Ap elevator solution

Can you explain me some technics of ap installing in elevator for skyscrapers
do you install ap on every floor, or you installing it in elevator mine
also if cisco has ap for internal installation with two antennas
please give me some explanation

Well in the states, many cities don't allow these equipment in the elevator shaft. I think the best solution is if the elevator company can run an Ethernet cable in the shaft (depending on length) and place an AP inside the car. I have seen APs mounted outside the elevator doors and depending on the door, your signal can be lost when the door closes. You also have to look at the roaming from switching access points, which can cause an unreliable solution.
Other options is running a DAS in the elevator shaft. Speak with the elevator company to see what suggestions they have.

  • Adobe's Tech Support is AWFUL!!!!!!!  5 days and no solution!!!! Please help!!!! crashing!

    I this issue can be address be addressed....
    I am completely disappointed, frustrated and angry!!  I have spent over 9 hours on the phone with tech support - in India.  This would not be a problem, but it seems these techs at the call center don't really know anything about Adobe products.  And..... they speak very poor english.  I even had one agent put me on hold for 45 minutes!!!  It was at that time I realized what a sucker I was for waiting that long and hung up.   They don't document the cases that well, because I've called at least 30 times.  Each time I get asked what the problem is, after I've given them my case number.  At a certain point, and as much as we designers pay for these products, I just want to speak with someone who can help and communicate well with me.   Sorry for the rant, but it's ridiculous.
    I recently upgraded my Creative Suite master collection to CS6 Creative Cloud Master Collection.  Here are my system specs:
    3.06 Ghz Core 2 Duo
    6 GB RAM
    OS- (currently) 10.7.4
    CS6 Creative Cloud worked great with Mac OS 10.6 - no issues.  However, like an idiot, I upgraded to Mac Os x 10.7.4.   Immediately - all Adobe products would work until  I saved a project a second time.  So here's the scenario no matter what product I use:
    1.  Open application (photoshop, illustrator, indesign, premiere, etc...)
    2. begin using application - no prob just yet.
    3. Save / Save As project.  saves fine.
    4. Work some more - fine
    5. Save Project -  application crashes / spins, application not responding (gets to 83% and crashes / spins everytime).   However, do a Save As - different project name, no crash!
    6. Upon Saving a second time and application becoming un-responsive,  I will try to Force Quit from finder.  This causes my entire system to become un responsive.  Only solution is to shut off the computer.
    So Far I have done the following-
    1. reinstalled all applications
    2. Manually removed all applications and associated files - caches, prefs, etc.   /  re-installed.  Doesn't work
    3. Created another user and tried applications with same results.
    4. Tried the Root User
    5. Reinstalled yet again.
    6.  Checked for bad fonts.  no avail.
    Cany anyone please help! I'm missing deadlines as it's been a five day issue!!!!!

    I thank you all for taking the time to respond.  Your help and input is greatly appreciated.
    David_B — to answer your questions.
    -The problem has happened with all items in the suite, but mainly with illustrator, photoshop and indesign
    -I was previously using CS4 before my upgrade.  But again, CS6 was working fine with OS 10.6.8
    -Project freezes are occuring with both old projects and new ones.
    -Earlier version, CS4 has since been uninstalled as tech support had me manually uninstall all softwares.
    - The computer is on a simple network. We tend to work from a file server, however, the issue also occurs when saving to desktop or primary drive.
    -When I save second time, and software freezes, I am saving to same location, trying to over-write the file.
    Manish-Sharma—
    I've tried both.  Saving the files to desktop, my user document folder, and our file server.
    It also appears, that the article you linked is something I have not tried.  I will give this a try today.  Thanks!
    Gavante—
    Thanks for trying to help calm me down.
    Please don't misunderstand.  You are correct, the people I've spoken to have all been very nice.  They're just doing their jobs.
    However, I have asked several times to recieve elevated help.  The last phone call I was on yesterday, prior to writing this lasted an hour +.  I spoke to 5 different individuals, all who continued to pass me on to someone of equal support level.  By this time I was very frustrated.  The last individual made a concerted effort to let me speak to the senior level support.  He assured me I would definitely recieve a call back in 10 to 15 minutes from a senior level support agent.
    That was yesterday at 2pm.  I have yet to receive a call.
    It's also not an issue of me being able to understand the agents accents.   Quite the opposite.... It is they who have trouble understanding me, making swift communication very difficult. Which, as you can imagine, to a consumer trying to get an issue resolved is frustrating.

