Apex 5 Page Designer Suggestion and Bug

Hi Apex Team,
I would like to make a suggestion and report a bug related to the Page Designer.
1. When editing the properties of an item on the Page Designer, there are two “CSS Classes” options, one under Appearance and another under Advanced (Show All options). My guess is they refer to the Item CSS Classes and HTML Form Element CSS Classes from the Component/Tree View; but this is not obvious for someone that comes new to Apex straight to the Page Designer. I would suggest renaming one of them with a more meaningful name to remove ambiguity.
2. On the same item’s property on the Page Designer, by going to the List of Values Icon (^) of the CSS Classes or Custom Attributes, after the popup window opens, by clicking twice on the Go (>) button, the results are quadruplicated, even worse by quickly clicking multiple times. This does not happen for the Format Mask popup window.

Hi Gerald,
Saving the pivot view as primary default report works fine. When you defined the pivot, did you save the setting as primary default settings (Actions > Save Report > Save As Default Report Settings, select primary)? Once you save, the report will display in pivot view when you come back to the page or reset the report. If there is still an issue, please let me know the reproducible steps.

Design Suggestion and tutorial

We have a need of transforming and loading data from our downstream archive database to a target database with a different schema. This database will be used for reporting purpose. I am thinking of using:
1. Warehouse builder
2. Or oracle streams with rules to transform data
I like warehouse builder but I don't understand it completely. Could you please suggest if this is the right thing to do?
Also, I am looking for a basic tutorial that doesn't involve GUI, is that possible to write something without GUI or GUI is preferrable to learn OWB?

But what's the advantage of using DataWarehouse Builder in comparision to writing our own SQLs to transform data? Writing SQLs seems to be more simpler.
Datawarehouse builder will also give you following advantages :
Audit logging - Number of rows extracted , transformed and loaded ( no of records updated ,deleted , inserted,merged,selected) for every SQL will be logged into a table
Error Handling - You dont have to write your own exception handling , it will catch and log exceptions for you in a table
Automating and Paralleling your load by using oracle process flow ( part of warehouse builder)
Impact and Lineage Analysis ( change in table structure or columns can give you details of impacted tables , sql's down the line )
Version Control of code
Data Modelling - Designing dimensions , facts ,cubes, etc..
many more....
Yes you can do nearly all the above using SQL but then its cumbersome and lenghty process.
When you use warehouse builder you write your SQL ( aka mappping) and it will take care of the things mentioned above.
Here are few things for your requirement -
How complex are your transformation and how much data you have to process and how many tables ?
If the transformations are not complex and very few tables then doing it using sql will the quickest thing.
If your transformations are really complex,lots of data and lots of tables, then its better to use CDC or Oracle streams to extract data and then use Warehouse builder to load it.
Check the OWB11gr2 it will do CDC for you on the source tables. Your extraction would easier and simpler.
Its all about easy maintance and common repository for your code.

File- New- General- Page Designs

Is there a location with an SQL script, listing of fields and
structure or something that sets up a DB and table to use with the
page design templates?
For example:
To use and modify the "UI: Search" page design.
Without opening the template and search through the HTML.
How do I find out what are all of the fields used? What's the
DB and table used?

You create your own page design templates and store them on
your local machine in a folder called templates in the root of your
site. The templates are accessible only for that site and will
update pages only on that site.
If you would like to use them on multiple sites, you must
copy them, in their templates folder to the root of each site you
want to use them in.
Your templates folder should also be cloaked so they don't
get posted on your actual web site. (not the end of the world, but
they really don't need to be there.)
So, it you want to use one of the ready made templates, open
it from within your defined site, then save it in the templates
folder of that site.
I may be misunderstanding your question, but there is no DB
or fields used in these, it is just html code, possibly with CSS
styling. Templates will have editable and non editable regions in
them but other than that are not much different than any other
regular page except that Dreamweaver recognizes their presence and
updates your template based pages when changes are made.
Does that help at all, or am I on the wrong track here?

I prepare chronologies in word, and i am trying to do the same in pages using tables and cells. But somtimes i need a cell to wrap onto the next page but I can't work out how to do it - any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

How to avoid error "HTP 404" when working with "Google Suggest" and Apex 3?

