API compatibility
Question for both player developers and plug-in developers:
Looking into the future beyond OSMF 1.0, what are your expectations for backward compatibility with the APIs from one version of OSMF to the next?
As development progresses from version 0.1 up to 1.0, the customer feedback we've been getting has been great, and it's directly influenced some our choices on features and design, and consequently the APIs. We plan to use the moniker "version 1.0" to signal that the APIs are set and that we'll support them for some period of time. How long after 1.0 do you need those APIs to keep working? Can the 1.0 APIs change for 2.0, or do they need to continue to work in 2.0? How about 3.0?
Given how fast things move with online video and related services, it would make development of future versions of the framework much easier if we can place less of an emphasis on enduring backward compatibility. The challenge is finding the right balance between a blank slate and permanent backwards compatibility.
Any thoughts are appreciated!
Sumner Paine, product manager
I would expect backwards compatibility for anything that is developed for the same FlashPlayer version.
If OSMF 3.0 comes out while FlashPlayer 10.1 is still the current version of the player, I would expect backwards compatibility.
I would only accept/understand backwards compatibility breaking if new features of the FlashPlayer exists which the new version of OSMF needs to take into account.

Adobe API compatibility question
Hi,
We have written a custom application that uses Adobe objects like AcroExch.App, AcroExch.PDDoc, Acrobat.CAcroApp, Acrobat.CAcroPDDoc for acessing/generating PDF documents using Adobe Standard 9 version.
We are in the process of upgrading Adobe version to Standard 10 or Professional 10.
We would like to understand, after the Adobe upgrade, would there be any impact to our program that uses the above Adobe objects.Are these Adobe objects / API is compatible with any later version from Standard 9. Please advise.
Thanks,
AshokShould be no change.

Empty Weblogic Server 8.1 SP1 Repeating Stack Trace
Thanks in advance for any help and attention!
An instance of Weblogic 8.1 SP1 on our UAT environment keeps on spitting out stack traces even though the only user accessing WL is via the admin console. There are no applications deployed on this platform.
The stack trace is also intermittent and can't be attributed to a specific action. This is occuring on our UAT environment and on a WL install which is a copy of our production environment. But we don't get these stack traces on production??
Here are some details of the server hosting WL 8.1 SP1 in our UAT environment.
Operating System/Hardware:
Solaris VM (build Solaris_JDK_1.2.2_10, native threads, sunwjit)
Operating System SunOS abcu012-ukzr 5.8 Generic_108528-23
sun4u sparc SUNW,Sun-Fire-V210
JVM Used by WebLogic:
Weblogic JVM Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment,
Standard Edition (build 1.4.2-b28)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.4.2-b28, mixed mode)
I have listed the full stack trace and config.xml below...

What about Red Hat 7.2 ?
I do not understand very well if this version has anything to do with the
ones mentioned on supported platforms

Campot,
Unfortunately WLS 8.1 sp1 is not supported on RedHat 7.1
http://e-docs.bea.com/wls/certifications/certs_810/overview.html#1043408
should provide you more information on this.