  • HT203296 No solution listed for 27" iMac running 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5

    I have a 27" iMac, Mid 2011.
    Model Identifier iMac12,2
    The processor is a 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5.
    I am running OS X Lion 10.7.3 (11D50)
    Boot ROM Version is IM121.0047.B1F
    SMC Version (system) is 1.72f2
    I have installed Parallels Desktop 7 for Mac Build 7.0.15055 (Revision 740667; March 5, 2012)
    I have created a virtual machine running Windows Server 2008 r2 Enterprise with SP1.
    I am attempting to enable Hyper-V on this server.
    When I attempt to do so, the Add Roles Wizard in Server Manager returns the following error:
    Hyper-V cannot be installed
    The processor on this computer is not compatible with Hyper-V.  To install this role, the processor must have a supported version of hardware -assisted virtualization, and that feature must be turned on in the BIOS.
    Parallels take on the issue is summed up on this thread:
    http://forum.parallels.com/thread3273.html
    Apple has the following information:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2744
    I have just gotten off the phone with a senior tech support representative from Apple.  He is elevating my support request to an engineer, who hopefully will not tell me that this is a Parallels issue, and Apple doesn't provide support for Parallels.  I should receive a response in four business days.
    I figure it's one of three things...V
    VT-X support is disabled on this machine. (Solution, Apple releases an EFI that enables it.)
    VT-X support is enabled on this machine, but Parallels thinks it is not. (Solution, switch to Virtualbox?)
    VT-X support is enabled on this machine, but the virtual machine is emuilating a processor that does not support it (Solution, read the fabulous manual)
    I'd love to hear from anyone who may have a solution to this.  If I get more information, I will update this post.
    P.S. - Why isn't there an option for Mac OS X v10.7.3 Lion in the "You Must Choose a Community" pulldown menu for this form?
    I have run sysctl -a | grep machdep.cpu.features from terminal, and I see that my processor supports VT-X.  Yet, my virtual server says my processor doesn't support it.  Help?

    No solution - but I have the same problem.  Using iMac 27 inch 3.1 Ghz Lion 10.7.3 Parallels Desktop 7. All software updates are current.
    Also checked with run sysctl command and have VT-X supported.
    Within the windows environment I have software that checks for periodic errors.  It now shows a bios error "Consider upgrading your bios".  This message does not show on the actual WIN PC.  Both environments are identical, as I just migrated and have not made any changes to either the PC or the VM.
    Hope the additional info helps.

  • How to run a program as an administrator from within a non-elevated command prompt?

    I have a project that is going to be running on a kiosk, and the user that is running the kiosk software is going to be restricted.  I have an alternate administrator account, but I cannot seem to figure out how to open my program running as this administrator
    user.  I have tried to use runas, like so:
    runas /user:admin kiosk.exe
    However, when I try to run this command, it asks me for the password of the administrator account and my program doesn't open correctly.  It fails to open at all.  If I change the run as to a start command, then the program executes fine so its
    not a problem with my software.
    Is there a way to pass a password parameter to runas so that it will not prompt for the password every time?  If there is not, can someone think of another way for me to elevate my process to administrator without being logged in as one through the
    command prompt?

