AOP -- is this a reasonable use?

I'm a bit new to AOP (I'm using spring, if that matters), it occurs to me that data validation is a good case for using AOP. I can set a joinpoint before data is provided to an object and then have the advice be to call one or more validators on that data. The question becomes how to reasonably handle the case where validation fails. Should it perhaps throw an exception and have the interface to the object declared to indicate that the exception is possible so that the caller will handle the case where the object wants its data validated? Any thoughts here?

Very interesting. Although it doesn't specifically answer the question it does suggest that the transfer rate I am getting is good, that is encouraging.
It's fairly good. Mine run somewhat faster, but there are many variables.
Try the things in #D2 of Time Machine - Troubleshooting (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum). One or more may help.

    We are getting the below error in our production server & also other servers(UAT, Staging). Only option is to restart the OSB server.
    Test connection is working fine and able to connect the database without any issue. We have enabled connection leak profiling and also, provided the inactive time outs , still does not work. Need your suggestion for the below error.

    You may need to configure the connection settings in the deployment descriptor (i.e. DbAdapter.rar#META-INF/weblogic-ra.xml) and restart the server.  This exception is considered retriable, likely due to a communication failure.  To classify it as non-retriable instead add property nonRetriableErrorCodes with value "0" to your deployment descriptor (i.e. weblogic-ra.xml).  To auto retry a retriable fault set these composite.xml properties for this invoke: jca.retry.interval, jca.retry.count, and jca.retry.backoff.  All properties are integers.

    Its hard to say what is going on.  Though the message says the error is in obtaining a TopLink session, the exception stack has nothing to do with TopLink, and the error seems to be coming from oracle.tip.adapter.db.toplinkext.NameEnquoter.init() directly calling weblogic.jdbc.wrapper.Connection.getMetaData() on what must be a stale or closed connection.  This looks like a DB adapter application, so you might want to post this question there as they might be able to help configure your datasource appropriately for the application.

  • Is this a reasonable transfer rate?

    I am backing up my data to a new Time Capsule via ethernet. The total data is 550GB which I estimate at present speed will take 30 hours, that is approximately 18GB per hour. Is this a reasonable transfer rate or have I got something wrong?

    zanyjudy wrote:
    Very interesting. Although it doesn't specifically answer the question it does suggest that the transfer rate I am getting is good, that is encouraging.
    It's fairly good. Mine run somewhat faster, but there are many variables.
    Try the things in #D2 of Time Machine - Troubleshooting (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum). One or more may help.

  • "Mac OS X cannot be installed on 'Macintosh HD'. This disk is used for Time Machine backups."

    I am trying to upgrade our MacBook to Snow Leopard, but when prompted to select which hard drive to install on and "Macintosh HD" is selected, the following message generates: "Mac OS X cannot be instaled on  'Macintosh HD'. This disk is used for Time Machine backups."
    I disabled Time Machine switched it "off," put it in the trash can, then "Secure Emptied" the trash can. I also rebooted. Then I connected an external hard drive thinking that might help, but for some reason I still cannot proceed with the Snow Leopard upgrade because "the disk is used for Time Machine backups."
    WHAT is the DEAL!?

    It doesn't sound like an upgrade would work very well anyway. Make sure you have a good backup and repartition the startup volume. Then install Snow Leopard onto the hard drive and migrate your old users and applications.

  • Java Applet won't load when a JavaScript variable "this.Document" is used.

