subject varchar2(20),salary number(4,2));
insert into manager values(10, 1, subject_1,5);
insert into manager values(10, 2, subject_1,5);
insert into manager values(10, 3, subject_1,5);
insert into manager values(10, 4, subject_2,4.5);
insert into manager values(10, 5, subject_2,4.5);
insert into manager values(10, 6, subject_2,6);
insert into manager values(10, 7, subject_3,10);
insert into manager values(10, 8, subject_3,5);
insert into manager values(10, 9, 'ALL',10);
Now my requirement is to sum up the salaries on the basis of subject. If subject_1 is present then sum up salaries where subject_1 and ÁLL' and ignore other subject salaries.
If subject_2 is present then sum up salaries of all subject_2 and 'ÁLL' and ignore others.
Note that the sum of salary for each subject will always be equal that's why we are ignoring the rest if any one is present.
So the output should be like this:
dept_id salary
10 25
Thanks in advance

Something a little more flexible perhaps...

    ThanksYou should craete PL/SQL code with cursor which will accept a parameter and call that cursor inside the first one
    But if the first sql returns only one row, you can do it with simple sql code
    select * from (select distinct table_name as TAB1 from all_tab_cols where table_name like 'T_%' and column_name like '%XYZ')- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

  • Another sql query--trigger

    I want to write a trigger, usig DUAL table if possible, which shows me the name of a user who make changes in a table.
    User names are stored in "users" table (Smith, Jhon,etc,etc) and the trigger that I created looks like this:
    CREATE OR REPLACE TRIGGER ITEMS_after_update
    AFTER UPDATE
    ON ITEMS
    FOR EACH ROW
    DECLARE
    v_username varchar2(50);
    BEGIN
    -- Find username of person performing UPDATE into table
    -- SELECT useFNAME INTO v_username
    -- FROM USERS;
    -- Insert record into audit table
    INSERT INTO new_ITEMS
    ( ITEMKEY_new,
    ITEMKEY,
    ITEMNAME_new,
    ITEMNAME,SORTGROUP,
    SORTGROUP_new )
    VALUES
    ( :new.ITEMKEY,
    :OLD.ITEMKEY,
    :NEW.ITEMNAME,
    :OLD.ITEMNAME,
    :new.SORTGROUP,
    :OLD.SORTGROUP );
    END;
    If I'm using SELECT user INTO v_username FROM dual;
    instead of SELECT useFNAME INTO v_username FROM USERS I get the "company1" name and doesn't help.I would like to receive Jhon or Smith....
    Can anyone help me with this trigger ?
    Regards
    Robert B

    Where exactly are you trying to derive the user from? Based on your query
    "SELECT useFNAME INTO v_username FROM USERS;" that would bring back all rows from that table, which is not legitimate when using an INTO clause.
    Maybe you are wanting to do something like this?
    SELECT useFNAME INTO v_username
    from USERS where USERNAME = USER
    where USER is an Oracle function returning the user.

  • How to modify a SQL query?

    Hi all,
    I am using Crystal Reports version 10. I have a number of reports that have been written by a software vendor wherby the name of the database they were connected to when the report was written is coded into the FROM command of the reports SQL query, eg "GCUK_2" in the of the SQL snippet below.
    SELECT "Clients"."NAME", "Quotes"."QUOTE_ID", "Quote_Items"."UPRICE", "Quote_Items"."QTY", "Quote_Items"."UOM", "Quote_Items"."QUSAGE_ID", "Report_Control"."QUSAGEID", "Quote_Items"."STANDARD", "Quote_Items"."SECT_FLAG", "Quote_Items"."DISPORDER", "Quotes"."DESCRIPT", "Report_Control"."SECT_NAME", "Quote_Items"."CNT", "Category_and_Type"."TYPEDESC", "Quote_Items"."DESCRIPT", "Report_Control"."DISP_SORT"
    FROM   ((("GCUK_2"."schedwin"."QTE_CTRL" "Report_Control" INNER JOIN "GCUK_2"."schedwin"."QUSAGE" "Quote_Items" ON "Report_Control"."QUSAGEID"="Quote_Items"."QUSAGE_ID") LEFT OUTER JOIN "GCUK_2"."schedwin"."QUOTES" "Quotes" ON
    I have tried setting the Datasource Location, but it doesn't change the query at all. I have read on another forum that you can generate another SQL query using the Database Expert, Current Connections, then right click the Add Command for the database you want to create a SQL command. Is this the only way to update the database names in the query?
    Thanks,
    Scott.