    Hi KevinGEAR,
    You want to allow the others without the administrator`s level to run this software and  meanwhile the administrator is not logged in, right?
    Here is an alternative solution :
    1.To work with this solution, a built-in administrator account should be enabled and meanwhile you can create a standard account. The built-in administrator account is different from the administrator account you created.
    To enable built-in administrator account:

    2. Use the following code
    runas /user:ComputerName\Administrator /savecred "Full path to program's exe file"

  • Black Screen with Cursor (Tried most solutions)

    To save your time and mine, I’ve tried all options in “press f8” and “recovery disk”. Over the past 3 days, I read almost all threads, videos, articles, and official MS help containing any mention of this problem. I also applied many commands, created few
    “SystemRescue CDs” and “Kaspersky Rescue 10” on a usb drive. I follow instructions very well, and have never been stumped by a windows problem like this before. If someone solves this, you are a wizard!
    Nothing has worked so far, but I really want to figure this out and not ‘reinstall’. It appears to be a simple and popular problem: “Right after Win 7 boot Logo, I get black screen with white mouse cursor,
    no matter if I boot in safe mode, last good configuration, or normal startup”, but all the solutions that worked for most people are not working for me.
    TL;DR: (answers to any of the 7 questions in the end will help me out)
    Custom System: Win 7 64 bit (updated consistently), 4gb ram, Quad Core 2.66, 64GB SSD (Crucial M4) and 4 hard other drives. Only windows installations/updates have been installed onto the SSD, no other programs. Only 1 OS has ever been installed
    on this computer. Never dual booted.
    Mobo: Asus Maximus Formula. GPU: AMD HD7870LE
    2014-04-19
    I haven’t installed or downloaded any programs in the past 3 weeks, and did not notice anything unusual up until this incident.
    In the morning the computer went into hibernation because I was away, it couldn’t wake up (usually happens), so I turned off the power supply. Turned it back on, and computer resumed, I was concerned as it may have run out of hard drive space on my 64GB
    SSD (4GB free), but it booted fine.
    Later during the day, I decided to restart the computer, and as it booted up again, it went into “start up repair”. I let it run and restart, and it arrived at the dreaded Black screen with mouse cursor, of death, right before logon screen.
    Symptoms while on this black screen.
    Ctrl alt del doesn’t work, power off doesn’t work, cursor can move, pressing ‘shift’ many times doesn’t bring up the ‘sticky key’. No task manager.
    Hard drive is not loading anything, just idle.
    Computer falls asleep after 15 minutes or so, and can wake up back to this black screen, so it remembers my power settings
    Safe mode loads the drivers fine, but also gets stuck on the same ‘black screen with cursor’ forever
    I tried every option in the ‘advanced boot’, including ‘safe with command prompt, safe with networking, last known configuration, etc’
    Last known configuration, and all of the above, all boots to ‘black screen with cursor’, this means windows believed it booted fine the last time, so it remembered this configuration. That’s because all the drivers loaded without issue. While loading
    Safe Mode, I can see windows loading all the drivers ok.
    No restore or backups (I know, I do not deserve to live, lesson learned)
    I tried all applicable functions from the ‘recovery cd command prompt’, bcdedit, bootrec, diskpart, and still couldn’t get it to boot.
    Commands applied in Elevated Command Prompt from Installation DVD: (very careful with backups and overwriting)
    Diskpart -> list volume, tells me that 100mb is system reserved, the other 59GB has no label, and is a different partition
    Bootrec -> scanos, tells me that I have 0 windows installations, used fixboot, /fixmbr, /rebuildmbr, all successful. Mounting the drive later on RescueDisk’s TestDisk shows no problems with either partition.
    BCDedit: shows both boot manager and winloader to be on the same drive, and I referenced it with a typical BCDedit enum output, and nothing is out of place.
    I went into Regedit by typing “regedit” in command prompt in Win7 recovery cd, and confimed that ‘Shell=explorer.exe’ under:
    HKEY_local machine/software/microsoft/WindowsNT/Currentversion/winlogon.
