ANSI for UTF-8

Hi,
We are recieving files as ANSI for UTF-8 and when we get this file from MQ JMS adapter we get the message: com.sap.aii.utilxi.misc.api.BaseRuntimeException:Invalid byte 2 of 2-byte UTF-8.
If we manually convert file to UTF-8 it works ok.
We are using CCSID 1143 adn we tried others to like 1208, 1140.
Any help appriciated.

I'm using SQL Server 2008 and am trying to import a flat txt file that is ANSI as UTF-8 and keep getting error after error on different fields. I'm wondering if there is a series of settings that will give me the best chance of importing this
file. I've inserted a a sample that you can look at.
The row delimiters are SOH and CR LF
Column delimiters are Pipe

For this I think you may be better off creating SSIS package from Business Intelligence Development Studio rather than using Export Import wizard. You need to convert the code page of columns from 1252 to 65001 for saving it to UTF 8 file. In SSIS you
can use a derived column task for that.

ConvertToClob and byte order mark for UTF-8

We are converting a blob to a clob. The blob contains the utf-8 byte representation (including the 3-byte byte order mark) of an xml-document. The clob is then passed as parameter to xmlparser.parseClob. This works when the database character set is AL32UTF8, but on a database with character set WE8ISO8859P1 the clob contains an '¿' before the '<'AL32UTF8');
I would assume that the ConvertToClob function would understand the byte order mark for UTF-8 in the blob and not include any parts of it in the clob. The byte order mark for UTF-8 consists of the byte sequence EF BB BF. The last byte BF corresponds to the upside down question mark '¿' in ISO-8859-1. Too me, it seems as if ConvertToClob is not converting correctly.
Am I missing something?

I am using some terminal-based tools like Alpine and Vim, both with UTF-8 text encoding. Printing, however, is a problem, because the UTF-8 characters are not correctly printed. For Alpine I use enscript, but it does not support UTF-8. (Currently I convert UTF-8 to latin1 first using iconv before sending it to enscript, but special characters get lost that way.) For Vim I use CUPS-PDF, a virtual PDF printer, but also here UTF-8 characters does not make it (even though CUPS-PDF works for UTF-8 in Cocoa apps).
Paps as an alternative to enscript may work, but I don't want to spend much time currently installing all necessary libraries.
I am wondering if I can use Leopard's printing natively. *Is there a command line tool ready for OS 10.5 that accepts UTF-8 text and converts it to PS/PDF or sends it directly to a selected printer queue?*

I think you can use enscript for 8 bit code. You just have to set the option. if you check the users guide you may be able to use an option to honor 8 bit code. I haven't tried it, but my .enscriptrc looks like

Char set conversion for UTF-7

Hi,
I am working on Char set conversion to and from UTF-7. However I cannot find and ChatToByte classes for UTF-7 in i18n.jar . Any ideas as how to proceed further with this issue. I feel that there must be a way since UTF-7 is a pretty popular charset especially in emails.

Problem writing file ANSI to UTF-8. OPEN DATASET FOR OUTPUT IN TEXT MODE

My report needs to create a file in ANSI so I am using this sentence: * "OPEN DATASET p_dir_a FOR OUTPUT IN TEXT MODE ENCODING DEFAULT."* almost all charters in the file are well generating excepting for this two: ( Á ) & ( Í ) because SAP assigns the same code to both characters ( Ã? ) = 'xC3' which is not correct, the right code should be ( Á ) = 'xC1' ( Í ) = 'xCD' respectively
from this string = ( ÁÉÍÓÚáéíóúàèìòùÀÈÌÒÙ ) only those two characters are wrong converted.
Also I tray to catch a conversion error with this sentence:
          TRY.
            TRANSFER <field> TO p_dir_a NO END OF LINE.
          CATCH cx_sy_conversion_codepage.
            MESSAGE 'error' type 'I'.
        ENDTRY.
but never enters in it.
Does anyone know where I can configure SAP to SET this value correctly?

Convert data from ANSI to UTF-8 format

We have data in ANSI format (binary) which we need to convert into UTF-8 format. We are able to do it using FM's GUI_UPLOAD and GUI_DOWNLOAD but as the amount of data is huge we are planning to get the conversion done using background job. But, we are not able to get it yet. Can anybody suggest ways to resolve this? Can class CL_ABAP_CONV_X2X_CE be used for the same?

Hello,
If you have the data in Binary mode, you can use the addition IN BINARY MODE while uploading.
For downloading in UTF-8, you can use the addition TEXT MODE ENCODING UTF-8.

