i am renew my switches on my LAN, and when connect the AP´s on my new switch the SSID "grafowl" do not assign IP address. the another SSID "guestwl" works fine.

  • Adding a new switch to the network....configuring internet access

    Hey guys i need some help!
    I am trying to set up my first switch. I am using the catalyst 2950 for learning on.
    The network im on right now (the one with internet) has the following settings.
    10.22.227.???
    255.255.255.0
    10.28.43.254
    The one i am learning on i connect to it by going to 192.168.0.1 this will allow me into it using the Cisco Network Assistant.
    I have a laptop on port 1 using Vlan1 and i have Desktop on port 24 with vlan 1 and i have a cable from our 10.22.227 network pluged into port 23
    I am able to see the computers and i can share files on it. What i dont understand being a noob is why i dont have any internet on ether computer.
    I have setup up port 23 as a switch.
    It seams like to me i would have to give the switch a ip address a subnet mask a default gatway and a dns of the 10.22.227 network on port 23.
    Can some one throw some light on the subject and point me in a good direction?

    @de fl
    If i go to a computer on the 10. network i can ping and go out and do everything i need to.
    But if i try and ping with in the new switch (192) it does not work. I have added an ip address and a default gateway I have added a screen show on how our network is set up.
    To me i think i need to add a ip address subnet mask and default gateway to the switch for the new switch to work.

  • New Switcher digital video questions

    Hi all,
    I am a new switcher as of 2 weeks ago when I picked up a new iMac. So far I love it but I do have a few questions. I imported a TON of miniDV video (150GB). I noticed on one tape that the clock had been set wrong. It now shows up in the wrong folder under iMovie. Any way I can change the files to reflect the right date so it gets put in the right place?
    Also, I just tried to run iDVD. It will not run, it seems to just start and quit. Anyone else have this problem?

    Unix provides a function known as Touch which will modify the dates modified and created for files. You can learn more about it here:
    http://www.osxfaq.com/man/1/touch.ws
    If you open the application Terminal in Applications -> Utilities, and drag the said file after inserting the touch command of your choice (providing a space between the complete command sequence and allowing the path of the file to show up), and then hit the enter key, you will be able to modify the date created and modified on the Finder. I don't know how iMovie sequences its own folders, but that's how to change the Finder info for the file.
    If iDVD doesn't work you may have insufficient space to create a temporary file, or something else is the matter. How much free space do you have? Is your new iMac one with a Superdrive according to the box?

  • Adding new switch in my network including Cisco Prime Infrastructure

    hi all,
    if I connect new switch to my network, can I let Cisco PI to apply a specific template of configuration to this switch automatically?
    how can I do that ?
    thanks in advance

    Hi,
    i followed these steps :
    SWITCH SIDE
    - configured Prime Infrastructure as snmp-server host;
    - enabled snmp-traps for linkup and linkdown events globally;
    - disabled snmp-traps for linkup and linkdown on non relevant interfaces using the no snmp trap link-status command
    PRIME INFRASTRUCTURE SIDE
    - under "Deploy/Monitor Deployment" i deployed template "Interface Health"  for all the interested switches
    -  under "Administration/System Settings/Mail Server Configuration" configured my internal SMTP server to make Prime Infrastructure able to send e-mails
    - under "Operate/Alarms & Events" click on "Email Notifications" , then on "Switches and Hubs"
       - check the "critical" box ,  insert the destination e-mail address into the "To" field then click "Save"
     -  check the "switches and Hubs" box and then click Save
    As i know is possible to avoid to configure every single not-interesting port on the switches with "no snmp trap link-status" command (it's a bit annoying when you have tens of switches), using Port Grouping configuration on PI but i tried it without success.
    Hope this helps.
    Best Regards,

  • One way ping through new switch

    NetTechMike wrote:
    If a ping works one way, then it is almost always the firewall on the end of the connection
    PING isn't a one way traffic item. It is bi-directional.
    The ICMP echo request goes out and the reply is what you see at the command prompt when you get a "reply received"
    So, if PING really is replying with a proper response and not a "destination host unreachable" then there isn't a thing wrong on the routing side, it'll be the firewall.