    Hi Sourashree,
    Thanks for that. All the reports were created by the vendor using tables as opposed to the command object. I would have thought that changing the datasource would automatically cause Crystal to rewrite the SQL query syntax, but this doesn't appear to be the case.
    Yes, I've noticed that modifying the record selection will change the sql query. The only way I can see to change the database name in the query is to change to the desired databsource and then remove and re-insert the tables, which will then update the query with the correct name. However, this seems to be a convoluted way of changing the db name in the query.

  • SAP Crystal Report (2008) through SQL Query parameters

    Hi,
    I Created a report in Crystal report (2008) based on Sql Query. I created parameters in SQL query prompt only (all single valued).
    Based on this I need to show the data in detail section.
    For Graph, I used another SQL query, and added one subreport to the Main report header section. Since this subreport is also using the SQL query prompts for taking parameters.
    Since both the reports are using same set of parameters. I mapped Main report parameters to sub-report parameters.
    So Now structure is like,
    In a report there is one subreport.
    Main report ....SQL query generates parameter prompt..same parameters is passed to subreport.
    In subreport there are sql generated prompts. and we mapped that prompts to main report parameter prompts.
    Now it is running fine from crystal report, but not from CMC. It is not showing the graph.
    Made Two Experiment:
    1. To check subreport is running or not , Mannualy put my name in sub report--working fine.(CMC)
    2. To check the parameters are correctly mapped--printed the value in subreport--Showing all the parameters value from CMC
    but it is not running the SQL query of that sub report.
    Any suggestion ?? Or is there anyoption to check?? Or a CMC setting.
    Please suggest and respond..
    Thank you in advance.!!

    Hi Rajeev,
    This is Crystal reports development community, you said the report is working fine in Crystal. it is problem in CMC. So the issue is at BI Server.
    So i think you need to create the thread in the below community.

  • Spatial Query that uses Result of another Spatial Query

    Hi all,
    I am using the SDO_DIFFERENCE Operator to return the difference between a query window and an intersection geometry. This is fine and i get an object back that is cast to a STRUCT using the SDO API. I want then to use this (returned)object in another SQL query that uses the SDO_RELATE Operator. The problem is that i dont know what type it needs to be so that the SDO_RELATE operator will accept it as a valid argument. Has anyone done this before or seen anything like it? Any help will be very much appreciated.
    Keith.

    Thanks for your help,
    I have done the following steps, but i still dont understand why it doesnt work.
    CREATE TABLE val_results (sdo_rowid ROWID, result varchar2(1000));
    CALL SDO_GEOM.VALIDATE_LAYER_WITH_CONTEXT('SHAPES','SHAPE','VAL_RESULTS');
    SELECT * FROM val_results;
    1 null     Rows Processed <3>
    2 AAARDDAAEAAAAA+AAA     13348 [Element <1>] [Ring <1>]
    3 AAARDDAAEAAAAA+AAB     13367 [Element <1>] [Ring <1>]
    SELECT shape_id,SDO_GEOM.VALIDATE_GEOMETRY_WITH_CONTEXT(c.shape, 0.005)
    FROM shapes c;
    3     TRUE
    2     13348 [Element <1>] [Ring <1>]
    1     13367 [Element <1>] [Ring <1>]
    If my rectangle and polygon is still invalid, can someone tell me why they are invalid. And how can i make them valid?
    Thanks.
    UPDATE:
    I have solved Polygon issue.
    In Spatial Developer's Guide it says:
    Simple polygon whose vertices are connected by straight line
    segments. You must specify a point for each vertex; and the
    last point specified must be exactly the same point as the first
    (within the tolerance value), to close the polygon. For
    example, for a 4-sided polygon, specify 5 points, with point 5
    the same as point 1.
    I have added a point to polygon which is same as first point. Now, it can find the point in polygon.
    INSERT INTO shapes VALUES (4, 'Polygon', SDO_GEOMETRY(2003, NULL, NULL, SDO_ELEM_INFO_ARRAY(1,1003,1), SDO_ORDINATE_ARRAY(306,193,130,441,489,653,88,183,442,354,306,193)));
    But, when i run this query again:
    SELECT shape_id,SDO_GEOM.VALIDATE_GEOMETRY_WITH_CONTEXT(c.shape, 0.005) FROM shapes c;
    4     13349 [Element <1>] [Ring <1>][Edge <4>][Edge <1>]
    3     TRUE
    2     13348 [Element <1>] [Ring <1>]
    1     13367 [Element <1>] [Ring <1>]
    it doesn't say TRUE like it did for Circle ??