I am trying to implement the GOOGLE SUGGEST function in an APEX application (a sample of Google Suggest + APEX can be found in http://htmldb.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=22777:6:4312817919732414 or http://teradata.weizheng.net/2009/08/using-google-suggest-in-apex.html).
The release of APEX is 3.2.1 and of RDBMS is 9.2.0.8 (64 bits). They are installed on a SOLARIS 9 SPARC 64-bits server, where i have an EBS 11.5.9 application. So, i´m using RDBMS and Apache of EBS 11.5.9 to work with APEX 3.2.1.
I can see the list generated by javascript function when i type in P2_REPORT_SEARCH, but when i SELECT an item (pressing ENTER), i have got an "HTP 404 error". Looking in the logs in the apache, i have found this error:

Well, i tried to implement the solution "Google Suggest" in my APEX 3.2 application, but i´m having now an "HTTP 404 error" when i select an iten in the list buided by "google suggest".
Can anybody make a suggestion of how i could analize this error and fix it?

The mouse that came with my Mac does not have a right click feature. When I try to highlight and click, it just opens the link I don't want anymore. What I want to do is remove unwanted links from the top bar. For example, I no longer use GoodSearch or myEarthLink, but I can't delete them. There are also some links that never should have found their way up there, and I don't know how they ended up there, and I can't remove them either. I've read through a ton of questions and answers, and I can't find one that addresses the problem. With my Safari browser, all I have to do to remove an unwanted link is to click and drag it to the trash. It doesn't appear to work that way with Firefox, to my chagrin. I hope this better explains my question. Maybe that will give you a better insight into a solution.

IPhoto 5.0.4-Bookcover, page design and file titles

I am putting together my first iPhoto book and am about ready to send it in. I have made all my pages in Photoshop CS2 and Photoshop Elements. They are all 10 x 8 inches and I want to publish a book with 50 pages-all with one photo per page.
Cover-We do not want to use the Caption area as our cover picture has our caption built into our 10 x 8 format. Do I need to resize my picture before I download to iPhoto or will my 10 x 8 be resized at iPhoto to fit when it is placed in its spot? I do not want any other captioning in a separate box.
Title Page-The Folio theme shows two text boxes available for the title Page. If what I want is set in the 10 x 8 size with all text we want in the "photo", do we need to do anything special for that or will our page work?
Page Design-After looking at all the themes we thought Folio would work for us. We do not want a problem with the inside edges bleeding too far into the binding and cutting off part of our text or photos. Have we left enough to compensate for that by using the margins that we have? Is Folio the Theme that will give us the iffect we want?
I was cautioned by a friend that I should be wary of using page titles that have dashes and slashes etc. in them as those symbols may cause issues with file recoginition. Advised to start using the underscore and not use spaces, etc...
Is this something I should fix before I send to iPhoto?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. In regards to the Cover, even though you don't put any text into the Cover text box that area will just be blank on the cover. Your photo will not expand to cover the entire photo area.
The same holds true for the photo layout. The text boxes will be blank but the photos will not expand greater than the frame that's provided for the photo. Regarding size, it's recommended that the photos be in the 4:3 ratio for best fit into the frames provided on the pages. You can try the 8x10 and see if any gets cut off by the difference in size ratio.
Regarding text, if you're putting your text into the jpg files for inclusion they the use of special characters should not be an issue. It's only when you use them in the title boxes.
Before you order I suggest you go thru the order process but stop after the book has been assembled. Then follow these steps to find and copy the pdf file that iPhoto creates for uploading and printing. You can check the pdf file for placement, bleed, etc. On the large books that I ordered that pdf file had the layout marks included.
How to Find the iPhoto Generated PDF File:
1 - Start the ordering process and stop after the book has been assembled and you get to the Order pane where you select the cover color, copies, etc.
2 - Go to the Finder and select the Go->Go to Folder menu item (CommandShiftG).
3 - copy the following, “/private/var/tmp/folders.501/TemporaryItems/iPhoto” (for Panther the path is ‘/private/tmp/501/TemporaryItems/iPhoto“), and paste into the Go to Folder search box.
4 - the iPhoto folder will be brought up. In it will be the PDF file that was generated by iPhoto. You can copy it (Option-drag) to the Desktop to review and/or save.
Note: the iPhoto folder will not exist before you start the ordering process and is deleted after the order is completed or after you cancel the order and quit iPhoto.

