Appears different in Netscape vs. Firefox vs. Safari

Does anyone have any idea of how to lock in the design so nothing moved around and the font stays the same. I have created a website and viewed it under Netscape, Firefox and Safari and my background boxes have moved slightly and my font changes depending on what source I use. Anyone got any ideas?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. For fonts change them to a image file by applying a drop shadow to them with the Fonts pane and set the three sliders associated with the shadow effect to the far left. If you have iWeb's Text preferences checkbox, "Show text imaging indicator" selected when the text is converted to an image an icon will be displayed at the edge of the text box like this:
That will let the text show the same for all browsers.

  • Timeline Slideshow appears in IE but not Firefox or Safari

I have created a looped slideshow displaying 4 photos every 3
seconds. I created a Timeline called 'slide' that is using:
    <! <body onload="MM_timelinePlay('slide')">
    <! <div id="slide"><img
    src="images/tpl/10_Hpim0498.jpg" name="Image1" width="846"
    height="134" /></div>
However, it appears Firefox and Safari do not know how to
handle the Slideshow transition from Image 10_hpim0489.jpg to the
    next 3 jpg's.
    http://www.desertphreak.com/tpl33.htm
What do I need to do to have Firefox and Safari interpret my
    slideshow correctly?
Thanks in advance for any help!

The timeline code is quite antique (and slated for removal in
    the next
version of DW). In its current state (written when NN4x was
    an infant),
there are browser compatability issues. I would not recommend
    you continue
    with it.
You'd be much better off finding and using an image rotation
    script on the
web - heck, CS3 even has one in its snippets you can use.
And if you want to go first class, check the
    ImageGalleryMagic, or
    SlideShowMagic extensions at PVII -

  • Playback appears different in IE and Firefox, WHY?

    Hi,
I have been working on a web site that I have just recently
tested and noticed a wierd error:
The playback appears fine in IE however in Firefox the
scripted animated elements do ot apper correctly.
Please visit the site in IE and Firefox:
    http://www.attila.reinhardt.com/clients/mfcardamone/home.htm
Then click on Herbarium Specimens and select any of the
pictures. When the large image loads I have created a script that
adds up the width of the image and the position of the image and
also adds 15 pixels to it in order to position the text description
    fields accordingly.
Viewing it in IE 6 works while in Firefox 2 it does not
display the positioning correctly. Also in Firefox the included
Fuse scripts does not work whil in IE they display fine.
I have attched the code for your review:

Crazy, right after reading your post I check my current
project online using FireFox and IE 6 and noticed they are
inconsistent. I am also loading an external image into Flash and
with FireFox it seems that it doesn’t recognize the image
instantly however with IE it does (hence with your issue it
doesn’t know the width of the image). Comparing your code
with mine, we are both using an onEnterFrame event handler and Fuse
script. So those would be the culprits. I think you are using an
older version of Fuse then I (I am using the latest version). With
your code, you can use the MovieClipLoader class to retrieve the
bytes loaded for the loading image instead of onEnterFrame. That
might solve your issue. If I find out a solution I will post back
    here.
But this is not uncommon, finding one browser acting
different then the other, I have witnessed it several times.

  • Website created with iWeb looks different in IE and Firefox than Safari-why

So I spent a few hours working on my Home and About Us page. Then, while browsing this forum, I started seeing posts about how sites done with iWeb might not look good in IE and/or Firefox. I decided to test out my work. I zipped up my site files and emailed them to myself. I went to my Dell desktop and downloaded the files to that computer. I opened up the home page in Firefox first. The site seemed to look ok, and both the home and about us page links showed up and were functional (i.e. I was able to browse back and forth between the two pages). However, I had some bullet points on the about us page that had a green border around them. This rendered fine in Safari on my Mac, but in Firefox, the bottom line of the box was not connected! Why?
After viewing in IE, I was depressed. The site didn't look at all like it should have. Not only that, but I couldn't navigate between the pages, since the links for home and about us were not at the top. What can I do to make sure that a site I create with iWeb looks good in Safari, IE, and Mozilla Firefox?
    -A stumped newbie

Well I see that you and I share the same problem, I posted the same type of question and am anxiosly awaiting replies on this topic, as it is very important
I own a small business, and every hour a customer cannot view my site is a customer lost to incompatibility issues.
I hope someone can help answer these issues.

