App Error 602 & "Uncaught exception: Application net_rim_bb_messaging_app(144) is not responding; process terminated"

Hi,
I have spent a whole and very frustrating day trying to solve the following problem and in exasperation I resort to a posting here. Note no changes had been made to the phone prior to the start of the problem.
My Blackberry 9800 Torch freezes on power-up. It can only be ‘unfrozen’ by taking out the battery or, if left alone, after many minutes it comes up with the white screen, ‘App Error 602' and ‘Reset’ which is highlighted. Resetting has the same effect as taking out the battery. After each restart, it goes through the usual security and time checks and then freezes again. However, on rare occasions I got the message “Uncaught exception: Application net_rim_bb_messaging_app(144) is not responding; process terminated”.
Soon after the restart, after the Security Software Verification and on confirming the time/date, there is a very small window of opportunity (literally a couple of seconds) to access the phone. After much trial and error, I discovered that (in Manage Connections) by disabling the Mobile Network and WiFi - effectively putting it into ‘aeroplane mode’ - the device would work, without any problem and indefinitely. Except, of course, I couldn’t access the phone network nor the internet, which isn’t helpful(!).
I have taken this opportunity to do a full back-up on to my PC, through BlackBerry Desktop Software (though I’m not sure this backs up downloaded Apps??). Separately, I've also copied all the subdirectories from the phone’s memory and media card on to the PC, retaining their correct structures (but presumably also copying the corruption causing the problem?).
Any ideas???
- thanks in advance!

The method you are attempting is the automatic method...sometimes it just doesn't work, and you must take control. The simplest way is to, on a PC (you cannot do this on MAC):
1) Make sure you have a current and complete backup of your BB...you can find complete instructions via the link in my auto-sig below.
2) Uninstall, from your PC, any BB OS packages
3) Make sure you have the BB Desktop Software already installed
http://us.blackberry.com/software/desktop.html
4) Download and install, to your PC, the BB OS package you desire:
http://us.blackberry.com/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
It is sorted first by carrier -- so if all you want are the OS levels your carrier supports, your search will be quick. However, some carriers are much slower than others to release updates. To truly seek out the most up-to-date OS package for your BB, you must dig through and find all carriers that support your specific model BB, and then compare the OS levels that they support.
5) Delete, on your PC, all copies of VENDOR.XML...there will be at least one, and perhaps 2, and they will be located in or similarly to (it changes based on your Windows version) these folders:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader
C:\Users\(your Windows UserName)\AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML
6a) For changing your installed BB OS level (upgrade or downgrade), you can launch the Desktop Software and connect your BB...the software should offer you the OS package you installed to your PC.
6b) Or, for reloading your currently installed BB OS level as well as for changing it, bypass the Desktop Software and use LOADER.EXE directly, by proceeding to step 2 in this process:
http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/BlackBerry-Device-Software/How-To-Reload-Your-Operating-Syste...
Note that while written for "reload" and the Storm, it can be used to upgrade, downgrade, or reload any BB device model -- it all depends on the OS package you download and install to your PC.
If, during the processes of 6a or 6b, your BB presents a "507" error, simply unplug the USB cord from the BB and re-insert it...don't do anything else...this should allow the install to continue.
If you are on MAC, you are limited to only your carriers sanctioned OS packages...but can still use any levels that they currently sanction. See this procedure:

    Hi there!
There's pretty much no diagnosing those -- they are the equivalent of the random errors in Windows for which tracing the root cause is fruitless. Basically, these are the last out in the programming code -- some event occurred for which there is no handler in the code. The fix is a code update that handles the event...but, again, knowing what the event is is pretty much impossible. So, there are a few things to try:
Sometimes, the code simply becomes corrupt and needs to be refreshed -- just like a reboot:
Anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness creeps in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.
There might be an updated code set from the carrier -- check them via this portal:

Hoping to get some help here!  I keep getting notes like this and can no longer access my e-mail or text using my blackberry.  Tech services suggested that I use the desktop software to update my device and the software is not able to successfully communicate with my device.  Let me know if anyone has any suggestions.