    Hi,
    Creating a "this.Document" variable within JavaScript interferes with some versions of Java. So far it breaks on the following versions, using IE7 on Windows XP:
    * JRE 6.0 Update 7
    * JRE 6.0 Update 6
    * JRE 6.0 Update 5
    * JRE 6.0 Update 4
    [Due to time constraints JRE 6.0 to JRE 6.0 Update 3 were not tested]
    * JRE 5.0 Update 22
    [Due to time constraints JRE 5.0 Update 16 to JRE 5.0 Update 21 were not tested]
    * JRE 5.0 Update 15
    [Due to time constraints JRE 5.0 Update 1 to JRE 5.0 Update 14 were not tested]
    * JRE 5.0
    The following HTML demonstrates this problem when you have any of the above versions of Java installed:
    <html>
        <head>
            <title>Java Bug</title>
            <script type="text/javascript" language="javascript">
                this.Document = 'string'; // Remove this line to get it to work again
            </script>
        </head>
        <body style="background-color:black">
            <applet id="testVM" alt="Something is wrong. Java is not working."
                codebase="http://www.java.com/applet" code="testJava2_1/TestVMApplet"
                archive="TestVM2-test.jar" width="500" height="280">
                <param name="locale" value="en" />
                <param name="titleSize" value="22" />
                <param name="subtitleSize" value="18" />
            </applet>
        </body>
    </html>The page only displays a white box where the Java Applet should be. If you then remove the "this.Document" variable or simply rename it to something else then the applet loads without problems. Normally I would just use a different variable name but the variable name is placed within the Mootools JavaScript Framework and is not easily changed without forking my own project.
    Does anyone know why this happens and if it can be fixed without having to update to the latest version of Java?
    Thanks

    'this.document' is a predefined variable that defines the URL source of the current page. If you are referring to the predefined variable that provides access to the Document Object Model then I believe you are mistaken, that is 'window.document' or just 'document'.

    Your name either conflicts with that or is getting confused with it somewhere.The 'document' variable is a parent of the window object e.g. 'window.document' but my variable has the context of 'this'. That means 'this.document.URL' returns 'undefined' instead of the URL for the current page.
    JavaScript is also case sensitive so 'document.URL' is not the same as 'Document.URL', the last of which returns 'undefined'.
    If Java relealy was confusing my variable with the predfined one then I would expect the same behaviour if I were to use differnt variations of the variable. However the follwoing JavaScript doesnt affect the Applet in anyway:
    <script type="text/javascript" language="javascript">
        //this.Document = 'string'; // Remove this line to get it to work again
        this.document = 'string';
        document = 'string';
        Document = 'string';
    </script>For some strange reason it only affects the Applet when 'this.Document' is used. Why would Java be affected in this way in the first instance? Even setting the 'scriptable' parameter to false doesn’t help:
    <param name="scriptable" value="false">Are there any other settings I am not aware of that could maybe prevent Java from loooking at the JavaScript?
    EJP wrote:
    Use another name.As I mentioned in my original post this is not easily done, I can edit the source code on my own site but the code still remains unchanged on the Mootools JavaScript Framework website.

  • Refreshing Business Area - "This item is used elsewhere"

    We are preparing for an upgrade to Banner 8, and from the Discoverer side, I know one of the first tasks is to refresh the business areas in Discoverer Admin (10.1.2.2). In a test instance, I tried refreshing a couple separate folders in one of the most-used BA's; no problem.
    When I tried to refresh the entire BA (about 300 folders), I looked through the results and didn't see anything unexpected. After I hit OK, though, it worked for a while then gave me an error box - "This item is used elsewhere, its datatype cannot be changed. Error refreshing the definition of the End User Layer." No indication of WHICH item, no option other than the "OK" button. When I accept OK, it doesn't appear that anything has been refreshed.
    I would prefer not to refresh each folder individually (and, this is only one of many BA's). Can anyone give me a clue about what it's trying to tell me? For the most part, our BA's are self-contained, but there may be a case where we have a join across different BA's. If anyone has had experience with this issue, I'd appreciate anything you can share. It could be something totally unrelated to the Banner upgrade (the BA's aren't normally refreshed on a regular basis) - but I'm not sure what's the best way to track down the problem. My next plan is to refresh them in groups until I hit the one with the problem, but maybe someone has a better idea.
    And a side question - is there any way to export or copy the list of items it generates - the one where you can examine and check/uncheck individual items before proceeding?
    Thanks much,
    Martha
    Update - well, it wasn't Banner 8 related; more likely related to an earlier Banner upgrade where nobody refreshed the BA's. Normally their internal id (pidm) is numeric, but in one Banner-supplied view it's varchar. For whatever reason, the Discoverer folder had it defined as numeric. If I don't accept that change (changing datatype from numeric to varchar), it refreshes fine. Looks like the issue's been there for a while and hasn't caused us a problem yet. Still, any other input is welcome!