    Sfc /scannow couldn’t run due to “Pending repairs/restart”
    So I used: SFC.EXE /scannow /offbootdir=c:\  /offwindir=c:\windows
    Which ran and repaired some errors the first time. I ran it more just to make sure, with restarts in between, it gave me
    Win resource protection did not find any integrity violations.
    So the system files appears to be fine and not corrupted.
    Bootrec /scanos does not detect any windows installations. “0 Windows installations identified”, yet “Diskpart -> Detail Disk” and bcdedit both detects the windows directory.
    From windows recovery disk:
    Startup Repair diagnosis: (Show Details)
    All tests completed successfully
    Boot status indicates that the OS booted successfully
    It seems that the system and the OS boots successfully, and windows believes it boots successfully (that’s why last know good configuration gives me the black screen also, and Win Startup Diagnosis all says it booted successfully”
    It’s the second before it enters into the logon screen, the black screen and movable cursor appears, and hangs here forever. What programs load during this step, and how can I find out this info? Is there a diagnosis tool that allows me to see the programs
    as they load during windows start up?
    Other attempts:
    Then I read it could be windows using “winresume.exe” instead of winloader.exe, since I have “hiberfil.sys” in C:\windows, so I backed it up and deleted it using SystemRescue.
    Another thread said “winevt” bad logs, in C:\windows\system32\winevt were causing this black screen, so I backed it up and deleted that also, and it still won’t boot.
    I plugged in the devices that were attached (just 1 ext hard drive, through a 10 port usb hub) that was connected while it went into hibernation on April 19th, and it didn’t help.
    The files on that disk and the file system is not corrupt; I tested it by taking it out and docking it on a usb Blax Duet, and my laptop did a scan disc, and it’s fine. The Sfc Scan also shows that it is ok.
    I also unplugged all the other sata drives, switched the SSD sata cable around to other sata ports to no prevail.
    So far I know:
    Very unlikely that it’s a virus problem, I haven’t installed or downloaded anything this month, scans from Kaspersky 10 rescue disk shows nothing, Farbar scan shows nothing. I also never install anything suspicious, like toolbars or junk. I scan regularily.
    Not a driver problem, since I haven’t changed or updated anything. I unplugged all devices, and starting in 640x480 mode also gives the black screen with cursor. Drivers all loaded fine while starting windows and safe mode
    Boot files are intact, windows system files are in the right place since windows actually boots into a shell? Both bootloader and boot manager show up in bcdedit enum scans
    Not due to system file corruption, since file integrity are confirmed ok by above CMD commands, and windows diagnostic tool, and testdisk.
    My questions:
    What could be the cause of this? I didn’t make any changes to BIOS, windows settings, perform any updates, suspicious activities, installations, or crashes, before this. The files on that disk and the file system are not corrupt either, I tested it by
    taking it out and docking it on a usb Blax Duet, and my laptop did a scan disc, and it’s fine.
    Which program (classpnp.sys? explorer.exe? winlogon.exe?) is being loaded right before “windows logon screen” that would cause it to hang with a black background and cursor?
    How can I find out this information? Is there a tool that can record all programs that are being loaded by windows at boot?
    I only have access to regedit, elevated command prompt, and I can change files through SystemRescue or Kaspersky recue, how can I get the computer to boot past that black screen with a mouse cursor? The answer seems so close.
    From the Rescue Disks, what could I really do to get past the black screen?
    Those who are computer technicians could tell me: If I take it to a computer shop or technician, what could they do in a situation like this aside from all of the above? Do they have some ‘next level’ access tools or are they just going to waste my time
    and tell me I have to reinstall?
    At the very worst, I will obviously reintall. On my 64gb SSD, I didn’t install any important softwares. All my important software installations are on a separate drive. However, will they still work if I did a ‘Inplace Upgrade’ install of windows? Does
    registry get wiped?