The toughest possible cause is a badly behaving app. To find it, there are a couple of options. One is to see if you can read the log file:
Go to the home screen. Hold down the "alt" key and type 'lglg'. (You will not see anything while you type). This will bring up the log file. Scroll down (probably many pages) untill you see a line that says 'uncaught execption'. Click on this line. The name of the app will be in the info. Alternative methods for bringing up the logs are in this KB:
KB05349How to enable, access, and extract the event logs on a BlackBerry smartphone
The other method is to remove apps one at a time, waiting a while in between (I usually recommend a week), until the problem ceases...thereby discovering the offending app. Still another method is to reload the BB OS cleanly, leaving some time between adding other apps onto the BB so as to be able to determine exactly which one is the cause.
A Clean OS reload may also be in order (as opposed to the automated update you are attempting):
At the top of each device forum, there should be some "sticky" threads that discuss the OS levels available for many models. If they include your model, then please use those as reference as you proceed. Otherwise, you will have to dig through the official download portal for OS packages for your model:
    http://us.blackberry.com/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
From a PC, you can install any compatible (e.g., for your exact BB Model Number) OS package to a BB via this procedure:
    http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/BlackBerry-Device-Software/How-To-Reload-Your-Operating-Syste...
Note that while written for "reload" and the Storm, it can be used to upgrade, downgrade, or reload any BB device model -- it all depends on the OS package you download and install to your PC. If that OS package is from a carrier other than the carrier for which your BB was originally manufactured, then delete, on your PC, all copies of VENDOR.XML...there will be at least one, and perhaps 2, and they will be located in or similarly to (it changes based on your Windows version) these folders:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader
    C:\Users\(your Windows UserName)\AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML
Be sure that you remove, from your PC, any other BB device OS packages as having more than one installed to the PC can cause conflicts with this procedure.
You may also want to investigate the use of BBSAK (bbsak.org) to perform the wipe it is capable of.
You may also want to try this procedure to perhaps narrow down the precise causal item:
Load your OS "bare bones"...if anything is optional, do not install it.
If the behavior presents immediately, then try a different OS with step 1
If the behavior does not immediately present, then run for as long as it takes for you to be sure that the behavior will not present.
Add one thing -- no matter how tempting, just one.
If the behavior does not present immediately, then again run for long enough to be sure it will not have the same problem
Repeat steps 4 and 5 until all things are loaded or the behavior presents
When the behavior presents, you know the culprit...the last thing you loaded.
If the behavior does not re-present, then you know that either step 1 or 2 cured it.
If the behavior presents no matter what, then you likely have a hardware level issue for which no amount of OS or software can cure.
If you are on MAC, you are limited to only your carriers sanctioned OS packages...but can still use any levels that they currently sanction. See this procedure:

  • Uncaught exception: Application net_rim_bb_phone_app (59) is not responding; process terminated

    Hello:
So, this is the error message that won't go away:
Uncaught exception: Application net_rim_bb_phone_app (59) is not responding; process terminated
In the 18 months that I've been attempting to use my BlackBerry Storm 1, it appears every few days.
Between that and the status icon that spins for minutes on end, I find that the smartphone that I should love is the device that I utterly dread trying to use.
From January 2009 to December 2009, I was calling Verizon for support two to three times a month.  From calling *228 to updating the software, nothing has made my Storm something I can count on.  After the December calls to support, I pretty much gave up.
The entire time I've been typing this very post, the status icon has been spinning (after pressing OK to the uncaught exception error message).
Any thoughts on what might resolve the error message and/or minimize the status icon spinning are greatly appreciated.  Removing the battery seems to be the only "solution".  But, if that's a solution, i wish I'd known what i was in for before investing in this device.
I hope your experience is better!
    -Warren

    Hello !
    Try the following:
Simply delete all the  Messenger apps (Yahoo, MSN or Live) which you might have upgraded recently / delete apps which were recently installed before the error which actually started occuring .
After that unplug the battery while the phone is still "on" and restart the phone.
In fact I had deleted a whole bunch of apps to facilitate my OS upgrade as I did not have enough memory on my Device.
This not only helped solve my above mentioned problem but also made my phone restart in less than 3 minutes (the earlier reboot was done in not less than 15  minutes !!).
Therefore my conclusion as from the above incidents is to keep your apps in the bare minimum so that your phone performs to the best.
    Hope this resolves your Problem!