  • Need help in SQL Query: Update a row in a table & insert the same row into another table

    I want to update a row in a table say Table A and the updated row should be inserted into another table say Table B. I need to do it in a single SQL query and i don't want to do it in PL/SQL with triggers. And i tried with MERGE statement but its working with this scenario. (Note: I'm using Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.1.0).
    Thanks in Advance.

    Using Sven's code as an example, you could save the updated row in a sql plus variable. (also untested):
    SQL> var v_id number
    update tableA
    set colB='ABC'
    where colC='XYZ'
    returning id into :v_id;
    insert into table A_History (ID, colA, colB, ColC)
    select id, ColA, ColB, ColC
    from tableA
    where id = :v_id;

    Thanks in advance.Do you really mean that?
    select col1 from table1 where col1='5';That query will always return either '5' or nothing. Whatever you're trying to accomplish with that, you can do with an EXISTS query.
    Perhaps you meant to reference two different columns in that query:
    select col1 from table1 where col2='5';In that case, sorry, no, you can't do that without resorting to dynamic SQL.
    If the same column is used throughout the query (but could change every time you run the query), then the dynamic SQL might be pretty easy. In SQL*Plus, for example, you could use substitution variables, defined in another query at run-time.
    If there are only a few possible values that the sub-query could possibly return, and you know what they all are, then you can fake a dynamic query like this:
    SELECT     CASE     ( SELECT  col1
                FROM       table1
                WHERE       col2     = '5'
              WHEN  'BONUS'     THEN  bonus
              WHEN  'COMM'     THEN  comm
              WHEN  'SAL'     THEN  sal
         END     AS col1
    FROM     table2
    ;Sorry to give such a vague answer, but it's the best I can do with the information I have.
    It would help if you posted a little sample data (CREATE TABLE and INSERT statments for both tables), and the results you want to get from that data. If you want to pass a parameter to the query, give the results you want for a couple of different parameters.

  • SQL query for empty string

    I am trying to execute the following SQl query, SELECT * FROM Failure WHERE ID = '123' AND RepairAction = ' ';, using the DB Tools Execute Query.vi. This query never finds the record in my database. My database contains a record where the ID filed contains the value of '123' and the RepairAction field is an empty string. If I remove the 'AND RepairAction ' ';' text from my query statement, the record is found. I believe my problem is that I am not using the correct syntax to describe and empty string. I have tried the following: '', ' ', "", " ", and NULL as empty string arguments, and none of these work.
    I was hoping someone might be able to tell me what the correct syntax is for an empty string or if there is another approach I need to take.
    Thank you in advance for your help,

    Hi,
    While creating your table "Failure", was the column "ID" delclared as intiger or varchar? If it is intiger and you use '123' , it wont return the results. You will have to try without the inverted comas ' '.

    If you want the list of values for command level parameter then you need to add another command like
    select PropertyField from table
    and delete the links between this command and the existing command.
    Now go to field explorer and edit the command level parameter and make it as dynamic and add the property field from newly added command.
    Hope this helps!