    Thanks for the quick answers. Working in batches seems to be working for the most part.
    I am running into one other thing that I'll throw out here and see if anyone else has seen it. On two of the BA's I'm trying to refresh, I'm getting an error "Internal EUL Error: No Transaction - there is no current transaction". This doesn't seem to be related to Banner 8 either - I get the same error on the same 2 BA's in our production environment. This is after I select "refresh", and before it comes back with the list of changes.
    The documentation helpfully tells me...
    BI-SVR-03228: Internal EUL Error: NoTransaction - there is no current transaction
    Cause: An internal error has occurred in Discoverer. User might be able to continue working, but the current operation may not have been performed correctly.
    Action: Record the steps and actions taken immediately before this error was reported and contact your customer support representative with the details.
    I can't figure out anything that's different between the 2 BA's that get this error and the dozens that refresh successfully. I've tried closing & restarting Admin - same results.
    Anyone else seen this?
    Thanks!

  • Can I refactor this query to use an index more efficiently?

    I have a members table with fields such as id, last name, first name, address, join date, etc.
    I have a unique index defined on (last_name, join_date, id).
    This query will use the index for a range scan, no sort required since the index will be in order for that range ('Smith'):
    SELECT members.*
            FROM members
            WHERE last_name = 'Smith'
            ORDER BY joindate, idIs there any way I can get something like the following to use the index (with no sort) as well:
    SELECT members.*
            FROM members
            WHERE last_name like 'S%'
            ORDER BY joindate, idI understand the difficulty is probably; even if it does a range scan on every last name 'S%' (assuming it can?), they're not necessarily in order. Case in point:
    Last_Name:  JoinDate:
    Smith          2/5/2010
    Smuckers     1/10/2010An index range scan of 'S%' would return them in the above order, which is not ordered by joindate.
    So is there any way I can refactor this (query or index) such that the index can be range scanned (using LIKE 'x%') and return rows in the correct order without performing a sort? Or is that simply not possible?

The db engine accesses contiguous index entries and then uses the ROWID values in the index to retrieve the table rows.

    flash player has been installed multiple time without errors but bbc news website and even flash player help say it isn't. How do i get out of this loop? - using windows 7 ultimate and latest IE11

    I have had the same problem for WEEKS and I cannot access any sites that use Flash. Flash has been installed on this computer since I bought it in 2012. I have allowed auto updates but for weeks the updates never get past Step 2 - is this because I do NOT want the Google Tool bar? I use NO tool bars as there is only 6 inches of vertical screen space. Is this because I uncheck wanting Chrome as a default browser?  It is already installed, I just don't use it.  I came to this site and ran the check is it installed and the system says it is either not installed or not enabled. Version 14 just downloaded about 30 minutes ago - but did not progress to Step 3 although a pop up screen came up with a finish button, which I clicked. WHAT is the problem and how do I fix it?  If this were just a compatibility bug between IE11 and Adobe they have had plenty of time to fix it.

  • How do you upload firmware to Airport extreme with the following message: This version of AirPort Utility requires this AirPort Extreme use firmware version 7.3.1 or later. Use AirPort Utility 5.6 to update this base station. I'm using airport utility 6.0

    The airport extreme at my parent's house has not had its firmware update in some time and it keeps dropping the internet connection and needing to be reset.
    I went to update firmware and opened up airport utilities (I'm running airport 6.0 on Mountain Lion, 10.7.4).  Everytime I open the airport utility I get the following message: "
    This version of AirPort Utility requires this AirPort Extreme use firmware version 7.3.1 or later. Use AirPort Utility 5.6 to update this base station. AirPort Utility 5.6 is available at AirPort Service and Support.
    I've followed the link and tried to update firmwares but none are available and the print says that airport utility will look to see if firmware are available and load them as necessary when prompted by user.
    One link said the only way to solve this problem is open up Airport Utility 5.6. I tried to do this, but 5.6 is not supported on Mountain Lion and couldn't be opened up.
    I'm getting the exact same message on my other computer, a Mac Air.
    So basically, can't download new firmware and am stuck with a ****** airport extreme that needs to keep being reset, a factory reset, in order to use the internet, but then continues to give me the same message.
    Thanks!