    Hello!A few days back we installed a new switch (HP 1620-24G JG913A) for a new office inside our building. The switch is connected to the same one in our server room. The computers inside the office are functioning perfectly as far as the users are concirned. They can use network printers, open helpdesk tickets, access the intranet, internet, etc.
    However, even though everything was functioning well in the old office (the machines are the same ones), nothing going the other way can get through. They can't be pinged, Spiceworks doesn't recognize them (although they have agents installed), and, well, that's not nice.The two switches are configured identically, and googling for the solution hasn't turned up anything usable (for me). For now it's not a big issue, but I'd like to solve it, so that it wouldn't become a problem later.Any help...

  • CNA becomes very SLOW after adding new switch to cluster

    Added a CAT-2970 to my cluster and now CNA is acting very slow, especially when I attempt managing the new switch. I am still below the 16 node cluster limit. I did initially find a CRC on the new switch trunk port int. and noticed that it came up as Dynamic Auto/ISL and the core was at Dynamic Desireable/ISL, so I hard set it to Dyn-desire to match... still very slow CNA.
    The problem was not there before and after restarting the application, it appears to be fine... until I attempt to manage/view/reach the new switch - and then EVERYTHING in CNA goes slow again (hourglass of death) for some period of time.
    Yet, telnet & ping to new switch is always fast, no problems at all. Strictly seems to be a CNA problem...
    Ideas??
    Thanks,
    Al

    Looking at the outline given by u,there may be several reasons for this slow access such as loose connection, improper trunking and so on.Ofcourse, CNA problem can also be one cause.But, if u r sure that it is a CNA problem, why not u try for a new version of CNA?First of all, which version of CNA r u using?is it CNA 1.0 or 2.0 version.If so, try installing or upgrading CNA3.0.
    For detailed info on installing and upgrading to CNA3.0, the following URL will be useful.

  • New Switcher Mail Rules Question

    Hi everyone. I jsut switched and in setting up Mail I want it to move all mail from a specific account to a Folder( don't want to use the inbox for this account). When I setup the rule to move all mail from account X to folder Z, Junk mail rules are no longer followed. I want it to do the message moved based on the account, but I STILL want the JUNK rule to be active so it filters the junkmail then does the message moving.
    Make sense?
    Hope someone can help.
    Lawrence
    Macbook pro yo!   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   all pimped out

    Lawrence,
    I had been thinking, already, about what to do if this did not work. It occurred to me that the Junk filter might be putting the messages in your other mailbox, INSTEAD of the Junk mailbox, and not as a result of your Rule to move the messages.
    One way to test this possibility would be to remove your Rule to move the incoming messages, and see where the Junk filter would then place the junk messages. Your folder would still be available, and if junk mail still found its way there, we would know the answer. In this approach, you could later rewrite the Rule, and have it apply to all messages already in the Inbox.
    The other approach would be to change the preferences for Junk, to go back into Training, which should remove the Junk folder. Quit Mail, and then reset Junk to be in Automatic, which then would create new Junk folders.
    Still another approach would be to remove all Mail Preferences, and set things up again (but not losing any mailboxes) -- I do not like this approach, for now.

  • New switcher joins Mac community

    I have finally ordered my iMac G5 (1.5Gb RAM, 500Gb disk & wireless keyboard/mouse), and hope to get it next week sometime. After 20 years with PC's including obtaining Microsofts MCSE technical acreditation, I am about to embark on a whole new adventure!!
    When my new work of art arrives, are there any golden rules for a new Mac user. Some initial concerns are these, but am sure there are some I have not thought of:
    1) I will be sharing the work of art with my wife, so when setting up accounts, should I create my account as admin, or should I use a seperate admin account for maintenance and use a normal account for each of us for everyday use?
    2) As I am thinking of getting a .Mac account for backup, the webpage functionality, and more importantly the Learning Centre. Should I start my initial trial via my PC before starting the Mac for the first time, so that it will setup with a new .Mac e-mail address?
    3) Can the Mail application cope with several accounts at once, seemlessly. I currently have e-mail with BT Yahoo, Hotmail, Tiscali & Orange. BT Yahoo being my main one.
    4) Is it really safe not to use Anti-Spy, Anti-Virus etc., apart from ensuring you are not a carrier. My BT Yahoo e-mail has anti-virus, and I think .Mac has too.
    5) Can I run a Mini-DV CAM import on my account in the background, whilst my wife switches into her account and work for a while? (I have several tapes to import!)
    5) Any golden rules for a) my novice phase & b) for when I gain more experience?
    Cheers,
    Simon