POST http(s) request with xml content in Power Query
I have a POST http request which works good in HttpRequester (Firefox plugin). I know that it is possible to call POST request in Power Query but cannot find working solution. Here is the original request:
POST https://svcs.ebay.com/FeedbackService
X-EBAY-SOA-OPERATION-NAME: createDSRSummaryByPeriod
X-EBAY-SOA-SERVICE-VERSION: 1.0.0
X-EBAY-SOA-SERVICE-NAME: FeedbackService
X-EBAY-SOA-APP-NAME: ***
X-EBAY-SOA-SITEID: 0
X-EBAY-SOA-SECURITY-TOKEN: ***
Content-Type: text/xml
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<createDSRSummaryByPeriodRequest xmlns="http://www.ebay.com/marketplace/services">
<dateRange>
<dateFrom>2013-12-01T00:00:00.000Z</dateFrom>
<dateTo>2013-12-31T23:59:59.999Z</dateTo>
</dateRange>
<dateRangeEventType>ListingDate</dateRangeEventType>
</createDSRSummaryByPeriodRequest>
Power Query WebContent() function is capable to handle headers and xml content, however, there is no any documentation about its syntax.
In Power Query I use this request:
= Xml.Tables(Web.Contents(“https://svcs.ebay.com/FeedbackService”,
[Headers =[" X-EBAY-SOA-OPERATION-NAME"= "createDSRSummaryByPeriod",
"X-EBAY-SOA-SERVICE-VERSION="1.0.0",
"X-EBAY-SOA-SERVICE-NAME"="FeedbackService",
"X-EBAY-SOA-APP-NAME"="***","X-EBAY-SOA-SITEID"="0",
"X-EBAY-SOA-SECURITY-TOKEN"="***"],
Content=["<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<createDSRSummaryByPeriodRequest xmlns="http://www.ebay.com/marketplace/services">
<dateRange>
<dateFrom>2013-12-01T00:00:00.000Z</dateFrom>
<dateTo>2013-12-31T23:59:59.999Z</dateTo>
</dateRange>
<dateRangeEventType>ListingDate</dateRangeEventType>
</createDSRSummaryByPeriodRequest>"]]))
However, it returns "Expression.SyntaxError: Invalid identifier." Maybe anyone has at least examples of analogous working syntax?Task is solved. First of all I updated PowerQuery since previous version does not support Headers option for Web.Contents function. Here is a correct syntax:
=Xml.Document(Web.Contents("https://api.ebay.com/ws/api.dll",[Headers=[#"X-EBAY-API-COMPATIBILITY-LEVEL"= "871",#"X-EBAY-API-SITEID"="0",#"X-EBAY-API-CALL-NAME"="GetMyeBaySelling",#"CONTENT-TYPE"="text/xml"], Content=Text.ToBinary("<?xml version="&Character.FromNumber(34)&"1.0"&Character.FromNumber(34)&" encoding="&Character.FromNumber(34)&"utf-8"&Character.FromNumber(34)&"?>
<GetMyeBaySellingRequest xmlns="&Character.FromNumber(34)&"urn:ebay:apis:eBLBaseComponents"&Character.FromNumber(34)&">
<RequesterCredentials><eBayAuthToken>***</eBayAuthToken></RequesterCredentials><SoldList><DurationInDays>60</DurationInDays><Pagination><EntriesPerPage>100</EntriesPerPage><PageNumber>1</PageNumber></Pagination></SoldList></GetMyeBaySellingRequest>")])) -
CD4 and CS5 Plugin Issue!
Having a major problem with Chameleon and CS4 and CS5. When I run the program out of CS4 or CS5:
1) The Grab Fragment seems to work.
2) When I open another photo and run Chameleon , Make Collage, I get
1. Unhandled exception! Crash dump saved to c:\users\public\documents\akvis\crashdump.
Please help! I’m running version 6.0.1253.3084-r
I now get a message stating:
Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library Error.
App terminated in an Unusual way.
Contact app support.
I used to run Chameleon in CS4 however now it does not run at all. I'm wondering if a Visual C file got corrupted or a fix is needed for Adobe.
Please help.
Thanks,
RudyWithout knowing exactly what the bug is in the Akvis code, I don't know.
But some third party plugins always need an update when new versions of Photoshop are released (especially those that try to modify Photoshop's UI).
We work hard to maintain plugin API compatibility, and most plugins work just fine in new versions, but there are always some problems to work out in third party plugin code.
(Macintosh plugins are going through a lot of problems in CS5 because we had to change the UI toolkit used, and many assumptions made by plugin UI code no longer hold) -