    Hi,
    Have you tried to take startup repair when booting with the rescue disk?
    Startup Repair
    And we'd better bring the PC to the vendors, then take an examination of the hardware health.
    How does the Bootrec /scanos show 0 installation identified? We may take a try with chkdsk from command line to check if there are any disk errors:
    Run Check Disk from a Command Line to Check for and fix Disk Errors
    Please also take a check if the system reserved partition is stay in health:

    Another shoot, please try to rebuild BCD:
    Use Bootrec.exe in the Windows RE to troubleshoot startup issues
    Regarding the repair install, detailed information please take a check with the article below:

    Did you read his post at all as it does not look like it.
    As to take it to a vendor "Custom System:"" Win 7 64 bit (updated consistently), 4gb ram, Quad Core 2.66, 64GB SSD (Crucial M4) and 4 hard other drives. Only windows installations/updates have been installed onto the SSD,

  • Want to reserve Windows 10 but don't see the icon on the taskbar possible solution

    One of my laptops did not show the get windows 10 in the taskbar and the required microsoft update KB3035583 was installed, this article gave the solution by running CMD as administrator and the command to run also how to save it on your computer.Article is found here - http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-win_upgrade/i-want-to-reserve-my-free-copy-of-windows-10-but-i/848b5cce-958b-49ae-a132-a999a883265b?auth=1 From the article:  1. Open Notepad 2. Copy the following text and paste it into Notepad: REG QUERY "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AppCompatFlags\UpgradeExperienceIndicators" /v UpgEx | findstr UpgExif "%errorlevel%" == "0" GOTO RunGWXreg add "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AppCompatFlags\Appraiser" /v UtcOnetimeSend /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /fschtasks /run /TN "\Microsoft\Windows\Application Experience\Microsoft Compatibility Appraiser" :CompatCheckRunningschtasks /query /TN "\Microsoft\Windows\Application Experience\Microsoft Compatibility Appraiser"schtasks /query /TN "\Microsoft\Windows\Application Experience\Microsoft Compatibility Appraiser" | findstr Readyif NOT "%errorlevel%" == "0" ping localhost >nul &goto :CompatCheckRunning:RunGWXschtasks /run /TN "\Microsoft\Windows\Setup\gwx\refreshgwxconfig" Click File, and then Save AsIn the File name box, change the file name to ReserveWin10.cmdThen click the dropdown next to Save as type, and select All files (*.*)Select the folder you would like to save the file to.  For this example, let’s choose to save the file to the C:/Temp folder.  Then click Save.  Open an elevated command prompt.  (From the Start screen or Start menu, type Command Prompt in the search box, and then in the list of results, right-click Command Prompt, and select Run as administrator.)Finally, run the file from the location you saved to in Step 6.  In this example, you would type the following in the Command Prompt window and hit Enter:C:/Temp/ReserveWin10.cmdThe Microsoft Compatibility Appraiser can take 10 – 30 minutes to run, during which the script will continuously provide status reports that it is running.  Please be patient. After this ran I had the get Windows 10 in the taskbar.

    Look on the Launchpad icon in your Dock. Or switch over to the Purchases side in App Store. If it's downloading it will take a while since Mountain Lion is over 4 GBs.

  • Does refreshing a report that includes Scope and Entity require elevated rights / permissions?

    This relates to the following thread:
    Why does refreshing a report in the EPM Add-In need to edit the Ownership Manager?
    Since I've received no responses on the above thread, I thought I might approach this from a different angle.
    If we have a report that includes both Scope and Entity, in SAP BPC 10 NW (801 SP03) / EPM Add-In 10.0 SP 16 Patch 1, does this require a user to have elevated permissions in order to refresh the report?  I ask because I have users who have rights to view reports, but they error out when they try to refresh a report's data, only where Scope and Entity are used in the report.  The tasks that error are:
    P0081
    Run Consolidation Tasks
    P0082
    View Ownership Manager
    P0083
    Edit Ownership Manager
    I do not understand why any of these should even be called by refreshing the report, as the user is simply "viewing" data that already exists in the environment.
    Can someone please shed some light on this or point me in the direction of how I can go about resolving this issue?
    Your help is greatly appreciated.
    Jeff

    Hi
    I am facing the same issue despiste the elevated app permission as per
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/office/jj822159.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396
    I still had the error 401
    the solution for me was
    Under list settings -> advanced settings update the Create and Edit access settings from "Create and edit all items"
    the add the user the right to add only ( no edit , no delete) .