    1) I will be sharing the work of art with my wife, so
    when setting up accounts, should I create my account
    as admin, or should I use a seperate admin account
    for maintenance and use a normal account for each of
    us for everyday use?
    My wife and I both have admin accounts, with managed users for the kids.
    2) As I am thinking of getting a .Mac account for
    backup, the webpage functionality, and more
    importantly the Learning Centre. Should I start my
    initial trial via my PC before starting the Mac for
    the first time, so that it will setup with a new .Mac
    e-mail address?
    You can configure .Mac via the .Mac preference pane in System Preferences, so I don't think it's important that you have your .Mac account setup beforehand. Also, many features of .Mac can only be used on a Mac, so you might not be able to do much with your trial account from your Windows PC.
    3) Can the Mail application cope with several
    accounts at once, seemlessly. I currently have
    e-mail with BT Yahoo, Hotmail, Tiscali & Orange. BT
    Yahoo being my main one.
    I used to have Mail setup to retrieve e-mail from 5 accounts. It all worked fine.
    4) Is it really safe not to use Anti-Spy, Anti-Virus
    etc., apart from ensuring you are not a carrier. My
    BT Yahoo e-mail has anti-virus, and I think .Mac has
    too.
    .Mac does not have anti-virus anymore. But it's not much of an issue as there are no viruses or spyware for Mac OS X yet. As always, practice safe surfing and don't go clicking on suspicious links in e-mails. It's wise to use the built-in firewall or else use a firewall in a router. Someday there will probably be a virus or something that can affect your Mac, so you'll have to decide if you want to buy anti-virus now, later or never.
    5) Can I run a Mini-DV CAM import on my account in
    the background, whilst my wife switches into her
    account and work for a while? (I have several tapes
    to import!)
    Dunno. I suspect so. I just got a camera for Christmas, so I don't know anything about video yet.
    5) Any golden rules for a) my novice phase & b) for
    when I gain more experience?
    Use the built-in help, ask questions on this forum. Always make regular backups.

  • Introducing new switch to TRUNKED network

    I have 2 old 3550s acting as network cores, they are running HSRP together, and there is a trunk link from each core going to each leaf switch in my network for redundancy, stp controls the active/standby links...
    I am about to replace an old 2950 leaf switch with a new 3750 and I don't want this switch to become the root for all VLANs in the topology, just some that are mainly local to this switch - any advice?
    Also, would there be any other things that I should be careful with or aware of before doing this? (no worries with VTP, running transparent mode everywhere)
    Thanks...

    hi,
    If you need to tune STP you can use a number of different methods. Yo can manually set the STP priority of your switches. The lower the number to more chance that it will be the root. Here are some commands:
    spanning-tree priority 1 (default is 32768) this will set a switch to be the root as long as every other switch has a default priority or higher.
    If you want the switch to look at all the priority numbers on the Spanning-Tree and decide for you use:
    spanning-tree vlan root primary
    Pls rate if this helps.

  • Hi there, new switcher! Why is Quicktime so c-h-o-p-p-y?

    Its a streams right click save to QUICKTIME Movie from the web on a fast HD and plenty of free memory.
    The duration is 3'29'44 and 2.56 GB in size (Sports game).
    Its using flip4mac obviosly. DIVx won't open it, is there something else that would play it better? Can I use FCP to render for better results?
    CODEC as follows:
    Windows Media Audio 9 Standard, Windows Media Video 9 Standard
    Perhaps there is a better program that will run this without being c-h-o-p-p-y?
    It is like stuttering although the audio is fine. Have edited but not so much (new to FCP (wow, what a bang for the buck compared to the overpriced you know what)).
    Help is appreciated sweeties!
    Thanks.
    I just want to watch it without it look so choppy! If I have to re-render I will.
    The standard window size is 512x384, not quite up to speed on how to set up FCP to re-render for better streaming so if ya wanna help me there too, thanks!
    Princess Sheri the new mac switcher.

    It is possible that FCP was taking up processor time, though it's also possible that it's just the key frame spacing of the WMV that is making it more noticeable when some data is skipped.
    Exporting it to DV would solve any skipping, but the file would become about 45 GB big. Also the Flip4Mac component is for playback, if you try to export a movie you'll see a messge over the video telling you that it's Flip4Mac that was used. You would need to pay for one of their products that allows exporting.
    I think that if you have FCP, that means you also have QuickTime Pro. You could open the WMV in QuickTime Player and export it straight to DV. Or you could use another codec to save space. Try the Apple TV preset, that would give good results and would be about 1/8th the file size of the DV. It would take a long time to compress though.