  • Layers don't appear properly inside table in Internet Explorer, but are fine in Firefox and Safari

How can I get layers that are inside tables that are
inside another layer to appear properly in Internet Explorer. It
works fine in Firefox and Safari on Mac and PC? The layers that are
causing the problems contain a table with an image and a caption,
so 2 cells. Then the layers are within a larger table that is
within a layer. I don't use IE (cause it is the bain of my
existence) but for a client they may want it to look good on all
browsers, even if it is IE 6 on a PC, maybe the browser version is
too old and I shouldn't worry about it? I know IE is not compliant
with web standards so is this the problem or is there a way to fix
the problem so it will look good in all the browers? The URL is
    http://uweb.txstate.edu/~ts20/scevents/spec-coll-events.html
so if anyone could look at it IE and firefox and see how I could
fix it, this would be very appreciated!
Much needed help. Thanks for any input.

    >>I knwow IE is not compliant with web standards
That is too broadly stated to be credible. Certainly IE6 has
    its problems
but is highly compliant with most web standards. To be an
    effective
designer/developer one must have a working knowledge of IE's
    deficiencies,
not just write it off as non-compliant. After all, it is
    still used by some
70% or web users (based on W3C Schools data.)
Please post a link to your site.

  • On my Mac, why do websites display differently with FireFox than Safari.

I have been using FireFox on my Mac and prefer it over Safari, BUT recently, some, not all, websites are not displaying correctly! When I use Safari all the content is there and the websites display as they are supposed to. (I tried to insert a screen shot but unable to do so) I have the most current FF version installed, unless FireFox is not happy with my older MAC OS ??

Thank you for the info!! Attached are a few screenshots to show the problem - I now know how to do a screen shot! thx.... anyway note on the Ancestry shot Safari shows a male or female head whereas Firefox show a simple symbol for male/female. I spoke with Ancestry and it is supposed to be the male/female head icons that are displayed. In the Yahoo shot Safair displays the icons and names for reply, delete etc but Firefox has some icon that only if you hover over it will it then display the name or what it is. this is very perplexing as I really prefer Firefox over Safari... any help will be appreciated! thank you

  • Show/hide bahavior not working in firefox or safari

Here is my problem. The show hide behavior incorporated in DW
CS3 is working fine in IE6 and 7 but not working at all in firefox
and safari (both latest version). I have tried it on different
    event but nothing.
My web site is configured that if someone click on details, a
layer will become visible and the details will be showed. I know
there is a work around and the simplest would be to have a new
window open but this is not the style I want.
Any help would be much appreciated.

  • Project Server 2010 SP2 - Use with IE11, Firefox and Safari

More groups in my company are being onboarded to start reporting time and managing projects out of Project Server /PWA 2010.  We found that one of the groups have MACs and use either Safari or Firefox.  There are some members of that
same team who are using an HP machine but are using IE 11.
From what I am reading and what I am seeing it appears that with Firefox and Safari you cannot access Manage Timesheets or Project Center.  Has anyone found a work-around for this?
The work-around we are using for IE11 is to add Project Serrver to the Compatability View.  Does anyone know of a problem with this approach?
    Thank you

Look into using the 'IE tab' for Chrome/Firefox as a work-around. I had a similar scenario with Mac users and installed IE tab in their Chrome/Firefox browsers for them and worked pretty good for the most part. Hope this helps.