  • Solution for AAM Updater Error : U44M1I210

    After getting Creative Cloud a couple of days ago then running into Updater Error U44M1l210 over and over and making the mistake of calling tech support (which was no help - "just reset it / download from the site" - even though resetting does nothing and the site doesn't have all the updates AAM does), I've finally got a working solution.
    Essentially it's a permissions issue. Not sure why it affects some and not others, but I was logged in as an administrator and it still failed to have permissions to update despite admin password entry.
    So, here's what you do. You need to open AAM and Update with superuser permissions.
    1. Open Terminal
    2. Copy and Paste the following, then hit enter:
    sudo "/Library/Application Support/Adobe/OOBE/PDApp/core/Adobe Application Manager.app/Contents/MacOS/PDApp"
    3. It will prompt you for your password, enter it.
    4. The Adobe Application Manager will open with sudo (elevated/superuser) permissions.
    5. Open one of your Creative Cloud programs.
    6. Go to Help>Update...
    7. The updater dialog will open. Update as normal, it will work this time.

    After multiple phone calls and emails to tech support about this issue I was hoping that this would solve the issue for me. I've tried command line fixes a few times now and like the others this one doesn't fix the issue for me.
    Still get:
    There was an error installing this update. Please quit and try again later. Error Code: U44M1I210
    I can install applications but can't update them (OSX 10.9). I guess I could delete and install each time there is an update, but major PITA.
    Unfortunately calling Adobe tech support is a very frustrating experience. I've had dropped calls, had to repeat my information every time (spelling out each letter of my email address with a word) and finally get offered the same solution that doesn't work.

  • Which solution is better for schedules task? Console application or windows service?

    I have a "MULTI-LEVEL" XML file that I will be getting on daily basis and I want to accomplish following tasks:
    1) I have to read and parse the "MULTI-LEVEL" XML data
    2) Then I have to set or create some kind of .net service (c#) that read the xml and parse the data once a day (daily)?
    3) Now I have SOAP service from other software where I want to feed this XML data to. The schedules service will compare the XML data with software data and update (or add) based on the comparision.
    For this task, I come to conclusion that there are 2 best ways to do this:
    1) Create a console application and use windows task scheduler to run it everyday
    2) Create a windows service that runs in the background
    Which is a better way (or reliable)  solution to do this task? Please advise

    There are several things to keep in mind when writing an app that is designed to run without a user logged in. One of the most common mistakes is requiring some sort of user input.  Since the task will run without user intervention you don't want
    any sort of calls to Console.ReadLine, MessageBox.Show, etc.  They will cause the task to freeze and eventually need to be terminated.  You also don't want to rely on any sort of desktop apps running since a user may or may not be logged on at the
    time.
    Also be aware that a task can be scheduled to run under any user context.  As such you either need to ensure it runs under an account with sufficient privileges or that your app needs no special privileges.  You mentioned you tried to run it from
    bin\debug but you most likely have your project under your Documents directory.  Only you would have permissions to that folder and therefore will run into issues if the task is run under a different context.  You also mentioned you put it in the
    C:\ but users don't have write privileges to that folder and therefore if you tried to write a file out it would fail. If you need to read/write files then you should pick a common location that all users have access to or at least the one that will run the
    scheduled task. Be aware that, by default, Task Scheduler will not run a task elevated. You need to check the option to run elevated when you configure the user to run the task under.
    One of the key things to ensure you do with a task is verify it is working properly as a normal app.  You should also ensure that you have good logging so that if it does fail you can trace down the failure more easily.  One common thing that people
    tend to do in console apps is put a try-catch around the main function and display a message if an unhandled exception occurs. This is going to cause problems in a task.  Simply log the exception and rethrow it so Task Scheduler will flag the run as a
    failure.
    If you still cannot figure out why your task is failing then please add some logging and then tell us what code is being run at the time and what the failure is.