  • A new switcher seeks help!!!

    Hi,
    I have just switched to Mac OS X from Windows! I have used Windows since my childhood but I can honestly switching to Mac is the best thing I have done. I have already feel in love with my Mac and I am enjoying learning about the new system!
    Obviously I am starting pretty much from scratch as all my knowledge is Windows based but I am determined to learn all I can about Mac's and OS X!
    I would be really grateful if you experienced Mac users could point me in the direction of good learning material for switchers, so I can learn about my Mac a lot faster and all the functions of OS X!
    Thank you for all your patiance and help!

    I'd stop by and show you but I'm only going to be in London for 2 hours via an international route to Manchester in a few weeks.
    So here is something you can print out and help yourself get to know you Mac with.
    First of all a quickie about the Doc. This is a combination application launcher that you can drag files (applications, web page shortcuts, etc.) onto and off of to customise to your hearts content. When applications run it also puts a small black triangle under the application to show you that it is already running. No triangle, not running =) simple. You can right-click on icons to bring up context menus like in Windows and I'm sure you are good to go from there.
    Keyboard Shortcuts Cross-Reference
    o Copy an item
    Mac = <Option> + drag icon to new location (try holding the dragged icon over a folder or disk icon without releasing the mouse button to see something that makes you appreciate Mac finder a lot!)
    Windows = <Control> + drag icon
    o Clipboard - copy to
    Mac = <Command> + <C>
    Windows = <Control> + <C>
    o Clipboard - cut to
    Mac = <Command> + <X>
    Windows = <Control> + <X>
    o Clipboard - paste to
    Mac = <Command> + <V>
    Windows = <Control> + <V>
    o Clipboard - screen capture to
    Mac = <Command> + <Control> + <Shift> + <3>
    Windows = <Print Screen>
    * actually Mac has more options including using the number 4 instead, etc. but you'll just have to play with them and understand how different needs are addressed by the different numbers wink
    o Create an alias or shortcut
    Mac = <Command> + <L>
    Windows = Right mouse click and select Create Shortcut
    o Delete one space backwards
    Mac = <Delete>
    Windows = <Backspace>
    o Delete one space forwards
    Mac = <Del>
    Windows = <Delete>
    o Display contextual menus
    Mac = <Control> + mouse click with one-button mouse
    Mac = Right mouse click with two-or-more button mouse
    Windows = Right mouse click
    o Exit a dialog box without changes
    Mac = <Escape>
    Windows = <Escape>
    o Force quit a frozen application
    Mac = <Command> + <Option> + <Escape>
    Windows = <Contol> + <Alt> + <Delete>
    o Get item info or properties
    Mac = <Command> +
    Windows = <Alt> + <Enter>
    o Move an item
    Mac = Drag icon
    Windows = <Shift> + drag icon
    o Quit/Close a program
    Mac = <Command> + <Q>
    Windows = <Alt> + <F4>
    o Select more than one item
    Mac = <Shift> + click on each item
    Windows = <Control> + click on each item
    o Select all items
    Mac = <Command> +
    Windows = <Control> +
    o Send items to Trash/Recycle Bin
    Mac = <Command> + <Delete>
    Windows = <Delete>
    o Toggle through open applications
    Mac = <Command> + <Tab>
    Windows = <Alt> + <Tab>
    o Installing program
    It is almost too easy for anyone coming from their windows experience! Usually the application is in a .dmg format or a .sit, dmg files are disk images/compressed iso files, while sit files are like mac zip files. Basically you just run the dmg or sit file and it will mount the application like a drive/usb key does on Windows.
    Just open the application and you should either get a Install Here type icon or the application itself.
    1. If you get the application itself (most frequently encountered method of modern OS X applications), just drag it into your Applications folder and voila; its installed! See, almost too easy eh?
    2. If you have an installer (old applications and a small few of the modern applications) then simply run the installer and off you go.
    o Removing programs (simplified explanation)
    Again, too easy! just move them to your Trash Bin. Those that used installers might also have an uninstaller you can run in the folder for that application.
    o Moving programs
    This is where you discover how much you love your Mac and that Windows and its centralised Registry and ".DLL ****" was a seriously bad move.
    Just drag any modern Mac application from your computer to another drive or your New Shiny Mac you just upgraded to. A large percentage of them will run just fine.
    On Windows, impossible, it will break left and right, you have hours of copying files by hand, editing and reading registry databases and then still missing a file or two and it usually never works. You are best to sit back and re-run the installation program on Windows, twiddling your thumbs while you wait for it to finish, uncompress, copy, manipulate registry databases, and just make you feel rather unproductive =P
    Cheers,

  • How can I actually open multiple tabs of the same site, instead of performing the new "switch to tab" action?