  • How To Write A Sql Query to Show 0's

    I never can remember this :-/ What do I have to do to get a SQL Query to return 0 if the Count of a condition is 0?  For example lets say Joe, Jay, Jim could log on, but only Joe & Jim logged in Jay would not be returned in the query below.  What
    would I need to set-up so that All 3 users would be returned
    Select logonName, Count(Logon)
    From logonUserInfo
    where logonName is not nullGROUP BY logonName

    Currently there is only 1 table involved.  I would need a separate table?  What would this table need to hold?
    You wouldn't need a separate table unless and until you want to store who logged in at what time and so on... then your table structures looks like below..
    CREATE TABLE loginnames
    loginid INT
    name VARCHAR(30),
    GO
    CREATE TABLE loginTimes
    loginid INT,
    logintime DATETIME
    GO
    So, now you can do a left join on both tables on a certain date directly and find out who actually logined and who didn't with a count 0 for the one's who didn't login... and that will abide the principles of normalization as well...
    If you don't want to use an another table, you would have to duplicate the loginnames everytime that user logins and also you don't have a track on what date the login happened.. So you will be considering from day 1 to Till date...

  • Sql Query (updateable Report) returning ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value

    Hi I have a Sql Query Report Region as defined below. On the report attributes I am not using any "Row Selector". In a After submit process I try to print out the results of the value I have entered in as a value in updatable report and i get the error: I am doing this as a test before i use the data to insert into another table...
    I receive this error if I enter in a characters (not numeric) into the "Field Value" field.:
    ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character to number conversion error.
    If I enter in a numeric into the "Field Value" text box, then I get the value displayed back without error. I need to be able to enter a varchar value without error.
    My SQL QUERY is:
    select i.INDEXED_FIELD_ID, i.field_name,
    HTMLDB_ITEM.TEXT(3,d.indexed_field_value) field_value,
    decode(f.required, 0, 'O', 1, 'R', 'NOT USED') REQUIRED
    from XXVG_EFILE_DOCUMENT_FIELDS D,
    xxvg_efile_type_fields f, xxvg_efile_indexed_fields i
    WHERE f.indexed_field_id = i.indexed_field_id
    and f.required in (0,1)
    and i.indexed_field_id = d.indexed_field_id(+)
    and d.document_id(+) = -1
    and f.document_type_id = :p21_doc_type
    My after submit process is the following...**Note** I am using P21_test as a field just to display my test. I receive the value back just fine without error if numeric. If varchar, that is when the problems occur. I have used just a length variable like the lettter 't' for testing and still receive the error.
    DECLARE
    vRow BINARY_INTEGER;
    BEGIN
    -- update field values
    FOR i IN 1 .. HTMLDB_APPLICATION.g_f03.COUNT -- your field value
    LOOP
    vRow := HTMLDB_APPLICATION.g_f03(i);
    IF vRow is Not NULL --means the field has data in it.
    THEN
    :p21_test := HTMLDB_APPLICATION.G_F03(i); --set a variable to the field with data.
    END IF;
    END LOOP;
    END;
    Is there a conversion I need to do? I do not want to do this via checkboxes as I dont want the user have to check a checkbox and then enter a value in. I just want a blank text box the user can enter a value in and then i can do an insert.
    Thanks So much.

    Thanks Scott, That did do the trick as the varchar is now displayed of the entered item.
    How do i also display the value of indexed_field_id as well.
    I have an insert where i need the indexed field id and the entered field value.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Showing column value as counter in sql query - report

    I created a classic report with search bar based on an sql query. I would like to show the "notes" column in this query using some sort of counter and as a hyperlink to another section on the page (same idea as footnotes in a book). So if I have 10 rows and 5 have "notes". I should show 1,2,3,4,5 in the notes column for those rows and the number gets displayed as a link to another section listing the notes 1 through 5.
    I was thinking of creating a hidden page item as the counter with value of 0 and then in my query doing counter+1 but i'm not sure how to do this or if i can do that...
    If anyone can help or have any other ideas I would really appreciate it!!
    Thanks,
    Hindy

    Well, I'm doing this in VB and the subquery is dynamic. I'm passing an ADO recordset to a routine that sets up a listview to display the results. The number of columns selected can vary. My idea was to size the columns appropriately based on the size of the data. Within the display routine I could:
    sql = "SELECT "
    for i = 0 to oRS.Fields.Count - 1
    sql = sql & "MAX(LENGTH(" & i & ")), "
    next 'i
    sql = sql & "FROM (" & oRS.Source & ")"