  • Need solution for solving TIME_WAIT in TCP/IP ports in Windows Server 2008 Standard Service Pack 2

    In one of our windows machine( OS : Windows Server 2008 Standard (Service Pack 2)-32bit), we are facing TIME_WAIT in all the TCP/IP ports and it is not getting closed.

  • Solution: iTunes 10.5 using 100% CPU / Not backing up your iPhone.

    This solution has been documented on this forum by several people, but the solution is usually deep in multiple threads.  I really don't know who came up with it first, but it does indeed work.
    I had an issue with iTunes.exe, APSDaemon, and AppleMobileDeviceHelper.exe using 100% CPU per core.  (Showed as 25% in Task Manager.)
    I could not backup my iPhone and the CPU spike happened as soon as iTunes 10.5 was started on Windows 7 Home Premium x64.
    This solved it.
    Sounds stupid but works:
    1. Quit iTunes.
    2. Start an elevated command prompt (Start Menu -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Right Click "Command Prompt" -> "Run as Administrator")
    3. Once in the command prompt, type "netsh winsock reset" and hit ENTER.
    4. Reboot your machine.
    5. Restart iTunes.
    6. ???
    7. Profit!

    The netsh winsock reset resolved both the problem of AppleMobileDeviceService.exe using 100% of my CPU and the blank iTunes blank store issue.
    XP Pro user here that had gone through the detailed step-by-step process of uninstalling iTunes as described on the support page but both problems still existed.
    Glad I saw this. Thanks.
    Now on to :
          7. Profit!

  • How to make a vertical lift or elevator in a platform game

    I am creating a side scrolling platform game using the book "Flash Game University" by Gary Rosenzweig.
    My protagonist has an instance of "hero".
    My current issue is trying to create a lift or elevator to carry the player up or down. The lift is not covered in the book. My thoughts were that the lift constantly moved up and down at a pace determined by a timer. I cannot get my lift to move. I have created a movie clip called "lift" and made it exported for action script. I can make it act similar to a floor movie clip so that I can stand on it, but I cannot get the lift to move on the y axis.
    I tried creating a new function called lift() and using a for loop to count between 0 and 100 using a variable "i" and then make my lift move up 1 unit for each loopcycle. It didn't work.
    lift.y -= lift.y - 1;
    Does anyone have a better solution?
    Thanks,
    Alex