    Hi!!
I have some troubles in my device, Storm 9550.
I can't receive and reply messages (SMS, BBM, and email) and also have difficulties in accessing Twitter and Facebook.
I've tried to put the battery out of the device for times, but it doesn't work at all.
I got this on my device : "Uncaught exception; index 19 >= 19"
I click OK, and then I got this : "Uncaught exception: Application net_rim_bb_messaging_app(88) is not respponding; process terminated"
What should I do to fix those problems??
    Thank's before..

Please reboot the phone once more by removing the battery and putting it back then go to Messages, press Menu, then choose Options, Inbox Management and untick the email from being shown on the inbox. If you will do this, you can have a separate icon for email. If this doesn't work, please also remove the facebook and twitter message intrgration by going to their respective Options. DOn't forget to reboot the phone again after this.

    Hi shalala,
Welcome to BlackBerry Support Community Forums.
Try backing up your device via the BlackBerry Desktop Software and performing a clean reload of your device software. http://bbry.lv/bpv7DT
Make sure to test for the error message before restoring any data from your backup file.
You may want to restore essential data only. http://bbry.lv/bhaArf If you synchronize your organizer data, you may want to sync your data back onto the BlackBerry rather than restoring from a backup file.

This will work! After doing research you have to delete programs like yahoo messenger and Windows live OFF your phone. They interfere with the address book (Uncaught Exceptions is a program term that comes up when problems arrive). Anything else you don't use or that's not supported by your version needs to go to e.g. Font applications etc. After un-installing these reboot your phone and their you have, no more exceptions. Especially delete yahoo messenger and windows live or else this will not work. I am confident this works bc I just did this, so your welcome in advance. Have a good one

Sounds like you need to wipe the entire device OS clean and load the operating system fresh.
You will need to use BBSAK or JL_Cmder to wipe the device and subsequently load the OS to the device. Follow the instructions here:
    http://www.blackberryfaq.com/index.php/How_do_I_wipe_the_BlackBerry_using_Jl_Cmder%3F
For BBSAK, here is the link: http://bbsak.org/

First try a battery pull.  With your phone powered on, remove your battery then replace it.  If that doesn't work, reloading your OS probably will.  Let us know if you need help with that.
I hope I've been helpful to you.

    Hi all,
Guess what ....finally managed to solve this headache.
Simply delete all the apps which you might have upgraded recently / delete apps which were recently installed before the error which actually started occuring. After that unplug the battery while the phone is still "on" and restart the phone.
In fact I had deleted a whole bunch of apps to facilitate my OS upgrade as I did not have enough memory on my instrument.  This not only helped solve my above mentioned problem but also made my phone restart in less than 3 minutes (the earlier reboot was done in not less than 15  minutes !!).
Therfore my conclusion as from the above incidents is to keep your apps in the bare minimum so that ur phone performs to the best.
P.S : While checking for solutions for the problems, i had seen a lot of similar problems and stongly think these kinds of problems are why BB is and will loose their strog holds in countries even like US and Canada. No one would even think of having a phone which cannot add contacts to their phone book.  So BB really needs to work on the Faulty Apps on the app world so that atleast the exsisting customers are not wooed by Android and I Phones.

    hello all,
i'm having issues with the above error when trying to stream audio (*.m3u) over the cellular network. everything works just fine when connceted to a wifi network.
I have full 3G reception and even youtube works fine without wifi. problem occurs on a bold 9780 with os 6.0.0.359 on a german cellular network. I didn't use to run into this issue with my old bold 9000.
    are there any suggestions?
    cheers

    Hey JohnWayne_,
This sounds like a software issue. Try backing up your device then reload the software: http://bbry.lv/cKy9A0 Once the software reload is complete test before restoring any data to see if you have the same issue.