  • Not being asked for credentials in SSRS 2008 R2 for Firefox and Safari

I have an instance of SSRS 2008 that is currently working on all browsers (the URL is something like reports.foo/reports).
I spun up a new instance of SSRS and placed it on the url report01.foo/reports.  This new instance is connected to a different domain (I am spining up a Active Directory Domain and trying to build out our infrastructure, so the logins are different).
I am able to access the new URL (report01.foo/reports) from IE and Chrome.  It is asking for the username/password and able to get on just fine.
However, when I try to go to the new URL (report01.foo/reports) using Safari and Firefox, it never asks for credentials and shows a blank page.  This does not happen for the old URL (reports.foo/reports), only the new URL.
    Any ideas?

    Hi Ben,
Per my understanding that you have configured windows authentication and which by default will not prompt for credential. So I assumed you have changed the User Authentication setting in the security setting to pop up for credential, for example like below(IE),
If so, your issue about the pop up credetial not pop up in Firefox and Safari can be caused by the related security setting, If you give Anonymous User rights, you may got the blank page:
Details information about similar issue in threads below for your reference:
how to change reporting service site seurity setting?
SSRS in firefox not asking for credentials
If you still have any problem, please feel free to ask.

  • Footer content is centered in IE, but NOT in Firefox (or Safari) *PLS HELP!!!

Please check out our website and please let us know why the footer content is centered in IE, but NOT in Firefox (or Safari)? The footer contains a simple div / table ?? with just a couple of icons to the left, a copyright link in the center, and a Facebook "Like" link to the right. It looks perfect in IE, but when you view it in Firefox, it ends up appearing all the way to the LEFT side of the footer!!! PLEASE HELP - THANK YOU!!!!!!
    The site is www.PartyGirlRocks.com

[http://example.com link text]It ended up being a lack of the <center> code. Thank you so much for your quick reply & advice. I now have another cross-browser issue, this time with Facebook "Like" code, but want to respect the forum rules & unsure if I need to post this new issue elsewhere...??
Bascially the Facebook "Like" code has 3 options 1) Simple LIKE button, 2) LIKE Box, 3) LIKE Button along with several "friends" faces.
I have option #1 (Simple LIKE Button) on all 5 web pages and it works great on all browsers; however...
I have option #3 (Like Button With friend's Faces on One page
    http://www.partygirlrocks.com/site/index-3.html
and it works fine in Firefox & Safari, but NOT in IE!!!
Ironically a flip-flop of my earlier issue. I don't know whether to laugh or cry, but I'm ready to rip my hair out. I know it may be Facebook specific, but any help would be greatly appreciated as social media is important.
    Thank you,

I designed my school website in CS4 and  CS5.  The left spry menu bar appears correctly in Firefox and Safari, but in Internet Explorer the gray background and buttons do not appear.  You can only see the text and when you scroll over the text, it disappears even though when you click on it, the link does appear.  The website is http://ml.chinookschools.org.  I created the site on a mac and I am hosting it on a mac mini server on my network at school.  I am a beginner with Dreamweaver and I'm not sure if someone can help me with this, but I would sure be appreciative for any help offered. You are not using the latest Spry files
The latest version of the Adobe Spry Framework is 1.6.1, this is the same version that ships with Dreamweaver CS4. If you use Dreamweaver CS3 (uses Spry 1.4), its wise to upgrade your files to the latest version. This can easily be done using the Spry Updater that can be found here.
Then, if you have a look near the bottom of SpryMenuBarVertical.css you will see that the white background colour has been specified for IE as in
    @media screen, projection
        ul.MenuBarVertical li.MenuBarItemIE
        display: inline;
        f\loat: left;
        background: #FFF;
Change the value to #CCC and it will have fixed that part of the problem.
When you upgrade to the later version of Spry, make sure to keep a copy of the CSS file as a reference to modifying the new CSS file.