SSIS: Change Code page 1252 ANSI to UTF-8 65001

Hi All;
I have created SSIS Package to import data from OLE DB to a flat file. The code page in the flat file connection manager was set to default
1252 ANSI - Latin I. Now I have been asked to output the flat file in
UTF-8 format. I have changed the code page to 65001 UTF-8 but the package will not run. I got the following message:
the code page on input column COLUMN_NAME (184)is 1252 and is required
to be 65001
I have searched around and i have read that i need to change the column data type from
VARCHAR to NVARCHAR!! Is this the solution?

i am having the same problem but none of the proposed solutions work for me. the thing is that my source DB is an SQL server DB table that contains Arabic fields the code page of the Source is 1256.
my destination DB is an SQL Compact Edition (with nvarchar fields) the destination page is 1252
if i use SSIS to import Data to the compact DB the arabic fields in the source Arabic destination appear rubbish
if i set AlwaysUseDefaultCodePage to true, an error occurs (cannot be processed
because more than one code page (1252 and 1256) are specified for it )

Cannot change font for UTF-8 pages in FF 4.0.1

No matter whether I change Options > Content > Default font, or go to Options > Content > Advanced and set Sans Serif for Other Languages, nothing changes—for instance, on this forum. Everything's still Times New Roman from the looks of it.
The Sans Serif font for Other Languages is set to Arial.
There's no Unicode entry in the list. The Other Languages is the closest I could find.
I have Options > Content > Advanced > Allow pages to choose their own fonts… unchecked.
I made similar changes for Western, and that worked—for pages detected as having ISO-8859-1 encoding.
Is this a bug? Or am I doing something wrong?

On a more general note, I think that the font setup in Firefox is so over-complicated. I personally want all my pages in a single font, and I don't care if some weird languages are displayed incorrectly with it. I bet that most people do want the same, even them who speak those weird languages. It's just a matter of picking one font that works for the languages you care about.
Now that might not work perfectly for everybody so there should be an advanced option—an ability to add overrides. It should be similar to how it works now but the list of overrides should be user-customizable and '''empty by default.''' So that we regular people don't bother ourselves with encodings and languages we're never going to use.
I wonder if I'm the only one who's disappointed with FF's font settings. Couldn't find anything on this topic on the 'net.

I doubt its just encoding conversion as you are dealing with NON-ANSI characters (Chinese,Chinese Traditional and so on). I would suggest first you can format the xml than you can go ahead with encoding conversion .

XDK support for UTF-16 Unicode

Hi,
Does the Oracle Java XDK, specifically the XSQL servlet and api,
support UTF16-Unicode.
Presumably, .xsql files have to be stored, read and queries
executed in a Unicode compliant format for this to work. Is this
possible currently???

If you are using XDK 9.0.1 or later, and you are using JDK 1.3,
this combination supports UTF-16. XSQL inherits the support
for "free" in this case.

VBScript doesn't work for UTF-8 text files

I'm new to scripting. When I tried to run the sample VBScript on page 8 of the PDF doc, "Adobe Introduction to Scripting," I got an error message, "Invalid Character, Line 1, Column 1."
I'm running CS3 Design Premium on Windows XP Pro.
The problem turned out to involve the character encoding of the .jsx text file. I use UTF-8 UNICODE encoding for all of my text files, and the VBScript interpreter has not been updated to handle UTF-8. When I saved the file with the Windows 1252 Western European encoding, the script worked as advertised.
I use UTF-8 now, and I'm planing to go to UTF-16. I want my Web sites and text files to display the way I wrote them anywhere in the world, and I don't want character-set restrictions on text that I insert into CS3 docs using a script.
I don't know if the problem lies with Adobe or with Windows, but it represents a fault that needs to be fixed.

Maybe the problem is that you're trying to write a VBScript in a .jsx file? You need to rename it to .vbs .

Bitmap font creator (for UTF-8 enconding)?

We have a multilangual project, where all textes are stored
in XML-files
with UTF-8 encoding
Text from XML was read by Director and shown through
Flash-objects
Now we want to display these text, using some bitmap fonts
(for examples all
letters of font are represented as sequence of small
letter-pictures, all
containing in one bitmap castmember + XML description file,
contatining
position of each letter in that bitmap castmember)
We need a bitmap font creator, that can create such images,
representing
fonts.
Important is, that this creator should store description file
in UTF-8
encoding, so that we can crate bitmap presentation for
german, french,
spanish etc. special characters. Does any one know about some
tool like
this?