    See this article for instructions on how to install AirPort Utility 5.6 for Lion on Mountain Lion:

    can this device be used as an external hard drive with a macbook pro laptop and use files on the airport time capsule?

    If you mean an AirPort base station other than the Time Capsule, it doesn't have internal storage.
    If you mean a Time Capsule, its internal drive can be used for regular file storage but shouldn't be; as with all drives, it'll eventually fail. You're better off using a standalone drive and setting Time Machine to back it up as well.

    here can I get a version of Safari 5.1 that is compatible with Snow Leopard 10.6.3?
    Not possible. You need to update to v10.6.8
    Click your Apple menu > Software Update
    Or update using the this download > Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo
    Then restart your Mac.

    Camera connection kit for ipad 2. Can this kit be used with ipad air and if so what adapter(s) are required please

    You can try the 30 pin to lightning adapter but I'm not sure if that'll work. So if you get it to experiment, make sure you can return it. Apple does sell a SD to lightning adapter for the newer devices. So that should be a sure bet. The main downside is that your 30 pin camera kit came with both USB and SD for 29 and now the USB adapter is 19 and the SD adapter 29, so more expensive.
    You may want to look into third party adapters, but make sure you use a reputable manufacturer (ie not a cheap no-name off amazon) because iOS7 brought with it software that looks for a signed chip in the adapter. And a chip is 'signed' when a company gets apple's permission to make accessories. I would suggest sticking with companies like Belkin, Kensington and Targus. They seem to be of a better reputation when making things and would have a signed chip.

  • HT4191 iPhone Local Storage "My iPhone" - How do you create this folder for use by the Notes app on a iPhone or iPad?  If I want to keep some notes only on my device and not in a cloud environment associated with an e-mail account.

    iPhone Local Storage "My iPhone" - How do you create this folder for use by the Notes app on a iPhone or iPad?  If I want to keep some notes only on my device and not in a cloud environment associated with an e-mail account.  I've seen reference to the  "My iPhone" local storage put no mention on how you create this folder or access this folder within the Notes app.  I realize storing information in a local storage like this provides no syncing between other iDevices but that is exactly what I'm looking for.  I'm running iOS7.0.4 on a iPhone 5S, and a iPad Air.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    If you go to Settings > Notes > Default Account you will see "On My iPhone" as the default account and the only choice if you have not enabled syncing Notes in Settings >iCloud or Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars. If you have enabled syncing you can still select "On My iPhone" as the default account. When you are in the Notes app you won't see any accounts listed if you have not enabled syncing because they are all in the On My iPhone account and that is the only place possible. It is not a folder that you create.

    If you are deploying from Visual Studio then please follow this post:
    http://sharepointfordeveloper.blogspot.com/2014/03/solved-visual-studio-issue-error.html
    Open the visual Studio and navigate to the feature XML file and add the bellow attribute.
    AlwaysForceInstall="TRUE"
    The <FeatureName>.Template.Xml output would be some think link this.
    <?xml
    version="1.0"
    encoding="utf-8"
    ?><Feature
    xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/sharepoint/"
    AlwaysForceInstall="TRUE"></Feature>

    Just read that the default memory storage on FF is set to 5 mbs. You can up that by clicking on tools, advanced and overriding the default and set it to 50 mbs (if you use lots of tabs) or 10 mbs (if you use just a few).
    I open a blank tab and clear the cache periodically, while I am working. I can have several tabs open and watch videos on Youtube, by doing this. Have you cleared your cache?
    Since I have an older computer, I've also used CCleaner for years. I use it often, but always before signing off. You can get it free...search for CCleaner, download from Pirifoam free. I didn't change any of the settings and it clears crap left behind from uninstalling programs, clears all browsers at once of: cookies, history, passwords, etc. I love it!
    I had freezing, before using the "open blank tab, clear the cache" thing. Now I have no problems. Plus, as I said...you can change the default memory usage for FF and that should help too.
    Hope this helps! Good luck! :)