  • Text placement in Firefox and Safari is good but not in ie7

I am using DW CS4 wit Windows Vista
When I preview my site in Firefox and Safari the text is exactly where I want it but when I look at it in IE7 the text is not in the correct position.
I designed the website using css with an image in the background of the container and then postioned text on top of the image with margins/padding on the Div tags.
Div tags LeftContent and RightContent are placed correctly, But Div Tags Quote1, Quote2, Quote3, & Quote4 do not place correctly in IE7 but they do place correcly in Safari and Firefox.
Is there some code needed for IE7?
The site also looks right in live preview
    The Site is http://gigharborwashington.com/new/

    Hi Gary,
Thank you for your help.  I used photoshop to slice the image into 8 images and then opened in in DW CS4 and created a div tag for each image.  Then I inserted a div tag for the text into each image div tag.
In Safari, Firefox and IE7 the text appears where I want it.  I think I may have done this the long way but it worked.  If anyone has a short cut I would like to hear it.

    Thank you again.

  • Links not linking on one page. Differences in Firefox, Camino & Safari...

Hello, I doubt this is a new question... My web site is hearth2hearth.com My problem(s) is/are: The links at the bottom of the "Who's in the Kitchen?" page (email & [email protected]) do not work when published. These same links on all other pages do work. On this same page there is a photo and a caption beneath it that are both links to another site. Neither work. All links to other pages on my site (at the top of all pages) work fine. However (a separate problem) some of those links at the top of the pages are of a different color than I chose, and/or are underlined when I deselected Underline in the Format section of the Link Inspector. I have looked at the site on Firefox, Camino & Safari and there are differences on all three. (Firefox has never updated critical changes I made a while ago. Safari shows a hit counter twice that I thought I removed or at least I never see it anywhere else.) My host is not .mac, but hostmonster.co I have not yet begun tearing my hair out in frustration, but my hands are beginning to reach for my scalp...HELP! And thank you in advance.

    Wyodor,
    1. It may be messy or it may not. It seems that is opinion as opposed to fact. I am not a designer. I am a guy who has iLife and so I have iWeb & a need. Mac makes it easy for those of us with no designer experience to feel we can do something. It may not be up to designer's standards but it's what we have.
    2. Why two email addresses? One is direct link and the other is in case someone would rather copy & paste the address in case they are at another computer and do not wish to use the default email of the host computer. I don't know. It was a suggestion I took. Doesn't seem harmful to me...
    3. Out of focus? Where? There are no options to focus anything and all it is is typed words. I cannot see how it is out of focus.
    4. I have looked and looked again at these pages. Code means nothing to me. So all I can do is look at the page itself and try to figure things out. What is frustrating is that things look different depending on which computer and which browser I view them on. While working here on iWeb I see certain results but I don't have several computers and every browser available all the time. So how am I supposed to fix anything when it looks fine when I working on it? I just discovered yesterday while at a friend's house that on IE the site had two hit counters I cannot see on Camino, Safari or Firefox. I even thought I had removed the hit counters mostly because I couldn't see them when I put them on.
    5. I have used a font that may not be recognized. But it is recognized on the other pages. My problem is mostly - but not entirely - with this page. All I see is that even where the pages are similar, they read differently. I have nothing blocking these links any more than I might on other pages and yet this one page will not link.
Thanks for your help, though. As I said, the code here is Greek to me. So I cannt use it or even recognize if its helpful...

  • Why does Firefox leak memory after. I do the same operations in Firefox and Safari, Firefox in some cases uses over 500 MB of RAM, Safari uses about 50 MB

After opening and closing 5 windows in Firefox and Safari, at rest Firefox still claimed (approx.) 500MB of real memory, Safari return all memory and claimed only (approx.) 50MB at rest (all windows closed). My laptop starts over heating when browsing just simple information pages in Firefox. This still happens after updating to the latest browser.

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

  • Horizontal Menu problem in Firefox and Safari

I have created a Spry Widget horizontal menu bar in my
template .dwt. This menubar worked fine at first in IE7, Firefox3,
and Safari 3 and 4, but now that all pages are in place, it
displays incorrectly in Firefox and Safari. Specifically, for each
dropdown menu, only the final item appears. While creating the
pages, I did not make any changes to the template, so I am not sure
    what caused this error.