Bridge on a windows 8.1 hi DPI display (3200x1800), can I scale the UI?
Hello, lightroom seems to be fine scaling the UI on my hidpi laptop display, however Bridge is essentially unusable sadly. Hopefully I just have not found the setting? Can anyone help?
I have this issue too. Windows 8.1, and my new monitor is a Dell UP2414Q, which is 3840 x 2160 on only a 23.8" monitor so it's a very very tight pixel pitch / small pixel size. This makes the problem quite severe -- I find Bridge essentially impossible to use in this condition. Scaling through Windows settings does not help with this product, just as it does not help with Photoshop. Oddly, Lightroom does not have the problem. Apparently the Lightroom team took a different programming strategy from the beginning and did not run into some of the Windows API compatibility issues that Photoshop and Bridge did.
Over in the Photoshop community forum, users have been complaining bitterly about this for over a year. Fixes are forthcoming but it's been a very long time. The temporary fix in Photoshop is to go into Experimental Settings and check the box for a simple, on-or-off, 200% scaling of the user interface. There is no range of choice, only the 200% option or nothing. And this temporary workaround has a pretty major side effect: PS tool windows that you put on other (lower DPI) monitors will be huge. I
Unfortunately Bridge does not seem to have received the same temporary workaround. I cannot use it until this is solved.
4K displays are accelerating in sales very rapidly... Adobe will be facing a mass exodus of CC users if more heat is not applied to the scaling issues. It doesn't matter if the ultimate fault rests with Microsoft and Windows. The majority of software companies have managed to get their apps out for Windows 8 and 8.1 without crippling hi-DPI usage. -
Implementation of the hasProperties() method of the Node class
The following snippet of code prints:
false
true
which seems to be a bug.
TextField nameField = new TextField();
System.out.println(nameField.hasProperties());
ObservableMap<Object, Object> props = nameField.getProperties();
System.out.println(nameField.hasProperties());The implementation of the hasProperties() method in the Node class returns true, if the ObservableMap object for storing properties has been created. That is not what is expected from this method. I think, this method should also check if the ObservableMap has any properties.
Can someone confirm that it is a bug?
Thanks
KishoriYou can log it at http://javafx-jira.kenai.com and then, if the developers want to keep it the way it is (which they may for API compatibility purposes), they can at least document it so that a user would know what to expect without writing a test or making a potentially invalid assumption.

That said, I would attempt upgrading your pthread libraries, appearing as though there is nothing in Java that is going wrong. That doesn't mean unfortunately that this is the source of wrongdoing, but it couldn't hurt to eliminate.
I know there is libpthread-0.10.so out there, so there should be /some/ update to it. Reply if you need specifics. -
Strange Crashes in VS2013: Release Mode Only
Help! I'm getting weird crashes on Release configurations while building for WPhone 8.1. They don't show up on Debug configurations at all. The crash is always the same:
An unhandled exception of type 'System.ExecutionEngineException' occurred in XYZ.NI.DLL
Funny thing is, XYZ.dll is sometimes Assembly-CSharp, sometime's it's System.Core; basically all over the place, but it also happens to crash at one specific point in the game (during a tutorial step). I thought at first it might be something to do with memory,
but I'm running the game on a Lumia 830, which has 1GB RAM, and I checked in the profiler: the game is using around 200mb. WP8.1 Emulator doesn't crash either.
When I build the same project using Windows Phone 8 platform, I don't get the crash.
Other (maybe) relevant build settings:
Api Compatibility Settings: 2.0
Compilation Overrides: NoneSystem.ExecutionEngineException means that the CLR crashed from the inside. I don't think this can be caused by using unavailable APIs, more than likely there's something wrong with the compiled assemblies (or the plugins). Chances are, we produce buggy
metadata when building the player in some weird edge case and you're hitting it. It could also be a bug in the CLR. If you submitted a bug, we'd be happy to look into it.
As for why it doesn't happen on Windows: Windows and Windows Phone run a little different flavour of CLR, even though if they're sharing the base class library. This specific crash might be specific to the Windows Phone variant. -

So there is no way I can write code and test run it on an actual iPhone device without being accepted into that program? -
Set token attribute to HTTP(s) request header
Hi,
in order to meet security requirements we need to put a token attribute to the HTTP(s) requests header. The data connection is setup as "WSDL data connection".
How can we set this header information in Adobe Designer by scripting that Adobe Reader (with ARES) includes the token to the HTTP(s) header request?
Many thanks for your help,

Compatibility of events API with Latest JPI1.4
Hi,
We have a Java applet written with mostly Jdk1.0 ... which works fine with
native JVM's of netscape 4.75 and IE5.5 browsers.
But when I use latest JPI1.4 and above, I find the conetent on the screen is not fully coming up unless the mouse move is done on that .
When I build/compile it, I get the following warnings
Can someone suggest is this deprecated API's that is causing the problems when we execute applets with the latest JPI.
What can be the workaround ???

Essbase api and VB 6 compatibility
We have a VB v6 application that has various essbase security api calls (add users, change groups, etc) and also has dao calls. We are getting a GPF performing a createworkspace (ex Set myws = DBEngine.CreateWorkspace (Name:="Myspace", User:="John"...). Only some of the createworkspace commands cause the error. Has anyone experienced any similar errors. Thanks
It turns out that the method EsbGetGroup does not work correctly in new Essbase 11.12. In stead I used EsbGetUserEX and all woks OK.