    For example, sometimes I would like to open multiple tabs of Google Maps to get directions to multiple locations, and I haven't found a way to do so without open a new instance of the browser. Thanks.

    This one colors tabs, but the author warns that it doesn't work with other tab-related extensions, so you probably need to keep searching for one that does everything you want:
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/colorfultabs/
    If you don't find a do-it-all extension, you can modify the tab titles with a userscript that is specific to that website. This is because the tab displays the text designated in the page as its title.
    You either could "hard code" the list of words for each of the pages, or you could have a script extract information from the page, for example, the first main heading, or some other predictable bit of data. The script then would insert your preferred wording as the title of the page and Firefox will show that on the tab.
    To see how that appears, so you know whether it would be useful, you could do this experiment:
    On a web page that has useless tab text, open the Web Console using command+alt+k (Windows: Ctrl+Shift+k). In the line at the bottom next to the caret, paste the following code and press Enter:
    document.title="Magic!";
    If you decide you want a script written for this, you could try the request forum on userscripts''.''org:
    [http://userscripts.org/forums/2 Ideas and script requests - Userscripts.org]
    Although some people offer small payments, that usually isn't necessary to motivate people to help.
    Let me give you a brief warning about that site, though: over the past year, a lot of popular scripts were duplicated and reposted with additional code that hijacks your Facebook account. Be cautious when installing scripts, check the reviews, make sure there are no references to Facebook.

  • New switcher looking for a medium-powered graphics app

    I'm new to the Mac and I'm looking for a reasonably easy to use graphics app.
    Bar this problem I'm so happy with the iMac I've had for just over a week I could cry. It's bloody wonderful (sorry, I'm English).
    I've used the GIMP before but to be honest it's almost painful. What I'm really after is something close to Paint Shop Pro on Windows, in other words, a medium-powered graphics app. I just need to:
    Re-size a graphic
    Add anti-alias text and rotate et al
    Cut/Paste whatever
    Increase/decrease colours
    I'm sure you get the general idea. Free or open source would be nice but I'm quite willing to pay for something that'll just do what I'm after.
    Thanks.

    In order of price here are some suggestions:
    Seashore (free)
    Graphic Coverter ($45 approx)
    Acorn ($50 approx)
    Photoshop Elements ($75 approx)
    There are many, many other options. Search on MacUpdate.
    Regards
    TD

  • Setup Multiple Apples for new switcher

    Hi All,
    I am a new back-to-apple guy. Used Apple almost exclusively up to '99, then went to MS because I had to.
    Anyway, I am a total power user in the Windows world and could do what I am asking with my eyes closed, but am lost in OS X.
    I have a new iMac and 2 Mini's all with Leopard and I want to work them together better. Currently they are all set up individually sharing a network connection. What I want is following, and I am hoping someone could help me out:
    1) Network user logon (I realize this may not be possible without server as in windows world, so not manditory)
    2) More importantly, a common user folder area on one of the computers for all the systems.
    3) Setup an automated backup from the one centrally stored user file computer to one of the other systems.
    Example:
    Mini A and Mini B have all user files stored and mapped (may be a windows only term?) to the iMac.
    iMac backs every user file to Mini A except mine which would be backed up to Mini B (because of my many GarageBand files, and the central account for iTunes) every week/month/whatever (possibly using time machine?).
    Thank you in advance!

    Probably the easiest way is to setup one iPad with apps back it up with iTunes
    And restore to the others
    Since you don't have a mdm solution like osx servers profile manager
    Apple Configurator use it to install as many settings as you can via profiles
    It will speed up the configuration less time spent tapping away on each device
    Here is a free hosted mdm
    http://www.meraki.com/products/systems-manager/
    Find my iPhone use can use the same iTunes account, I think the limit is 200 devices
    If you restore from backup passwords are not restored you'd have to re enter them
    Every iPad needs an indervidual ID not an indervidual iTunes account for find my iPhone
    Eg iPad-1 iPad-2 etc
    Check iCloud settings or you could have all devices reading each others calendar
    Consider enabling restrictions here you can stop users adding email accounts
    Changing find my iPhone etc