Multi page report in design view and page breaks

Hey,
I have designed a report that spans more then a single 8X11 page in design view. The report has one parent frame and 2 child frames. The parent data prints first and then there is a page break before each child's data. The trouble I am having is that where the report is designed over 2 pages in design view the first child's data prints on the 3rd page because of the page break, and then if there is another child it will start to print on the 5th page, etc. Another problem is with the actual page numbering and that page 1 according to the print out actually is 2 pages because of the 2 page design view. I am looking for a way to design a report on 2 pages in design view but have it to print on only 1 page per parent and child depending on how much data there is. If I could fit all of the data elements on a single page in design view it would be easy, but using 2 pages is making it difficult.
Does this make sense? Any suggestions?

Try doing the page break by setting the Page Protect property to Yes, not by Page Break before/after.

Page designer show small view when using page template and cannot be run

Dear Experts,
I need to make some page templates.
I have build 2 simple page templates, let say template0 & template1 which template1 using template0.
It show no any problem until I close my Jdeveloper & reopen it.
When I reopen template1, it show so small in designer (Jdeveloper window).
Is there any wrong?
I have build another template, just 1 template.
When I used it at the first time, no any strange behavior occur.
After ... (I don't exactly when), it give me the same view in my designer.
Then I force to use my first tempate (template1 which used template0 inside), I cannot run my application at all.
After wait several minutes, I found error log in my log messages.

Above the message, I found another error messages:

As I put in my post before, I include template0 in my template1, as seen in template1 (AHM001):

I use AHM000 inside AHM001. I use this approach to build many template based on one basic design.
Actually, I don't think the problem is in page template usage because as I submitted paralel to Metalink, I've already not called template0 in template1 but I copy template0's contents to template1.
Unfortunately, page designer show small view and below error messages still occured.

Start with Try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file delete the contents the following folder:
User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto/
Data/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: For Mavericks, 10.9, go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:
where you can check the Show Library Folder checkbox.
If that doesn't help continue with:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - Run Option #4, Rebuild Database.

Sharepoint 2007 designer - sqldatasource and grid view not displaying on SP page (An unexpected error has occured)

Hi All,
I am using sharepoint designer 2007 and am trying to use a sqldatasource to populate a gridview and then display that on an .aspx page. While in designer everything seems to configure okay. I am able to test the connection and display the data
as expected from the sqldatasource within designer. Then I have the gridview control use the sqldatasource. At that point the grid (within designer) displays the headings as expected. The data that is displayed in the cells is "test data" rather
than actual data value - I'm not sure if this is normal - for example, the data values in every column / row are all equal to 'abc'. Date values are all equal to current date.
Then when I actually display the sharepoint page (via Preview in browser)  I get an error "An unexpected error has occurred".
I am using SQLExpress on my laptop as the database for the sqldatasource. I have tried both integrated (windows) and SQL authentication with the same results.

I am unable to connect to my SQL EXPRESS db on my laptop via SPD 2007: I get the error -
I am able to access that database via SQL Server Mgmt. Studio (both with Windows and SQL Server authentication). I can also access a SQL Express database on a remote server from the exact same SPD 2007 session: I get -
So, I wonder why I can connect to the remote but not the local? Anyway, if you have any ideas I would appreciate it. I am willing to do the work from the article you mention but wanted to rule out there being a simple DB access issue first. I'll also
start to find the ULS logs and review them.

Update on 1-3-14: Hi, since yesterday I also have been able to connect to the SQLEXPRESS database / table and display the .aspx page with the gridview in Visual Studio 2010.
Update 1-26-14: Sorry for the delayed response. I determined the reason why I could not connect to the SQLEXPRESS instance on my laptop was that there was a local host intrusion (firewall) rule on my machine that prevented an inbound connection
on port 1433. SharePoint server >>> inbound connect on port: 1433 >>> to Laptop device, not allowed.

I need to design a 2 page brochure (front and back) in photoshop, how to start ?
I need to create this brochure for high quality printing, so what things I need to make sure ?
Also I need to know how to create it with bleed space or without bleed space ?

There is no requiremend for bleed size etc (I just wanna know how to create copy with or without bleed at any time and where to mention the size of bleed). The format is PDF, 300dpi.

You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.<br />
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.<br />

I have tried to copy and paste of an element BUT it does not seem to work in the web page design??

Hi;
The copy and paste keyboard commands in the app are controlled by Flash Player, sometimes there are issues with a browser/OS combination, make sure that Flash Player is up to date and if that doesn't help try another web browser.