    Rob,
    This worked. Here is my current code ...
    var topIndex:Number = 20;
                        var bottomIndex:Number = 160;
                        var stepDistance:Number = 10;
                        var movingUp:Boolean = true;
    public function createLift()
                                            box = new Object();
                                            box.mc = gamelevel.box;
    public function moveMyLift():void
                                            // lift 01
                                            if (movingUp && box.mc.y > topIndex)
                                                      box.mc.y -= stepDistance;
                                            else
                                                      movingUp = false;
                                              if (!movingUp && box.mc.y < bottomIndex)
                                                      box.mc.y += stepDistance;
                                            else
                                                      movingUp = true;
                                            if (hero.mc.hitTestObject(box.mc))
                                                      hero.mc.y = box.mc.y;
    My lift works correctly. It moves up and down correctly and when I jump on it I stay moving on it. There are only 3 things that don't make sense.
    1. When I am on the elevator I cannot jump. If I am not on the elevator I can jump normally.
    2. When I touch any portion of the elevator, my character automatically repositions itself to stand on the elevator. It seems normal, but not something that should happen in my scenario. I only want to "climb" on the elevator if I touch the "top" of the elevator.
    3. If I add a second elevator, even with its own function, the timing of the elevator math appears to synch instead of work independently. Why? The two elevators synch their movement and timing. Also the first elevator stutters as the synching of the two elevators match thier movement and then moves in unison with the second elevator. Why are they not operating separately?
    Here is the code for the first and second elevator:
    private var box:Object;
    private var box02:Object;
    var topIndex:Number = 20;
    var bottomIndex:Number = 160;
    var stepDistance:Number = 10;
    var movingUp:Boolean = true;
    var topIndexLift02:Number = 1;
                        var bottomIndexLift02:Number = 100;
                        var stepDistanceLift02:Number = 4;
    public function createLift()
                                            box = new Object();
                                            box.mc = gamelevel.box;
                                            box02 = new Object();
                                            box02.mc = gamelevel.box02;
    public function moveMyLift():void
                                            // lift 01
                                            if (movingUp && box.mc.y > topIndex)
                                                      box.mc.y -= stepDistance;
                                            else
                                                      movingUp = false;
                                              if (!movingUp && box.mc.y < bottomIndex)
                                                      box.mc.y += stepDistance;
                                            else
                                                      movingUp = true;
                                            if (hero.mc.hitTestObject(box.mc))
                                                      hero.mc.y = box.mc.y;
                                  public function moveMyLift02():void
                                            // lift02
                                            if (movingUp && box02.mc.y > topIndexLift02)
                                                      box02.mc.y -= stepDistanceLift02;
                                            else
                                                      movingUp = false;
                                              if (!movingUp && box02.mc.y < bottomIndexLift02)
                                                      box02.mc.y += stepDistanceLift02;
                                            else
                                                      movingUp = true;
                                            if (hero.mc.hitTestObject(box02.mc))
                                                      hero.mc.y = box02.mc.y;
    public function gameLoop(event:Event)
                                            // get time difference
                                            if (lastTime == 0) lastTime = getTimer();
                                            var timeDiff:int = getTimer() - lastTime;
                                            lastTime += timeDiff;
                                            // only perform tasks if in play mode
                                            if (gameMode == "play")
                                                      moveCharacter(hero,timeDiff);
                                                      moveEnemies(timeDiff);
                                                      checkCollisions();
                                                      scrollWithHero();
                                                      createLift();
                                                      moveMyLift();
      moveMyLift02();
    Thank you,
    Alex

  • Has anyone heard of a solution to archive IM to a central store for comliance and E-Discovery?

    I am looking for a solution for non-jailbroken Apple devices.

    It is very strange. I've had folks look at me with the 'rolling eyeballs' when I said I never, ever put my phone in my pocket. I never put anything in my pocket(s), especially rear pockets. My overcoat has pockets on the inside which I do use when I don't need my purse. But, after having $600 stolen out of pocket once on a subway, and another time $180 while in an elevator, I just don't put anything other than a chapstick (doesn't leak) in my pockets. I keep my phone with my wallet in my purse. I never even had a cell til' I was nearly 40~so, I'm not 'addicted' to it, lol.
    I'd consider a refurb, I actually like the iPhone4 & 4S better than the iPhone5. I just don't want another contract, but, at least I have options. Thank you for all your help, and helping me chuckle about it! Perhaps I've subconsciously living out my own rebellion through my phone; yet again, it probably is smarter than I and is having a great time at my expense.
    I'll post back with the update & what Apple did/didn't do for me...oh the bliss~

  • An interesting solution to a common problem

    Alright, I'm sure most of you know about the creative headphone jack problem. I was recently hit by it myself, and in a fit of genious I found a good solution till one can get it repaired/returned.
    Hair elastics.
    I grabbed one of my mom's hair scrunchies and placed it around my micro so that it braced the headphone plug and the jack. If you use a thick enough hair tie then it will hold the jack in place and it won't move and change whatever it changes when it moves.
    This works best when the player is in a case. The micro's size works well for the scrunchies I have as well as my zcase which provides a better gripping surface for the scrunchie so it will not slip off as easily.
    These are just my observations using a black goodie hair scrunchie, a zen micro (blue), zcase, and a faulty jack.

    Thank you for the feedback. Adding to what stated, the posting about the wrong Caller ID issue with land line service was found and reviewed. I noticed Lena mentioned sending Bobs_711 a private message in reaching out to assist. In reading further, what was meant by elevating a trouble ticket is to take it to the next level in troubleshooting. We would confirm if the wrong Caller ID issue is with your wireless service and not causing the issue. I will be sending a private message to you to assist further.
